Completely solid and consistent middle-eastern type cuisine.
The felafel is quite excellent!
Chicken kabobs have been moist and nicely cooked with fantastic flavors.
Shawarma, and Kefta have been very tasty, moist and enjoyable.
The baklava is very nice as well.
I personally did not care for the overall taste of the hummus.
The folks doing the cooking and prepping really do seem to care about what they are doing.
Everything seems to be quite fresh, and flavorful without being heavy... sometimes (at other places) these charred delights can be so over marianted or over flavored that it turns into a big heavy deal of a meal.. not so here, the flavors are very well balanced and dont leave you gasping for air and water before crashing into a coma.
Definitely plan on returning...
A little further for me than Chickpea, but that food is inedible, so that point is moot.
Pretty much a togo place.. -

When I walked in here I was so in love with this place...I read all of the other reviews and I was really excited. I honestly never thought I would be giving this place one star. I am still scratching my head, trying to figure out what went wrong here.
It started off kind of bad...the guy behind the counter made me feel like I was annoying him. There was no love felt at all...I tried a little small talk to find out about the food and restaurant but was totally shot down with silence. If you know me, everyone typically talks to me but not the guy behind this counter. I was fine...I will survive but I do like a personal touch. Customer service goes a long way with me.
I ordered the lentil soup, chicken shawarma and falafel.
I tried ordering 2 falafel and the guy behind the counter told me that they only sold them in orders of 3. I was like fine but in my defense it clearly shows I can order one falafel for .55 cents on the menu board behind him. Nowhere on the menu board does it say I have to order 3. If you need the .55 cents that bad, then fine...it is not going to break my bank. I am just sad because they were not even good. Probably the worse falafel I have ever had and you forced me to order a third one. If this is your policy, then take some time out and fix the menu board on the wall to say: "Must order 3!" This will clear up any confusion for me the customer.
Everyone raves about the lentil soup...I was not that impressed. I will say that it was tasty but it was a little thin and watery. If I am comparing this soup to other restaurants with the same food, then this was not very good. I will say it was the best thing that I had here, but at this time that is not very high in my opinion.
The chicken shawarma was a really terrible. The flat pita bread was so chewy. It was a struggle to bite into it. It was Monday...maybe it was stale but it was not fresh at all. Now the price seems great but you get what you pay for and that is not much shawarma. Yeah this thing was tiny and not packed full of ingredients. Again if I compare this chicken shawarma to similar restaurants, then this is the worse chicken shawarma I have ever had in the world.
I am so sad because I do not know what I missed. I was telling someone the other day that thanks to Yelp I can find amazing restaurants because I use the reviews of other Yelpers. I walked in so excited...but walked out sad. -
Review from Rob R.
This place hits it out of the park. I don't know why that expression got stuck in my head after eating here, since I don't like baseball all that much. But I do want baseball fans to get how good this place is. Non-baseball fans can read the rest.
Sometimes it's good to come into a place with low expectations. From the outside it looks like just another dingy fast food takeout joint that I walk past on my way to my pedestrian commuter standbys Podhalanka and Pizza Metro. But it's immaculately clean on the inside, and though it's not exactly a date joint, the prices testify that not a dime (or not too many dimes) is wasted on ambience and the bright yellow walls which say, "eat quickly!" Another quick, affordable option like this is very much needed, on the fringes of the much-hyped and trendy stretch of Division Street in Uke Village.
The food is solid, actually surprisingly good. My first visit I got the chicken schawarma, and if it took a little longer to be served, it's because everything was fresh- the chicken was well cooked and tumericky, and the onions and parsley were crisp and cool. Second time, I got the lentil soup, which plays John Stockton to the Karl Malone of the falafel sandwich - which was soft and freshly fried, clearly not hanging out losing flavor and texture in a wire-frame prison.
I don't like basketball all that much either, though, and am much more moved by sounds. Back to the ambience, they've got a TV here but the volume is turned thoughtfully down- much to the benefit of anyone with compelling friends and/or an active inner life. I always, always notice music in restaurants, and they absolutely nailed it here- actual, factual middle eastern music with ouds and doumbeks- music to eat schawarma, falafel, and lentils by.Listed in: Milwaukee Avenue

Food was bland and cold. Tabouli Salad was all parsley, don't even know how that was possible. Delivery took forever. Would never order from here again. Buyer beware.

