I like coming to Americano when the sun's still out and about after work. The outdoor patio is a cool place to hang as they have picnic tables to hang out at, and heat lamps.

The drinks are on the pricier side but you get a nice view and ambiance.

Me hopes I caught this place on a bad day, as it wasn't very good!!

Went with friends for breakfast to start an exciting day...luckily the rest of the day was better than breakfast.
I ordered Eggs Benedict - not good - one egg was overcooked so yolk not runny - but maybe that was the style since the Hollandaise sauce was also thick and clumpy.
    Potatoes were dry and bland.
Friends started the day off right with a couple Bloody Mary's each...and their only comments were that they weren't that great and tasked completely different...as if they changed bartenders mid shift.
Best part of breakfast was the conversation about the SF Health Tax on the bill, and the fact they add a mandatory gratuity even for a group of only 5 people!

    Review for bar area only.

This is a great place to come for an after-work drink, particularly on day with good weather where the patio is open with great views of the Bay and the Bay Bridge.  It's still not bad in the winter where they tent-over the patio.  It can get very crowded so either come early (5pm-ish) or late (7pm-ish) unless you want to catch the peak crowd.

Note that once in a while they rent out the rear patio/tent and that makes the place intolerably crowded, in which case I suggest heading over to Cosmopolitan just down the street.

Fun place to be after work. Perfect place for HH only from Saturday- Wednesdays, from 3- 6 p, especially during the summer. Love the couches around the patio. Thursday and Friday no HH but it gets super crowded if you like to be in the crowd, this is the place to be. Love the long communal tables too.
Be sure to get there early and order 2 drinks at a time , or you will never be able to get your drink later on.

While it's a great view and nice gathering place with the outdoor patio across from the Bay, the service is really bad. When we first got there, I was early so it's not as though they were busy. We sat for a long time and finally I asked the bartender if there was table service. He was very defensive and replied there was but with an attitude of , why are you even asking me this question. As I was entertaining clients, I wanted things to move slowly. Drinks took forever to arrive and serve visits to the table were rare. We were continually asking for service. Same story in trying to get the check. And the servers just weren't friendly either. Would look for another place for after work cocktails and snacks.

Americano is near my office, so we often go here when we have folks visiting from out of town.

I hate this place, it takes an inordinate amount of time to get service, both in taking the order and having it served; I've waited over an hour before, and this wasn't me sitting idle, I prompted the waitress on multiple occasions.

In addition to the long wait times, the wait staff are rude and unhelpful. I keep going, keep hoping my experience will be different, but it never is.

Met up some friends here from out of state on a Friday evening  which was pretty busy so ordering drinks at the bar was a mission.  We ended up ordering drinks from the waitress at our friend's table which was located outdoor in their patio area.  They served food their as well but didn't there.  Their patio area had good seating and it was also busy.  This is a cool spot to come have drinks after a long day of staring at the computer.  A great place for pre-parties and gatherings.

When I first walked into this place, I could have sworn I was somewhere in LA. Strange thing- you walk around SoMA or Montgomery St, you don't really see anyone wearing suits, especially on a Friday, but here, everyone is overdressed. But this isn't about the douches who are attracted to this place like a moth to a candle, it is about the fact that in the history of this bar, I don't think anyone has ever left the bar drunk. If you are there for two hours, you might have three beers- tops! That is pushing it.

It is very crowded in the patio, and it seems like a constant stream of people coming and going. I noticed as our party of 7-8 people saw a large turnover in this place, which makes sense. If you really want to go have a beer, you aren't going to stand in line for a damn drink!!! All you hear around people bitching about what a mess it is to have a drink, or people bumping into them, etc. Great way to unwind from the work week!!!!

Upscale but not pretentious, Hip but relaxed...

Met up with a couple friends for drinks and was impressed by how well people dressed here. None of that skanky, douchey LA fashion here, how refreshing. And, everyone looked intelligent and acted mature, or at least try to; such a contrast to everyone looking stupid and acting stupid in LA. I'm a geek and OMG that's actually cool here, where I don't have to hide my intelligence.

Outdoor patio with heat lamps to keep my lil socal behind warm, reasonably priced drinks. Miss Dani stamps approval!

Before leaving the hotel , I grabbed breakfast at Americano. Why? Because the menu in my room was taunting me all night with promises of scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms, and when it comes to spores, I consider myself a pretty fungi. Fun guy. IT'S A PU-forget it.

