Review from Dan R.
This is a 'wait-and-see' review. The Plantation is undergoing some huge changes and rennovations since Omni bought it.
All of the locals I spoke with rave about the Omni take over. The general opinion was that the previous owners did not manage the property well and after losing the Bosch & Lomb tennis tournament they really went down hill. Omni has pumped in new business bookings, upgrades to the property and services according to the locals.
Unfortunately, while we were there the pool was under renovation (over a year and a half to complete I am told) so we could not really enjoy it. Hence, the wait-and-see. -

I had a meeting in the conference center, so we stayed at the hotel. As previous posts have said, the resort is now owned by Omni and is currently undergoing major renovations, including building a pool. The oceanfront rooms views were great, but there was a view of a gold course in front of mine. I would prefer to see just beach.
Anyway, I thought it was a little pretentious. The property is gated. When we first arrived, they make you go to a separate building to "check in", which was a total PIA. Then the clerk gave us wrong directions to get to the hotel, and we ended up driving into the private residential section. The property is heavily wooded and not very well marked, and I imagine finding your way around in the dark might be challenging. Finally made it to the hotel. The attendants were extremely helpful. Parking is a pain, because the lots are down the hill and the best spots are reserved for valet parking. We dropped off the luggage, parked, and then walked back up to the hotel, which also requires a walk up stairs. If you have trouble walking or going up steps, this hotel is not for you! You have a security tag to get on and off the property.
We ordered drinks at the bar, and were charged for those plus a 20% service fee, then tax on top of that. I suppose this is the norm at a "resort".
The conference center is still being built, but our meeting went very well and the food was excellent. We had a reception at Walker's Landing (overlooking a marsh area), but the noseeum's will get you if you don't use DEET. Luckily there was a screened porch. Sunset views were amazing.
Towels and chairs are comp while the pool is being built, and the beach is lovely. My friend had some health issues while staying there, and the staff were extremely helpful.
Better signage would be helpful. -

This is our second stay here at Amelia Island Plantation..also known as an Omni Resort. This site isnt quite describing the Plantation completely. It is a hotel/Resort but you can also rent Villas. We have stayed in the Villas twice now in two different locations. We just can't say enough about it. Although the hotel is being rennovated, it will be fabulous when it is finished! The area has so much. you can rent bikes, golf carts segways, kyiaks, there are so many walking/riding paths in beautiful shaded areas that lead to park sites, the marsh, it goes on and on. There are several on site restaurants of all price and tastes, a wonderful gym, tennis courts and of course the golfing. It is also pet friendly as well as children. Then there are the pools, each Villa unit has it's own and when the hotel is finished that pool will be fantastic. The beach is large, clean and walkable for miles, with calm waters and you can rent chairs and umbrellas at the hotel area. The town nearby with lots of other fun things to see and do is Fernandia, about 6 miles, lots of restaurants, bars, right on the water. The website is http://omniameliaislan... go to the site to get pictures, I'm telling you this place is a best kept secret!!

I love, love, love this place.
Plenty of shops for gifts, a food market that has almost everything in it, in the food market they also have a cafe with indoor/outdoor seating options. There's also a spa that you could be pampered at, it's beautiful and soothing.
Depending what time of the year you visit, you could witness the turtles come in and lay their eggs on the beach in the early morning hours!
The condo we stayed at had option for cleaning to come by.
You could brave the humidity and walk or ride to the shops or different beach locations or wait for the shuttles that came by every 15 minutes.
We stayed close to the golf course which had a gym across the way. We were able to use the facilities a few times and work off some food.
It is a beautiful place to for vacation or too live! They do have houses within the resort to live!!! -

Classic club like place. The food was good and offered a variety of size portions. Which is great if you are traveling with older people, or you are watching your intake.
Service was very good, we enjoyed our meal there. -

Attended a wedding here but did not actually stay at the resort so can't comment on the rooms, lodging. As a wedding location, it seemed quite nice. The chapel where the wedding was held was beautiful - clean lines, very modern space. The highlight of the wedding though was the reception afterwards at "Walker's Landing." This was on the edge of the resort and was a wood framed large room that overlooked a bay. It also had a nice sized portico and a screened in porch people could have drinks on. As the sun set lots of people stood outside watching. Very romantic. It was hot as hell though so most people stayed inside. As the party continued, they dimmed the lights and the whole room had a romantic glow. Food was pretty good but whose been to a wedding where you've walked away and said the food was fantastic. YOU cook for 250. :)
I didn't hear great things about the rooms here, etc. from the people staying at the resort but if you're thinking about having a wedding here, the facilities for the ceremony at party, etc. were top notch. -

Beautiful place, but pricey. I'm all for spending nothing on the place and just spending all my time out on a vacation, but there's nothing to complain about here.

