American Eagles is tied for second in my list of hobby-shop love in the Puget Sound.
Head on down to Lake City, baby -- this was clearly a bumpin' burb back in the day, and now seems to have succumbed to a touch of urban blight. Developers are clearly trying to gentrify the area.
American Eagles is hangin' on in the "downtown" shopping area. Parking is sometimes sparse up front, but there's a big private lot 'round back (and as a bonus, you can pick up your meth from a bum in the lot).
The store's selection is massive, and extremely well organized. They also feature a truly large game section, with lots of older and out-of-print items (I've not seen so many modern-day military miniatures in 15 years...)
The staff, however, varies. I've been here a few times; on my first and last visits, the guy behind the counter was chatty and helpful, but I've also seen employees here that typify the stereotype of a rude, unwashed nerd-store employee.
Skyway Hobby down in Ren-ton is still my fave, but I highly recommend American Eagles as well. Keep your money local and skip the Internet sites.Listed in: Nerdasaurus Rex

Okay so I'm a nerd, well minus the pocket protector...
Back in the day these folks were located in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle, they moved to the Lake City area many years ago, too many for me to remember, but one thing remains the same, they have got it all!
From soup to nuts, this is the place to find your inner child and finally build that model ship from WW2 you've always wanted. You know the one, build it paint it and finally blow the crap out of it in the back yard with a few M-80's and a few pot shots with the old trusty bb rifle!
Staff here is trusty and knowledgeable, if they don't have it they'll try to give you suggestions on were to find things. With the advent of the Internet hobby shops are becoming a dieing breed. Make sure to support your local nerd-association and check this place out!!
Minus 1 star for lack of parking. You might be able to find some in the back area.Listed in: My Nerd list..., Rainy day activities

Went here for the first time to check to see if they had a game that I had been wanting to try out. The store is sweet with everything a lot of nerds would be looking for. Most of the store is models, while they did have an aisle for the board games.
They had a modest amount of games, but nothing spectacular compared to some of the other stores that I have been to in the past. I did have a question about a game, and the dude didn't know. That's fine, I don't expect everyone to have played something. However, he did say that it was one, if not the, best seller they had. I would take that as a cue to pick up the game yourself to familiarize yourself with it. That way you can really sell it for people on the fence or clear up questions about it. And slang out some games that are similar.
They didn't have the particular game that I was looking for, but was politely told that it coming in on the next shipment. Thanks for the heads up.
Some of their stuff looks like it hasn't moved since it was put there when they opened the store, but that just adds to the coolness of riffling around there.
I rated a 3 because it was neither bad nor fantastic. I went there for one thing that I was looking for and left without wanting anything else.
They do have slot cars though, wish I could add a half star for that. -

I used to get here at least once a year just to browse and see if there were any weird little games or game-related things I just couldn't live without, but I quit going a while back because this place is The Hobby Store that Time Forgot.
In retail there is a concept that everything must pay for the space it occupies. Product must turnover often enough to pay the rent and overhead. Not here though! They seem to be primarily a model and model railroad store now, but they still have neglected aisles full of D&D modules, board games, and ancient war gaming supplies that haven't moved in years or decades. The idea of getting rid of old inventory at a discount and bringing in something that will actually sell is a little alien to them. They do have a clearance area, but nothing from it ever seems to move either.
If you're big-time into models and model railroads this is probably a must-visit, but if you're on the D&D/board game end of things the internet will serve your needs just as well. -

When I was a young, pimply nerd in 80s, I'd come all the way from Sammamish to peruse this store's shelves of geeky goodness. And now, 25 years later, American Eagles hasn't changed -- it literally hasn't changed -- the same items are on the shelves: old AD&D books, Dragonlance stuff, figurines, etc. It's like stepping back in time.