Though I'd hate to pull the I'm Middle Eastern and know good Lebanese/Middle Eastern food card, I was majorly disappointed by how bad the food was here. In fairness to them, I only ordered a falafel sandwich and tabbouleh. The tabbouleh was one of the worst I've had in my life. Lacking in dressing, tomatoes, burghul, and mint (basically just chopped parsley with a sprinkle of onions). The falafel in the falafel sandwich were not that flavorful and were pretty soggy, no where near how they should be crispy. We got take out and the service was fast.
Perhaps the meat/kabobs are better, but if their tabbouleh and falafel are any indication of the quality of their food, I don't know how this place has a lot of 4-5 stars. -

This review is most based on their delivery service. Last week, I had a delivery from here. The food was promptly on time.
First to begin with, their online site / menu looks awesome but since I was ordering through grub hub, they did not have the same amount of things available through grub hub's menu.
I had the hummus, baba ghanouj and the combination platter. I have to say, everything was a disappointment apart from the chicken. The rice was very plain and the koftas not marinated properly. There are definitely better places in the city where you spend your money on middle eastern food and I suggest we all spend it there next time !! -

LOVE THIS FOOD! I am amazed with the ability of this place to make me love mediterranean food! I never really cared for it, but was starving and stopped in there by accident one day.
Man did it hit the spot! The chicken just about melted in my mouth. It was the Schwarma sandwich, and it was not too expensive. I could feel in my stomach that it was made by someone who knew what they were doing. I am officially addicted.
Super homey atmosphere, love the cultural decor.
The family is normal, just like any family, some people want to be there, some don't, but hey all appreciate your business and it has nothing to do with you so take the gold and leave. Your stomach will thank you.
I recommend delivery, It is freaky fast like jimmy johns. And they RICE, OMG I don't know what it is, but I seriously dream about it. ENJOY! -

Whoa whoa whoa... I haven't written a review for this place yet?? I should be d'Elited for this oversight. I'm the Duke for Jebus sake!
Ok, if you haven't come here before, then do yourself a favor and visit asap. The food is super tasty and the prices are awesome! If you read through my reviews, I'll usually try to emphasize a need for a balance between taste/quality and value/price. This place has it both in spades!
I could literally eat their: hummus, falafels, kafta sandwiches, and shawarma sandwiches every day of the week, without getting tired of them. Plus! With their prices, I actually could eat there every day! Good bye doing dishes! Ok, maybe not, because I don't think eating the same exact thing every day is the most healthy thing. At any rate, I'm so glad this place is right around the corner from me. Woo! -

I was looking for a good sharwarma place. I should have known better after reading the name of the place. The chicken shawarma was good but it was more like chicken kabobs. If you want good sharawarma I suggest going to Dawali.

*Review for delivery only*
I think I should have been Middle Eastern. Because I could eat the deliciousness of kabobs, shawarma, hummus, and baba ghanouj every single day of my life. So I'm always on the search for new places. And after reading Yelp reviews, I decided to give Ameer Kabob a go for delivery.
Good choice. We ordered an assortment of kabobs--chicken, beef, and kafta. The meat was well-seasoned, incredibly flavorful, and quite juicy. And while rice can be *bleh* most of the time at other Middle Eastern places, theirs was cooked well and took on the flavors of the meat quite nicely.
Only knock has got to be for the hummus. I am a hummus fiend. If I had to die death by hummus, I would die happy. But this hummus did not do it for me: it had no flavor whatsoever and was extremely runny. Ick. But I'll turn my head the other way given the tastiness of the rest.
Delivery was estimated at 45-60 minutes, and arrived within a half hour. Wow! And not only did it arrive quickly, it arrived steaming hot. Literally, I almost scalded my face from the steam when I opened the containers. Now that's how you do delivery.
And for two full dinners, extra skewers, salads, hummus, and delivery fees, our total came to $29. Yup, that's right. I had enough food to make a lunch and a huge dinner the next day as well. I believe the most expensive dish on the menu is about $10.
Work on your hummus, Ameer Kabob, and we will be five-star friends quite soon.Listed in: Delivered.

