Last Saturday, my boyfriend, coworker Liz and I finally checked out the Muay Thai class up in PB for the 12:30pm class.  I spoke with Gina on the phone and she told me to be there at 12:15PM and bring water.  Of course, I gotta listen to Miss Muay Thai Champ.

Unfortunately, Gina and the rest of the fighters/trainers were up in LA for a fight.  The trainer that subbed in was not bad himself. He made us sweat reaaaaal hard.  I haven't done kickboxing since 07 so I LOVED it.  It was my bf's first time EVER and he never really wanted to do it because he thought it was mainstream.  But after that class, he is now interested in learning it.  That was the first time I ever seen him tired and he works out pretty damn hard (come on-- former marine).  In fact, we all do. The class kicked my ass.

I was pretty sore for a good 3 days. I noticed some bruising on my shin, foot and elbow. Liz had some pretty hardcore bruises on her shin herself.

Overall, it felt more like a fighters gym in there. Not all fancy, wancy like the Boxing Club I used to go to.  It was small, the class size was small too therefore we got more one-on-one attention by the trainer. So it was great...We all want to come back again when Gina is instructing. 5 STARS!

I love to exercise and have always been a healthy and fit person, but a few months ago I had a huge personal tragedy. I fell into depression and stopped exercising and ate all junk food. In three months I gained over 30 pounds! I finally started to run out of clothes to wear and I knew I had to make a change.

When I came to American Boxing, I was so out of shape I could barely do a push up against the wall and I only had one pair of pants that I could still fit into. Now I have been going to classes for 10 weeks and I have already lost 10 pounds and gained so much muscle tone back. Dave and Gina are the two primary trainers and they are AWESOME! They are a great team and have been so supportive, taking me from barely able to do a squat or a push up, to the point that I ask 'only 50 squats?' They are great motivators and have pushed me hard, but I never feel like they have asked me to do something that was beyond my ability. I have mainly done Cross Fit, but I have also taken some Muay Thai, both classes are fun and challenging.

Now I am in much better shape, my clothes are all starting to fit me right again and I have my American Boxing Family to help keep me on track!

I absolutely recommend American Boxing!

I had tried a few gyms before I found American Boxing and after one class I knew I had found what I was looking for.  I was a complete novice who wanted to learn to box and potentially compete down the road.  The coaches took the time to work with me both in the group classes and 1 on 1 and my fitness and skills really developed.

The environment here is one of success, whether your goal is fitness or competition there is something here for you.  There is a wide variety of classes from Boxing and Muay Thai to Crossfit.  I can honestly say that I hadn't ever worked out harder than these classes but the results came quickly, I dropped 20 lbs in a couple of months with no real diet change.

What I like is that this gym provides more than just a workout, the coaches provide nutriton advice and have a network that gives members discounts to massage therapy, chiropractors etc.

If you're looking for results this is the place to come to.

I actually train in OC but I'm always looking for other places. I was on a trip to San Diego and tried this place out it came highly reccommended and I was not disappointed. From the minute I walked in the owners and staff were very friendly. They are very knoweledgeable. If you want to move to the next level and want to train like a fighter this is the place. The training is hard, as it should be. It's a very relaxed almost family feel here. I can't say enough good things about this place I would drive there just to train on the weekends. There are a lot of schools out there but this is definately one of the best. Check it out you will be glad you did!!

History

Established in 2003

Dissatisfied with the direction San Diego Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu/ MMA gyms were heading: 20-30+ people per class, all about the money, quantity in students with no quality training, Dave Nielsen Muay Thai fighter/trainer partnered with Personal trainer and Muay Thai fighter Gina Reyes to start a small academy for serious fitness seekers and combat sports enthusiasts.  Dave passed on a potentially successful UCLA pre-law acceptance in order to pursue his love of Thai Boxing, health and physical fitness at his and Gina's gym; American Boxing MMA and Fitness Center.

Meet the Manager: Gina R.

A Certified Personal Trainer since 1998, a Muay Thai fighter since 2002 and Thai boxing coach since 2003, Gina Reyes is legitimately a Master Fitness trainer and Muay Thai Kru.  In 2007 Gina was a featured fighter on The Oxygen Channel reality show Fight Girls.  An unfortunate and severe back injury has sidelined her and removed her from the potential of competition.  As a result, Gina has committed 100% of herself into every goal orientated person who steps into American Boxing.  In 2000 Gina was the Coxswain for the San Diego State University men's Varsity Crew team.  Her leadership and motivational abilities helped lead SDSU mens crew to their 1st EVER trip to The National Championships.  This is the level to which Gina pushes everyone she works with and why she is a mentor to women and leader in the sports and fitness community .  Gina is currently becoming Stott Pilates Certified and continues to grow as a coach and trainer.
