Review from Kyle M.
Brentwood, CA
This is a great paintball spot. I was hooked after my first visit. This place stands out among paintball fields even though it's still in development stages. Here's a little pros and cons list.
PROS
1) Cliff (the owner) is super friendly and very involved.
2) The referees were really good too. They paid close attention and made fair calls.
3) The fields were great. 3 hay fields, a spool field, a door field, and a mound field.
4) Not much waiting time between games which is nice if you need to take a break.
5) Lunch is provided!
CONS
1) Small parking lot
2) Only one bathroom (don't worry, it's clean)
3) Compressor only fills tanks up to 3000 psi (still enough to play a long tme)
Most of the cons are because they're still in development stages. I recommend this place especially if you're a newer player. Cliff does a good job making sure you don't get overpowered or grouped up with people that have way more experience. -
Review from Michael M.

I don't know what else to add that has not already been said.
1) Cliff greeted me in parking lot the both times I went
2) Lunch (2 hotdogs and bag of chips!)
3) Attentive Refs
4) Switching off on different fields
5) No airball
6) No CO2
7) No attitude
8) Short wait times between sets of games
9) Smaller parking lot then other fields
10) Cliff does help newer players and will stop the game if someone is about to be overpowered.
I have seen fields come and go over the years and I am hoping American Paintball is one that lasts a while. -

Great paintballing spot. This was actually my first time and they greet and help you. Fields were nice and better than I would expect. They come back and check how you are doing. Water and Gatorade are not overpriced and reasonable priced, did not expect that since they can raise their prices if you run out of water. Overall very good experience!

Been here once and had a great time, plan on going again sometime. All the reviews about the owner and how the field is run is 100% accurate. This is a great Recball field for the beginner to the occasional player. The doors field and the combined hay bale fields were my favourites at this park. Can't wait to go back to see what is next for this field. My only complaint is the age restriction of 12 years, Which makes it not as likely that I will be going here as frequently as I would like. I have a 10 year old who loves to play and this is the only field that requires 12 years or older, so for that I leave less one star and my only complaint, I hope this policy can change soon.

I've been Playing paintball for about 8 years and have been to most of the places in the bay area and have had plenty of good and bad experiences. Field is pretty nice, kinda remote location... but not too bad. Staff are super friendly and very accommodating for every level of player. Fields were a bit sparse per my Fall visit, but I don't know how much you can expect for a new paintball place. I can see them going places, especially with the staff being as awesome as they are and the almost no limits of location.
Definitely going back soon -

Entering in the parking lot, Cliff and Chicken (the dog) was right there to meet u. He introduces himself and makes an effort to actually memorize your name...They have a few different fields: Doors, dirt mounds, spools, 2 different hay stacks. The doors is the best field to be on because it allows u to run around before getting shot. But overall Cliff makes it fair for everyone and doesn't allow people to over power a person

The owners are super nice here! Came here on a light rainy day and I had fun regardless. Paintball is so fun! the $60 rental is so worth it if you come here from open to close. Definitely coming back!

I went paint balling for the first time at American Paintball Park with a private group. Their rental equipment was in good shape, the staff was friendly, safety rules were strictly enforced, lunch was a great price, and we had tons of fun.

I've been to about 5 different fields around the area, from Davis down to Hollister and I have to say this is my favorite so far. Cliff, who is funny and cares a great deal about his players, is definitely the main reason why this place is so great. But the field itself is pretty nice too. There's a lot of space for cool future development so we're excited.
We brought a few boxes of paint that was kinda old and apparently hurt other players too much so Cliff traded us those for his newer, less painful paint at no charge. At other places they might have just said no and made us buy their paint.
Loved the scenery too: windmills, cows grazing, and what looked like little prairie dogs digging holes and running around. We all had a great time and will definitely be back soon. -

Cliff the owner takes his time to get to know everyone that visits his field.
The staff is very attentive and makes sure everyone has a fun time. Also Cliff and staff tries there best to make a fair and fun game for everyone.Listed in: Paintball fields

