Friday Hours 11-2, Kitchen closing at 1am.
It's an average Fish Fry.   It was nice to sit inside as Amelia's can open it's windows....rare for a bar. The down side is the fish can be chewy where it gets thin and the batter is thicker.  Beer batter I think.  The upside is that you can have as many fish pieces as you like.  Three is plenty, but I didn't have many home made potatoes chips and got one more piece. The slaw is creamy and the marbled bread normal. The bartenders are friendly and everyone seems to enjoy working there. The Fish Fry is above average.   Less greasy than average.  Home made chips are tasty.

I'm not sure if I should review this as a restaurant or as a bar. But if I average the two together, I figure it earns an A-OK rating.

I've been to this place a few times. Most recently was a couple of weeks ago. I had a hankering for a fish fry and had heard theirs was pretty good from a friend.  Well, it was good. It was more than good, I'd say it was pretty darn delicious and a value too! $9.99 gets you some large pieces of beer battered cod and the usual accoutrements. Oh and did I mention it was all you can eat? Yeah, that's becoming increasingly rare and when you do find an all you can eat fish fry rarely is it cod.  Not that I took advantage because I barely finished the fish I had on my initial serving. It was a lot. So thumbs up here cause it was delicious. My girlfriend had the shrimp and perch. She also thought it was excellent and a steal at around $13.

Concerning the bar area. It's passable. It's a nice bar area. The people seem nice. The service is either fast or not depending on how busy they are and who's working. Strength of drinks is only average and they are a little pricey for the potency.  So I stick with beer.  I'm not sure if they still have it, but they used to have a second shift happy hour. One thing of note.  This bar often hosts karaoke. Every time I've been there they've had Karaoke.

I will definitely be back to try the crab legs! Thanks for the tip Kathy!

    Fish Fry Review:

All you can eat Cod or Smelt for $9.99. We had the cod. The dinner comes with rye bread and fries. It is nicely beer battered and good size portions. 2nd helping came out within a few minutes. Service was good too. I didn't have room for dessert because I ate 5 large pieces of fish if that tells you anything. Dinner for 2 including drinks and tip was $29.65. Ranks right up there with Erv's Mug and might be better!

Ameila's Restaurant is a small place with an airplane theme. Many of the Air Force base reservists/employees are there at the end of the work day giving the airplane theme more authenticity.

The bartenders are very friendly and the service is great. The food is your typical bar-style options but they are done well. The real surprises come from their wonderful pizzas. They can match any Italian restauraunt around.

The crab legs are a specialty that brings many people in, although I am not a seafood fan, those who do order them love them. Did I say bar-style food? Yes, there are the usual burgers, fries, onion rings, and Friday fish frys which are all good. And the prices are very reasonable.

We moved closer to Amelia's about 4 years ago and after living in Milwaukee almost all my 60 yrs we finally walked in the door.  After our first visit we have been regulars ever since.

The menu items are all very nice but we usually end up there for their Ribs special (Thursdays).  Fall off the bone tender every time.  They also do a very nice fish fry and fried chicken (not as good as Gold Rush -- but still very good)

The only negative on the horizon is their coleslaw.  It seems very erratic.  Sometimes it's wonderful, other times not so much.  Sometimes it tastes of horseradish, other times not.

Several nights a week they have live music,  it's a pleasant atmosphere with lots of patrons in and out.  There's a group of long time waitstaff with one or two short-timers from time to time -- but the longevity of staff says a lot about how they treat people.

Give 'em a try, you wont' be sorry.
