History

Established in 1980

Shihan Robert Mason began training in the Martial Arts in 1962. He first taught classes in his native England. In 1980 he began teaching in Plantaion. Since then he has graduated over 100 students to the level of Black Belt. Many have been champions. Some have entered the military, some have entered government or police service, while most benefit from the confidence that comes from competence, The business has been at its current location since 2005 and has two large training areas and routinely runs more than 40 classes a week.

Meet the Business Owner: Robert M.

Shihan Robert Mason has been involved with martial arts since 1962. At college he studied Literature and History. Subsequently he graduated with honors in Developmental Psychology and worked in both the clinical and academic fields on a post graduate level. During the 1970's while training in karate in England he joined the Professional Karate Association. Following his move to the United States in 1979, Mr. Mason worked with professional karate athletes in the USA. In 1982, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mr. Mason promoted his first televised event for ESPN, featuring a European team against a US team. Mr. Mason is President the American International Karate Institute and also President of the University Karate Center, a Martial Arts facility he founded in 1980. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the International Sport Karate Association, the Worldwide governing body for Martial Sports and President of ISKA Ltd. HE has been the ISKA World Commissioner since 1988.