I'll start this off by saying I hate the 2-3 block radius around where this place is. I never walk south of Division on Milwaukee for any reason. On my way to this restaurant, there were some people fighting in the middle of the sidewalk. Fighting I can deal with. You turn your head and keep walking and hope they don't notice your presence, a-la the raptor from "Jurassic Park."
On the way home from this place, we walked by a car that was surrounded by 4 guys wearing suits who had guns with laser sights on them. They were breaking into a car that had a person inside of it. I was terrified. They turned out to be police officers. Turns out the guy inside the car was doing something... Lewd.
Regardless, this restaurant delivers, so you don't have to deal with that type of stuff.
The kabobs are awesome. I had the combo one that lets you try one of each. I'm not sure which one was which (other than the chicken, which was obviously the one that looked like chicken), but all three were awesome.
I also tried the falafel sandwich, which was fair, but lacked flavor all around, and is the reason there's no fifth star on this review.
This place is like a hidden gem in an iffy neighborhood. Then again, so is the restaurant next door to it.
Highly recommend if you want a kabob fix. It's really really cheap as well, which is always a plus nowadays. -

I had the lentil soup, falafel and my friend had the kefta kabob.
I was hoping this would be better than Sultan's Market (even though, I do enjoy Sultan's Market - esp when I'm super hungry) but it was kind of just so-so. I've had much tastier kabobs, wish it was juicier - it was kind of tough. The falafel was just okay. I kind of got sick of them after awhile. Lentil soup was definitely good. I would skip this place though and spend a bit more money somewhere else better.
The lady that served us seemed pissed at her life. Not a good look. Also - get some decor up in this hizzouse please?! Maybe turn on some lively music and turn off that stupid channel on the tv that people cannot understand. They need to spruce it up - it seems so dead and sad. My advice - if you want kabobs and what ever, order takeout bc its depressing sitting in this place. You start thinking the cashier lady is out to get you, is giving you death stares and hates your guts. -

I picked up some food here on the suggestion of my sister. I came back the following week.
The food is fresh, tasty and well-seasoned. I've tried the chicken kabobs with rice pilaf, hummus, tabbouleh salad, combo kabob entree and baklava. Everything is great! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the tabbouleh. I like mine to have more of that wheat stuff. This one was a bit more green than I like, but everyone's got their own tastes, right?
The baklava is amazing! It's very flaky and fresh - not hard and crusty like some others that I've had. It's almost like a croissant. I'm sure every time I come here, I will continue to get the baklava.
Yusef (I hope that's how he spells his name) is extremely nice, attentive and has a good sense of humor. He remembered me after only having been there once and made the next visit really pleasant. I like it when places have really good food and really good service. Sometimes I have to put up with crappy waitstaff in order to get a good meal. Not here.
If you like Middle Eastern food, you will love Ameer Kabob. It's not a full scale restaurant like Reza's, so there is not a huge selection. But their prices are reasonable and what they do have is well-executed. I'll make sure to try something new and give an update. Maybe something with falafel. -
Review from Iris T.
My friend and I were having Middle Eastern food cravings and couldn't find any near his place so to Ameer Kabob we ventured. We got there around 10:35 pm (abt 25 minutes before they were supposed to close at 11 pm) and they were already closing up! Fortunately, they still took our orders for two beef shwarmas. But then we had a new dilemma: where are we going to eat these?! -- esp since they had all but turned off the lights at the restaurant.
Anyway, weird earlier-than-advertised closing time aside, after having a bite or two of my shwarma, the verdict is this: Ameer Kabob is not scared of spices. The shwarma was fine and it hit the spot.. although I venture to say that there are probably better shwarma-places in the greater Chicago area. -

