A clean house is so very relaxing.
I used my Groupon today and had the best experience out of the previous 3 cleanings I've had with other companies. My previous experiences with other cleaning services have actually mde me hesitant to try another service, because I felt as though I was wasting money on what looked like a pretty mediocre job. But today I was pretty impressed.
Making the appointment was fairly easy. They decided on 1 person for 4 hours, and that person was set to arrive between 7-8 am. At 6:58 am, my doorbell rang and Natalia arrived lugging what was probably 100 lbs. of cleaning supplies & a vacuum.
I was working from home and so was present while she was cleaning. Aside from an awfully loud vacuum, you would never have known she was there. She seems to have been very thorough, especially in the kitchen & bath-- which is the most important in my book-- and everything looks great. She even cleaned the dishes my husband left in the sink. You know, because it's achingly far from the dishwasher...easily 2 inches. In any case, I'll review my husband separately. I would use American Maids again. -

Very poor job. Still trying to figure out what they cleaned. Seriously. My girlfriend told them to clean kitchen and bathroom. Two girls were here for 2 hours, and they only cleaned the kitchen and bathroom? They were pretty clean to begin with.
So confused. I was working, girlfriend dealt with them, perhaps she did not give good enough direction?

So it's been a year of weekly service (hit or miss with the cleaning after the 1st few dynamic jobs but nothing major) since my last review and today I fired American Maids. I recently went on a 1 week vacation and my house was empty....no one was there and American Maids decided that a $25 charge would be my punishment for giving them the week off! I inquired if they would reconsider and sadly I learned that $25 meant more than my loyalty as a weekly client. SIDEBAR: I was here when the maids returned after my vacation and they actually finished 20 minutes earlier than usual (hence no one was here & there was nothing to do). Some polices require a revision if you desire to stay in this competitive market. Not very bright!

WOW! SAME ABYSMAL COMPANY ON HERE TWICE!!!! Guess they didn't like all the scathing reviews previously posted by so many customers?
Used them today as a Groupon. They did a poor job, didn't finish cleaning ANY room, kept stopping to find eachother on different floors of the house to chat and then left early. When I called the owner to discuss, her reply was that she didn't believe me, didn't care and that since I'd paid the Groupon price, I should not have expected them to do a good job.
That's American Maids, everybody! If you want your house cleaned, you'll need to hire a different company!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I used a groupon and found the cleaning to be very good. Two ladies showed up on time at 715am and worked for two hours. They concentrated on the kitchen and bathroom which was fine as these rooms needed a cleaning. I would refer the service to friends and family.

After receiving a few "courtesey calls" that my appointment would be pushed back an hour, then 5 minutes later receive another one stating they could be 30 minutes late, I informed the person on the line, they could show up at 3 pm. I was not going to wait around all day while they figure out when they may show up or not - hello inconsistency.
I came home only to have to re- clean my entire apartment. They didn't dust, didn't clean the bathroom. A new crew came to the condo and did a lousy job. Then when I asked how much it was, they said I had to call on Monday.....seriously, you did a lousy job and can't call someone to figure out payment. Don't waste your time with American Maids. Again, I can handle the less then prompt arrival however, the poor quality job no thanks.... -

I used a groupon for the first cleaning with American Maids. It was the best job any maid service has done in my house. Because I was so impressed, I scheduled another cleaning. The team that arrived this time did not do as good a job. We had a part of our window frame exposed (drywall was cut out a few days before their arrival) so that our contractor could measure and order a new window for us. There was no window being removed or installed the day they came, but they said the reason they didn't dust any of the window sills was because we were having windows installed. Not true. There was no one there installing windows. My husband was home and was working in our furnace room in the basement. They did not clean the shower walls either. I contacted their management office who was willing to give me 10% off on my next cleaning.
I am giving them 3 stars because my first cleaning was so great. I would use them again, but only if I could use the first team who cleaned my house. -

