I had an excellent experience with the both sales and installation.  Micah really knows his products and his competitor's products.  He was able to fully describe what I should do to make my house to look its best with my varied exteriors explaining to me where I could do retrofit and where I should do new construction windows.  He made suggestions along the way and answered my every question.  Personable, friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable, what more could you ask?

I found the installers Ruben & Javier to be excellent craftsman.  It was evident they take pride in their work.  They were on time, fast, efficient and yet took the time to explain why they were doing what they were doing in the installation process when I asked.  And it was always to make the finished result better than what they found when they arrived.    I had huge picture windows on the 2nd floor and they made the install look easy.  They cleaned up thoroughly every day.   Unequivocally, I would recommend them --- and already have to several friends.

We had an excellent experience with American Home Renewal.  They replaced our windows and installed gutters and downspouts.  Everyone we dealt with was helpful and courteous.  Two of  the windows required permits and they handled the process, explaining our part where needed.  The representative came to our house and explained thoroughly the products and options.  The workmen were very capable and did a great job.  They cleaned up all the debris and removed it and also cleaned the windows.  Our new windows look wonderful and we are very happy with them.

We had American Home Renewal Replace 18 Windows and 2 doors in our house. We were very pleased with the service from start to finish. Chris worked with us to answer all our questions and provide references. We did not feel rushed to make a decision and felt confident we were choosing the right company for us. We had clear communication from the office prior to our project starting and knew when to expect the crew to arrive. The crew was amazing. They were on time every day and left our house immaculate everyday before they left. It did not feel like a construction zone which really was the best part. They finished the job on time and in budget. I highly recommend  American Home Renewal and would use them again.

I wish American Home Renewal did other work besides windows and siding because I would hire these guys for all my house projects if I could. We had a rather complicated job--10 windows replaced,  including changing our sliders to casements and one bay, various picture windows, an Oriel Hung and a slider. We had a mix of new construction and retrofit as well. Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this company.

We were lucky that the co-owner Marc was our estimator, who knew his stuff inside and out. The installation crew was very good--friendly, timely, professional, cleaned up, good quality trim work, communicated well, etc. etc. The work was done on schedule and they resolved all issues that came up within a timely manner (a couple of the windows from the factory weren't quite right so they were re-ordered promptly and replaced no questions asked).

And if that's not enough to want to work with them again, payment is not taken until after all the work is done to satisfaction, and the company has a lifetime installation warranty, and window manufacturer has lifetime product warranties, with excellent customer service. Win, win!

I filled out the form on there website to get an estimate to have some windows replaced on 10/26. I received an automated response email stating that someone will contact me today. Well... I didn't receive any response through email or phone.

Next day 10/27 I call and speak to someone. They took down my contact info and said somebody will call me back in a few minutes. Well I dunno how they tell time cause it's 11/8 and I haven't heard from anybody in this company.

This place is a joke. I had my windows replaced about a month ago.. and had to wait over 2 weeks for them to be installed, and never got a call back from the office manager... can't remember her name. Their pamphlet says don't pay until you're satisfied? Sure. The way my window order was handled was unprofessional and not what I call top customer service. Make the decision I should have... choose another company.

Funny how the latest  rating was on the SAME day following my review. Hmmm makes me wonder who is really posting these "great" reviews. Funny how there are no postings on the same day, except for AFTER my 1 star review.

I hired American Home Renewal to replace 10 windows in my house and a sliding glass door.  When I had the city inspector come and sign off on the permit, the window opening was too small to pass the city code on 3 of the windows.  I had to take an extra day off of work to have them modify the locks on the 3 windows.  Now I have a disaster - 3 windows with low end locks and the rest of the windows with self locks.  I asked for a discount of some sort and they have only offered me $500 for the inconvenience.  How insulting is that?  I paid $7,600 for the windows.  I am appauled at their lack of interest on keeping the customer content considering they rely on customer referrals.  My next step is the better business bureau for some sort of resolution.   I would not recommend them to anyone.   THUMBS DOWN for American Home Renewal.   They took my money for shady work.

