Here's how it works: wait wait wait wait wait wait wait... then devour uniquely amazing wood-fired flatbreads!

Patience is a virtue... and an absolute necessity to eat here during any typical human's feeding hours. They decline reservations, and are consistently packed elbow-to-elbow with flatbread-craving Vermontians. Vermontinites? Vermontines? Vermin? bah...

I was only in Burlington for 22 hours on a crazy fast-paced air tour around the US... but within the first two hours of strolling around downtown three random strangers had already insisted that I try one of these legendary flatbreads.

I arrived at 5:15, hung out across the street for a stomach-growling ~two hours, then finally got seated at 7:10.

I'm not going to complain... there's a reason it's so ridiculously popular. Their "Punctuated Equilibrium" might be one of the most delicious flatbreads to ever grace my mouth: Kalamata olives, oven-roasted red peppers, Vermont goat cheese, rosemary, onions, and.. well, some form of dark flatbread magic which causes you to crave it for months.

Unquestionably worth the wait.... but it would still be nice if they accepted reservations.

If you don't end up waiting 30 minutes for a table - then Flatbread will leave nothing but a delicious taste in your mouth.

First off, start with the Dancing Heart and a side of marinara. Garlic, Asiago cheese, and SESAME SEEDS. Yes, SESAME SEEDS on your garlic cheese pizza. Dip it in hearty marinara and watch the love flow.

Then I'd say (btw, order a few beers, they offer some great brews), get the Vermont Sausage pizza. The Sausage is loaded (and covered with mushrooms) a tasty spiced pork sausage, a dash of sun dried tomato, and a plethora of fantastic caramelized onions. Seriously, my buddy and I ate an entire large pizza, AND the dancing heart without breaking a sweat (a testament to the deliciousness of the pizza - believe me, we shouldn't have eaten a large pizza).

So yeah, the wait can be long, the tables can be in awkward positions (especially the one in the corner near the front of the restaurant), and the service can be hit or miss - but this pizza is what every pizza place should strive to be - fancy, but DELICIOUS. and LEGIT.

Flatbread doesn't take reservations.  Granted, you can put your party's name down on the list and roam around dtown Burlington, but good luck.

Go on a weekend night, and you will inevitably:
- endure a loooong wait.  Our party waited over 2 hours for a table.
- end up standing in the narrow doorway or get crammed up by the bar...
- ... and subsequently get bumped many times by many strangers and/or have to move out of the way of an annoyed waiter carrying a hot pizza or full glasses of beer.
- get really warm standing indoors.
- strain your ears trying to converse with your dining companions.  It is lively and bustling here.
- enjoy your pizza when it arrives.  Thumbs up on the Revolution and sun dried tomato and mushroom ones!

So is it worth it?  If you're willing to wait it out and are set on pizza.

This is the best pizza (Flatbread) your ever going to eat period. 100% Organic and straight from the fire.My bartender gave me the worst service ever I tipped her well anyway this was just a one time occurrence.
I often buy it from the grocer as well and serve the three cheese as an appetizer with wine before dinner its a hit!

Not up to all they hype people put on this place...

Flatbreads were good but worth the 3 hr wait for a table.  When we did finally get a table we were right up against the next.  They couldn't get out without knocking into our table.

If you do wish to try and wait it out, I suggest the sun dried tomato and mushroom

Best craft brew in town, their beer draws on a wide range of styles from simple lagers (helles, kolch, etc.) to the big, complex ales (old ales, double/tripels).

The breads are great for when you just need something to go with the beer (dancing heart is a simple, asiago/sesame seed/olive oil affair, like an oily, crispy cracker), or if you are hungry (the specials are like a full meal on top of a pizza crust).

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the crowd is better than the snooty Church St. goers/annoying college kids scene that can be found elsewhere in town.

The secret is getting their bloody marys on the weekends.  Only available for an hour or so from when they open at 11.  Amazing.

I get excited by goat cheese.

REAAALLY excited.

