I try to only buy products that are made in the US of A! American Apparel products are not only made in the US, but actually made in Downtown Los Angeles!!! This is the place where all the American Apparel products are made.

I saw workers sewing and making clothing while I was at their warehouse sale event, and I walked around the factory to see exactly where and how they make products.

Sure, American Apparel has stores all over the country, and even overseas, but where else can you actually go to the headquarters? It's only here!

This place has a store right next to the factory which is pretty awesome! It is so very local.

Only thing I should point out is that you cannot return anything you buy at this particular location. All sales are final, and they really mean that! If you want to return something, you must go to a different location. So make sure you buy only things that you really like!

As far as American Apparel goes, this location is as close to the factory you can get!

American Apparel is expensive, so if you've saved up enough money to pick up a few items, I suggest making the trip to the Factory store. Parking is free, items are between $2-20 cheaper than at the regular retail stores, and they have a wide selection available. Be sure to inspect your items throughly though, sometimes they're not in the best condition they can be (carelessly stitching, some fraying, very minor imperfections, etc).

Long live LA and American Apparel.

Have been here previously the past couple of years but most recently for the crazy warehouse sale back in October. Got some great deals ($15 for a hoodie, $10 for some t-shirts, $5 for some leggings). You can't beat that with a stick.

Staff interaction was fine; nobody was overly friendly but definitely not rude. The warehouse sale was on an upper floor and stretched on for m i l e s with tons of racks and bins to poke through. Come with a few hours to spare if they do one of these again.

Tons of free parking in the humongous lot out front, however it gets pot-holey and off-roady in places so avoid those patches unless you want your car to bottom out.

This is probably my favorite American Apparel store in the So Cal area. The workers actually acknowledge customers and are super helpful.

Parking is FREE and is in the factory parking lot

The prices of the clothing varies. Everything for the most part is slightly cheaper. The newer and more expensive items stayed the same price ($4 less then the listed price)

however a lot of pieces were cheaper. I received 20 dollars off  of one skirt and 10 dollars off a pair of shorts since they were slightly defected. (which I honestly didn't notice).

I say it's more worth the trip if you want to buy a whole bunch of stuff since you'd save probably 10 - 20 ish percent off of your purchase

SIDE NOTE: it's literally less than a mile away from Santee Alley which is a huge fashion swap meet. Make it a fun day trip!

This review is only for the online shopping.

I purchased  their coupon on Livingsocial, I never buy anything from them and I just want to try out their stuff.

2 weeks ago, I order this Cotton Ottoman Rib Drop-Shoulder Pullover. The item that I received  is damaged and way over sized.  I order size M, but it comes like Size XXL.
So I called them and send it back to exchange it.
AA emailed me that they issued a returning shipping label for me and told me to call them, when I called them, AA told me on the phone that I can just send it back at my own cost.So confusing!
I emailed AA to send them a copy of the printed returning label(the one that I pay for it) and told them again what went wrong with the item as they requested again.
Since then, I never heard anything from them anymore.
I tried to email them: NO reply!
I tried to call them: ALWAYS on answering machine!!
Why does a company join a promo coupon program to kill their own company image?
Isn't the promotion to attract more people?

Don't shop there and waste your happiness and  time.
    NOT WORTH IT!

The BASICS will never go out of styles!

Quality, Price, Functionality, Colors, and most importantly American Apparel's branding/marketing: That sultry, exotic yet very "common/ordinary" sexy look of the models who are wearing plain BASICS but their body language, postures & positions and stares communicate something to the audience... That something! You know what I mean? :)

Whenever I need to place large quantity of t-shirt orders, I visit their showroom on 8th or 11th floor. I'm attracted to AA's wide range of color selections, comfort and quality. All other styles will fade and go away, but the BASICS (especially American Apparel brand's basics) are meant to stay. They are not effected by the current waves of temporal trends.

I came here today for their rare AA 90% off warehouse sale.

I give it 5 stars because it's exactly what I expected and more from a clothing flea market.

    Flea Market Criteria:
    1. Lots of options.
    2. An organized mess of clothes
    3. Down to earth customer service
    4. LOW LOW PRICES!

The sale took place within the warehouse and the place seemed like it went on forever. I'm not a fan of shopping for clothes but i'm hooked on the quality and the low prices!

I left with sweatpants, shorts, a cardigan and a gym bag for $40.

    Nuff said.

Sale ends October 31, 2011. Get on it folks.