This place is pretty decent. It's a lot better than most of the local neighborhood options but not as good as the joints up Kedize Ave. The rice looks bland and unimpressive but it's actually really good. The falafel is tasty but they didn't include and tahini which is just wrong. However, they did include pickles with the falafel plate which kind of makes up for it. The Kafta is alright and the shwarmas (chicken and beef) were pretty tasty. It also held up really well for take out. So, when I'm gotta have a Middle-Eastern fix real bad, I'll get in the car and head up Kedzie but when I'm just kinda in the mood, Ameer Kabob will do. Ha, ha... poet and I didn't know it!
Oh! BTW - I totally forgot... the baklava is maybe the best I've ever had. Totally forgot about that. Now they get four stars! -
Review from Laura G.
This place is right around the corner from me, and very reasonably priced. It's tough not to pop in to grab a chicken kabob on the way off the blue line.
The beef is not so good, but the chicken shawarma and the warm, soft pitas are great. The hummus is pretty good as well. -
Review from Noah R.
Chicago, IL
Good clean Middle Eastern fun. Hummus is delicious, drinkable. On your way out, try to get them to refill your soda bottle with hummus. Very tasty, warm, soft, dense falafel (I've never described falafel before).
The restaurant doesn't have an authentic feel though, it seems too clean almost, just like the food...too safe. The menu is very Americanised. This does not detract from the taste however.
Great service. Prices are so reasonable. I didn't try the meat...because I went there wanting a lamb shwarma pita. Sorry, no lamb...hence the 4 stars. Beef or chicken only (both looked delicious from afar though). No whole wheat pitas, no biggie, maybe for some. Overall, delicious cheap Middle Eastern.
Not a great date spot, take her/him to Babylon on Damen (for a cheap date - BYOB) I'll be back, when I'm in the mood for something cleaner than Sultan's Market.
Remember Hummus, soda bottle. -

Considering quality of food for the price, you can't do a whole lot better. While this place isn't exactly a date spot, it would be a good test on a third or fourth date to make sure she can hang. It's counter service and there are a handful of tables and a TV. It was perfect for a weeknight low-key dinner out that doesn't break the bank... There was a little wait for the food, but it was well worth it. You can have a light meal with the salads or eat like a king if you splurge on the most expensive thing on the menu - The Combination Feast - Kafta, Steak, Chicken, perfect rice, grilled veggies, pita.... with tahini and spicy sauce.... mmmm
Just go.. -
Review from Adam M.

I dined at Ameer recently after noticing it's popularity on Yelp. It most definitely does not meet the expectations set by the other reviewers.
Atmosphere: Just a basic layout and takeout counter with a few Arab-themed pieces on the walls. Nothing to write home about, and I didn't expect it to blow me away. The only thing hurting A.K. here was the temperature - it was freezing in the restaurant. I had to dine with my coat on, as it was around 60 degrees F inside. Rating = 2
Service: My friend and I ordered at the counter, a simple and hassle-free process. We then sat, and then had to wait nearly 15 minutes for our Hummus plate to arrive. A few minutes later our falafel and sandwiches arrived. The wait was completely unjustified based on the dishes ordered and the number of other diners in the restaurant (under 4). Rating = 1
Food: The Hummus was completely average. A slightly rougher consistency than I prefer, and was rather bland; I've had better store-bought than this. The amount given seemed rather small for a "Large" order. It also only came with 1 room-temperature pita, cut in half to share. 1 pita is not nearly enough to eat with the hummus - a joke by any standard. Additional pitas merit an extra charge.
Falafel had very good texture and was fresh. It was, however, lacking in flavor - very bland and no hint of any spices, which seems to be a going theme of the dishes here.
The beef shawarma sandwiches were also incredibly mediocre. They were served in a somewhat unique fashion; wrap-style using each side of the pita bread as a wrap (instead of the in-pocket serving style). Inside was very little lukewarm meat, along with thinly chopped Taco-bell quality Iceberg lettuce, and a tiny tomato slice. No sauces were evident in the sandwiches, and none were made available by the server. Worth $4.99? Not a chance. Maybe $2.99. Rating = 2
There is a 0% chance I will return to this restaurant, especially having already experienced the joys that the Middle-Eastern / Mediterranean places on north Kedzie have to offer (miles beyond in Food and Service, for the same price points). Don't let the other reviews lead you to believe otherwise. -

