Review from Matthew L.
Clayton, NC
I was really trying to patronize this restaurant because it's easy to get to from my house and I always forget about it but I think I've changed my mind.
I've had probably 10 good gyros from there. I decided to try the subs. An hour after eating the second sub, hours before an important job interview, I started having pains in my stomach. To me, it was food poisoning. After a lot of burping it died down, luckily.
After this, I probably won't eat there again. I also noticed that the last two times I've been in there the gyro meat is sitting unrefrigerated on the gyro cooker waiting to be warmed up. -
Review from Becky F.

I only went once but I may try it again. Service was kinodf wierd for me. There were very few other folks there and I was the only person waiting at the counter, so when what looked like my sandwich was put on the counter in front of me I assumed it was mine, but the girl looked at me like I was crazy and said it wasn't. I tried to joke and laugh about it but she was apparently having a really bad day. She went in the back and a couple more orders came up before mine which surprised me. It took a lot longer than I expected, to wait for a sandwich. I just didn't understand the process there, like where to wait and how to know when it was ready. The sandwich was good as I recall. Oh and after my sandwich came I had to wait to pay for it - I wished the guy would have asked me to pay while I was waiting around for it. Again, I just didn't "get" the process. Maybe next time I'll do better.
Specialties
A distinct New York flavor is evident on their menu, from the gyros to New York subs and mouthwatering cheesecakes. They also offer pastrami; cold and hot subs, including their famous Philly steak or chicken; hot entrees that are made fresh from scratch and include lasagna, a gyro platter and spaghetti and meatballs; a low carb menu selection made up of seven different salads; burgers and a children's menu. To top off the meal, American Hero offers tempting desserts like baklava, cheesecake and carrot cake.
