Brooklyn, NY
We all know what American Apparel is about - cotton basics, stretchy "dance" gear, and retro accessories. (OMG, is that an actual watch that you wear on your wrist? ) This location also sometimes has some vintage selections, which is a plus, but it always run out of size mediums of everything that I want, which is a minus.
Apparently this inventory issue applies to the baby and kids gear here too, because they didn't have baby leggings in the size that I wanted. It's too bad because the baby stuff is very cute - they have brightly colored onesies, t-shirts, leggings, jumpers, hoodies, cardigans, bibs, and swimwear.
The staff is always nice and appropriately retro dorky. -

I don't understand why people shop at American Apparel, or how it's still in business.
99% of the items at AA don't appeal to me. It doesn't seem practical at all. Their sizing is messed up too. I'm usually a size Small but at AA, I can fit into XS, S, M & L just fine, it doesn't make any sense.
I came to this AA the other day because I had a gift card. Every time I walk into an AA, I am shocked by the way the workers dress. Aren't they supposed to entice others to dress like them, and want to purchase things at the store? They just make me feel sad for them for wearing unflattering clothes and looking unattractive. The girls here are cute too, and they are just doing themselves a disfavor.
As usual, I couldn't find anything that I wanted, so I used the money on the gift card to purchase their nail polish. Their nail polish are the only things that I am a huge fan of. They have awesome colors.
I bought 4 of them, and the girl asked me if I wanted a bag for them. I said "Yes, please" and all she did was wrap them in tissue paper and hand it to me, I could not believe it. I asked for a fucking bag so I didn't have to hold them in my hands, are you stupid?Listed in: williamsburg !

Frankly, I have no use for thong backed leotards or shiny bronze metallic leggings that mock and shame my spandex phobic thighs.
People don't wear this shit in real life. Thus, I have been steadfast in my disdain and for American Apparel.
Until, I was lured into AA, by the siren call of a particular Silver Metallic String Bikini Top. That shit was Hawt. Sure it'll spend most of its life in the top drawer of my dresser, but occasional outings are possible.
Its true, some of their stuff borders on the side of the ridiculous. Yes, they have staples like leggings and tee shirts. However, the only reason I'd pay their inflated prices for a tee-shirt is if it had a Big Lebowski reference on it or a Yelp Starburst.
In hind site I'm giving American Apparel an extra star because my Yelp Elite tee is actually one of the nicest tee's I own and it makes the girls look particularly good.
Hmm, maybe I'll start saving my non-profit whore pennies for another AA tee-shirt. -

I never shop American Apparel, but my friend decided to go window shopping with me. She wanted to try a couple of things on. I helped her browse. Never did a sales person come up to us and ask us for help. The clothes are overpriced for the quality. I can't stand how it's just so casual yet everyone thinks it should be a staple item. I could never wear anything in there if it costs that much for blah....

Ah,Summer--the sweatiest and the dirtiest of the seasons.
In a sun-soaked haze, I'd been on the look-out for some long-sleeve tees.
"But Ben, aren't long-sleeves kinda' warm to wear?"
Yeah, but they protect my arms from the sun.
There are just days where I don't feel like buttoning things.
Heh.
Anywho, I was psyched to see that AA carries 3/4 length baseball tees; comfortable, sturdy and colorful baseball tees. The white torso reflects the sun, while the sleeves offer both a hint of color and arm protection. I've been wearing a rotation of these all season long.
Still,
I secretly wish the store were set up like an auto-mat. I dread dealing with the distracted and unfriendly staff, who will completely ignore you as they ring your purchase. I've been by for tees several times, and the service is always the same. Seriously, I have more fun visiting the DMV.
Take a pill people. -

Hey, it's an American Apparel in Williamsburg - how apropos!
Actually, I really like American Apparel. Despite their skeevy ads and even skeevier company owner, they make a good product at an affordable price that I can't seem to stop buying. I like the design of the chain's stores, with items arranged by color - this has always really appealed to me for some reason. This location in Williamsburg is larger than some you might find in Manhattan, and it's actually never been crowded when I've been inside. The staff is friendly and the store is well-stocked. It's such a hipster cliche...yet I can't keep myself from buying wardrobe staples at this place.Listed in: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

American Apparel in general is an all right store. The clothes are pretty, the colours are fantastic, though I will agree that the prices could come down a notch.
HOWEVER, I absolutely adore this location. I've been to several American Apparels since moving to the city and this one has not only the nicest layout (it's so open and welcoming!), but I find the people that work here to be the friendliest and more accomodating. I've never been in (and I'm in a lot since I live in the area) and not been greeted warmly by someone who works there, even if they are busy. Whether or not I actually find something I like or want to buy, the girls that work here are always so friendly and helpful and it just is a nice exoperience, especially compared to those of other locations I've seen.
And I do love my new loooonnnggg chiffon skirt! -

AA is pretty standard - everyone knows what they carry here so I don't need to go in to details.
The reason I give it 5 stars is solely because it is huge and spacious - and open late!
No bi-level shopping here.
Ugh- have you been to the one in Flatiron/ US. That's an anxiety attack waiting to happen. -

There are some decent things in AA that don't cost too much, it's just the apathetic, uncommunicative pod people that work in there. You get better service at Duane Reade. After trying to get the young woman with the thousand yard stare to open a dressing room, I go to pay and the cliche skinny white dude covered in tattoos takes both dresses, crumples them into balls and shoves them into a teeny tiny bag.
OK to buy trendy cotton things, just be prepared to endure some of the densest, annoying, non-service shop workers wishing that they were playing in a band instead. -

A warning to people (hipsters) that shop at the Williamsburg American Apparel:
Every time you use your credit card at this store, your number is sent over unsecured Wifi.
That is: Their CC processor is connected via a Netgear router with no MAC filter, WPA, or WEP. Can you believe that? No? I couldn't either. Go there and check it out for yourself.
They also have no public bathroom, so you have to hold it in while your credit card is compromised. -

This AA store is nicely organized, clean, and never crowded. It's probably my favorite location! Another great thing about this location is that there's free parking on the street and I have yet to go when I couldn't find a parking spot. It's open late too.

aa is totally standard, as mentioned in a review below. i give this place 5 stars (this particular location) because the women that work here are SUPER friendly. i needed some bike shorts - they helped me find them in my size and in colors i like. for buying 3 pairs - automatic 15% discount! zing! we'll see how long these last this summer. i can go pretty hard on a pair of shorts.
also, love the dressing rooms here. i've been in aa's that are just asking for someone to see you butt nekkid or in something embarrassing that you thought you could rock but instead made you look like a sausage in a too tight sausage casing. this place has doors, plenty of mirrors, solid hangers for your pocketbook and good lighting. zing! i will no longer hate on aa as i have in the past. because it looks like they really do have some staples that might fit me. still wish their XL was really an XL tho. ;D