American Home Renewal was a great company to work with.  They were clean and professional from the estimate to the final install.  Until it came to the misshipment of a pole for an operable skylight.  A little communication would have gone a long way to make me feel like the issue was being handled for me and put me at ease.  Instead I had to make several calls and listen to several excuses as to why this simple piece was so difficult to get.  Where did the great customer service go that I experienced in the beginning?  In the end we did get what we needed but it shouldn't have been so difficult nor should it have taken so long.

I have to mention how much the look of my home changed with this simple replacement of windows.  An up-to-date look and my PG&E bill was at least &100 cheaper per month all winter because of this change.  AWESOME!!

    Wowed Me From The Beginning!!!!!!

I hired American Home Renewal to replace 5 windows in my home.  One of the windows was a build-in which required them to do additional work fitting siding on this outside of my building.  This was my second job with them ( the first one being 3 windows), so I knew they would do a great job.  This time however, I was wowed!

They installed the windows to my expectations and kept the place very clean.  It was everything else they did which impressed me.

While Emmanuel and crew were here they bumped the toilet and it started leaking a lot.  Soon water was covering the floor.  Emmanuel emptied the toilet tank, found the source of the leak, cleaned up the floor and THEN let me know about it.   He asked me where the nearest hardware store was and on his lunch break went and got parts for it and fixed it.

Turns out whoever installed the toilet before didn't do such a great job -- it was bound to happen sooner or later, it just happened while they were here.  Beyond fixing it, they helped me out by FINDING the problem  I would have spent a lot of money on a plumber simply because I wouldn't have known what was wrong or what to do.

I told my boyfriend this and got stunned silence from his end of the phone.  Neither one of us have dealt with contractors that were so great and we've dealt with a lot of contractors.  I certainly never would have expected someone who was installing my windows to also fix my plumbing!  It really says a lot about the quality of the people that American Home Renewal hires.

This is, of course, above and beyond what I have come to expect from their already high quality of service.  They were professional - on time, clean, friendly and very communicative.  How many times have you dealt with a contractor that shows up several hours late and doesn't call???  Not only did they call and give time estimates for arriving, (usually by 9am) but when they left on Day 1 they recapped what still needed to be done, talked to me about the molding they were bringing in, etc.

During the walk through at the end of Day 2 I got an additional surprise.  The wall with the build in was covered by beadboard.  When they performed the build in of the window they just re-installed all the beadboard instead of patching it.  Maybe they just did it because it was easier, but in any case, it looks great!  Now I just have to get my painting contractor (me) to paint it.

    Other great things about AHR:
    1. *Very* competitive pricing!
    2. Friendly, knowledgeable and patient estimators.
    3. Superior communication.  After any change in workorders or projects dates they send you written (email) documentation almost immediately.

They installed several windows and two patio doors on our home.  The salesperson was very nice and on time, I think he was the owner of the company.  They gave me a good quote that was reasonable priced.  The quality of the windows were great, but it was a major brand that I had researched.

The issue came with the installers.  First day the installer showed up two hours late.  He claimed that the windows were not ready and he had to pick it up and load it on his truck.  Then he came and worked for about four hours and said, "Oh, we have to go to San Jose, so I need to get out of here."  Left it for the next day.  Next day he worked about half-day and said he had to go.  I finally began to 'express myself' and he worked a few more hours.  Told me that the job was bigger than quoted, so needed one more day.  Yes, I took another day off from work to let this guy work on his schedule.

Then comes the real issue;  The installer did a bad job installing the windows.  The caulking was sloppy, he left garbage, 'little white plastic shavings' all over the house and garage, and two of the windows were installed wrong.

I had to take more time off from work to have the window company come out and tell me they installed it wrong and have a AHR installer come out to do the job right.

I'm all for using local businesses and helping business owners succeed, but this was basically inexcusable.  Oh, the owner or sales person who originally told me what a great company they were, ah..he never called once to apologize for all the time I wasted.  I only dealt with the installer's foreman, who actually was a really nice guy that tried to take care of everything.

We replaced 15 windows in our home, and they did a great job. We received bids from three other companies, and while AHR didn't give us the lowest price, we were happy we went with them. The installers were super nice, polite, on time, and finished when they said they would. I highly recommend!

UPDATE: After a few months one of the latches fell off of our front window and AHR turned it over to the manufacturer. It took about a week before we got a call back, and the rep had a hard time getting the window back in and asked me if the installers had tested the windows before leaving. They didn't. I guess this window wasn't installed properly. I still would recommend but they lost one star b/c of the length of time I had no lock on my front window.