Because simple scrambled eggs and wild mushrooms is not befitting a restaurant attached to such a classy-ass hotel as the Vitale, they had to dress it up with some truffle oil, and despite the gushing of a fellow traveler sitting nearby, I think dumping truffle oil on something ends up hurting the dish more than helping. It wasn't overdone, though, and I enjoyed the simple breakfast in the relaxed atmosphere of the bar.

I thought the potatoes that came with my dish were underdone.

Speaking to the service, there were two people working the bar when I came in. Somewhere near the waning bites of my dish, the person serving me disappeared, and I sat for quite a while with my plate cleared of food before the other dude at the bar realized I was there. Seemed sloppy for a place that puts truffle oil on their eggs.

I had lunch with a few coworkers I ordered the pasta special and they had the 'quick lunch'. After a long wait, (restaurant wasn't busy) I finally got the smallest portion of pasta I've ever seen.

I swear it was 6 quarter sized ravioli with the filling the size of a pea in a huge empty bowl.

I looked up at the server and she had a quirky look on her face and said "Kinda small... right?"

    Uh, yeah....

So my coworkers had their huge portions sandwiches and soup, and I ate the rest of the complementary bread with the tiny tasteless pasta and went back to the office starving.

But what fucking kills me is charging $8 fucking dollars for fucking black fucking coffee!!  WTFuck?? Why don't you just pic pocket me? Next time use some fucking lube and stop to let me fucking know that Im getting butt fucked when I ask for coffee thinking at most its 1-2 dollars!!!

This review is just for the bar.

Full disclosure: I like witty comic oddball service and an eclectic mix of customers. The bar felt like a place people meet to speed date.

Is everyone in here between the hours of 3 and 10 just looking for someone 'wealthy' to hook up with? I don't get it. Maybe they are very good at what they do, so forgive the "meh" review... but seriously are these people here from central casting? Suburbanites and working city girls and boys so incredibly desperate for a hookup or is that your boss you are rubbing up against? Uptight and pretense are two words that come to mind. Is that the fault of the management or just the scene?

I really want to like this place, I want to go again and give it a second chance. I went with my cousin for her coworkers birthday gathering on a Friday evening around 5ish, finding a parking spot was almost impossible! The gathering was held outside in the patio area which is currently covered with a tent. Very tacky in my opinion for such a nice restaurant. The patio was extremely crowded with no place to sit. Another thing I didn't like. They have a good happy hour menu, good service and the view is very nice. I'd like to try it again when the weather is nice and the tent is gone.

Moderately priced for a restaurant located in a hotel.  The food is great, and you look out the windows and you see the beautiful city.  I like it alot here, and if you're staying at Hotel Vitale (See my review) and you think you want to venture out to check out city restaurants, its still not a bad option to dine in here.  Bar is great for some pregaming as well.  There is an outdoor seating area with heat lamps that puts you right on the Embarcadero sidewalk, you can people watch and people watch you sip on your drink.

Place is fun and I don't know if you're allowed to or not, but I order drinks and walk on up to my room.

    Hit it convenient my friends.

Very nice bartender who warned me of the bitterness of the Campari drink.  Guess I looked like an amateur when I ordered it and he gave me a tasting.  As predicted by he, I changed my mind and ordered the Cannella instead.  Due to the rain, we were able to sit at a table after 6pm on a Friday night.  Besides fancy drinks, they serve beer as well.

One of the best bars to go to on a nice SF day. They have a great outdoor patio section looking out onto the Embarcadero. The inside is modern, large, and full of young professionals getting their happy hour on. You'll find your fix of great looking people here for sure. I do feel like I have to dress up for this place a little more than my usual happy hour spots, but that's alright with me. Drinks are a bit pricier than usual as it's located in a hotel, and I found myself waiting for about 20 minutes at the bar to get a drink on the particular night I went. They were understaffed, but the guy made sure I knew he was getting to me so that was nice. Other than those little flaws, I think this place is great. I'll definitely come back here for more happy hours.

I was mistakenly associated with some routy people near me. A waitress then asked them to leave but she also points at me and said "you leave as well". I politely told the waitress that I was not with the people in question. She said she didn't care (with expletives interspersed), to leave the premises immediately, and not to return. When I asked for her name and to speak with her manager, she said "my name is..." and then flicks me off putting her middle finger close to my face.

