as i'm on the path to take better care of my skin, i'd thought i'd give microdermabrasions a shot. as an asian, i need to reinforce my reputation of good skin care, so my pursuit to wear sunblock, get facials and try microdermabrasions has been a reoccurring goal of mine. I finally made an appointment and found the facility easily. there was residential parking two blocks down and as i entered the building, my first impression was it was well kept and clean. two ladies greeted me with a happy smile and offered me water. A lady named Kim showed me to my room and explained the procedure to me. she laid me on the bed and put band-aids around my eyes and lightly covered my hair with a net. she warned me of the intensity of the crystal balls and gave instructions to stay away from shaving, tanning or plucking in the uncoming weeks. i may have asked her too many questions during my service but she delivered in her multitasking skills and was informative. she made me feel at ease, comfortable and content about my descision to try microdermabrasions. i would def come back to her.

The local office is great, people are friendly and professional. Unfortunately, at some point you will probably have to deal with the American Laser center office (e.g. for questions about why they added a fee to your invoice), and they are impossible to reach. I went through 15 minutes of being forwarded from one person to another (went through 5 people), before ending up with a computer that could only give me my statement information. Not at all helpful. So while I like the Berkeley office, next time I'd go to some place that has a person you can actually reach about billing questions - perhaps one that really is a local business and isn't part of a major chain.

The only way I could be happier with my experience here is if they could find a way to make the treatment painless. That said, even the pain of laser hair removal is made far more pleasant by the delightful and thorough Kari. I am embarrassed to admit that I look forward to dropping trou and getting poked with a painful laser because it means I get to have a conversation with Kari. She is funny and clever, and knows what she's doing. God bless a woman who can focus on what she's doing and simultaneously distract me from what she's doing.
I am also seeing real results. Tried laser once about five years ago and went back to waxing because the results were barely noticeable. I am almost finished with my six treatments here, and I am seeing vast improvements. One of the benefits of coming here is that the work is guaranteed for two years, so even if there is regrowth after my initial treatments, I can go back for more within two years of purchase.
Sabrina at the front desk is always helpful and friendly, and she has been super great about working with me on price. Make sure to purchase treatments while they are having their buy one get one free special. Such a deal!
Oh, and as to parking -- I am always able to find a free spot on a side street a couple blocks away. I don't mind the short walk. -

I'm not going to tell you that laser hair removal is pleasant. The process can be incredibly painful at times, but I wouldn't feel comfortable going to anyone other than Kari. She does an amazing job, and talking to her seriously makes the time go by so much faster, which I can't even begin to say how thankful I am for. I can't imagine there are many people who can make you feel so comforted and at ease whilst in such pain and agony. Kari not only makes me feel comfortable, but we often laugh. Not to mention I've only been in a few times and I'm already seeing results!

I have been a client at American Laser Center in Berkeley for the last couple of years, for the first year, I wasn't seeing the results I expected and was kind of disappointed. About a year ago, I started having treatments with a new nurse, Kari, and using a new machine, the laze, and my results have been like night and day. Kari is extremely thorough and always makes sure she asks me where the problem areas are and then examines them really closely before she begins treatment so she knows where to concentrate. I definitely see a difference with the new machine, but I feel it is definitely a result of Kari's careful and attentive treatments. While the other nurses are all really nice and do a good job, I feel like Kari has been the best so I always make sure to schedule my appointments with her!

I really wish Emily still worked there but I can settle for Naila. Emily made the place so great to visit. I always looked forward to my appointments just so I could talk to her and the nurses.
As for treatment, they made sure I was comfortable and happy with my results. I bought a package for the ematrix laser but was dissatisfied with the first treatment so they offered to transfer the rest of the money to hair removals and facials and I got a sweet deal! I love the results. Not having to worry about shaving your underarms is the best :) -