My sweet husband got me American Maids Groupon as a nesting gift (as you are too pregnant to clean, but I don't want to do it).
I was at first a little skeptical. I have never used a cleaning service before and growing up military, I am pretty hard to please about cleaning.
So last week I called to book the appointment. My little one is due anytime now and I was holding off using it until then. When I called they said they had to email me this form and then they could tell me when they could do it. I was frustrated because I had wanted to book it and be done. I filled out the form emailed back and they called me in a half hour. I told them I needed them to come within the next week. She asked if she could look over her schedule and call me back. Thus my hesitation. I was thinking great, I'll just clean it myself. She promptly emailed me some times and asked what time would be better. Two of the three times conflicted with my schedule so I picked 1-3 (I thought that meant they would clean between 1-3 which in actuality was the arrival window). The appointment setter called the day before and confirmed the time telling me they would arrive between 1 -1:30 PM. I was like oh, OK. No big deal, not like I am going anywhere.
The ladies showed up at 1:05 and ready to clean. They asked for my direction. I told them I just need you to clean what I can't which: is my bathroom, and kitchen, dust EVERYTHING!, clean the floors and vacuum. They went straight to work.
My kitchen didn't look this good when I moved into this place. They did a phenomenal job. They could reach places I couldn't and they cleaned things I didn't think of. AND they finished early and asked for more things to do!!
As a side note they didn't mind when my daughters where playing with the duster and asking them how they could help them clean.
They had a great attitude and did fantastic work. My husband gets an EXTREMELY happy wife. -

I had the Groupon and was looking forward to getting my relatively grungy home cleaned by pros. Since I had answered questions via email and by phone, I expected to have a great experience.
Meh.
They were due at 12:30. At 12:23 I received a phone call saying that if I didn't provide a parking space, I would have to pay for their meter. Excuse me? Where was that in the fine print? That's just tacky. Sorry. Life's tough. Feed your own meter. But in order to save time and be polite, I called my doorman and asked if we had any spaces these people could use for two hours. Gentleman that he is, my doorman came through.
When the two ladies came in, I showed them around. They saw my built-in bookshelves. And I said I'd like them to dust. The shelves are glass. I am not even certain they dusted them at all because they still have a fine layer of what I call "city dust" on them. I do know they didn't dust the knickknacks. I also thought they did a sloppy job on the baseboards.
They didn't do a great job in the kitchen on the stainless steel. That was one of the items I mentioned in a pre-visit email, so they should have been prepared.
At least my bedroom is looking good. -

After rough moments with other cleaning services (I'm looking at you, Manic Maids), I found American Maids and I couldn't be more thrilled.
Ilona's teams are awesome and, though there is sometimes a language barrier, the ladies always do a terrific job. I was even hesitant to write this review because I don't want it to be even tougher for me to get a Saturday appointment! But they deserve the credit. They are licensed & bonded which is great, because though they are on par with pricing on Craigslist, ($20-25 per person/per hour), with Craigslist you never know who you're inviting into your home.
Definitely will use American Maids again and again and highly recommend them. -

OK... This was the very first time I ever hired a cleaning service and I didn't know what to expect. Well, color me thrilled!
I had requested a deep clean, and I didn't realize how nice my apartment can look. The crew of 2 arrived right on time, and when the job seemed to be going over 3 hours - I was asked permission for more time and to add another crew member (yeah, I didn't realize my apartment needed that much work, either!). A little less than 4.5 hours - and my place looks and smells amazing.
Minor issue - but not enough to ding the rating - It doesn't appear that my living room couch and chair were vacuumed under the cushions. Outside - they did - and no small feat considering I have two cats that cannot stand being brushed!
I am very satisfied and first thing Monday - I'm scheduling regular service with American Maids. -

I used my American Maids Groupon today - and I was VERY pleased! They were fast, efficient, and thorough. Two women were here for two hours.
The women who cleaned my apartment were Lyuba and Olga. Nice ladies!
I' will use American Maids again. -

I hired American Maids to clean my two-bedroom apartment in Oak Park. They did a spectacular job every time and I would recommend them to my friends. There was one scheduling mix-up, but we're all human beings here and Neli offered compensation far beyond what was necessary.
She even kept in touch after I moved and had to stop using them. I was really sad to see Stacey go when I moved too. She was an inspiring person to meet and I hope she's doing well. -