Review from Erik G.
Preface: I've been playing paintball or over 20 years. If there is one thing I know it's paintball.
So I heard about American Paintball Park online back in April and I finally made out it out in late May. This park opened in Dec 2010 and has attracted mainly parties and local rec ballers. Most players I talked to out there were new or fairly new, and I think there may have been 1 or 2 players there who had any kind of airball or tournament experience.
They have 5 rec ball fields: 3 made from hay bails, 1 from wood spools and 1 with mounds of dirt. They have a pretty nice air compressor, but they only fill to 3000psi (rather then 4500psi). All their rental equipment is new (some of the masks were still in plastic), and they run Tippman 98's for rental markers (pretty standard).
The refs are local kids who play there, but since the player base at this field is more newer players, they didn't seem to have any difficulty keeping players in line and the games going. They made sure before every set of games everyone was re-chronographed (thanks god, a few of the guys were having issues and their guns were shooting WAY hot).
This field has NO airball or tournament type set up, and I'm not even sure if the owners entend to go that way or keep it strictly recball.
I love going to new fields, before the owners and staff get burned out or the often obnoxious tournament players take over. Cliff, the owner, took the time to walk the parking lot and meeting everyone he didn't already know (including me), asking questions and generally being super nice. The refs were all nice, like I said no obnoxious tournament player attitudes.
Entry for a fully self equipped played with their own paint was $30 (entry for all day, plus air). That's just above average for most fields ($25 is about average), but it includes a free lunch (a couple of hotdogs).
They have a good thing going here, it's about a mile off highway 580 right near Lawrence Livermore Labs. And I don't know why all paintball fields are always next to cow lots or stock yards, but they are no exception. Moooo! They have a medium size gravel parking lot, and a lot of wood spools for tables. I didn't see any available water, and they had 1 big porta-john for the field (they might want to get a few more).
If you are a newer player or someone looking for a place to have a b-day party or something like there, but are worried, you should take a look at American Paintball Park. It's a relaxed casual atmosphere, just what new players need.
Thumbs up to Cliff and his crew, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for their park! -

I played at this field this afternoon after just getting back into paintball from a 10 year LOA. Being the 3rd field I played at in 3 days since getting back into the groove of the sport, I must say this one rated pretty damn good. No there is no air ball, but I must say I had a good time playing out there. It taught me a lesson...just because you like and are used to playing air ball type of fields, doesn't mean you cant have fun elsewhere.
Great experience and I will definitely be back to spend some time here...and its within driving distance without spending hours in the car to get to a field. I will say that what did make it even more attractive was the staff...Refs were cool and actually checked players during game time, the staff was very friendly and last...it was organized. Pace was proper, breaks, announcements to get on the field, chrono prior to playing...all under control and everything flowed as it should.
Thanks for the great experience...I only review those that deserve reviews and this place definitely deserved it. Keep up the good customer service and the opportunity for people to enjoy whether renting or self equipped. See you all soon. -

There's probably not much I can add that haven't already been said, but I'll say this:
I've been to a couple of the fields around NorCal, and this is by FAR the best one!
This was my first visit, and I immediately felt like one in the family. Staff and players were all super-friendly!
Keep it up Cliff! -

Firdt of all if you are new to this or are taking kids ...THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!!!!The field space and location ALONE get 4 Stars....
but Cliff , I believe is the owner/manager runs his place right and does his customers right. I took my 12yo son and 13yo nephew to play for the first time and his staff just make the whole experience the greatest .. ALL guest are treated like not just a guest but an VIP.(is u can use the term when you are running around smacking eachother with paint coming 280 fps. As i said before i dont give 5 stars often but this place was that good.
I emailed him the night before and he came right up to me and said hey i got your email we got it. I even left the house with out a hopper elbow and he had one. during play one of my own markers went out. And they gave me a loaner. The field fee and air, together are a little more pricey than others but hey, when you get service and just the personal touch they have....its worth it.. they have hotdog lunch at noon .... games all day .. will refer friends and be back ..fo sho! 5 STARS .. if i could give one more i would .. Thanks American Paintball Park -

The place is awesome and the people who run it are chill and know what they're doing. Their prices are decent and they provide a delicious and filling lunch for only $2. Out of all the fields I've been to, this is my favorite.

