I must say American Horse Trails was one of the best rides I have done so far (along with Makin' Tracks in Ocala and Equus Meadow Inn now in Georgia). The horses are well kept and feed. While the trail was nothing extravagant, we were still able to see a tarpon jump and a hawk fly by. Though, I was more in for a fun ride. And that I did get. It was lots of fun riding with Herb. I really learned a lot in proper balance and control, while still having lots of fun on my horse, DeeDee. I really felt like a rider, and not just another passenger on horseback. While the ride was quite expensive at $141 for 3 hours, it was worth every penny. After adding the trot and canter privileges, extra riding time in the ring, and the wonderful BBQ lunch, the price made it an excellent value. I will definitely come back for another trail ride, and for only 45 dollars for a riding lesson in which I get to ride for a full hour, I would probably take a lesson in the ring as well.

I really enjoyed our ride with American Horse Trails!
I'm a big fan of supporting small businesses like this one, so when we pulled up to a house, it didn't bother me at all - obviously everyone there was horse-lovers and they'd refined the business to make it work in that environment. Really beautiful horses, interesting trail (some traffic, saw an alligator, got to trot, etc).
My only complaint - and I feel bad even putting this out there because the girls were so sweet and fun - but the tour guides we had were 16 & 17 years olds - and gal who was 13 who was "in training."
Although the girls were poised and educated about the horses, and impressive riders themselves, the risky "what ifs" of teenagers being tour guides for strangers - strangers riding horses - just gives me a little pause. -

Make sure you realize that this is run from a private home, so you'll pull into their driveway. We arrived early on a cool November day, and waited by the fireplace for our ride on the trail. There was a young boy and two women getting riding lessons that afternoon. We'd only ridden once before, so we got lessons before we went out. Everyone was very friendly, and we really enjoyed our time with the young woman who escorted us on the trail. The 2 hour ride included time on the residential street, along the river, along a creek, and in a wooded area. The trip was tailored to our experience level, so we had a relaxing time while doing a bit of a trot with the horses. We would definitely go back.

Just came back and loved it! Found it online and did the one hour walk trail. I had never ridden a horse before so the instructor walked along next to me while holding it. Really friendly! They give you water when you are done and you can bring your own carrots and apples to feed the horses. If you are looking for it though, it is a house, just FYI. I will definitely be coming back and doing different packages!

I was a little disappointed with our experience, but the owner Herb contacted me and offered to make things right with another ride. Note that they will try to sell you pictures on a cd for $25. If you're not interested, tell them upfront. Also, if you paid for a walk and trot, make sure the guide knows that and knows that you expect that. Maybe I didn't make that clear up front, but we never got to trot and our ride was cut short on top of that. It is someone's house, not a big stable, so know that going into it. Also know that you will do some riding along a busy road. With that said, Herb and his team are very nice, and he seemed genuinely upset that we did not have as great a time as we expected.
