Why bother? There are not a lot of open stores, not a lot of people in it. I guess the Reebok outlet is the main store, but it is lacking in selection. I would not consider these premium outlets, either.
They really could find a better use for this space - I don't get how an outlet fits into the whole Cannery Row scene anyhow. -

2.5 stars, rounded up.
It's potentially a great location. What brings it down? Part of what makes it such a good location: the aquarium
Aquarium-goers need to park, so all the parking near the aquarium is metered or timed (like on Central/Lighthouse). There are also for-fee lots. In order not to be flooded with aquarium-goers, this mall has to charge for its parking, too. Now, if you buy something, you get your parking validated, but what if you buy nothing? Besides, it's kind of a hassle to have to deal with the lot.
So poor customer flow, I think, is a big part of why this mall does poorly.
Another reason the customers don't come is that there is no anchor tenant, no big name to attract the crowds. Two of the most successful businesses here, First Awakenings and Archie's, are accessible without setting foot inside the mall. Diners have no need to go inside.
Also, tourists to Monterey come to see the aquarium, to see the bay, to see Cannery Row. They might notice that the area around the aquarium is pleasant, even pretty. Who wants to go to a mall in the middle of their vacation?
Having said that, there are some good shops here. First Awakenings has good food; Pendleton has great woolens; the Sock Shop has fun socks (if you're into that); the miniature golf place is fun; and there are deals to be had elsewhere as well.
I'd like for this place to succeed, but that's not up to me. -

It is so sad... The location is great and the potential is huge... However... it is so depressing :(

Review from Steve L.
Very sad that this outlet mall is mostly empty, with very few stores. I remembered 17 years ago, this place was bustling with shoppers. Darkness of the mall is more pronounced with fewer number of shoppers.
Only businesses that are bringing in people are restaurants such as First Awakenings.Listed in: Monterey/Carmel...

I'm not really sure what happened to this place...
10 years ago I would have given this Premium Outlet Mall 4-5 Stars as it was filled with awesome shops! That said, it STILL IS, but only about 6 of them with vacant space for about 50 more! Empty, feels so empty, but still worth visiting! -

There is nothing "premium" about these outlets. This place is empty and scary. It could also use a new paint job. The employees working in the retail stores look so depressed. They don't even notice a soul stepping into the store. People could make good business here if they wanted to, considering it's right by the Monterey Bay Aquarium (tourists! hello?). I would open up shop if I knew how.
Overall, it's just not worth visiting. This place is probably only useful for bathroom breaks, temporarily sheltering yourself from the sun, or using it as a shortcut walking from your metered parking spot to the MBA (instead of the narrow sidewalk). I really hate seeing potentially good space go to waste, but this seems to be one of them.Listed in: Pacific Grove

I remember going to this place when I was 8 years old. Fourteen years later and this outlet place has not changed at all!!! The only differene is that numbers of vacancies increased. There's nothing on the second level, except for a glow in the dark mini golf. At least the lower level has a couple of name brand stores.
I don't know why this outlet store doesn't attract tenants. It's in a prime location since it's not far from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
I feel sorry for this shopping center. -

Okay kids...I lived on the Peninsula when this place opened to much fanfare and excitement...and then...well...POOF!
at least nothing has changed much...just too bad that someone else hasn't figured out what to do with such a cool retail space... -
Review from Toni M.
Over the years I've watched this place wax and wane. It's pretty dim now. When I first encountered it decades ago it was cavernous and pathetic. Then it attracted some nice shops w/ interesting merchandise but one by one those shops have winked out, leaving it empty, dark and sad. There are still a few shops open, but almost nothing of interest. There are outlet malls that still are thriving, like those in Gilroy or Vacaville but many, like this one, have little to offer. There's a very good breakfast place, First Awakenings, and the view of the Bay from the veranda is lovely. Other than that...

The poor Tin Cannery. When I first moved here, they were about 3/4 full with tenants. Today it's just barely half full of tenants. I remember there was a great book store here, comic shop, electronics, shoes, and a hamburger grill. It's not quite the same today. As other reviews have said, it's downright sad. What's the most sad thing is that PG is missing out on it's sales tax revenue big time. This is a prime location next to the fish tank and all of its tourist traffic. Sadly, neither the tin cannery or the city can get stores to come to this location. It would solve a mess a city funding problems. The shoe store though is still worth coming to, but otherwise it's just okay. Nothing spectacular, but a reminder of how not to operate a shopping mall!

dead mall, walked in hoping to see anything alive sadly there was no shoppers it was a ghost town, sound of waves and sand washing in is apparent haha no sand inside literally but due to the amount of silence you think this whole mall was closed, useful for tourist who need to use the restrooms with are not to clean but again it is a dead mall
only store that seemed to get foot traffic was candy world all the rest were empty.
ambiance * star inside you get outside 4 stars -

This isn't a great outlet, I wouldn't go out of my way. If you have a couple of hour to waste then it is fine. Go early on the weekends, can get parking at the lot attached to the outlets. A few eateries.

Not as bad as others are making it out to be. Lots of empty spaces due to the economy and the high rent prices that this outlet mall commands, but there are some really unique places in here. I really like the candy land shop, miniature golf, and first awakenings, but even the cheap places to get some shoes or dress shirts are pretty good too.

We've been here twice. last year and last wknd. Many empty spots, but my wife is keen on the Pendleton store here. Great women's wool business suits outfits at great discount. My fav is the Bass store. I bought a great pair of shoes here last year, and bought another pair this year plus a pair of surf waders, hiking boots, and a belt. These were all 40 to 70% off retail. But the greatest buy was at the Van Heusen store. As in $60 shirts for $10. $70 trousers for $14. Lots of great bargains and great selections, quality stuff. And the Bass store gave me a $5 coupon for Van Heusen.

The best thing the "outlets" were good for was a bit of respite from the rain! That and maybe the bathrooms, if we had needed them. The outlet is a ghost town with a few smattering of lonely, overpriced stores.
