Review from Wendy M.

I have been to this vet 2 times - so far.
We own 3 dogs, 2 cats and a cockateil.
So far Dr. Cruz has seen our bird, who has mites (see review on Big Al's) and our 17 year old cat, who is just getting old.
Both times I made an appointment last minute and they fit me in the same day. That is awesome!
The vet was through with his exams on both the animals. The exam rooms are near freezing in temperature, but the office overall is clean and well appointed. And on the cat side (they have separate entrances for canines and felines) they have water and coffee out, which is a nice touch.
The techs seem nice and are considerate and kind with your pets.
As with most vets, the billing estimate for our pets care always include a few things that are not absolutely necessary, but nonetheless recommended, and I personally like to have all my choices laid out before making a decision.
Overall I think I will continue with this office.
I will update after our next visit!

Ok this vet's office is great!
in the past several weeks I have had to go there several times and they have been great! I want to give KUDOS to a vet tech there named Michelle who taught me how to give my 17 year old cat IV fluids. She is a great teacher.
And KUDOS to Dr. Cruz for seeing my bird again on a last minute emergency appointment last night when he injured his little bird leg and broke 3 blood feathers.
Both the cat and bird are doing well thank to the great staff at this office.

We have been going to Dr Cruz for years and love him. We have several dogs and each has gone through their own problem or dog injury throughout the years. Dr Cruz & his staff are very compassionate and have gone above and beyond at times for us due to our work schedules. He has been with us with our new rescues right through putting our older one down, and has treated our dogs very well. Medically, financially and professionally, they are a great group. They are open on weekends and very helpful with whatever the need may be. The offices are clean and the staff very friendly. We would recommend them to anyone in need of a new vet!

I rescued a very very adorable kitten about 2 weeks ago. I named the little guy, Giga. Yes his last name is Byte! Get it...Giga Byte. I'm so freaking creative! And modest.
Anyways my little guy was sneezing quite a bit and I wanted to get him checked out to ensure he was ok. So I went online and found American Vet Hospital. They have been around Simi for years so i figured i would give them a chance.
I called for an appointment and they were able to accommodate me. Unfortunately, they are only open till 5:30. Which makes it hard for the working man. But they are very professional, they explain things in non doctor terms and they even know when to step in. AKA they asked me to grab a freaking stool sample. Yea i wasn't about to do that. I build corporations computer networks for a living...don't mind doing that till 3am. But I'm not about to grab a stool sample from my little guy. A man has to draw the line somewhere! So when I took him back for his checkup they asked if I got a stool sample...i laughed a little and they understood. So they did it for me. Now that's what I call service!
Great people, good doctor, good staff. The only thing is that my freaking kitten got more attention from the ladies then I did. What can I say I got competition! -

Dr. Cruz is heartless. I have been taking my cat there for over a year for the same thing, asthma and her joint disease. I also have cat insurance on her and everytime I bring my claim form for him to fill out. I just went there a couple weeks ago for the same thing, asthma and her joint disease. Most of our conversation was about her asthma but I did advise him she was also limping. He charged me $600 worth of xrays and tests and I paid (as I always do) the full amount. A week later he filled out my claim form and mailed it to me. I then proceeded to send it to the insurance company. About 2 weeks later the pet insurance company told be they would not be sending me any kind of reimbursment due to the fact that all Dr.Cruz put down was she came in for her asthma and that was not covered under my insurance, on the joint disease was. They advised that I needed Dr.Cruz to fill out another claim form adding that she was also in for her joint disease. I contacted Dr.Cruz's office and spoke to the receptionist about my issue. She said she would talk to the Dr and call me back. She never called. I called again and let a message to speak to Dr.Cruz. He did not call me back. I called again and spoke to the receptionist and she told me Dr. Cruz would not adjust or update what he had written. I went to the office to speak to Dr.Cruz and he would not see me, the receptionist said he was to busy doing other things and did not have time to speak to me. I advised the receptionist again what is going on, that this is something she has and he has treated her before, she said she would speak to him and call me. She never called. I called again and spoke to the receptionist again and she advised me again that Dr. Cruz will not change or update anything. Now I am out $600 because Dr.Cruz will not correct my claim form. I don't understand how he could be so heartless and rude. He didn't even have the guts to call me or tell me in person, he had his receptionist do all his dirty work for him. I can honestly say I will never be going back there again. They are extremely pety and do not care about their customers.