So when I saw that the evolution salad and the pizza that we ordered both have goat cheese on them, I was uber excited!  This could be my special happy goat cheese day!  We were visiting Vermont, so what's more awesome than trying Vermont's own goat cheese?

However, American Flatbread is just not the place to try it.

There was a mere sprinkling of goat cheese on the salad, and I think they over hyped the salad by including every single item for the salad in the description.  Seaweed? Yeah, only maybe 3 thin strips that we can barely find.  Where's the seaweed?! I thought I saw it in the description!

As for the pizza itself, it was very over-cheesed and heavy.  Two people couldn't finish a medium-small pizza!  OH, that is bad!  What's worst is that I couldn't taste any of the goat cheese due to the heavy cheesing of mozzarella.

Ah well..

This is another place I never miss when visiting VT.  Flatbread's food is frickin fantastic.  Always get the salad, because it is delicious, and it starts you off with something nice and light before you devour some amazing pizza...sorry, flatbread.

I pretty much always get the revolution, with super thinly sliced mushrooms and carmelized onions.  But for real, you can't go wrong.  This place also has an amazing beer selection. I've recently come to fall in love with Flemish Ales/Belgain Sour beer.  It's pretty rare that places will have them (even ones with a solid beer selection).  I went up to the crowded bar expecting the worst, but hoping for the best, and they indeed had one, on tap no less!  It was SO good.

If you live in Vermont, or a nearby state or nearby Canadian province, or are visiting anywhere nearby, go there.

P.S.  This place is a gold mine and woul ddo well anywhere.  Come to Chicago please.

For some reason this Flatbreads is not like the other Flatbreads, it's much much better!

Skip the regular pizzas - always order one of their specials, that's what makes this place so good. The chef has a great palate for what goes well together and his or her food combinations are always crazy good and what's local and in season. I've discovered some culinary firsts (for me) at this place, like bee pollen and roasted spiral beets. My boyfriend likes their beers on tap. One of their stouts tastes like chocolate stout, mmm mmm. Me I always make room for their warm gingerbread cake with pumpkin ice cream. And if you don't normally like salad? You'll like this salad. Don't freak, if you didn't know it was seaweed sprinkled on top you wouldn't know the difference.

I would give Flatbread 10 stars if I could.  We moved away from Burlington 18 months ago and this is the place we miss most.  Everything is perfect - the cozy atmosphere (fire oven and exposed brick are perfect for keeping you warm on cold Vermont nights), the delicious beer brewed on site, and of course, the AMAZING pizza.  Every single one I ever tried (probably all of them, along with many specials) was awesome.  I think the Revolution was our favorite but it would be hard to choose.  I can't wait to go back there.  Yes, you will have to wait - even on a weekday evening, it is hard to even squeeze in at the bar.  But it is more than worth it.

If you're craving for pizza tonight, skip all other usual establishments and go to American Flatbread.  Their flavors are unique and feature local and/or organic ingredients.  Ask about the specials too as they are created each week. Maple sausage on pizza anyone? The garnishes are so characteristic of this Green Mountain State.  If you can't decide on a particular flavor, order a whole pizza with half of one and half of the other.

The wait time can be ridiculous as it is almost always packed especially during weekends and nights when they are hosting an event.  They give out a pizza slice beeper that lights up and vibrates when a table becomes available for your party.  At least that kept our little ones occupied; they waited wide-eyed for it to do its thing.  During the winter, we check beforehand if there's a big chance we would get seated right away.  If not, we shrug and go to our second choice, which is whatever will get us in instantly.  We've stood out in the cold once when we tried it for the first time. We will not do it again.

But once you're seated, they take care of you and make sure you get what you want.  The hearth is in full view.  You can see and almost feel the heat of the flames cook those flatbreads being prepared right on the spot. If watching your food getting cooked just makes you salivate more, pick up a board game by the receptionist to divert your attention away from that hunger pang.  Chances are, the food will arrive before you connect four!

