I stayed with Amelia on election night in 2000, when we went all night without knowing who won, so the whole experience is wrapped up with a lot more baggage than it should be. Anyway, I love Amelia and her funky little inn. That said, it is not for everybody. As her website says, she does not welcome children, pets, bigots or fanatics, but anyone who is looking for a little bit of the "freaky and weird" is right at home. I stayed there with button-down military-industrial droids (me), drifting hippies, retired winnebago nomads, and a bunch of others all looking to avoid the nameless corporate bland chain hotel hell. The rooms are very nice, comfy and surprisingly quiet for a downtown warehouse local, her food is fabulous, varied and unexpected, and the company is first rate. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a walk on the wild side.