Warehouse Sale!! The place is gigantic!! If you're looking to make Greek stuff, might as well by all your sweaters, t-shirts, cardigans, etc here!  It doesn't have a lot in stock if you're making it for a whole sorority or fraternity, but it's good for making your "little" some letters :)

I came on a different note. I just saw they had a sale and went to it for good ol' casual wear shopping.  Everything was said to be up to 90% off but with AA prices, it may just seem like standard prices for what it's worth.  Nonetheless. Spent a good $80 on basics (t-shirts, shorts, cardigans). Quality is still great though. If there are defects, they still offer a 25% discount! Sweet.

The place is a cool experience since there is a HUGE floor with racks and racks of AA.. but it's expected being in the factory.  The lines can get pretty long but there are many cashiers that keep the line moving forward.

My first time visiting the American Apparel HQ and came for the warehouse sale.  The sale started at 9am and my friends and I got there around 10:30am.  I expected a long line out the door but there was actually no line and we found parking right away.  It was definitely crowded inside but since the clothes were divided into sections it made things easier.  It took about 2-3 hours for us to look through everything.  The clothes were pretty much 50% off and above.  The v neck shirts were $10, sweaters around $30, skirts for $10, accessories around $5+.

Definitely come and check out the sale.  You can get a lot of great things for $20 and under.

This place is one of the few reasons I'll drive the horrible drive up to downtown LA. It's pretty easy to find since it's a huge ass pink building across the street from a McDonalds. Don't worry about parking - there's usually plenty of it.

Just like most of the regular American Apparel locations, the only things that are different about this place is that it's attached to the factory, where everything is made, and that a lot of their items are marked down somewhat or a lot cheaper. They usually also have more items as well. I usually leave this place with at least $150 worth of clothes (I know - I have a sickness and it's called impulse shopping). But hey - I get a lot when spending that much compared to if I would have gone to a regular AA store. Real talk though - a lot of the basics that are normally ridiculously priced at the other stores or online, you can save like $20-40, depending on what it is, off. Just sayin'.

I've never had any problem with the customer service here. The people working are always really nice and willing to help. No returns or exchanges though, so that's a bummer. This place is definitely worth the drive up from Orange County.

I thought it was great. good selection. went at 10:30am Sat Morn Dec 3, 11. I was the only customer in there. I used my Groupon with no problem. The girl at the front was very nice, had good answers. The prices are better than the Malibu location.

Within a month I didn't really feel the quality of my hoodie held up.

    I haven't gone back.

I am the biggest American Apparel fan ever. I had this addiction at one point in my life, but I've eased it. This factory is the bomb.

    Parking is amazing.

I've only went here for the warehouse sale, which lasts for 10 days.

So, if ever there is a warehouse sale, I advise you check it out.

We trekked out here for the warehouse sale. It was so overwhelming - lots of people getting naked and trying on clothes on the floor, loud music, everything scattered about, and the factory workers still on the clock, and no A/C?
BUT it had some amazing deals...STEALS, really. You'll see people brought their IKEA bags. They brought them for a reason. I hope you brought yours.
We had to be really careful to check each item for mistakes, poor quality, and BLEACH stains.
Kinda wish I'd brought earplugs, horse blinders, and a personal misting fan, but I was very happy with my loot.

We buy from American Apparel alot through our business.  I didn't happen to know our account number when I called to get pricing on a large corporate order.  The girl that answered the phone refused to look it up and told me that she doesn't have time to look up an account number every time someone calls.  Are you kidding me?  Do you not want our business?  I wasn't able to get the number because my accounting person wasn't in the office.  I think this is the rudest transaction I have ever experienced.  We have alot of options and I will go seek those other options to avoid dealing with people like this rep in the future. You may want to learn some customer service skills since you are in a CUSTOMER SERVICE position.

Thought it was cool writing savings this way, but the friend I went with b****ed about how he couldn't find enough savings.  Nevertheless many things were 30% off.

Outlet is attached to factory.  You feel your at the epicenter of all the AA fashion.

Is there such a thing as a "0 star" because I would give this place one. Never in my life have I been treated so bad with customer service. No one talks to you, no one helps you out, no one thanks you for buying something. I might be a short little Asian girl but I don't think I'm that unnoticeable that you have to ignore me and give me an attitude.

I guess I'll give you a one star just because I found a cute dress and for the first time, bought something at an American Apparel store. Thanks for having a nice guy at the parking booth though, at least there's some customer service there.

Cheaper than regular stores ? My ass. They're as explensive, if not more with the gas you put to get up here. Thanks! I went thinking I would get a super hook up. NOT! Just as pricey for a f'ing plain top. The workers are so fake too. they greet you with a dead face as if they had gone out partying the night before and were hung over as shit. Another thing, no AC ? Really ? This is LA on a summer day. Do I wanna be shopping in a steamy ass room ? Of course not. You also have to chase the employees around as if we all were playing hide and seek with them. Horrible experience. Plain horrible.