I have this problem, and the problem is I get a massive craving for falafel on a frequent basis. Well, its really only a problem for me, and the crave can be worse then a white castle craving. Satisfaction is a must, and since I was running errands down by here, it was falafel time
I ordered up a chicken shwarma sandwich, some hummus, and of course, falafel. The falafel was real good, just fried enough and was exactly what I wanted, and left me thinking I really should've ordered more. The hummus was very good. It had an interesting flavor to it that I couldn't finger down, but it didn't take me much to destroy it pretty quickly. The chicken shwarma was solid, it was good, but I was wanting for more falafel.
I don't find myself down here too often but I definitely want to have some more the next time I find myself around here. I'll also be sure to order a lot more falafel too -

Food is okay - tastes okay, but needs salt. Average dinner entree price is $7.99 for a shwarma or kebab dinner, comes with rice, a pita and a large salad tossed with light viniagrette dressing. Portion size is decent.
Service - hit or miss. The first time I came the guy at the counter was very nice, but the last time I came, the girl at the counter was not very friendly. She was slow to pack orders, and was talking on the phone instead of packing orders. Also, she packed our salads poorly so when I picked up the bag, one box tipped and leaked dressing all over. When I complained, she said I picked it up wrong. NO, you packed it wrong.
**Advice - CALL YOUR ORDER IN, otherwise you will be waiting at least 15-20 minutes for your food. But I think you'll still have to wait, a guy came in who had called his order in, and we got our food before him.
Another tidbit - They also have a special if you order $25 of food, you get a free Falafal plate, which is $7.99 on the menu, so it sounds like a pretty good deal. -

After reading about this place on here, as well as some other sites, I just had to give it a try. Wasn't too impressed.
Its a little better then fast food I would say. There is no service here, you order through the counter and they bring it to your table. The people working there are quite mechanical. No smile, no hello, no goodbye, they just want you to order, pay, eat and get the F out.
I ordered the "combination of shish Kabobs, Kafta Kabob and Chicken served with rice, Salad and pita bread.
The chicken and shish kabob was alright, but the kafta was dry and flavorless.
I also had falafels, it was my first time having them, so I can't really say if they were good or not since I never had them. I didn't like it though.
If your hungry and on a budget, then this is the place to go.
The guy there was an asshole, they close at 11pm, we finished our meal by 10:35, one of the girls were getting off work, so it left the jagoff there alone, he kept tapping on his soda can; kinda hinting that he wanted us to leave. Don't think I'll be coming back here again. -

Everything we had was good to great.
The chicken kabob was some of the most tender I've ever had. The beef shawarma was flavorful, but a tiny bit on the dry side. The lentil soup and hummus were a great way to round out our meal.
With two drinks, our meal came to ~$25 which was a little steep for what we got, but at least it was tasty. -

I know this place isn't the same 100% persian place as Noon-a-Kabob - but it blows that place away...and Noon-a-Kabob was on the food network and stuff.
Whatever that combination plate is...get it. I've gotten in like 10 times and have gotten the chicken schwarma a couple times. both of them are excellent.
I hope this restaurant isn't the same as every other new place: food quality is spectacular at first, then dwindles to just "alright". I don't think it's ever a cost issue, but i think it's because when new restaurants open up, they need to impress their new curious customers...and what better way that top notch food?
Keep it up Ameer Kabob, and don't become one of the "alright kabob joints"...stay up top. -
Review from Derek S.