Amelia Island Plantation is a beautiful area in the very north eastern coastline of Florida, just outside of Jacksonville. It is the quintessential North East Florida beach experience, with one half of the Plantation backing up to the marshes and the other half facing the Atlantic Ocean. It is full of winding roads lined with trees, wonderful beach front resorts, and lots of shops and restaurants to walk to that make this a great place to vacation or live.
Some of the best activities in the area are the paved tree shaded nature trails great for walking or biking, a great way to spend the day, the ocean [obviously], the spa [luxury], walking through the shops, the outstanding golf courses that weave throughout the Plantation grounds, and then going out at night for a nice dinner and hitting up one of the bars for some drinks.
Amelia Island is a community, but it is nice and relaxing and definitely has a getting-away-from-it-all feel. Despite being near to Fernandina and Jacksonville, it feels isolated and serene.
I highly recommend this place. It will rejuvenate your soul. -

Stayed at the Inn on 11/10-11/12. It was a generally unsatisfying experience in terms of the hotel. Bed was not very comfy, foam pillows were spongey, and comforter felt pilly. It sounds like a train going by when housekeeping wheels a cart past your door (at midnight no less!!) because of the outdoor tiled hallways. Soft rubber wheels would solve the problem. In general the hotel could take its cleanliness up a notch. It felt to us like inattentive management could be the root cause. The poolside dining was slow and the cesear salad was swimming in dressing, yuk. Next time we stay at the Ritz.

We scheduled a special vacation for the family, decided on Amelia Island (not my choice, what can you do, family) and started looking for options, found the Amelia Island Plantation. At over $400/night . . . we expected quite a bit. Huge mistake.
We made reservations at the Inn, spa, golf, etc. When we arrived we found out that they had no rooms at the inn, that we would be staying down the road (15 minute walk) from the inn in condos. These condo buildings are old, dirty conversions. Our closet came with mop, dust pan and broom. We requested towels which were not in the room when we arrived. The cleaning lady was wearing jean shorts, tee shirt and sun glasses on her head. Not to be a snob but at a nice place, one does not need to worry who they are opening up the door for. Safe was a lock and key so we were walking around with an actual key. There were numerous stains on the walls and doors. Our reservation was for a king size bed (you know, married and all) but they gave us 2 full size beds. Wife who checked us in asked for a king size bed but was told not available. I called from the room, turns out that a king size bed IS available. So we move from disgusting room to another disgusting room. BTW, my older parents, b/c they drove in, had to drag up their own luggage. We go down to the pool. There are no towels, no service folks, no nobody, just a bunch of guests. We asked some of those guests where they got the towels, they explain one must walk down to the inn where we thought we were staying which is roughly 15 minutes away. So . . . we don't get towels on our luxury hotel.
We head to the spa. Hysterical. What they have is a men's room. 2 dirty showers across from the toilets. I put on an old short robe with some old dirty flip flops that are not cleaned. The shower had an old rag around the handle. Nasty.
Walk out into the waiting room, i.e., the hallway. No private waiting room, just me, in my short robe, in a hallway with a bunch of people walking by. They offered me a cookie which was in a Tupperware bin. Odd. Got a message and that part was fine.
Golf was good, interesting courses.
Staff, although sort of dim and dull, were quite friendly and attentive/positive about everything. Really nice people.
There are walking trails around which are quite lovely as well.
The gym is roughly 15 minutes from everything, small, dirty but did have new equipment.
We eventually complained enough that there were magically able to find 3 rooms together at the inn. Again the inn nice but it is no luxury hotel. Just a nice place.
All the food was good but insanely overpriced. Silly overpriced. Complete joke.
My wife and I were quoted $88.00 to get a ride in the hotel shuttle from the airport. We tried to get on but it was booked so we called a cab. The cab was $47.00 flat fee. Mind blowing. I asked the front desk people why I would spend twice as much for extra stops to share a ride on a bus. She explained that she knows but they want to make extra money this way.
If you keep your expectations as low as possible . . . and you have money to burn . . . and you just don't care and the sun is enough, this is the place for you. If you do care about any of the above . . . please . . . there are 1,000 nicer places for 1/2 the price not trying to ding you at every turn. It is astonishing that I am not reading 100's of negative reviews of this place. -
Review from Emily M.
Overpriced bizarre little fake town.
The wedding I attended here was beautiful and I loved the overall location of the wedding: first on the beach, then the reception took place around the luxurious pool. Beautifully designed and planned.
The rest of the this place definitely leaves something to be desired.
Really overpriced for what you get, and the food is bland at best. I ate at 2 of the restaurants, and I have to say I was almost disappointed with the quality.
The pool areas at several of the villas are really quite nice, however the villa I stayed in is only pretty b/c of the ocean view.
The staff was hit or miss. One security guard and one "tram" driver were incredibly nice and helpful. One "tram" driver almost accused us of being there illegally--meaning we were not guests.
It's hard to complain too much about a place that will let you drink at their bar until 2am and them drive you to your villa with a smile on their face, though!Listed in: Emily was here.

