I found out about American Best from my boss' sister who had used their services.

Overall I am quite happy.  Mike and Miguel were the two movers who helped me leave the scary area of K-town and settle into West LA.

They were late (30 minutes due to traffic coming from the Valley) and a bit sluggish at getting started but worked in the dark (since I cut off my LADWP that day)

They handled my items with care and didn't overcharge me.  The sales associate Karla was helpful but didn't tell me a few bits and pieces about the cost, which was ok in the end because it was only 20 more.

I think they work with the customer and definitely are fair with boxes and any charges.

I had to put a couch and my Vera Wang bed into a small bedroom and the men worked with me and moved it several times til it suited me.

I tipped them each $ 30 because I can't imagine moving people daily. It must suck! They turned a stressful experience into a less stressful one.

They surveyed the area as well to find out if the alley or the street was the better way to load the items, and also were aware of possible tickets by the cops due to the time of when they were double parked.

I would recommend them (I was only charged $ 70/hr) and instead of the 4 hr minimum I had 3 which was great.  I was charged for 3.5 for driving time but like I said they helped me out with other stuff and the cost so I wasn't worried.

Thanks to the guys for a great and tireless job from start to finish!  They accept cash, cashier's checks, money orders, credit cards, and personal checks.  If you use a credit card they will charge 3 % (which I guess is standard as the other moving companies do that also).  I opted for a personal check.

I'd like to preface this by explaining that I've moved 10x in 10 years and four of them were cross-country moves.  I have had many experiences with movers and this is the only time I have ever needed to complain.

I will give American Best Moving credit where it is due.  The movers who picked up our stuff in Pasadena did a great job.  They were really thorough in wrapping things up to make sure that nothing was damaged or scratched.  If we'd moved locally and had only to deal with those 3 guys, I think we could have had a good experience.

My husband and I moved to North Carolina, and they agreed to deliver our things one week from the date that they picked it up.  Yes it's a tight window, but they said they could do it and that's why we hired them.
On the Wednesday they were supposed to deliver, they said that our things would be here until the weekend.  After that, people stopped responding to our messages or claimed that they couldn't help us.  Our things didn't show up that weekend, and we couldn't get a single person to talk to us...people just shuffled us around to other people or promised to call us back and didn't.
On Tuesday of the week after we should have gotten our stuff, we were finally able to speak with a manager, Alex, who promised that our things would arrive with 24-48 hours.  They did not.
On Thursday, we got a phone call from the driver saying that our things would arrive between 4-6pm the next day.  My husband took a half day off work.  Our things didn't show up.  Friday night, we called Alex who responded that b/c it was after 7pm, nothing could be done and we'd need to wait until morning to know if the driver was even on his way.  Eventually, he gave us the dispatcher in New York's number.
The dispatcher in NY told us that our stuff was in Alabama and wouldn't be in NC until the next week but he didn't know when exactly.

Our things finally got here Sunday morning and only because we demanded that we be the first stop in NC.  The loading dock was already occupied by other movers because we hadn't been able to make a reservation (since we had no clue when they would show).  Because of this, the movers charged us an ADDITIONAL $100 for making them wait.  Obviously, the movers found it unacceptable to wait 1.5 hours even though they'd made us wait 12 days after the promised delivery date with no refund.

Some of our things were damaged and one box is missing b/c our things were not shipped cross-country in the truck they were picked up in but were repacked (who knows how many times).

Do NOT use this company if you aren't moving locally.  They have by far the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

I filed a BBB complaint against them for the $100 and the cost of an airbed and the responded by calling me a liar.

Horrific!  I used this company for the first time a few years back and they were great.  I used them this last time and it was quite the unpleasant ordeal.  I specifically asked them to be there at 7am, they got there at 8:30am.  Nobody was even in the office until 8am and there's no emergency or after hours number or pager or anything to reach them if no one is in the office.  The manager gives me an attitude tells me they had me down for 8am and there's nothing he could do.  I probably told the girl who answered the phone 5 times that I wanted a 7am appointment.  Even if they had me down for 8am they were still late.  The guys worked fairly fast once they got to me but then the truck broke down.  I had use my own AAA benefits to fix THEIR truck.  It was a mess.  Then once he gets to my new place he tried to tell me it took over an hour to get there when there was actually no traffic (1st time in history) on the 405 and we got there in 30mins.

Here's the icing on the cake....just recently, I decided to buy a new bed frame and discovered that the current one was being held together by tape.  They apparently lost the screws and bolts and jerry-rigged my bed frame together and I would've never known if I didn't decide to buy a new frame (because I thought my current one was raggedy) or when the bed would've finally broke underneath me.  Terrible!

If you enjoy making a plan to have movers arrive for a small job (less than the three hour minimum they require), inviting other family members over to your place so the movers could help put some of the furniture in their truck (we're giving to them), and then not having the movers show up at all...this is the moving company for you.  If not, ABSOLUTELY AVOID these movers.  We called them an hour after they were supposed to show up - they did not call on their own - whereupon they said they wouldn't be able to make it for yet another three hours!  This while relatives waited at our place, having taken the day off work, to take some of the moved furniture away.  Of particular note, we were put in touch with a pretty surly manager who was clearly annoyed we'd have the nerve to press him about when the exact time would be that they could show up: muttering "Jesus Christ" as he called his dispatcher and then getting angry when I told him I might have to find another moving co. on the fly as a Hail Mary.  We eventually cancelled the American "Best" appointment entirely and pressed our relatives into work with their own truck and a rented minivan.  The move actually turned out to be manageable and we got some exercise as well.  Thanks for reminding me I need to get back to the gym, American "Best."  A real pleasure (not) doing business with you!

This is a follow up to my previous review - I've sent many friends to American Best and they've all been 100% Satisfied! But I just had a friend email me back about some negative reviews he saw about this company. I made some calls and found out that there's another company with the same name out there that has attracted some negative complaints and I guess they're having a hard time separating them from this site. So if you call make sure you Ask for the owner Alex Trejo, he'll take care of you : ) And if its not Alex, then its the wrong American Best Moving Company

There is no use getting a 'not to exceed' estimate.  I hired them last year to do a move from LA to bay area and they conveniently added quite a few charges that were originally not even talked about.  They also promised to deliver within 2 days of me calling them - it took them 4 more days on top of the 2.  The guys that they sent couldn't assemble the bed (that was part of the agreement).