I can only rate on what I ate which was the falafel appetizer and the kafta kabob sandwich. The falafels were really good and I liked the sesame sauce (tahini I guess) that it was served with. I was less fond of the sandwich. The bread was very tough and I really think it may have been a hamburger patty they put into it.
I would come back to try the chicken and the hummus, but would not order the beef again.
The environment is clean - kind of fast food vibe. The Arabic music was fun to listen to and the waitstaff were nice. -
Review from Iman W.
I usually get wary when I look into a place and don't see too many patrons, I wonder what's wrong. But I was already there and my tummy was singing its second sonata of the night, so I went in.
I'm pretty easy to please....give me good hummus and good falafel and I'm content. I had good hummus. And good falafel (not as flavorful as I like, but it did its duty).
I did not like the baba ganoush. However, I am not holding that against the restaurant, as I have never had baba ganoush before and maybe that's what it was supposed to taste like, I don't know. -

Lentil soup is some of the best I have ever had. Blows Sultan's right outta the sand. And I love Sultan's market! Chicken Kabob was fantastic.
Now for the bad news. The kefta was tasteless and dry. The beef was tougher than a drunk bull dike.
Service was great though. Would I go back for sure. Chicken kabob and lentil soup all day yo. -

Order for 2, to go. Got the beef kabob which ended up being a bit dry and then we also had the chicken kabob which was AMAZING! It was juicy and tender and flavorful and the rice was also very tasty. Maybe I just had a bad beef experience but I would order the chicken and hold on tight because its gonna be an awesome ride. Oh, the hummus was great too and hot pita. Its also very clean inside and the staff is very friendly.

I had falafel here on the first day it opened and haven't stopped coming here. The prices are fair, the falafel is cooked with care and their sauces are satisfying. Its going to take a little time to get your food, but its worth the wait.
I'm very particular with my baba ghanoush and Ameer Kabob pulls it off flawlessly. I suggest purchasing some to take home with you. -

I was expecting much more after reading the reviews here. First, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the salads, since they are a far cry from the standard renditions. Tabouli salad was only about 5% tabouli and the salad as a whole wasn't as brightly flavored as I am used to (seemed like it was dressed with a simple oil and vinegar). The jerusalem salad contained iceberg lettuce (like half of the dish was lettuce!) and I'm pretty sure the dressing was simply watered down tahini. The same watery tahini was provided as a sauce for the falafel, but unfortunately they forgot the falafel with my order so I can't comment on that.
For my entree I got the combo platter with shish, kafka and schwarma. The meat was nicely seasoned, especially the kafka, but all were overcooked. The lentil soup was way under seasoned, but tasty after I added salt. Hummus? pretty standard, but also needed salt. Maybe I got them on a particularly bad night. -

spot on delivery, food was hot & fresh, perfectly cooked and flavorful. Prices are insanely cheap - i got a Falafel plate with salad, rice & hummus, pitas, baba ganouj all for around $10 before tax, delivery & tip. When it showed up I knew i should have ordered less, there was enough food there for 2 people.

This was undoubtedly the best Mediterranean food that we've had in Chicago. We've been to Old Jerusalem, Noon-o-Kabab, Al-Khyam, and several other places in Chicago. The food here was better than all of them.
We got a combination plate which had beef kabobs, kefta (skewered ground meat), and shish-tawook (barbecued chicken). It was served with a bowl of salad and pita bread. We also got a shawerma sandwich, a felafel appetizer and a couple of drinks. The grand total for everything was around $18.
Overall, the food was excellent. We're definitely going back. -

Holy 4 star goodness batman!
This new eatery hit one out of the park at dinner tonight. Tasty baba gannjoush, yummy chicken swarma with basmati rice, delectable shish kabob pita 'wich, all for the low low price of $18. Squeaky clean with good "service", Ameer Kabob, you may have just replaced tacos as my favorite late night meal.

I'm always looking for a good local Middle Eastern restaurant so I figure I'd give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised. I've only ordered the chicken and beef kabob and it's quite good. There's nothing special about the salad that comes along with it except that it's fresh. But the portions for the entrees are huge! And I have a big appetite. Sometimes I can't even finish the order. Give them a try--you have nothing to lose.