The servers we've had in the past were great and they do know the beers that they serve. And that's another thing worth going here for---they have an amazing beer list!  They serve both local and international brews.

And just like the original definition of a pub, this is a place where people of all ages meet, talk, eat, drink and be merry.

Someone really needs to open one of these in Dallas! It is AMAZING! American Flatbread is a fabulous pizza place that serves local beer and wonderful pizza with seasonal, local, and organic ingredients. Sugar Bear and I enjoyed this restaurant so much that we dined here twice during our week in Vermont!

We began both meals with the Evolution Salad --greens, goat cheese (optional add on), carrots, seaweed, with raspberry vinaigrette. Delish!

Pizza from visit #1: DuClos and Thompson Pork Bolognese, baby spinach, roasted red onions, roasted shitake mushrooms, and Shelburne Farms 1 year cheddar. Sugar Bear substituted the pork for organic tomato sauce with nitrite free locally produced pepperoni. Oh my, it was totally worth the 45 minute wait to get a seat! YUM!

Pizza from visit #2: Ledge End Farm Herb roasted venison, oven roasted asparagus, baby spinach, raspberry gastrique, and Vermont ayr cheese. DAMN! Another rocking meal!

American Flatbread reminded me of places in Austin. I really hope they consider opening some transplants of this place here in Texas!

It's a good thing I don't live in Burlington, because I might single-handedly keep this place in business.  On the other hand, plenty of other Vermonters will keep this place in business - it's always busy!  Family-friendly, cozy atmosphere.  It's nice to sit by the wood fired oven if you're there on a cold winter day.  Amazing menu items - the specials, on the other hand, are often reserved for the truly adventurous.

In addition to things like local beer (which was very cheap) and great service, the food is amazing.  You can get individual pizzas, or they will just do a large pizza half/half with the two types you want to save money.  (The waitress suggested this!)

The food is SO fresh and tasty, and we sat about 20 feet from the Open Hearth pizza oven where they were making our food.  Because this was such a popular place, it was pretty busy, but we found a great spot at the bar, and only waited about 15 minutes for our table.  (They buzzed a pager so we weren't wondering)

I would love to go with 8 or 10 people and get a few different pizzas!  Choosing is the hardest part.

Unique flavors. Decidedly fresh. Great selection. Surprisingly simple. Perfect atmosphere.  Community minded. Hands down, one of the best pizza joints I've ever eaten at and I've tried them all -- dives and small fancy places in New York City, the Chicago Gino's East thing, and of course have my favorite spots here in Baltimore. If you're in the mood for flatbread pizza, this place doesn't disappoint. I had no wait on a Thursday afternoon found the medium size to be plenty for two people.

Good food helps! Fitting motto, incredibly warm and genuine place. And not just due to the open hearth sending a cone of heat across the dining room! Must be great in winter. I was up from NYC for two days in Aug and this was my favorite meal in town. In addition to their flatbreads, they also have a great array of their own microbrews on tap. Can try them all with the convenient and reasonably priced half-pint size. Beer works even better on an empty stomach...who needs appetizers! As for the pizza, they are certainly not overrated by any means. The ingredients are mostly local and organic, and they list them on a board and map so you can really see where your food is coming from, as you wait earnestly in the bar area to be given a seat to pizza nirvana on the shore of Champlain.

SOOOOO Delish! this place is TREMAZING. the pizza is dynamite, the atmosphere wonderful, and the variety of menu options (beers, ciders, pizzas, etc) are almost overwhelming...no matter what you order you'll be happy, no doubt. The one thing that is tricky is the wait...its such a popular place that the crowd swarms, so you either have to arrive early (they don't take reservations) or expect to sidle up to the bar & try some brews while you wait.

The menu had an extra special awesome touch with their "Stimulus Plan for the Soul"...(see picture). I can't wait to come back here next trip! FABULOUS!