Went there today to celebrate the 4th of July. For a free lunch and raffle, can't go wrong either (Thanks for that!). This is a great place to play for the casual player. Cliff and the staff are friendly and are safety oriented. The chrono'ing before each set of games is good. They also make sure to get people out playing as much as play as possible. With it being hot, they didn't push it too much and gave adequate time before each set of games. If you're new and/or young, he will make sure to look after you so as not to have your day of play ruined.
I had fun playing with everyone and will be there from time to time to get away from the grind of competitve type play. Met some people from BAPMUG (http://www.meetup.com/...) as well as some others. There's also a friendly atmosphere and people are willing talk or help out.
I am still rehabbing from knee issues and didn't know how I would do with having to kneel/crouch on the field. Wasn't as bad as I thought and got a decent workout from it.
Cliff, sorry for making you run so much in one game to check me as I kept getting hit in the goggles but nothing was breaking (lucky).
A suggestion to those that go, bring an ez-up (or something to provide shade) on those hot days. -

Pleasanton, CA
Very fun field run by attentative and helpful staff.
I played here with myself and my young son and found a new favorite field in the bay area. Most fields cater to a certain type of player and this job does a fantastic job of catering towards rental, new and casual recreational players. This means they don't allow swearing, people to "beat up" on new players and make sure everyone is having a good time.
I've played for quite a while and it has been a long time since I have played at a field this fun. It is almost a throw back of paintball of the 90's that was just fun with friends for an afternoon.
This place would get 6 stars if I could give it. A+ customer service. I wish everyone new to this game would be able to play here first to make sure they have a great time. -
Review from Nicholas P.
San Jose, CA
This field is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of playing at. Cliff the owner is great and really made it a point to try to get to know your name and do anything he could to make your experience one of the best. The fields are great, even with the exclusion of an airball field its definitely not a big deal here. If you like that style of play the haystack fields are setup in a way that allow you to play it like an airball field. Even the spools has a similar play.
The mounds was just insane with all the grass on them after the recent rain. You pretty much had to play the tape the whole time because you really couldnt see anyone if you stayed in the center.
Another thing that makes this place amazing is the ease of paying. If you go to the website you actually have the option to pay for everything ahead of time through their ordering system and paypal. I payed the night before and all i did was print out a copy of the email receipt just to make sure. The prices are great and $2 got you 2 hotdogs and a bag of chips for lunch. Not a bad price when you compare to any other place out there.
American Paintball Park has easily become my regular field to play at even with the 40min drive from San Jose to Livermore. In my opinion the drive is worth the customer service you get. My only suggestion for this field is to enforce a no Red or Pink filled paintballs as they stain clothing, and tend not to be very eco friendly. -

Review from Michael M.
Menlo Park, CA
This place is run by the best people I've ever come in contact with at a paintball place. Cliff and the others on his staff are AMAZING. My friends and I play paintball once every 1-2 months all around the bay and this place is by far my favorite.
Pros:
1. Cliff - Just a great guy who cares about his guests. My wife was all alone on the field and about to meet a very painful end at very close range. Cliff was right on top of it and stopped the play right before she got tagged by three people. It was already over but most people would have just watched and let her get hurt at close range.
2. Price - Very very reasonable. They let you bring your own paint too! If you forget to bring your own, the paint they do sell is pretty cheap. They're not trying to gouge you. Lunch was also quite inexpensive.
3. The field - Very nice setting. Pretty fields and a great view. Not muddy like many fields. Not as far away from the bay area as other quality fields like Davis.
4. The courses - Good mix of spools, mounds, and hay bales. They have a bunch of doors and other building equipment laying around so you know there'll be more soon. Not the most intricate field I've been to but it's relatively early days.
5. The other staff members/refs - Unlike the vast majority of other fields I've been to, the staff here are courteous and the refs don't act like amped up power-crazed little weirdos like on many fields.
6. The absolute best part though is the lack of waiting. Unlike ALMOST EVERY OTHER FIELD, this place plays on a quick turnaround schedule rather than waiting for every single slow rude unprepared person to get their acts together. You get A LOT of games in for your money and you get a lot of chances to reload/fuel.
Cons:
1. The crouching - There's not a lot of places you can comfortably take cover while standing/leaning/sitting. You're crouching 95% of the time and it does get old after a while... and wears you out.
2. It is a new field so it's not as developed as some, but as I said they're working on it and have new materials on hand so it'll be more built up soon.
3. There's not very much parking so come early.
Basically if you're new to paintball or you're tired of the BS at other fields, you should try American Paintball Park. We'll be back often. -

What can I say that already hasn't been said? Cliff, Diane and everyone else is great! Cliff is super cool, very helpful and serious about safety. Paint is resonable for good quality paint and food and drinks are really inexpensive ($2 for 2 dogs and a drink anyone?) The refs are all very good, especially James and Cliff himself. They work hard out there. If you haven't been, check this place out. You will not be disappointed!