Don't waste your money at American Laser. Get local deals through sites like Groupon. I wish they had been available when I purchased my package a few years ago.
That being said, if you have to pick between Berkeley and Walnut Creek...GO TO WALNUT CREEK!!! AVOID BERKELEY. Daniella did a good job on my treatment, but Sabrina (the manager) was severely lacking in customer service skills. In addition, the building is old and musty and the parking is horrible. I never could find the lot where they supposedly validate...that might not seem like a big deal, but if you are looking for parking and you are a few minutes late, they will cancel your appointment.
Despite the Yelp reviews which had initially kept me away from Walnut Creek, I was pleasantly surprised when I switched my account over from Berkeley. I got an appointment at WC the day after I called, the staff was nice, there was no wait, and parking was free. The office is much bigger and newer. -

American Laser Center is known nationally for being a fraudulent and sleazy corporation. There are thousands of complaints filed and lawsuits about their "return policy".
I had no treatments from them after changing my mind and they've been giving me the runaround for over a year now to give me back my money.
They are experts at the runaround and their initial return policy is just long enough to make sure that your credit cart company can't help you any more.
I'm sure some people have an OK experience there, but if any one point is off kilter you WILL GET SCREWED BY THIS PLACE!

I'm updating my review after more experience with this location.
This location recently upgraded their laser for the laser hair removal, and I am having more visible results. The staff seems to be more stable here than at their abysmal (and thankfully closed) SF California St. location, and I have really hit it off with Janet. She's down to earth and really listens when you say "hey, this spot isn't responding as well" or something like that.
I have to say that they are still more pricey than non-corporate laser hair removal places, and I'm a little turned off by the high-price-then-super-discount-you-to-close-the-de al method. I'm having better success now though, so I guess it was worth it. -

In general, this office is okay and my experience with ALC is fine. This review is specific to Daniella.
I've been going to this location for over two years, and have suffered through a few front office managers, but I return because of Daniella. No, a 7:30 a.m. appointment for ouchy laser hair removal isn't my idea of convenient, but that's how much I like this nurse. Don't get me wrong, all the nurses are fine, but she seems to have the best technique. -

I LOVE EMATRIX!!!!!!!! I actually LOVE this office. I am a new patient and I got a great deal! I came in for a consultation and the office was really tidy! Mind you this was not my first consult with AMERICAN LASER CENTERS! I picked this office because I really liked the vibe and the manager gave me a great deal. They offer financing with 0% interest which I could afford. I really liked the staff my nurse is great she has a whole bunch of tattoos! I think her name is Carrie? Sorry I'm HORRIBLE with names! I came in on a late friday night and Sabrina really took her time explaing the ematrix process with me. I was even able to get squezzed in that night for a free Micro? Some dead skin remover! Not sure of the name! Tina did my treatment and she was great even recommended products that Sabrina threw in my package for free. I am now hooked on VIVITE! I love the skin care! I highly recommend checking it out for yourself. I have started my treatment with Carrie and already seeing a difference. I used to use groupons and buy packages from other places that would take your MONEY and go out of BUISNESS! NOT COOL! My skin feels great and I already am referring my friends and family. I have nothing but good things to say about the services and the people at the Berkeley American Laser Center! I first started going to this center in May of 2010, after transferring from a center in Las Vegas. My experience here has been worlds apart from the experience I had at the center in Vegas...the Berkeley center is so much better!
Every time I have an appointment, when I walk in the door I'm greeted BY NAME by Emily (the manager) or one of the other women that work here. They are all very friendly, and make me feel that they actually care about me and what I want out of my treatments. I never feel like I am "just another patient" who they want to push/sell more packages to (which is how I always felt elsewhere). I go here for laser hair removal and micro-dermabrasions (try the diamond tip micro, it's amazing how clean and smooth your face feels afterwards!), and I have been greatly pleased with my results. I started hair removal treatments in November of 2009, and I now go for my monthly maintenance appointments. I've noticed that in between appointments, hardly any of my hair grows back anymore...it's great! -

Laser hair removal is like an army fighting against razor burn and ingrown... I won't elaborate further. The staff is really friendly here and I've never had a problem. I just wish I had boatloads of money to get more services here! If you've never had laser hair removal done, be ready for some pain. But to me it's worthwhile. Definitely go for the package deals, it's way more cost effective.