It might be freezing out, but you're going to want to dress in layers if you're coming to dine here from out in the cold.  That wood fired oven is HOT.
Service was friendly, there is a large selection of beers, some brewed by AF themselves.  The flatbreads are awesome as well, but a heads up if you don't like onions, I think every single one has them.  Don't let that deter you - our waitress said we could change, mix, or match to our heart's content, and they do half and half orders on each pizza.
Yum!

Easily the best pizza downtown.

Choose from pizzas topped with local and organic veggies and other ingredients and it's all prepared perfectly.

The only downside is the wait and limited selection of desserts. I wish they offered garlic bread too.

Went here a few days ago with a group of friends celebrating a birthday, and, uh, whoa. My stars (all five of them). This is some tasty, tasty pizza.

We got there right at 6:30 or so and hit an hour+ wait, mostly due to the size of our party. It was completely worth it.

While we waited, I tried a few of the house-brewed beers, which were all terrific. I tried the London Calling, the Boognish Brown, the Albee Bock, and the Extra Stout, before settling on the stout for the rest of the night. Good brews all around.

The only real problem with the wait was having to watch dozens of bubbly, crispy, charred, perfectly fired pies go flying by to eager tables while we waited our turn. Torturous.

We did get seated, and finally we got our pizzas. Man, oh, man. I personally ordered a half Pepperoni and Peppers, and a half New Vermont Sausage. The Pepp/Pepp half was good, probably one of the best pepperoni pizzas I've had, but in the end, it was just a really good pepperoni pizza - nothing earth-shattering.

But the New Vermont Sausage? Heavens. This is one of their signature pies, with house-made sausage of locally sourced organic pork, caramelized onions, and mushrooms. Astonishing. Divine. Face-mashingly good. Thank God I don't live in Burlington, because this pizza would be the death of me.

An overall phenomenal experience. This place will be on my agenda any time I'm in town from now on.

We ordered two salads here and the punctuated equilibrium pizza to bring with us down to the water to watch the Fourth of July fireworks.  The salad was nothing special and particularly small, especially for $ 7.75 each (with goat cheese).  The pizza was delicious and I love that it is cut up into strips.  I really loved the pizza and couldn't stop eating it!  Also I hear the wait to eat here can be outrageously long so I highly recommend calling in a to-go order.  When the weather is nice there's nothing better than sitting by the lake and enjoying this meal.

This was the first place we were taken during our visit to Burlington.  I feel like it's the "go-to" place to impress out of town friends.  It certainly didn't disappoint.

I feel like we arrived during the peak dinner rush, which meant a long wait in the bar area up front.  No worries though, they make some really excellent beers here too.  We enjoyed the Bock Obama as we were feeling the post-election night love in the air.  Very good marks.  Unfortunately, our wait was almost 45 minutes for a table of 4 (on a Tuesday night!).

The food is pretty straight-forward.  Nothing too unexpected. The salads were fresh, tasty, and locally sourced - which seems to be a trend in Vermont, so positive marks for that.  The pizzas/flatbreads were also interesting.  We split the New Vermont Sausage (Maple-Fennel pork sausage, sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions and mushroom) and Sundried Tomato and Mushroom pizza (which is exactly how it sounds).  Definitely filling.  This is a great spot for a first date or a night out with friends.  I can see why it's the go to spot in downtown Burlington.

Probably the best pizza I've ever eaten.

You'll forgive the hour-plus wait and the cavernous dining room which seems to have been renovated with premium noise-amplification in mind.  I had the "Dancing Heart Bread."  Alternately razor-thin and bubbly flatbread topped with garlic oil, sesame seeds, salt and pepper, and a thin layer of locally produced asiago and grana padano cheeses from nearby Blythedale Farm.  I had nitrate-free pepperoni on top and I'm glad I did.  It was accompanied by a locally made draft root beer called Rookie's.  Very liquorice-y and complex with not too much bite.

The atmosphere is very Vermont; lots of beards and fleece and local, sustainable, organic people.  And while this isn't a pizza joint, it lacks pretension nonetheless.  The roaring wood-fire oven lends a certain pleasant vibe to the whole place and you are probably dead inside if you don't leave feeling quite satisfied.