    WEAK.

Not only are the prices identical to those in the retail stores, but they also often have defects (stains, small holes, etc.) that would lead you to expect discounted prices... t-shirts were $20-24, hoodies were $46, you get the picture.

Granted, it's not any *worse* in terms of pricing or customer experience than a regular AA store... but don't be misled into thinking you'll come here and get good deals on anything except last year's ugly t-shirts and the occasional pack of socks.

I don't know if the people below (who gave 4 or 5 stars) work for AA or visited during a random sale of some kind, but it certainly doesn't reflect my experience. (Yes, I know about the Flea Market, which would obviously provide a totally different experience than a typical day at this store).

This places' selection is pretty random. They have a pretty good selection of women's stuff and a good variety of sizes but the prices for some items are kind of skewed.

I feel like it doesn't make sense to sell items at the warehouse that are of retail price. So in that sense, this store is a bit of a bummer. But the items that are reduced in price are a really good bargain. I bought some dresses and a romper that were half retail price, only $17! Their intimates are also a good deal, bras for as cheap as $5.

The thing I was surprised with the most though was their customer service. Being an American Apparel store I expected some bitchy hipsters to ignore me and/or give me dirty looks but the girls working here were really nice and helpful.

Even though this place has a good variety and seemingly good prices, I would probably only come back if I had another Groupon deal.

I came here using a GROUPON! And they fucked me over!! Let's start with the store friendly staff lurking throughout the store. Helpful too. All the girls working there were no bigger than a medium but the majority of them wore XS or Small. I'm usually a Large in everything. So I started grabbing and metally caluclating my total. Then it dawned on me I should try the stuff since I'm already here. None of it fit. Thankfully they go up to an XL in select items. So I proceed to checkout, paid the difference and left the store. Little did I notice that I was charged a LIPGLOSS..which I did not purchase or find in my bag. I called and the lady that answered the phone  said she asked the cashier and she said I got a LIPGLOSS!! WTF? Really I was thinking how do u know who I am over the phone, u didn't even let me describe to u the cashier because there was 2. Ummm ok so why not you check the cameras I told her, I have no reason to steal from ur store a $12 LIPGLOSS!.she said come tomorrow by 5 pm and I'll be here just ask for me.....name which I don't remember now. Needless to say I went back around 11ish on a Friday the next day as told. And there was a parking nazi that kept telling me I can't park there or there or there. I told him it would be 5 mins he said no. I left and I never returned. Lost 12 bucks but it's not the money that bothered me it's the fact that th lady over the phone mad me feel like I was trying to streak from them. Plzzz I have kids that I wanna go home to, I wouldn't dare steal from a blind cashier.

My friends and I went there. I personally am not a fan of American Apparel, but decided to give it a chance since there's a freaking warehouse literally down the street.
    Service was EHH.
Clothing was pricey for something I could put together (and I can't even work a sewing machine).
    Sizing does not vary.

My sole purpose for coming here was to buy a hoodie, but they were all retail price ($46).  What gives? I thought it was suppose to be cheaper.  I ended up just going online and buying the two pack instead.

There were some savings to be had here but not significant.  I found a mauve off the shoulder top for $25 that sells for $35 at the regular stores, and a bandeau for $9 that retails for $11.  I would recommend checking your items for defects though, as I noticed the bottom of the top had ripples where it was sewn.

American Apparel is a bunch of crybabies when you review them negatively and Yelp likes to protect the interest of their potential advertisers by removing offensive entries.

The security guards at this factory shop did something highly illegal. Deal with it, American Apparel. Your clothes look gay and you should feel bad.

Yelp, you should especially feel bad.

Gay men: Sorry about the above comment, but I honestly can't tell who's straight in this city anymore. Dudes are whining that a girl has never bought them a drink. Jesus.

Straight men: It will help your case if you don't buy anything at American Apparel.

I'm depressed.  I wish, I wish, I was still in Los Angeles.  But I'm not.  So, I ordered online at American Apparel.

Anyhow, I needed black baby clothes.  My girls' closet looks like pink vomit.  I got tons of clothes for the girls from friends/fam -- all pink.  I'm starting to hate pink.  I just don't get why baby clothes for girls looks like grandma-wear.  Gross.

Anyhow, I don't want to throw away all of pink gifts I received.  But, all of the clothes the girls received are for the SoCal weather.  I needed black leggings, black long sleeved shirts and black hoodies so that I could l coordinate and layer with the pink clothes.