Having just concluded a 12 hour business day, I did not let the distasteful incident ruin my dinner. I ordered a pizza from a different waitress, and thought it tasted pretty good -- a four out of five stars. However, I just can't give this business even a single star for getting treated like a dog by one of the waitresses. After eating, I paid and left. I used to like this place but I don't think I will return any time soon, or recommend it to anyone for the reasons above.

My friends and I hit up Americano on the recommendation of our concierge. We wanted to dress up a little and dine in a more upscale setting, and Americano was it.

The Americano crowd seemed most interested in hanging out on the patio or close to the bar, and this was good for two reasons: we were quickly seated away from the masses in the dining room, which enabled us to avoid any horrible pick-up lines. Score.

I had a delicious risotto, and my friends immensely enjoyed their food as well. Our service was pretty good, and the drinks were fantastic. It's a little spendy, but that was fine; we wanted a classier experience than we'd find at a brewpub or an Outback Steakhouse, and Americano delivered perfectly.

Mother says beautiful people are agents of the devil. Well let me tell you, this place must have been the 7th circle of hell because all the people in here are ffhii-hii-hiine! Oh my flying spaghetti monster!

After I regained my composure, I ordered a couple glasses of champagne and joined my friends outside in front of the heat lamps. I give this place 4 stars because some of the clientele are hipsters, which means they basically thought they were better than me because they don't live with their mothers and watch reruns of the golden girls. Who are they kidding?

Also, one guy made a homophobic comment to my STRAIGHT friend, which in San Francisco is a ridiculous thing to make, even mother would agree and she hates the gays, but I digress...

One day I will learn how to makes sounds with my mouth to communicate with people of the opposite sex and approach these creatures in skirts that are mini and hips that are rotund. Until then, Blanch is the only one for me...

Difficult to get a drink on a Thursday or Friday, so order a double if you're a lush. Always meet quality peeps. Definitely the suited up, young professional, or poser professional crowd. Best when the weather is beautiful and you can hang on the outdoor patio. Makes me feel like I'm in So Cal somewhere.

Americano is great for happy hour and if you're looking for a compromise to meet friends who work in FiDi/SOMA.  When it's a nice day (which it has been lately, it's gorgeous outside).  Apparently they have some concert that takes place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays as well.

Great wine selection, pizza, and don't forget to order the fries!  They are sprinkled with togarashi (red chili pepper flakes) and served with ketchup and mayo.  To die for!

Americano is one of those strange upscale places where everyone wears virtually the same suit and tie.

That being said, the pizza at Americano is pretty damn good.  The service for our group was also not bad.  A little slow at first but after we started ordering expensive drinks, they were very attentive to our needs.

Their scotch selection is not bad.  I noted 18yr Yamazaki, 10yr Talisker, 14yr Oban, and 18yr Highland Park among the regular fare.  The Highland Park I was told was over $30 and the Oban $22.

All in all a decent enough joint and I would probably come back for a happy hour but I think for my scotch cravings, I'll look elsewhere.  3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for the pizza!

I absolutely love their pizza funghi with fontina and black truffle oil. I loooove mushrooms and the pizza isn't overly truffle-y--I literally could eat this pizza over and over again if my waistline would allow it!

One of my favorite happy hour spots in SF.  The after work crowd is professional, but casual in an SF kind of way and you really feel that in the ambiance of the outdoor patio.  The patio is right on the embarcadero with great views of the bay bridge and is the perfect spot to relax with friends, sip your drink of choice and enjoy the beauty of the city.  It is NOT a "cheap" HH spot, but to lounge & have a couple glasses of wine, the ambiance is worth it!

I really like Americano.  I enjoy it's elegant yet simplistic decor.  The drinks are strong-- can't go wrong with a dirty martini.  And I love that you can drink outdoors, and see the bay bridge.  It's SF heaven.

Been to Americano a few times, twice for happy hour and once for a late night cap.

The crowd is very financial, suits and ties.   The women are usually dressed up since they probably came after work, or after a dinner date.

I love SOMA.  It's NY without all the commotion and the honking, obnoxious yellow cabs.  There's nothing I prefer than drinking outdoors, in the crisp SF night, with great company.

Been back for brunch with a girlfriend and it was a better experience.  Fast forward to this past Saturday when we had the gorgeous weather, hubby and I dropped by to rest up over a cocktail.

We grabbed one of the low lounge sofas and it was super comfortable, hubby and I were both tempted to stretch out and take a little nap.  Instead we ordered a cocktail each and tried the arancini ($3) on their HH menu.

The aranchini was piping hot and delicious - crispy on the outside with plenty cheese inside that pulls and pulls.

