I'm confused by the bad reviews!
I started my laser hair removal treatment here last year and have been more than satisfied. This place is definitely a tad bit too expensive, but that is so worth it when you consider the professionalism, kindness, and overall good service that the employees here provide. Not to mention the national network that allows you to continue services pretty much anywhere in the country in case you end up moving, which is the case for me.
I was referred to American Laser by a friend and would follow in her footsteps of referring to my friends, it's a solid business. -

I started getting laser hair removal treatments from this business in NYC and I did have pretty good results. However, when I moved and needed to finish my treatments down here, the results were horrible. They were a franchise at the time and so scared to turn the laser up. When I was in NYC, I always felt the laser which is definitely a sign of it working. At this place, not once did I ever feel any pain nor did I see any results. They would never increase the laser strength and they kept telling me their laser was stronger which obviously it wasn't. I definitely wasted my money on the last year and a half due to this location.
Ladies, especially those of you with dark skin, you're better off going to another laser center. The rate might be better here but it's not worth it. -

One tactic ALC uses to gain new customers is to hold raffles for their services at bridal shows and other public events. You then "win" free laser hair removal up to a certain value. However, the ALC does not publish its prices -- not hourly rates or general price ranges -- so there's no way to confirm that you are really being credited with the discount that you supposedly won. I have encountered an awfully high number of people who have won such raffles, which makes me think that they may just be using the supposed prizes as a lure to get people in the door.
When you become a new customer, you must agree to a package of a certain number of hair removal sessions. You then must agree to pay in full and sign a contract for the service. If you can not tolerate the pain of hair removal, you have an adverse reaction, or you have a disagreement with ALC, the contract and upfront payment limit what action you can take.
Laser hair removal has not been proven to be permanent or complete. Also, it is well known that laser hair removal is best suited for those with light skin and dark hair. Physicians offices use actual lasers where the type and strength of radiation is adjusted to best suit your coloring. ALC uses pulsed light that is not as adjustable rather than actual lasers. ALC will however, claim that they can treat anyone and still achieve great results.
When I was a client, ALC tried to convince me that I must use their post-laser lotion after treatment. The lotion is quite expensive and, though it smells lovely, has no active ingredients except for moisturizers.
ALC does not have a physician on site. If you experience burns or another negative reaction, there are only nurses there to respond. I received a burn and, when a nurse tried to treat it with antibiotic ointment, I told her that I was allergic to the active ingredient in the ointment. The nurse challenged my allergy and insisted (wrongly) that I should not have a reaction to the type of antibiotic she was proposing using. A simple Google search confirmed that I would, indeed, have had a cross-reaction to that drug.
After I began my treatments, I started researching laser hair removal online. Ideally, technicians should be highly trained. By the admission of one technician, she was an RN who had taken only a weekend ALC course before working on clients. Yikes!
In my experience it was very challenging to get an appointment at the Rockville location. ALC made a big production about how treatments should be spaced a certain number of weeks apart in order to best target hair in a certain stage of growth. Yet, only once or twice did my appointments fall within that "ideal" window because they could not fit me in around my work schedule. Though ALC has added some Saturday appointments, they are extremely hard to get.
I did get some results from my treatment, but I completely regret giving my money to ALC. After interacting with them, I had such distrust that I never completed all of the sessions I paid for. I decided that my health and safety were worth more than the money I wasted. -

I'm based in Washington, DC and used American Laser in Rockville for laser hair removal (partial brazilian) after researching and receiving a referral from a top NYC plastic surgeon's office. I found the rates and packages to be reasonable relative to others on the market. The staff was friendly and they tried to work with my busy work schedule by scheduling Saturday laser sessions. However, half-way through my year of treatments, they stopped offering Sat. appointments which meant I had to take close to 3 hours off of work to accommodate drive and appointment time. I would not however recommend the Rockville location and possibly any American Laser Center location primarily because I had a different nurse or technician every time I went for my 30 minute treatment. All used different techniques and some were more thorough than others, utilizing the full 30 minutes, others had me out in 15 minutes. I tried to book the same technician every time but they have different hours/days every month. The staff didn't seem concerned at all about any sort of consistency with my treatments. I was left with light patches of hair in my bikini area and though I am fair skinned with dark hair (the ideal for lasering they told me) the lasering they did further down didn't take at all. It was so painful that I didn't go back for any follow-up. It's definitely better than before my treatment but I still shave and tweeze every month. Bottom line, make sure you get the same technician/nurse every month so you'll get the individual attention that you should get after paying upwards of $2000. You'll probably need to go to a smaller, private clinic and NOT a chain like American Laser.
