The way restaurants used to be before the chains came thru town.
Owner is an affiable country gent that is just as likely to sit down with you at the table as he is to be behind the counter!
Kid pancake is classic cute! Buffalo burger reminds you of just how much FAT is in a beef burger. French dip comes with Swiss cheese melted on (almost like a French onion soup kind). Very yummy quality place in modest nice all american cafe.
Nice place to stop for breakfast or lunch. Place closes at 2 pm. -
Review from Scott N.
By golly this restaurant came up with the perfect name for an American style cafe. American Cafe sits along 3rd Street on the way to McMinnville. This charming cafe is open only for breakfast and lunch. American Cafe is decorated with an American eagle theme. There's a refrigerator in the dining room and a counter faces the kitchen.
You can distinguish the locals from the tourists at American Cafe. The tourists all have menus whereas the local town people don't. While at American Cafe I heard this conversation:
Server: "Do you want your usual Myron?"
Myron: "Yup"
In most cases that is all it takes to order something at American Cafe. The menu consists of hearty breakfasts and traditional American lunches. On my visit to American Cafe I tried the breakfast fare. Among the breakfast offerings that day were rib eye steak, pork chops, and hand dipped chicken fried steak.
At American Cafe the pancakes are as big as the dinner plate. The meats are well prepared and the eggs are perfectly cooked to order. The service is friendly and attentive. They keep the coffee flowing at American Cafe. One nice touch is that American Cafe has half orders. When I finished my gigantic pancake I was so thankful that I didn't get the full order. The food here is consistent, hearty, tasty, and reasonably priced. You can easily fill your belly up for under $10 at American Cafe.
Long live the American Cafe in Lafayette and all over the USA! -

This cafe is home cooking at its best! I enjoy quaint cafe's with a family atmosphere and this place definitely has that!
The food is delicious! The quality is fresh and served hot, and that is exactly what we want when we pay to go out to eat. The qualities of this cafe are all there, friendly, quick, fresh, clean, and good prices! I highly recommend this cafe to anyone! -

Great food and great service. Pork schnitzel was light and crisp. Omelette was loaded to beyond perfection.

Best biscuits EVER! very good breakfast fare; good burgers too. Liked the French Dip with steaming hot jus. O-rings crisp and tasty, good, attentive service at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon just before closing (at 2:00PM)

The food is decent and helpings are very large. Old fashioned diner style. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. They seem to have an insect problem, as we saw many ants in the dining area coming in through the windows while we were trying to eat.