I had The Americano ($9) - Crushed orange slices with Campari
and Carpano sweet vermouth over ice finished with a splash of soda water.  They forgot the crushed orange slices so I crushed the wedge the drink came with and it tasted better.

Hubby had The Spritz ($11) - Aperol with Prosecco and soda water
over ice with a slice of orange.  This was a very light and refreshing drink.

I had been looking for a classy weekend Happy Hour space to celebrate my birthday with a large group of friends. With weekend Happy hour specials for food and cocktails and ample seating space, this hotel restaurant was the perfect destination for a Saturday celebration.

We sampled several of their specialty cocktails and appetizers at the half price happy hour deal. Our waitress Jennifer was friendly, attentive, and patient with our party size and order menu. I would highly recommend this space for a laid back yet sophisticated get together. Unbeatable city views, a comfortable atmosphere, and happy hour specials make Americano the ideal space for a weekend soiree!

It was kind of last minute, but my boyfriend brought me here for Valentine's Day dinner and we were pretty lucky to get a reservation here that was around 6:45.
Food: It was really amazing, they had a special menu and since it is a american restaurant I was worried that there was nothing for my boyfriend who recently became a vegetarian and me a pescatarian to eat. Surprisingly they had a meat entree, a seafood entree and a vegetarian entree! Over all the food was amazing, though it is pricy, I don't think we wouldn't come for just a casual meal since it was 55$ per person.

I had a very nice dinner here with a group of eight people. I started off with a "Martini Americano" -- which is Hendricks gin with a touch of Lillet Blanc and a lemon twist. It was excellent. We began by sharing appetizers: artichoke and brussel sprouts fritti, tuna rillette with marinated radicchio and crostini, and mozarella and sourdough spiedini alla Romana. They were all tasty -- although I might take a pass on the brussel sprouts if I eat here again. We also had the standard bread with olive oil and balsamic thing, and some mozarella on the side. I was full enough that I skipped the salad and went straight for the main course, deciding on Red Hill lamb, tortelloni, loin and lamb sausage with artichokes, tomato conserva and nasturtiums. It was all very good, although the lamb was a little tougher than I would have expected. All in all, I thought the food was good and the service was very good.

When I worked in the FiDi in the building next door, my coworkers would come here a lot for HH...even though they don't have a HH on Thurs/Fri...the busiest HH days. The HH is Sat-Wed 2-6 ($3 bottled beers and $5 wines/cocktails).  Cocktails are ~$10 and beers are ~$6.  They have an indoor area with couches and an outdoor area with picnic benches and heat lamps.

So it's more of a business crowd, and drinks are a bit pricey. We would go for lunch sometimes, and mostly everyone stuck w the burger, which was $16. They have a big private room in the back good for large groups. I don't remember it being anything that special.

However, I went recently for a wedding and the wedding was nice. They have little terraces on the roof, and they had the wedding up there with the ferry building and bay bridge in the background. The reception took place in the outdoor bar area, which was neat because we ate, drank, and danced to a DJ out in public with people walking by looking like they wanted to join the party ~ so it was definitely different.

We ended up here on the recommendation of Yelpers, and had an amazing meal and convo with good friends!

Choosing to be seated in the dining room was a GREAT idea, because the bar area was VERY loud.  A good loud, an everyone having a good time loud, but too loud to catch up with old friends.

Started off with the fresh made mozzarella as an appetizer, came with tons of bread, strawberries and tomatoes sprinkled with just a touch of basil.

Ordered a burger, a huge, perfectly cooked burger, with fries sprinkled with parmesan cheese.

Martini was good, service was good, food was fantastic!

**Disclaimer - This review is for their weekend breakfast only**
Their pancakes are literally the best I have ever had. Fluffy, light, slightly crisped on the outside, with delicious mint and pecan butter. It doesn't get any better than this.

I get a craving for these pancakes and make the trek out here from the South Bay at least once a month to get my fix.

The breakfast room is usually pretty empty, which means this is also a great place to get a good breakfast without fighting through hordes of other people (think Mama's).

Other items have been hit-or-miss, but the pancakes are so good, I can't help but give 5 stars.

If you get the fruit and yogurt plate, ask for seasonal fruit from the farmer's market, instead of the standard, thoughtless orange / melon / strawberry standard.

The short rib hash has been hit-and-miss. The first time I had it, there were few potatoes, perfectly cooked short ribs, and beautifully poached eggs with green onions that put me into the most rapturous of food comas. Another time, it was mostly potatoes, with a few pieces of meat and tasted like standard diner fare.