$30 including tax and tip for three people!  Add a few more dollars if you'd like to sample any of the plethora of microbrews; don't worry about drinking as you've probably got a long, cold walk back to your car.

MMmmMMmm, tasty pizza!  Great selection of locally grown toppings, authentic brick oven, organic sodas(i.e. citrus hibiscus) and classic checkered red and white table cloths.  All of which makes for a great Vermont eatery!

If you are a resident of VT or just passing through, DO NOT miss American flat bread!  Just be sure you order enough, as the pizza's are a little small and is only enough for 2 people.

While trying to lead some fellow conference-goers to American Flatbread, I got a little turned around. I decided to ask a guy who looked like a local (huge headphones, angsty book in hand) if he knew where St. Paul street was. He looked at me quizzically, then explained he hadn't lived in Burlington long, so he wasn't sure. I then asked him if he knew where American Flatbread was. His bloodshot eyes perked up (in relative terms at least) and he nearly screamed: "hell yes I know where that is!" and kindly gave me directions (by the way, St. Paul runs parallel to the pedestrian-only Church Street). I then asked my new high-as-a-kite friend if he thought the place was any good.

His response?

"That place is f***ing AWESOME!" (apparently Yelp censors now)

Well said, stoner boy, well said.

The flatbreads were tasty: I'd recommend the Punctuated Equilibrium. Beers were solid as were the local ingredients, and I appreciated the architecture of the place. Service was a bit slow and really poorly coiffed: I don't think I've ever seen so many bad haircuts on a group of people in my life.

I've yet to find a pizza I like better than the pizza at American Flatbread.  My favorite is the Punctuated Equilibrium with kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, red onions cheeses and herbs! The beer selection is great, be sure to give their house brews a try.

The only reason I don't go there more often is the wait can be long, and they don't take reservations. (Outdoor seating is seasonal, so there's a bit more seating in the summer.) If you're visiting the Burlington area for the weekend and don't want to wait for a table on a Friday or Saturday night, try lunchtime instead. The menu is the same and there's rarely a wait.

This place is great! We ordered 2 large pizzas (flatbreads), each with 1/2 a different topping on it. The pizzas were delicious, the crust just right and not too chewy or crispy. We also ordered a salad with goat cheese which was delicious. My husband ordered a beer which they brew there and he was it was one of the best beers he's tasted.

If you sit inside you can see them put the pizzas into the giant brick oven and it's nicely air conditioned in the summer. The outside patio allows dogs. The place is very family friendly, great for bringing kids.

Great place, great service, great food. Highly recommended.

We had a party of 8 on a Sunday, and the wait was 45 minutes (there were 2 other parties of 7 ahead of us). They gave us a pizza shaped monitor which would buzz when we're up. Luckily, there's a bar-only section where we chilled (literally - it was COLD inside) with their delicious house brews among many other beer and rootbeer selections. I had their IPA and I enjoyed about half a glass until I got a bit tipsy from not having enough food in my belly.

They were rather prompt and just about 45 min in, I inquired our position and in fact we were next! The host told me to line the group up and pointed to the table we were to sit at. At this point we were all FREEZING and I asked if we can sit at another table next to the brick oven. The guy hesitated because it was for another group ahead of us who hasn't arrived yet. My bf's mom sweet talked him into letting us have that table. Go mom!

I had the honor of sitting right next to the oven where this guy was shoveling flatbread, cookies, apple pies in this large oven - he said he has never lost one. He was a friendly guy and didn't mine me asking questions. I also loved watching the bread bubble in the fire. Next to the oven is the flatbread assembling station with one person rolling out the dough and the other being the decorator.

The menu is simple, and I love how everything was organic and/or local. My favorite is the punctuated equilibrium which has red peppers, goat cheese, and olives - an awesome combination. I didn't like the new vermont sausage which wasn't flavorful except for fennel. However bf's dad loved it. The all around hit was the pepperoni and peppers. The dancing heart bread was just cheese which is simple (but still good) and bf's mom loved that. Overall you can find at least one flatbread that meets  your palate.