Finding black baby clothes is almost impossible.  Finding solid colored baby clothes is almost impossible.  The only AA store in this area that sells baby clothes is in DC and they don't carry black.  So, I ordered online.  The clothes came w/i 5 days.  I got exactly what I ordered.  There was zero shipping fee.  Yes, it's a little pricey.  I spent $88 on leggings, long sleeved T, and hoodies (X 2 for twins).  I did my research, American Apparel is the best price for solid or black colored baby clothes.

The money was well spent.  The clothes are super soft and durable.  I'm layering my heart out.   Plus, when I dress them in all black they look like ninjas -- how cute is that?

So for moms, dads and friends of babies -- if you don't want cutesie clothes or clothes with logos -- shop @ AA.  The clothes are simple and well made.  I will be ordering online @ AA for every future baby shower gift!

So, I guess the guy from this company kinda understands the current ills of globalization theory.  Chomsky did too, but with a much less revealing v-neck shirt and no spandex. (Well, i suppose i'm making a generalization there.  I digress.)

My decemberists t-shirt was from american apparel.  It didn't fare well with the iron oxide from my deodorant stick.  Therefore, I must address my decemberists shrit in past tense.  I guess I should appreciate the fact that it was made somewhere near wokano as opposed to tibet.

    I think.

I don't really understand the difference between modernization and globalization theories.  failboat.

Last night, I bought a $65 cape here for $24, woohoooo!!

Otherwise, I like to stay far away from AA.  Overpriced for not-that-great quality and it's usually a pretty uncomfortable, pretentious, hipster-y environment.

ETA:  The cape was fine when I brought it home but the first time I wore it, the last two buttons popped off and now I have to use a safety pin to "button" the cape.  COOL.

After reading a few of the reviews I figured I would give AA a try and Honestly I don't know what the big hype is about. I walked in and was immediately disappointed not only in the low quality, over priced, massively defective, non original clothing but in their staff. It was like walking into the girls restroom at a bar....I knew their life story in the 20 minutes I was there. (note to their employees) YOU'RE AT WORK, so GET TO IT!!! No one wants to know why Billy didn't call you back last night!

Upstairs in the wholesales room, you do need a wholesalers and business account from the city, and it will definitely save you money if you have one when purchasing samples.

    WOWWWW.

This "WOWWWW" is not necessarily good or bad. The American Apparel Flea Market is a strange phenomenon.
I've never been before so I have NO idea of what to expect. I couldn't even find any great reviews for the event.

SO my roommate and I got up at the crack of dawn, left our hotel around 6:30 and got to the Factory around 7:15 or so...this also allots some time for me getting on the wrong freeways, etc.

Parking was right in the Factory parking lot! That was great!! Parking was the one thing I was nervous about beforehand. We got in line and there was probably about 100 people already there. The wait wasn't too horrible. We brought a towel from the hotel to sit on since we were standing in lines right in the parking lot...probably not the cleanest place to be sitting on. Everyone was pretty calm, talking and waiting.

Around 9:45 or so they decided to break up the line from presale ($10 online which includes: first to get in, a $5 gift card for later, and a free taco- the taco is what sold me)  to regular entrance. THIS is when it got chaotic. People were jumping the fences that seperated the lines and everyone got packed in. The sale was SUPPOSE to start at 10am...but maybe it was considered fashionably late and started around 10:40am- the crowd was getting EXTREMELY antsy.

FINALLY people were being let in and the first few people started RUNNING to what they saw. I mean, I really like AA clothes, but this was just ridiculous. It was also a sunny day so the beating down sun DID NOT help the atmosphere.  Luckily a lot of the clothes were separated by type (ex. dresses, pants, skirts...) and then organized by size.

You have to be careful though- a lot of the clothes are seconds and have holes or rips in them. But they do have garments that are fine.

The prices were all under $15 so I left with quite a bit of stuff for $140.

If you're down to wait in line for hours- and give up the ability to look at American Apparel clothes for the next few months, then it's a cool experience.

I could go on and on but this is long enough- haha sorry!
It was fun- but I dont think im going to go back next year.

Many years ago, my friends and I were driving around downtown LA on a Saturday after hitting the fashion district.  Matt yelled, "300,000 [# may be wrong] square feet of t-shirt madness?!  We're going there!"

We pulled in, and security lifted the gate for us.  A bus of people (in a blue school bus) were outside, waiting to work.  We joked that the baby (of the couple I'd been driving with) was visiting his first sweatshop.  Security let us take a hand-operated elevator upstairs with a group.  We never even signed in.  Finally, as we wandered down a hall and into the sewing area, a man in a jester hat (I swear this is true) said in heavily accented English, "uh, you can't be in here."  He led us to a showroom, where we scoffed at overpriced panties and t-shirts without graphics.  But the employees seemed really happy.