I'd go back and get the pancakes. After writing this review, and thinking about the pancakes, I'm feeling the urge to go tomorrow!

Class and elegance--what a nice combination.

After my usual martini to start things off--(Belvedere with 2 olives)-- I decided to try one of their signature cocktails known as the "Raccolta".
(Ketel One vodka, Mathilde peach liquor, Amaretto di Saranno,
    orange bitters, lime juice.)
It was wonderful. So glad to have experimented. I believe the name of the drink translates into the word "harvest" in English.

We shared the Arancini with Scamorza Cheese as our appetizer. (Fried rice balls with smoked mozzarella cheese inside. It was served with marinara sauce)
It was very good. There were 2 on the plate.

Next came the Pizza Salsiccia with house made pork sausage, piquillo peppers, mozzarella and crushed tomatoes. There were 6 slices of this thin crust pizza. It was excellent. We had them pack up 3 slices for us to take with us after dinner.

We both ordered the Heritage Pork Mixed Roast with whole wheat and mustard spaetzle, cherries and braised chard. The flavors were original and inspired. We both enjoyed this entree very much.

For dessert we ordered the peach crostata and a dish of chocolate gelato with sugar cookies..
The crostata was very good and was served with a scoop of ginger flavored gelato.

Service could not have been any better.

Good job, Americano. We'll be back.

I have mixed feelings about this place, I really want to like it, but i don't know if I should.
Americano for drinks: Drinks are good, be nice to your waitress and understand that there are a ridiculous amount of people she is serving and she'll treat you well. (bigger drinks, more bang for the buck.) Drinks are awfully expensive for what they are, but then again in that area it is what you should expect.
Crowd: There are plenty of classy looking individuals in their small groups exchanging contacts. If I were a female not looking to meet any guys, this is NOT the place to go. I feel that this place is crawling with older, wealthier, (you know that type) men. So ladies, I guess if your self confidence is dipping low, this would be an excellent place for you to go to. Don't expect a knight in shining armor though.

Friday night - drinks and appies. Crazy busy but our server found us right away and took our drink orders. Lots to watch - beautiful young people, sad middle-aged lonely men, and tourists in jeans and tennis shoes that are somewhat wider than their height. Point being....you'll fit in no matter what.

Furniture is comfy although PLEASE put something under the couches so they don't move....I sat on one alone and just shifting in the couch scoots it across the floor...then a couple of the beautiful people sat on the back of my couch and scooted it the opposite direction to the point where I actually had to ask them (nicely) to get the hell off. If it is crowded like Friday nights tend to be, be prepared for the crushing loudness - and not being able to hear your companion even if they are sitting right next to you.

Had a cosmo (how '80's of me) but no sugar rim! Come on, if I'm gonna order a pink drink don't you think I want the sugar rim? And it was STRONG. You can take that as a negative or positive...depending on your love of the taste of alcohol.  Also had the artichoke and brussels sprouts fritto misto and found it thoroughly enjoyable.

    I love this place.

There were heated lamps and plenty of seating arrangements galore in the patio. The bar area was packed with formal business casual {this is a heels kinda place} dressed persons, but pleasantly so. There was a great vibe throughout the entire restaurant.

The dining room which was separated from the bar area by a ceiling-to-floor green curtain. The room was only half occupied despite the fact that the prices and price ranges were more than reasonable for such a great location, great use of space and lovely, relaxed lighting. Well, you know, more for me! :D

Five people easily found a table and had a very helpful informative friendly waiter. 1 in five people ate duck + fig, one of their more expensive courses - which was amazingly good. 1 in five people had a Pizza funghi with fontina and black truffle oil pizza - which was delicious and 1 in five people had 2 Segales { a mixed drink that contained Bourbon }.

Will and I shared a chocolate budin with caramel which was amazing.

Overall I loved this experience and will highly recommend people to drop by, if even for a happy hour drink. It's well worth it.

Note * The online menu was different from the menu available in the restaurant.

Americano is my favorite happy hour place in the City!!!  I have gone there a few times and have had a great experience every time.  The atmosphere is awesome- you get a bay-view, the staff is fun, and the crowd is mostly young, friendly professionals.  It gets pretty crowded but the outdoor seating is such that you can always find somewhere to sit-- and there are heat lamps!!!

The prices aren't bad- there is no happy hour on Fridays but well drinks are only $6 (they would be $5 during happy hour).