Update 4/20/08: Only after living with the door awhile we have come to realize that the weather stripping falls too short on either side by about half an an inch - enough to let the wind blow right in (along with the dust and dirt which have left telltale parallel streaks). Other reasons for the star downgrade is the fact the door handle surface, although rarely used, is already showing pitting and erosion, a sadly disappointing Schlage product. Lastly contacts regarding quotes for other work have gone unanswered.  I still think that by and large the quality of the installs is good, better then some other options, but I am not as thrilled in the long term. 3 1/2 stars
    ---------------------------------------

Don't knock getting a new door. Well, don't knock it 'til you try it, then knock on it.

You'd think, a door's a door a door, but no, that slab that fills the hole in your house can make a big difference in quality of life.  Seriously, you may think that more then my door became unhinged, but I found out that the simple replacement of my hollow mid-crapulent entry door made the house much quieter, more secure, warmer and even brighter since it has a bit of glass in it (you'd be amazed how much a little pane lightens up the place).

As for American Home Renewal, the company that replaced my door, well they truly did a fantastic job.  I am the queen of picky when it comes to fit and finish, and I can honestly say that the installation was meticulous and everything was handled very professionally.  There was a defect in the hardware that I noticed after the installation and they even took care of that with grace and ease, wonderful customer service.

I have more then my fair share of depressingly bad home contractor experiences, but these guys were really top notch and I am happy to endorse them in the hopes it will help others avoid the pitfalls of dealing with lesser companies.  (Believe me, I wish I had known of them before I had my windows done by another company that took short cuts... sigh.)  The icing on the cake is that they do not require any payment up front, payment is only due upon completion --- can you believe they put customer "satisfaction first"! What an idea huh?

So if you need a door, windows, siding or gutters I'd definitely give them a call. They may not be the cheapest around, but they are fully licensed and insured, use top quality materials, and have proven skills & don't subcontract out, which is more then you can say for a lot of other places; trust me, it doesn't pay to cheap out on some things, you just get other headaches.

PS: Always check their specials page before you get an estimate ;) http://renewal.com/off...

These guys are first rate. They did my windows for less than Sears charged 20 years ago and they did a way better job.

Very professional and attentive to all my concerns from start to end.

We shopped around and they beat everyone else by 10-20%.

This was an unexpectedly pleasant experience.  Chris and Michael were wonderful to deal with--and very responsive to my needs and preferences.  Andrew was the "dream" installer--a true craftsman (who covered every part of the rooms except where he was actually working, then cleaned up completely afterward)--and the nicest guy you could ever hope to meet.  The previous window installation had been very poorly done, which made the job longer and much more difficult, but he took it all in stride.  When I can replace the rest of my windows, I will be back!

We hired American Home Renewal to replace all of the siding on our house.  This is the contractor recommended by Hardie Plank.  They did the exterior demolition and finished the job in six work days.  Fast and efficient.  Back in '85, the tract home contractor left off 35 sheets of plywood and didn't bother to insulate most of the second floor.  Bastards.  Now with the new siding, the interior temperature is stable and the outside noise is barely audible.  Nataly the project coordinator gets a thumbs up.

We recently repaired a very old set of oversized sliding patio doors in our family room.  This was something that we had been putting off for some time due to the expected expense.

We called American Home Renewal and met with Chris and he helped us select vinyl doors that fit our room and budget.  When the actual install occurred, the AHR team completed the job in 1.5 days, without a speck of dust (which is impressive since they completely built out the new frames)

The new doors looks great and the overall experience was fantastic.  This company will certainly have our future business.

Our windows and siding look amazing.  We are very happy with the work, the products used, and the warranties.  Our story: We met one of the owners, Marc, when he bid another job for us.  Even though he didn't go with him at the time, we knew that we would need his services for another project soon.  Months later, we found significant termite and water damage on the backside of the house.  We called Marc and this time, we had both owners --Marc and Chris--out to the house.  They gave us exceptional serivce and  we knew immediately that they would do the work.  The hard part of the entire process was the design piece--the type of windows, the color of siding, etc.  But it is a no brainer to work with these guys and their crews.  They are extremely knowledgeable, professional, punctual, clean and responsive.   I always knew when they were coming and always had an update as to what happened that day. ALSO they were also very patient with another contractor who was a medler.  But their crews are polite and made sure to keep me in the loop if lots of work was going on at once.  MOST IMPORTANTLY: they are always committed to making you happy.  They will make it right and you will love it.