Very friendly and attentive staff. Every greets you with a smile. Overall the rooms are just a bit above average, but they have some nice touches. My room had a flat screen TV and an iHome alarm clock that I could use to dock my iPod. The ocean views are really nice (only about 100 yards from the beach.)

Review from Barbara B.
Boston, MA
So, we arrived at the Plantation for a wedding after we flew in from Boston. At first we thought the place looked great. My tune quickly changed. We were put a mile down the road in the "Tennis Villas" away from where all my friends were. I called to see if we could be moved but we were told that the Inn was sold out. It ended up working out fine because the trolley service was awesome and we were able to get were we needed to be on time. Thank God!
Then comes the SPA. I have never been more angry after leaving that place. The bride had set up some champagne and food for all the girls and I was able to visit for a time with my friends and enjoy a glass and some laughs. I was escorted to my treatment and was ready for some relaxation. After a time, the woman giving me my pedi asked if I wanted something to drink and I said, YES, I'll have another champagne! I sat there looking forward to some bubbly and then two women came back, gave me water and said I was not permitted to have another glass of champagne "because of the Liability" I was told. I swear I wasn't in the least intoxicated! Honestly I was horrified and then sat through the rest of my pedi wondering what the heck I did wrong! It was the most un-relaxing experience! I spoke with the manager on my way out and rather than offering me some sort of compensation, he thanked me for my feedback and sent me on my way.
Now the pool bar! It opened at 12 noon every day. You couldn't even get a glass of water before without calling room service. Very annoying if you are an early riser. When they did open, you would have been better off ordering room service it took so long to even get the attention of the kids running the place. I sat there forever, they were right in front of me and NO EYE CONTACT, let alone, an "I'll be right with you" HORRIBLE service. And here is the kicker...everything is way over priced AND they include a 20% gratuity "for your conveinience" on EVERYTHING. How's that for motivation? No wonder the service sucked! Totally not worth it! But I guess when you go for a wedding you have no choice right? Thumbs way down for this place! -

We come down to Amelia Island every summer, in July, for the Georgia Society Healthcare Pharmacy Meeting. This place is AWESOME! Rooms are large and clean with soft towels, robes & coffee machines. Just wish there were mini fridges and microwaves, like some of the "less expensive" Hotels include in their pricing - instead of the "stocked" mini fridges that are now included! The dining room has a great breakfast - with made to order omelets and a buffet of fresh fruits, grits, oatmeal, sausage, bacon, salmon, etc. There is also a buffet of fresh daily breads and muffins! check-in this year was made easier by allowing us to "check-in" via on line prior to our arrival. Just had to go by and pick up our key! We always valet park @ $ 15 p/day but well worth it as the Valet Guys are ALWAYS so sweet and friendly not to mention how helpful if you should need directions, information, etc. You just need to remember to have some small bills available for tipping as they are so worth it! This next year the Hotel and Pools will be undergoing some renovations as well as new rooms being added - so be sure to call ahead to make sure the amenities that you may desire will be available!

So much potential, but unfortunately not fully realized. For some, this could be four stars. It has a decent beach (the quiet, more desolate North Florida type), decent food, an attractive lobby, and polite staff. The rooms are decent - plain, somewhat simple, with direct ocean views - but not overly sumptuous. This is no Ritz, for sure; but the off season price of $115 per night makes it hard to complain too loudly.

Spectacular views, friendly star with a "plain Jane" room. Had a wonderful relaxing stay but wasn't wowed. We didn't partake in any of the upscale restaurants and maybe that is where they thrive. Honestly the price for the view is why I'm giving it four stars.

One of our fave all-time places. We've been here last 3 summers & stayed at Inn twice & a villa once. Always clean (although this tone we've had issues with dust & mold at the inn - one child is asthmatic so it's been a real problem). Always something to do. People are wonderful. Food is ok. Lots of activity options. Beautiful area. Plan on coming back every year.

I had an amazing experience at AIP. We came here last minute after a trip to Jacksonville Beach turned south when a golfing tournament was occurring and hotels were booked. We got a special rate of 159/nt, I think bc it was the off season (May), and compared to what I have heard others pay- we lucked out! The room was amazing, we had beach views. The pools were amazing. The staff was friendly. The beach is right in front of you. not to mention there are tons of shops and great food at all the restaurants that we ate at. The island itself is so cute, I never wanted to leave. You don't have to worry about driving anywhere and its just a slower pace of life. The ocean links course has holes on the beach and its just amazing. I want to go back! So definitely stay here during the off-season (its less crowded and rates are cheaper).
