I'm a contractor and this is my favorite place to get materials. I like it so much that I wish I did more tile jobs, so that I could come here more than I do. There's sometimes a clique-y, old-boys' club thing at a lot of lumber yards and supply houses. For real: go to Ganahl lumber looking like a mere homeowner and try to find a sales person who'll be helpful or nice. Typically you'll feel either ignored or like you're somewhere you're not supposed to be.
In contrast, American Tile is like a Spanish-speaking version of the sitcom Cheers for people who want to buy tile. There's a cool fatherly kind of guy who's like a hispanic Yoda and a few cute girls behind the counter. My part-time Guatemalan employee would like to treat one of those girls like his princess. -

While they have a pretty strong selection here, the employees that were working weren't exactly the most helpful when my wife and I stopped by... There were a couple employees helping out a couple other people, and the remaining employees were busier catching up on gossip with one another, then to spend time with us. We definitely don't need our hands held through the whole experience, but we wanted to make sure we didn't overlook any tile options within their huge inventory.
My wife said that on a former visit their was another guy who spent A LOT of time explaining tiling etc, so maybe it was just an off day for the employees.Listed in: Buying a house?

Great selection of reasonably priced tile for floors, bathrooms, kitchens, and other tile projects. Staff is super helpful, and it's conveniently located right next to the Cypress Park Home Depot, in case you are there anyway buying other home improvement stuff. After discussion with the staff person, I was helpfully steered away from a much costlier option, and chose something much more within our budget that also looks great. He definitely wanted to help us rather than jack up the prices on us. So rare! Turnaround time for our order was quick and reliable. I was impressed by the knowledge and courtesy of everyone I spoke to. High praise!
Hint - they rent tile saws and other machinery at much lower prices than Home Depot next door.
Bonus hint - You'll probably do much better here if you speak Spanish, but they definitely have English speaking staff too. -

I did my kitchen, bath and porch with American Tile-- I am not a professional, and the staff was a great help and patient. The sales people were friendly and responsive. They did lots of little extras for me including special orders, reorders, and just holding my hand through the entire experience including letting me check out samples to see the materials in my own home. I saved lots of money over designer tile shops that just were not that nice to me and seemed uninterested in my budget. This shop is super easy to get to near downtown. My tile looks awesome, very modern, and it looks expensive! Thanks~ wish I had more places to tile!

We had a great experience shopping at American Tile, the staff was very helpful in aiding our selection and recommended a fantastic installer (Eduardo). We paid for the granite on a Wednesday, the installer picked it up and it was installed on Saturday. We came in far enough under budget that we were able to upgrade the sink and faucets we installed as well--How often does anything come in under budget!
We highly recommend checking them out if you're in the Silverlake / Echo Park area and are in the market for tile or granite!
Great prices.
Huge selection.
Incredibly friendly and helpfull staff. -

I have to admit we also had a good experience here. Great prices, nice staff that was helpful when we were ready to be helped, a great selection that we didn't find anywhere else. The other review was right on all accounts. We had a mix up with the color of the tile and these guys handled it quickly and professionally. All in all we will go back here when we start on the bathrooms. We were working on the kitchen and dining room, and the quote from Lowes was 3,000 dollars without even picking the tile yet. Instead we went and found our own tile guy, he recommended this place and we saved 2,000 dollars on the project, you can't beat that. The only downside which wasn't that big of a hastle is the parking is limited but it never becme a problem.