I just had double pane windows installed in my apartment.  All the work was done expertly, and efficiently .  The two men who worked on replacing all the windows, as well as two doors  in our two-family dwelling were exceptional.  Problems associated with non-standard sizes were quickly fixed by one of the team.  He is a craftsman, and great problem solver.  You can't replace 18 windows and not make a lot of noise, and end up with a lot of rubbish.  Both gentlemen worked hard, and always took care to clean thoroughly before they left for the day.  Clearly, both of the installers take pride in their work.  I've already noticed the decrease in noise from the street traffic, and appreciate the ease with which I can open and close my windows.  Thank you!

I wanted to post an update about this company.

For that I need to revise my rating and increase my original one star to at least a 3.  It is true that there were some issues that I had to deal with, but at the same time it is also true that once confronted with that they promptly came over and fixed the problem.  Overall that happened in 2 separate occasions.  After having had numerous experiences with all sort of contractors, that is a pretty positive thing!

After researching windows and front entry doors and getting multiple quotes until it seemed we knew more about the products than some of the companies we dealt with, we finally decided to go with AHR.   We have not regretted that decision one bit and continue to be 100% satisfied.  We had all our windows (over 12), three big sliders, front entry and huge glass window above the entry replaced.  Everything was done on time and exactly as advertised.   We had two minor warranty issues that were both promptly addressed with no hassle.  One was a very minute defect (bubble) in one of the windows that my wife saw, though I probably would never have noticed.  AHR replaced the entire unit.  The second was a seal failure in our front entry which occurred about ten months after installation.  AHR inspected and replaced the window piece, again with no hassle.  Excellent customer support and post-sales service!

We have referred several others to AHR since and all have been happy as well with the product and work.

I had the same negative experience as one of the other reviewers.

The crew showed up late, left early and the second day only one guy showed up while my wife and I gave up going to work for three days (we split the time between us) they also took Saturday and the following Tuesday to finish.

This install did not go well at all and I have been very unimpressed with how the company dealt with the situation.  I was very disappointed as the claim of not being the cheapest but the best has certainly not been the case.  The overall quality of the installs is almost frightening.

Please don't fall for their claim to be quality over price, they were the highest quote I had and I wish I had gone with someone else!

AHR redid all the windows (replacement) and two sliders plus a huge picture window (new construction) in our recently purchased 1950's home. The sales person was mindful that we were on a budget due to other major renovations we were doing and offered us a very competitive bid for quality Milgard windows and sliders. Several of our windows were unconventional size and shape and he gave us great advice on the type of openings and styles for us to consider.

The installers completed the job ahead of schedule, even in rainy weather. They were very professional, neat and most importantly, asked questions before they installed the windows so there were no surprises. They did a final walk through and opened/closed each window, had us inspect the caulking which was neat and tidy. They even took time to explain how best to care for and clean the screens and windows.

We are very pleased with our beautiful windows and highly recommend them.

I had some work done on the exterior of my house (electrical panel upgrade, AC unit install) which required tearing off a section of vinyl siding on the back of our house.  We just bought the house, and have no idea who installed the siding, but judging by color, I would guess it was installed in the late '70s (it is a shade of green that was popular in that decade).  I did some research on vinyl siding installers and American Home Renewal seemed to be a pretty good company.  So I called them, and they said they don't normally do small repair jobs.  But the owner (Chris) said he would try to find matching siding and have someone come out an do the job anyway.  I sent him a sample of the siding, and he tried to find a match, but couldn't find an exact match.  I guess they don't make hideous colors from the '70s anymore (The color of the house was one of the downsides when I bought the house)  He came up with something close, warning me that the color wasn't a perfect match.  I agreed to go ahead (since it is in the back corner of our house), and it was installed very nicely.  I can paint it to get if I want a perfect color match.