Change the rating from 4 actually 4.5 to 5 stars.
Cons:
Reasons for 4 stars (else 5)
They need more than one "porta potty" and a place to wash your hands.
(Revised) The potty is maintained very well and they added running water with soap to wash your hands. (Yeah!!) Talk about customer responsiveness
The parking lot is small for now, so get their early. Some shade is available. For those looking for speed-ball, they do not have a field. Their field paint did not always break on impact. I receive three shots to the chest without a break (I am not padded or overweight and we were not shooting through the tall grass - ouch).
Pros:
The owner (Cliff Mathews) and his wife work to provide their "guest" or clients a wonderful experience. One is treated like an honored guest. The referees monitor all the action & players very well and are not afraid of being "painted" while aiding a player or keeping a player from becoming overwhelmed by an opposing team. They ensure the teams are evenly matched and that all non-rental markers are not shooting hot (limit 285 fps). Cost is typical of most Northern CA fields. Rental marker are new or less than a year old (Tippmann 98). We came self equipped and one is allowed to use outside paint without a fee (yeah!). We experience equipment failure with one of our personal markers and one our own electric loader, they provided my son an electric loader to test out and allowed us to use one of their rental markers to continue in the fun without charge (customer service = great). They practice true customer service, THANK YOU. From our experience all the players were very mannerable and helpful with the novices.
If you rent your equipment, the masks are new and yours to keep. This is wonderful for your hygiene. You do not have to worry about a scratch up lens or worn facial pads inside the masks. The mask is nice for those starting the sport.
Fields are nicely put together. We truly enjoyed the overgrown grass (TALL grass) on the mounds. Talk about fear around every corner, being shot from someone hiding in the grass, or look out for your camo-opponent appearing out nowhere -- what a rush & lots of FUN. What a wonderful way to get a welt.
They are adding new fields and one can see the growth.
5 star for customer service, wonderful staff, and FUN.
Overall: You will enjoy yourself and if Yelp allowed us to my rating is 4.5 stars. THANK YOU & we will be back with friends. (revised to 5 stars on 11/13/11 Thank you once again for not neglecting the walk-on-rec. players during your tournament on 11/1. -

My boys (age 14 and 17) went to American Paintball park today and came home Stoked! They had such a great time and the owner Cliff was super nice. They have been to other paintball places in the area and said this place was so great because it had multiple types of fields and like I said, Cliff was really great with them. I dropped them off and picked them up 4 hours later and they were all smiles. I highly recommend this place.

My son and his buddy had an incredible time there. They were put with a bunch of boys around their age which was perfect. They have several different fields and the boys get an opportunity to play both sides of each field. The owners and staff were awesome and made sure everyone was having a great time. They serve 2 hot dogs and a bag of chips for lunch for $2 which the boys said were yummy. They were grilled right at lunch time so not sitting on a machine rotating for hours. The boys can't wait to go back!

Awesome fields! Awesome owners and staff! I had the privilege of playing the fields prior to officially opening. I also played at the Grand Opening event on 12/11/2010. The place is huge! 6.6 acres of playing fields. Conveniently located off of 580 in Livermore, this place is the perfect location. You gotta check this place out! Tell them Billy D. sent you.

This was an awesome field! I know every review mentions how great Cliff is, after going to the field you will understand why. He is very friendly and goes out of his way to make sure people have a great time. I would come back just because of him! The great part is the field is also very fun and I can't wait to see all the new fields that they are planning on putting together. If you haven't been here yet, you must try it out. Definitely one of the top fields in norcal. I have been to fields all over.

Best paintball park in the Bay Area. They have multiple fields of spools, haybales, dirt mounds, and now doors. Been playing for 8 years and been to most places in the bay area. They have the best refs I have ever seen. Great customer service and a friendly attitude. $2 for lunch is also nice.

Great place for anyone looking to have fun. Beginner, Intermediate or expert players should attend. Clifton & Family of employees are great. A big time family like atmosphere. The field selections are great. A good mixture of different fields. Players there we attended with were kind enough to help us beginners (of course off the field, on the field it was all fun competition). I'll be heading down there sometime soon.

My first time to this new paintball park. I have been playing for 20 years off and on. I had not played sense 2006. Playing at American Paintball Park reminded me why I love playing so much. Cliff , the owner and his wife really make everyone feel welcome. My son and I played all day and left with big smiles on our faces. There were some first timers and also some experienced players all playing together. Cliff did a great job keeping the teams even. Players safety is there first priority as well it should be. The fields are close to the parking lot so not a lot of walking between games. It is a brand new park with a bright future. I look foward to playing there again soon.