I purchased the Groupon for this company and just had my appointment today. I know other people had some issues with AM, Groupon users in particular, but I think it was probably a case of "too much success". Sounds like they got hit with more business than they realized they were going to get. I made sure I read the fine print carefully before purchasing the Groupon AND I made my appointment about three weeks in advance. I was fully expecting them to be slammed with Groupon business. Overall, I think my experience was quite positive. I had team #4 doing my cleaning. The girls were quick and efficient. My kitchen is SO CLEAN, it's wonderful. Even my photo frames were wiped clean. I just moved in to this apartment, so it was a pretty quick job as I don't have a lot of furniture. I got a couple non-standard items included since they finished so quickly. I would definitely use them again!

I was wavering between 1 or 3 stars, so this is my compromise. With my Groupon, I had to book a cleaning 4 1/2 weeks out. Ok. Not happy, but what was my choice? 3 for the cleaning in nooks and crannies. 1 for the damage and not cleaning that occurred in the less than promised amount of time for cleaning.
The crew arrived on time, at 12:30. They left at 2:10. Um, that's not the full 4 man hours. Even that, I was ok with. However well this crew cleaned, a few major issues. First, my brand new microwave was SCRATCHED like I've never seen before. It was over the number/touch pad and it was ridiculously obvious. Cleaner was left slopped and dripping on one of my cabinets (still not sure what it was). The kitchen sink was left on the entire time. REALLY??? What was the point of wasting so much water? Thankfully, I don't pay for it, but... My glass top coffee table was dusted off, not cleaned - it took me all of 60 seconds afterwards with Windex. When the girls walked in, I specifically said I needed the floors and baseboards cleaned - my place is entirely hard wood floors. After they left, I had to get on my hands and knees (not so easy these days) and scrub my floor. Running a mop over the floors does not make for a clean floor.
Overall, I certainly would NOT use this service again, nor would I recommend them. Perhaps it was my particular crew, but they left my condo certainly less dusty, but almost a week later, I'm still pissed off about my microwave and floors.Comment from Ilona E. of American Maids 8/13/2011

I purchased a Groupon for American Maids months ago. I have called them repeatedly to set up appointments to use the Groupon and have never been able to schedule one. They finally scheduled an appointment for me, and are supposed to come tomorrow. I have just been informed that they will not be coming because apparently they have a new policy about houses being required to have air conditioning in order to qualify for cleaning. Our house was built in 1874. It does not, of course, have central air. They have just cancelled my cleaning appointment even though when I made the appointment I communicated with them EXTENSIVELY about the house and explained that we'd have people visiting. I now find myself up the proverbial creek with a useless Groupon and a houseful of out of town guests. I am EXTREMELY displeased with my experience all the way around.

We were attracted to this service by a Groupon. The attraction was validated by great service. We are in a vintage high rise that had not been professional cleaned since we moved in over a year ago. I don't think the building did much before we moved in, so a professional job was much needed. We had two extraordinary women who worked magic! The old tile bathroom floors looked great, the stove top which I had done everything to get clean looked new! They were so efficient, hard working and yet inconspicuous. A perfect team! And, yes, we have booked them for a return performance.

The best option out there if you are looking for maids that use eco-friendly products. Our house is a decent size and, on top of that, we have a 2 year old. They get everything cleaned thoroughly and will even wash greasy pots and pans.

Inconsistent performance, came when specifically directed and agreed they would not and set off the alarm (we were out of the country), apparently stopped cleaning large portions of the building common area for months at a time.
We'd been using them for over a year. Initially they were great, the same people would come and do a good job. Eventually, they started sending different people each time and we'd notice areas that used to be cleaned that were being ignored. We mostly didn't switch out of laziness. The final straw was when they set off our alarm because they came when they said they wouldn't.
It was shocking that they would do this, they had every unit in the building and the common area as well. The owner would try to refute some of the comments I made along the way, but I don't believe she ever showed up to personally verify my comments. -

I'm so happy to have finally found a good cleaning service! I'd been looking especially for a service that uses green products and had a difficult time finding one with good reviews that would service our area. Our appointment was for a one-time cleaning. With two dogs, the fur seems to multiply and we really wanted someone to come in and scrub everything! The three ladies that were sent to our house arrived on time and did an excellent job cleaning. The price was also reasonable and within the quoted range ($120 for a three bedroom house, one-time cleaning.) We couldn't be happier with the service and now we're going to sign-up for bi-weekly cleanings.

