Review from Merrie D.

American Tow saved the day in "extracting" my car inside the car wash at a Chevron station today. Do not ask how I manged to drive my Subaru over the bumper and the rails inside the car wash. The car was "stuck" since the tires were wedged between the wall and rails. I could not drive the car forward or back up.
Steve and JD of American Towing were able to get my car out in about 20 minutes. Their inginuity on using wood and the power of the car to get over the rails was the perfect solution. Steve was patient and gave me clear instructions on moving the car forward and back as he and JD moved the wood to get the wheels over the rail and bumper.
My thanks for the professional, courteous and quick service. AND thanks for asking the high school students who stopped to watch and laugh to "keep moving along"! -

I'm almost hesitant to write my review... So I can verify I have the right company. I'm very surprised of all the other unhappy customers.
My experience was quite the opposite and as smooth as the situation can be. Two people arrived within the hour I was quoted by my insurance company. The driver prepped the vehicle; while a nice young woman took down my information. Already, I knew this was going go be a much better experience than when my car was towed the first time. The reps were very clean (yes, this matters to me) and pleasant to talk to.
When we arrived at the Mechanic's shop the Mechanic wasn't there and wanted me to wait before he got there before we dropped the car. I asked the Driver of the American Tow and he said he couldn't wait too long. I asked, for 5mins otherwise I'd understand he has to do what he has to do. The young lady told me they had a pretty busy day. So I appreciate that they waited.
While we waited, the driver, who's name I later learned was Mike M. was very nice and seemed in some ways genuinely concerned that I was dealing with a reputable mechanic and was getting a good deal.
I would definitely use them again - however, considering the other reviews - I would ask for the pair that I got this last Saturday. -

My dealings with American Tow to this point are purely unpleasant ones. They towed my car from downtown Walnut Creek on a Sunday morning and charged me an obscene amount of money to get it back.
Being that you have basically no recourse when your car has been towed means they can essentially rape your wallet and there's nothing you can do about it.
American Tow is a vulture. -

I locked my keys in the car and called AAA. Jeff showed up and was incredibly helpful. Fast and easy and was able to get to work on time. Thanks Jeff!

when my car got towed one of the drivers who towed my car tampered w/ my front license plate.. it was a Euro Plate... however, unlike most tow companies they dont show attitude and the boss Randy seemed very sincere... he called up the driver to see what was up and seemed angry asking why the driver touched my plate ... and then he gave me and my friend a number to call him back on to check up on the status.... he calls twice on the ball to let us know what happened, the driver got suspended! and randy or the driver is offering to pay for a new plate!!! ... so yeaaa be careful what you put on your car.. luckily my car was locked and they didnt take my keys... and to that idiot who stole my plate... it can't be random people on the street b/c the tow yard should be closed and nobody can get their car while its in the yard w/o release form.. along w/ that 24 hour surveillance.. were you stupid ??? your job was to tow my car and put it in the yard not tamper w/ private property!

I used to work as an intern for the District Attorney on the Tow Company Detail and this company is an example of a company that should be out of business. We were following them on the freeway at a safe distance when they were towing a truck. Some kind of metal debris or tool fell off the truck and heard it hit our car. We pulled off the road to see this gash in my tire. They refused to respond and take responsibility. We have not driven the car for over a week week. Now that I see all the reviews how they have ripped people off, its no surprise that they do not take responsibility for their actions. CHECK out ALL the Complaints and Rip OFF reports against this company!! Don't USE this company. EVER. And if they tow your parked car, make sure they are not engaging in predatory towing. TOTAL FRAUD. There are some responsible companies out there, this is NOT one of them. American Tow is indeed a vulture.

I'm writing this review as I wait for my tow truck to come. Which has been exactly 3 hrs! I just called and they said another 30 mins, which Is what they've been telling me all morning. I'm not even gonna wait for the driver to get here to write this review. 3 plus hours to wait!?

absolutely awful experience. I had to get my motorcycle towed one night, so I called AAA. They called these guys. The inbred redneck that drove the truck fucked-up my directions three times before he found me, and while he was tying my bike down he actually dropped it causing over $2,000 in damage. After getting three different quotes (2 dealers, 1 independent) I went to the owner and presented him with the average of the three, $1,800. He flat-out refused to pay it, saying that he knew this was going to happen and that I tried to cheat him. He said that if I took this to small claims, he would counter-sue for harassment. Eventually we negotiated down to $1,500, yet it took him a month to get the money together. Eventually I got the check and advised everyone on the local motorcycle forums as well as business's I see that use American Tow to choose another company. Throughout the entire process the owner was extremely domineering, rude, and very threatening. He even hinted that he could make my motorcycle disappear. Went to the BBB, thankfully he has lost tons of business
