Just finished a trip through Brown's Canyon with American Adventure Expeditions and can't recommend them highly enough!

This was my first time rafting out in Colorado, but I've been out east a few times (Gauley & New River) and this is the best rafting I've ever done. Our guide (Dan H.) was awesome! He had the perfect mix of safety-conciousness and adventure. The trip itself gorgeous through some of the most gorgeous scenery in the state - the only downside is that the water is COLD. (Be prepared to bring or rent a wetsuit!)

I definitely plan on coming out with these guys again for a more advanced trip!

I've been whitewater rafting many times over the years, and this was one of my worst experiences. We arrive to complete chaos in the office, only to find out that our Royal Gorge trip was cancelled due to high water. Unlike other companies, we weren't offered any type of credit or even the option to select another trip. We were just told that they reserve the right to change the trip any time. This has never been my experience in the past.

Then, the person handing out the life jackets and helmets, Patrick, was completely rude. We normally wear our own life jackets, but were told we couldn't use our life jackets due to "their insurance". This would have been fine, but this is the way it was said: "Are you plan on wearing those?" To which I said yes. "Well, you can't. Our insurance doesn't allow it." Couldn't you have phrased that in a nicer way?

But, the experience keeps getting better. I was given an extremely old life jacket that I feared was just going to fall apart, and it was really loose no matter how much I tightened it. Even our guide commented that it was loose. Plus, the life jacket smelled like cat urine. It was disgusting.

After the trip, we wished to buy the CD of images, but we were split into two groups. Usually, you get all the pictures for all the boats on the CD. I did this for our last trip and the trip before. Not at this company! They sell each boat individually so our group had to purchase two CDs.

The only saving grace (which is why they get 2 stars) was our guide, Alex. He was awesome.

You would do better to try another company before this one.

What a great, well-run outfit!  Our full-day trip got a little tweaked, due to the high water levels of the river, so going thru the Gorge was cancelled.  But they put us in further upriver and we still had a great trip.  The guides were fun, but responsible and the gear was relatively new and in good shape.  I particularly appreciated the wetsuits available for the 45 deg. water!  And the front office staff were friendly and helpful.

The other great thing that sets these guys apart from the other outfits is that they are ON the river, so you're not spending as much time on the bus.  Overall great experience - totally recommend them!

So this company has two offices, one in Buena Vista, CO and the other outside of Canon City, CO by the Royal Gorge.

I was fortunate enough to jump on a groupon deal for this place. BOGO, which turned out to be a killer deal.

Seeing some of the other rafting operations coming in I was a bit weary about going for my first rafting trip, but arriving at this wonderful facility and seeing the crew I was convinced it would be fun.

The trip didn't go without a hitch, I had the opportunity to save a guy who fell out of his raft early on and see my instructor terrified at one point as we slammed into the famous wall crusher rapid.

I felt safe and in control the whole time, being wide eyed, and with a smile on the whole time. I will definitely be back for more fun in the future!

If your interested in a White Water Rafting experience check out American Adventure Expeditions (AAE) is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Downtown Denver.  It's a pretty scenic drive.  You can make a full day and stop at a winery or the Royal George Bridge on the way to AAE.

I made reservations at the last minute for my friend and I to go white water rafting. We previously bought a pre-paid coupon and decided to use it this Memorial day weekend.  Although most slots were full we did manage to get a 3pm reservation. I would recommend the 3pm slot because it's later in the day and not too cold like the 9am and not too hot  out like the noon slot.

This was my first experience rafting and boy was it an awesome day! We had no idea when we got there we would be on the class 4-5 trip which is hitting more waves.  It was so much fun! I don't think I could do anything less than a class 4-5 in the future. But if your scared of hitting big waves don't start at the 4-5.  I happen to be a good swimmer and love water so I wasn't scared at all even after a girl fell out of the boat.  The girl was fine and got right back on.

The staff at AAE was so friendly and very helpful.

A group of us went down "The Narrows" and "The Fractions" on Wednesday.  It was crazy!  The rapids were huge and the water was fast.  We had an awesome guide, Bre, and the lunch that they cooked was delicious.  We are planning on going back  in a couple of weeks to do "The Numbers."  I highly recommend this outfitter.  Not only did they keep us safe even when we did end up in the water, but we had a GREAT time!  Bre was willing to take it as far as we wanted and we had one heck of a ride.  We will be back.

Just did the half-day Royal Gorge trip this past weekend, and it was one of the best rafting trips I've taken.  Obviously, most of that whitewater fun was a result of the natural assets of the Royal Gorge, but the company had a few bright spots as well.

First, their building was right on the river, which meant that we just walked down to the river and put our rafts in the water without having to sit through a boring bus ride.  Second, even though it was a busy Saturday, our group of three got a raft to ourselves, which was very nice (although my body is still tired from all the paddling - we did manage to pass a bunch of the rafts with more people in them though).  Third, our guide, John, was awesome - full of good stories from his 53 years of life, and skilled at maneuvering the rapids.  He told us at the beginning, "If we hit a rock, it's because I meant for it to happen - more fun that way."

One of the other rafts in the group got stuck on a raft for a long time, and two different rafters ended up being part of the Arkansas River swim team, but in both instances all of the guides seemed to work together well to fix the problem and rescue the swimmers.

Hope I get to go back to raft the Royal Gorge again soon!

This company is great! I recently went on a full day trip through the Royal Gorge with them and had a really nice time. My guide was personable and the staff was very patient. It was great that they have a pavilion right on the side of the river (they are the only company that has a facility right on the bank) so lunch was a lot better then the cold sandwich and bag of chips that you normally get with other companies; it was hamburgers and hotdogs. Having the break in the middle of the day to re-group and go to the bathroom was awesome. There were a few minor hiccoughs with transportation arrangements but that was due mostly in part to unruly customers. This company is very safety conscious and the rental equipment was all in good condition. The prices here seemed slightly higher then other companies, but you definitely get convenience and IMO a much more enjoyable trip!

Wow!!! now that was a great time!  We were part of the 10th annual Class Five Chaos Group  100 people in our group rafting that day in the Royal Gorge.  Mike the owner, I believe was our guide and had great stories to go along with the perfect control of the boat, even when our left side couldn't get it together....haha.  There was not one boat that wasn't laughing and having fun the entire trip.