Several months later, American Apparel started getting press and soon became what it is today.  I learned that those employees WERE probably happy and that it wasn't a sweat shop.  I realized those overpriced clothes (still more than other brands) are pretty well made and comfy--but still pricey for what they are.

But based on their "ads", reports about the owner's behavior, and stories I heard around LA from former employees, I have to pass on American Apparel.

I am an AA addict and not ashamed to admit it.  My favorite styles are their tri-blend tanks and tees, as well as my wardrobe staple black cotton leggings.  It is such a cozy and lazy wardrobe and I look good in it so that is all that matters, right?  Since this place is close to my job and I didn't bring a change of clothes with me, I just popped over and grabbed a new pair of leggings and a tank and voila instant outfit.  And I had no idea that this place was slightly discounted being that it is the factory store, after all.

My bf made a funny while we were here too...he said "wow if they ever say they can't find something or run out all you gotta do is go next door and ask for it and they'll go ahead and make it for you."  Well, he said it funnier than that but you get the idea.

Parking here is sort of scarce since you have all the factory workers parking here too.

I guess because the clothes are not manufactured to perfection in slave-sweatshops in China and Mexico, people get disappointed if the seams are slightly off (insert eye roll).  I really appreciate and respect the sweatshop free, locally made aspect of this line and will continue to patronize it as long as it is around.

I just went to the most recent one and let me tell you.. AHHHHHHH! I'm never coming back again!

Not only did I have to stand in the hot hot hot hot sun for a few hours, or the crew letting us highly anticipating shoppers in late, I did not find any nice pieces of clothing. I get it, that's why they put all the rejected pieces on this market.. they even have a lot of damaged clothing. If you're trying to look for things that you like from the actual stores, don't bother going here if you're ready to go on a hunt... like finding a pin in a haystack. I'm good.. never again.

As the owner of a youth lifestyle media/consulting company, my clients often ask me to help them with their marketing projects, which sometimes involve merchandising, custom screen printing, and things like that. As a result, I have a wholesale account with American Apparel, so I'll base my review on my experiences ordering and picking up clothing for these marketing projects.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE
You can order online, or call in the afternoon, and your shirts will be boxed and ready for pickup the next morning at the wholesale/will call desk. There have even been times when I've called first thing in the morning when they opened up, and they had all our shirts/sweaters ready for me to pick up by about 2pm. Awesome! The staff at the pickup desk are always pretty helpful and attentive, and they are quick to get your boxes of wholesale garments and process your credit card, etc. No complaints there!

    PRODUCT QUALITY
I don't order any MENS items from AA. I think the thin, elasticky tight fitting shirts look pretty gay, unless you like that "extra smedium" tightly fitted look. But chances are, most guys I know who rock those types of shirts (especially the V neck ones) are trying to attract other men anyway. Therefore, we buy our men's shirts from a different supplier.

For women, the most common things we order from AA are the 3308 Boybeaters and the zip-up hoodie sweatshirts, in different colors, and we also have tried different variations of the classic AA boybeater. The young attractive, fashionable women who help me with marketing and merchandising tell me they're easy to wear, and easy for girls to buy. These same merchandising assistants (ok, fine. you caught me. most of them are models, but some of them went to FIDM ok?) also tell me that since American Apparel is pretty popular, most young women are familiar with AA's boybeater tanktops, and like how the fabric stretches over their boobs. (I like that feature too, hehe!) No complaints from them, or from me! =)

    ONE GRIPE
No, I'm not going to comment on how AA's owner, Dov Charney is involved in several sexual harrassment lawsuits because he hit the skins of several female AA employees. I don't care, that's his own business! My "one gripe" is about the parking lot!

If you haven't noticed by now, I always pay attention to parking lots, because I don't want to ruin my car or its wheels. The parking lot at American Apparel's downtown LA headquarters is always so damn bumpy and dusty, I hate driving there after I've just washed my car. The lot is always super full of cars and potholes, and the dusty lot always gets my shoes and the bottom of my jeans dirty. Annoying! Pave that shit already Dov! You swear to God you don't have enough people working there who know how to do landscaping and paving! Use some of that knowledge and have those cats bang out a decent parking lot for your customers! Thanks!

This is the AA Factory store!!!

Everything in here are discounted from the regular store price, but do try on/inspect the items.  Some of them may have damages/irregularities, but most of them are minor/not noticeable.  Their sales associates are very helpful and there are somthings in this store that you can't find anywhere else (like their urban renewal pieces).

Have fun shopping here, but do pay attention to items you're grabbing!!!