The installation was done very professionally, and the result looks good (except for the color which I knew in advance wouldn't be perfect).  Chris was very easy to work with, and was even able to do the installation while I was on vacation.  I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone considering vinyl siding.

We did not hire American Home Renewal for a few reasons, instead hiring LEMA Construction to do our home remodel.  I see from most of the reviews for AHR, they do good window work.  But when it comes to other work, not so much.  We looked at several of the American Home Renewal homes that they gave us as demonstrations of their best work.  None of the homes looked as good as LEMA Construction.  They also took way too long to get us an estimate and when we finally did receive it, there were things that they missed that LEMA caught.  I would highly recommend LEMA Construction, and shy away from American Home Renewal.

This being my only large contracted job, I don't have much to compare them to, but I was satisfied. We had all new windows installed around a year ago. My house is old and settled, so they had their work cut out for them. The salesperson was not great and made a few errors, but AHR was quick to correct them and actually, one of the owners, Marc, went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied in the end. The windows look and work great. The crew assigned to our house was extremely professional and pleasant and actually cleaned up more than I expected.

After receiving numerous quotes from window contractors some way too high and some way too low (that we had to wonder if they even had a contractor's license or they were working the system). We decided to go with AHR. What impressed us most was at the in home estimate they presented us with this book that had there Workers Compensation and Liability Insurance certificate, BBB certificate, Diamond Certified certificate as well as many other accolades this company has received.  To say the least this company is legit and they proved it from start to finish! The customer service we received from them was phenomenal.  The installers were on time everyday and did an awesome job installing the 12 windows for us, and we were super appreciative to the fact they were careful that we had a new puppy and made sure at the end of each work day they really cleaned the outside meticulously. I would refer them over and over again.

Have used AHR twice in the last 8 years for windows and doors. Both times quote was very reasonable, products great and installation excellent (on time, good quality etc). Have had one small issue not covered under warranty but they are taking care of it anyway. AHR is a very professional company with helpful friendly people and they take care of their customers. I would definitely use them again.

I recently moved into a new home and have continually experienced abysmal  "customer service" from a variety of professional services related to my new home (I had to sue my mover to get a refund for my overpayment!), I was feeling pretty disheartened that I could find a window contractor I could trust. A friend recommended AHR and I'm so glad they did. It didn't start out well, considering they stood me up for my consultation. I called their office and they were so surprised they actually seemed concerned for the welfare of the guy coming. They immediately called me back with a good explanation and rescheduled me for the next day, even though it was Saturday. I already had two other quotes. One from Home Depot for around $14k for 11 windows and a sliding door. Another from a Portuguese glass company my in laws used for $7k. We were budget minded, but I was actually wary of a price that low. So AHR examined the other products to help me compare and contrast since not everything was apples and apples. In the end, we got a better product than the previous bids for around $10k. We are extremely impressed with the service, time to completion, professionalism, communication regarding scheduling, and especially their flexibility to coordinate their noisy  work around my toddler's nap! Ruben handled the installation and was fantastic. Since they are licensed contractors, I felt more confident that once they ripped out my old patio door they could fix whatever mysteries might lay beneath, but thankfully there weren't any. You want to hear about customer service? While working in my front yard, the child next door told me that a section of fencing between our yards had broken. Ruben overheard this, whipped out a drill, and repaired my fence in about 10 minutes, even reinforcing a few other weak spots. Anyway, I love these guys and will recommend them to anyone who will listen. Maybe I am just a sucker for good service since it's so hard to come by these days. Whatever, I'm very happy with my windows and my experience with them.

this company was absolutely terrific.  the installers installed 8 windows and one slider door - milgard upgraded products. the quote was the middle of three. i had heard horror stories about the mess that can be left behind after window installers leave for the day - but i was so pleased and impressed when they cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day (2-1/2 days) i couldn't tell, when i got home from work that they had even been there!. the crew was all related to each other and really cool guys.  they all spoke english (a real plus). job was finished on time.  have not had ANY issues at all after 4 months.  mike, the service manager, has always been available to talk to.

unbelievable service and speed. excellent quality of work. transformed our little green vinyl rancher in to a lovely home with new siding and soffets and did all the dry rot repair with great skill and at a very reasonable price. wish i'd had them do the windows years ago but hadn't heard the buzz about AHR. will pass it on: use these guys, they are great!