I originally attended the Castro Valley office for treatment, but they closed down...due to lack of business or staff,. So I started coming to the Berkeley office and I want to say that this has been the worst facility I have ever encountered they have unprofessional staff with the worst customer service ever. Since I have paid for all my services upfront, I put up with them (because they were so close to my work) but I have recently moved to their Walnut Creek office...it has been unbearable to come here.... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CENTER TO ANYONE!!!!!!

This place is quick and to the point -- I do my chin and I'm in and out in 25 minutes. The nurses are very communicative and responsive to any pain (yes, it hurts -- like someone is stapling your face), and they have a 2 year guarantee. I'm half way through my 6 treatments and I see less hair already. They're pricey, but have frequent sales. (I got my package at 50% off)

I would say just two words: Stay away! But that's not a review, just a comment. The high-pressure sneaky sales pitches are absolutely horrible examples of people taking advantage of anybody with insecurities. During these rough times, a little conscious to the humanities predicament would be nice. Don't expect that understanding from ALC. They assess how you look, you level of gullibility and pocket book to price a package rather than sell a consistently priced product. I have had two friends that went the ALC, one at this specific location and they have told all of us the various prices for the same treatment. Why? Why would people still pitch lies in these days and times? I am just disgusted by this corporation and the people that sell their souls to work there. I repeat, stay away - tweeze, shave, pluck, just don't waste your hard-earned money on scam artists!

I have had a fantastic experience here. I've had 2 treatments that has resulted in probably an 80% reduction in hair so far. Yes they are pricey compared to other places, unless you get the 2 for 1 deal, they they are about the same price. The 2 year guarantee really sets them apart from other places.
Their interest free financing plan is awesome. I have had no problems with it and it's better than forking over all the money all at once.
A lot of people say that they are trying to constantly upsell you, but I haven'thad that experience at all. I think the results I'm getting has got me hooked without any further effort on their part.
I've also had appointments with both nurse/technicians on staff and like them both a lot! No complaints here at all! I know their staff recently changed, for the better, I guess!
Maybe I'm just lucky that my body responds so well to the treatments... -

When I had my first appointment for laser hair removal I was Little nervous that it would be painful. But all the staff made me very comfortable. I am very happy with the treatment that I am getting. The place is beautiful and clean and all the staff are sweet. I really love this place and would love to get more services done at this place.

OMG, I love this place! They always have sweet deals going on. I got a buy one get one package for free and pretty much, I'm over there almost once very two weeks. Currently getting the hair removal, photofacial and microdebrasion. Hair removal is the way to go. I'm a pretty busy girl, so not having to maintain those areas any more is a blessing. I already got zapped there three times and its pretty much gone. I still have three left to go, so woo hoo! Right in time for summer. Now my face. I have been a victim of Acne, since I was 10 years old. And I scar easily too, so its been hard. Always covering up my face with foundation, concealer and for once, I just want nice skin. So ever since I started this treatment, my acne has stopped popping out like weeds now, and its only during the time of the month. My uneven skin tone is so much more smoother now and I barely use make up any more. Just tinted SPF and yeah, I actually like looking at myself in the mirror now. Oh, and all the employees here are super cool. Love the managers up front. Shout out to Emily and Ashley! Also the RNs are super cool too. All very personable and super awesome. Will miss coming out to them once I move to SF, but hope to stay in contact with them either way. Glad I took the chance and checked this place out. You should too!

I LOVE HAIR REMOVAL! I hated having to wax or shave, laser removal is the way to go! I was a little nervous at first that it was going to hurt, but it didnt even!! They always have good deals going on too. Ive very happy with my results and cant wait to go back for my next appt.

I had my first appointment for laser hair removal and I was very happy. The staff put me at ease when I was a little nervous. It wasn't painful at all ! The nurses were very educated and fully answered all of my questions. Beautiful and clean facility, with a sweet and cheery staff. I am looking forward to my future appointments at the Berkley location :)