Price is reasonable considering you are buying local and organic items that are made to order. I will definitely come here again the next time we're in VT!

Yelp! led me to try out American Flatbread and I wasn't disappointed.  The only thing I may have been disappointed with is the wait, but I went shopping on Church street with my little buzzer thingamajig for about 30 minutes and then voila, we got in.

I was impressed by the lengthy selection of beers.  My favorite, "Hoegarden" was on the list.  I thought I could only find that at Whole Foods in California.  I opted out of beer though and ordered a lemonade and the beaux ordered an apple cider.

The atmosphere was booming with young people and it was nice and cozy and had some nice warm light. The tables had candles lit. I always love a place that has the brick wall exposed too, especially a pizza place; it just makes for a great dining experience.  We ordered The Punctuated Equilibrium flatbread and it was delicious!  Let me say, I've tried a lot of different kinds of pizza in my day, but this immediately made it to my top 3 favorites.

The beaux and I shared a delicious slice of wood oven baked apple pie with vanilla ice cream and a fresh sprig of mint.  It was the best flavor combination I've had in a dessert.  Not your typical sugery piece of pie either.  The sweetness was subtle and comforting.

Definately make reservations before heading over to AF.  But if you have to wait...it's worth every minute.

Great Flatbreads!  (I called them pizzas when I was there and was quickly corrected)

As mentioned by others, fresh ingredients, great beers made on site.  I highly recommend the special pizza (flatbread) whatever it is.  They pair seemingly disparate ingredients and turn them into great food.  I like the ambience and the service has always been good.

Go very early to avoid the rush.  I try to go right when they open.

One of the best family-friendly restaurants in the area.

American Flatbread can get very busy, but for good reason. It is known for its delicious pizza made with organic, local grown ingredients from farmers located all across the state. In addition to pizza, there is a plethora of local beers, the majority being from microbrews.

Walking in, you'll notice several wall racks to your left to hang your jacket. Just beyond that is the hostess, where you can put your name down, and you will be given a flashing buzzer which resembles a pizza slice. Our party of 4 came on a Friday evening around 7pm, and we waited a little over an hour to be seated. As you wait, there is a large bar area that many patrons go to grab a local beer or glass of wine. The ambiance of the place is very cozy, with the wood-lacquered bar and brick walls. In the main dining area, you can watch the chefs prepare your pizzas and watch them cook in the large clay oven. There are about 30 tables of all sorts, ranging from 2 & 4-person tables covered with a red/white boxed tablecloth, 4-person booths, to long wood-lacquered tables that can seat very large parties.

The menu is pretty simple with a choice of about 10 pre-set pizzas ranging from $7-$10 for a personal-sized pizza or $12-$18 for a large pizza. Other than the pizza, you can also order a salad. There are also daily specials written on several chalkboards throughout the restaurant.

For appetizers, we ordered the Evolution Salad ($6.00) which is organically grown sweet leaf & mesclun greens tossed with organic carrots, celery, arame seaweed, toasted sesame seeds and a fresh ginger-tamari vinaigrette flavored, and homemade raspberry vinegar. You can also add homemade vermont goat cheese for an additional $1.25 or crumbled jasper hill farm blue cheese for an additional $1.75. We ordered two salads, one with each type of cheese. For entrees, we ordered a large Revolution pizza ($16.75) which includes homemade organic tomato sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, cheeses and fresh herbs; and a large New Vermont Sausage ($18.50) which includes Duclos & Thompson farm fresh pork in homemade nitrate-free maple-fennel sausage baked with sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions, mushrooms, cheeses, and herbs.