These maids are great, very punctual and trustworthy. The house is always immaculate when they're through with it, I always get a rush when I walk in the door after a long day of work and the house is dust and dirt free! I just learned that they do use Eco-Friendly products, except to clean the toilets with which is ok because they need to get that extra-heavy bacteria out of there. Ilona, the owner, is friendly and responsive, scheduling is very quick and painless, especially compared to other maid servies in the area. Don't hesitate to use this company...

I was a loyal customer for over three years. Never once complained. They switched maids and my house has not been cleaned since. I recently had things taken from my house that I was letting them use while they were here. I have had mold growing in my bathroom and have complained for the past few weeks. I have been calling for weeks and they have sent no one back out to guarantee their cleaning which they state all over their website. Not to mention they sent a letter saying that everyones rates were going up 30% and took payment out of credit card without authorization! Terrible customer service. I highly recommend you stay away from this company. They have been going downhill for the past 8mo. Take it from a once loyal customer who has been taken advantage of.

hey, just joined just to leave a review for this place. Despite some of the bad reviews, I am an optimist and decided to rely on the positive reviews.. well my bad! While they did clean the place in a good way.. just missing a few small things, they were SO SLOW! I had other cleaning people at my place and other home, but never seen 2 girls that slow! Plus they let my dog out of the crate.. but they do not know how it happened ..weird! and they were trying to get extra trash bag for them. like stealing.. indeed.. when I asked the girl why she was taking all these trash bag.. she answered.. oh no! euh... take back ... it is yours!...OK well then who knows why she took it in the first place! SO unprofessional.. now I am waiting for the unpleasant bill.! and will try another place for sure!

I recently requested a deep cleaning and a deep cleaning it was not. I would barely call it a regular cleaning. After they were "done" I had to remind them to clean the base boards which they claimed they did (but were still dusty), the window sills, and ceiling fans. Then their manager showed up and made them redo the bathroom and improve on the kitchen. Even after the manager came I still found more things that were not cleaned. After awhile i just gave up and cut my losses. Maybe they were new (who knows), but for what I spent, I will never use them again. Like the old saying goes, if you want something done right, you better do it yourself.

My wife asked me to book a cleaning service before we had company over for Christmas. She recently had surgery and wasn't going to be able to deep clean the house. And, we had been searching for a company to clean our house on a more regular basis, so we thought we would trial run a company for a pre-Christmas clean. This company charges by the hour, they charged us $22.50/per girl and 2 girls came to the house for a total of $45/hour. This is important because as my wife told me, they were slow as molasses and seemed to be milking the hourly rate. Our house took 4 hours to clean with the basement alone taking over an hour for 2 girls to clean. There is no way, even with a deep clean, that our basement takes an 2 hours (2 girls, 1 hour each) to clean. My wife then called them on the fact they were dilly dallying, so then they started rushing and missed all sorts of obvious things. For the $160 that we were charged, nothing should have been missed. I am sure that American Maids has many maids that are great, hence the many 5 star reviews which prompted me to call them, but the 2 girls we had that day were not star performers. Oh well, on to the next company.

Fantastic Job! Very thorough! Would highly recommend. Hoping to have them come every other week to keep my house clean for my family, esp. my 10-month old crawler. I appreciate that they use 'green' products for that very reason! :)

I have been using Ilona's service for almost five years and couldn't imagine what I would do without them. I schedule my cleanings every two weeks for months in advance, they have never missed a day and the apartment is always in fantastic shape when I get home from work. They are trustworthly and I have nothing but great things to say about them. Pricing is very affordable for the great work they do. Best service in the city, hands down.
