1 review for American Museum of Ceramic Art
I just visited AMOCA recently for the Frank Boyden/Tom Coleman show, "On the River Through the Valley of Fire." Awesome stuff.
Both artists collaborated on nearly every piece in this exhibit and the artistry and attention to detail on each pot is amazing. Most of the pieces are woodfired, but several pieces were fired in a gas kiln. It's pretty amazing to see the results these ceramicists/potters can achieve. The combination of Tom Coleman's masterful throwing, Frank Boyden's skillful line drawings, and their careful manipulation of the clay's surface results in a collection of pieces that need to be seen in person in order to be fully appreciated.
To put their level of work in perspective, let me just mention that one of their pieces is now in the Smithsonian. If that doesn't impress you, I don't know what will.
Unfortunately, this exhibit is only open through February 14th. So, if you want to catch this show, you'd better hurry!