Both salads took about 5-10 minutes to come out, but were well worth the wait. They were very delicious, all ingredients very fresh and the flavors complimenting each other so well. The goat cheese and blue cheese were especially good and left me wanting more.. In about another 10-15 minutes, our two pizzas came out, one placed on top of another with the use of a stackable metal pizza rack. Rather than the traditional slices being cut into triangles, the round thin-crust pizzas were cut like a Sicilian pizza (square slices) which makes eating easier. The Revolution pizza was decently good, but nothing jaw-dropping. All ingredients were indeed fresh as expected, but it did not have me yearning for more. On the other hand, the New Vermont Sausage pizza had me wanting more and more. I couldn't get enough of it. There was a considerable amount of each topping, but not too much where the pizza would just be drowned in toppings. The sausage was not overpowering with spices/saltiness, but complimented just right with the acidity of the sun-dried tomatoes. I would have liked there to be a little more sun-dried tomatoes so that the flavors of sweetness would be noticeable, but overall, the pizza was still very delicious.

I would have given this place 5 stars, but our visit this time was not as pleasant as past visits. Service was extremely lacking. We found our waitress very unattentive. She would go to every other table asking if everything was alright or if they needed anything else. She did not willingly come to our table once except to take our order and to drop the bill off. We also noticed that she served the other tables their food but not ours. After we had finished our salads, the pizzas came out, but we were left without clean dishes. The waitress ignored us several times, so we found ourselves eating over our salad dishes. Eventually, we got her attention and asked her for 2 plates, which she questioned us and walked away annoyed, but eventually did bring 2 plates. During our meal, all of our glasses of water were empty. Our waitress was no where to be found or pretended she was busy with every other table but ours. We asked another waitress for refills, which she gladly obliged and refilled our glasses. In about 4-5 minutes later, our waitress came out with a pitcher of water to refill all other tables. She did not even bother to glance at our table and notice that some of us could have used another refill. I usually don't do this, but we felt that our waitress was very rude and I will mention that her name was Diora K.

But to give this place justice and based on all prior visits, I will still award American Flatbread 4 stars. This minor mishap will not sway me from not coming back to American Flatbread because their pizza is just that good!

charging for parmesan cheese at a PIZZA joint?...
my revolution pizza (shroom and carmelized onions with their special, flavorless sauce) desperately needed it!  my husband, however, absolutely loved his extra spicy hot sauce (also an extra charge).  don't be fooled - it smelled and looked like bland salsa but it had a lot of KICK.  microwbrews (yum-TLA) were good, salad was very good but the pizza - not exciting at all.  the service was pretty slow too (there was a shift change when we arrived).

I definitely preferred the flatbread pie we had at three tomatoes. If I were to not compare the two I would say this was exceptional.
on the other hand I ordered a glass of pinot noir and it wasn't very good. and it was priced at 9.50 a glass. I still kind of suspect I was given the wrong wine. it was kind of tart and not very smooth like pinot normally is.
but we're here because of the flatbread, not the wine. mine was goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes free form flatbread. and it was great. really nice vermont goat cheese and I think the menu says they sun dry their own tomatoes. my husband got the pepperoni -but I'llet him do his own review.
the sauce is excellent (though like three tomatoes not enough, must be a philly thing on my part to want to have sauce in every bite)
they close between lunch and dinner and I suspect VBP does pretty nicely because of this.

Why I love you American Flatbread...

Could it be because your cheap in price?
Maybe because of the good food and drinks,
fresh veggies,
local ingredients,
micro brewery,
beer,
pizza,
heathen oven,
doughy but not too doughy crust,
warm fire on a cold VT night,
the Magic Hat Brewery is a short drive from here,
Allagash White beer on tap,
fresh rootbeer on tap?

This restaurant is remarkably popular and frequently has more than 30 min wait times for a table.  The flatbreads are really just pizza but what sets them apart are the creative ways they prepare it.  Steer clear of the complex, multi-ingredient flatbreads that they have as specials, the ingredients will just make the delicious flatbreads soggy.  The best menu items are the simple cheese and spice mixtures as toppings for this excellent flatbread and these will cost only half as much.
