ok, if you are a Mom or Nanny or will be entertaining kids for a few days, you should know this, AMC offers summer movie camp (I think that is what it's called) it's not actually camp......

Anywho, at a few of their theatres you can see a kids movie for a buck, that's right $1 on Wed mornings at 10am.  It used to be free but I read something about the money going to charity.  Also, it's not a first run, but something relatively recent, like kung fu panda or madagascar 2.

Related news, some other theatres do this or something similar, for instance, Colorado Cinemas offer a free movie on Wed and Thurs am during the summer.  Enjoy!!!!

Alright, I'm not going to bother saying too much about the theater because other reviews already talked about most aspects (screens are quite big, seats are pretty comfy, parking situation is awful, etc).

I want to mention a specific issue with this theater that has led to me deciding I will no longer frequent it.  Keep in mind, this is most conveniently located theater for me, so this wasn't an easy decision to make, but I've had enough with this theater and I can't take anymore.

I know that action movies are supposed to be loud, and I'm not some 50 year old guy complaining about loud movies these days or anything.  I have no problem with LOUD, I have a problem with TOO LOUD.  And the last 5 movies I've seen at this theater have been TOO LOUD.

What I mean is, the speakers in the theaters all support a certain wattage.  If you push too much sound to the speakers, more sound than they are capable of producing, you get a clipping effect.  When the sound clips, it sounds far louder than it actually is, and you lose a lot of nuance in the sound.  Explosions just sound like loud messes of static.  This theater consistently plays their movies with the sound turned up to the point of clipping.  If I were working on the sound engineering teams for some of these movies, I'd be appalled at what's happening to my work at this theater.

The sound is so loud that you can actually hear the background white noise turn on and off when clips of ADR are used in scenes.  It's distracting.  Action scenes are absolutely brutal.

This theater has ruined five movies for me, consecutively, because the folks running their sound systems don't understand that you can't just keep turning the volume up and expect your speakers to support it.

This hasn't been a problem at either of the other AMCs in the immediate area (Flatirons and Orchard) just this one.  I give up.

Nice place, and very clean! Good layout, great picture on the screen and well you know it's a theater so the prices are about average. I mean c'mon you can't expect to go to a movie and not spend an easy 20 bucks, unless you take your own popcorn, and candy and settle for just a pop from their place. All in all it was fun, we went to see Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, good movie but man did I want a hamburger when we left. =0)

AMC is the most expensive chain theater, but they also have the softest seats.  Don't you just hate when you settle into a movie theater, and the seat is like a plank of wood under your backside?

They also have employees stand outside of the exits when a movie lets out.  How am I supposed to sneak into another movie when they're watching me like Winonna Ryder in a department store?  By the way, you can get in some serious trouble for sneaking into a movie nowadays.  So I've heard.

This place is a stickler for rules. When a popular movie opens, they have a red rope outside the theater, and if it's an R movie, they will not only check your ticket stub, but also your ID, even if you have an oxygen tank trailing behind you.

Lot of kids and teens.  Since they can't go anywhere else on a Friday or Saturday night, this is where they come.

Big theatres though.  Even their twin screen areas where the less popular movies are projected are big.

This theatre does have the best concession stand though.  Once you order your popcorn, you can pour on all the yellowish butter on your popcorn, without the scornful watchful eye of anyone else.  If I want to clog my arteries, that should be my business and no one else's.  Additionally, the weinies are always fresh.  You won't be afraid that your hot dog has been churning in a machine all month long.

So if you can put up with their rules and vigilant behavior of the minimum wage employees, go here.  But you may be a bit tense.

I remember when the movie theater in Louisville was built. That seemed like the only thing around on the way to Boulder from Denver besides a few houses and fields.

When this theater was built, I was like-24 screens! Is this necessary?
This theater was the only thing there besides the butterfly pavillion and probably Tom Shane.

I went there years ago and now it is even a crazier place because there are like tons of hotels, restaurants within spitting distance of the theater, and a target right over the highway, with more shops and restaurants! Whew!  Also tons of new homes, condos, and more construction...

I usually either rent movies, or go to small, independent films at smaller cinemas around town.  I really miss Neighborhood Flicks.
That said, if you like things BIG, go here.

They even have combo meals at the movie theater.  Give me a break!
I noticed one combo-two large sodas and one large popcorn for $16.50!

They also brag about how they serve Orville Redenbacher popcorn here.  Signs, adverts before the movie, etc...like he is what Starbucks is for popcorn!  I betcha most of the kids who come here don't even remember him from his heydey in commercials for his corn way back when!  heehee

I am not a soda drinker, but when I asked for a cup of water with the popcorn I decided to treat myself with, they gave me a baby cup-like what you would use to drink a pill down with.
Next time, if I ever venture back to this crazy place, I will be sure to smuggle in my Nalgene bottle and prepopped microwave popcorn! Shhh!!

Three stars for the AMC Westminster Promenade. As mentioned in previous reviews, I like the fact that the theater is close to dining and shopping. You can just walk to have a bite or drink before or after the movie.

The maze-like-ticket-line cue to to the widow is a major traffic jam. I just want to buy a movie ticket, not get my driver's license. Jeez.  But that would mean hiring an extra teenager at minimum wage to make the process a minuscule faster. Forty people deep, you think the manager  would thrown on another cashier, BUT NO, the long lines continue. They should have individual lines here (or just buy your tickets in advance.)

Seats are comfy. Place is big. Parking could be better planned out.

Typical big chain theater; nothing special.  Give me the Landmark Mayan or another theater with history and a story over this any day.

It's a pretty big complex, but there are only four big theaters so if you want the huge screen and deluxe surround sound you can ask either on phone or at the ticket booth for the big theater.
It has become the babysitting area for many tweenagers, or teenagers and I may be becoming a codgy old grouch but it seems like every Thursday, Friday, or Saturday that I go it's overrun by younguns without supervision.

(For the experience minus the kids I would give a 4)

One has to wonder why there is a need for a single cineplex of 24 screens. What 12 or 16 screens aren't enough? This theater is one of my favorites in the metro area. It's very crowded of course on the weekends, and trying to find a place to park can be a nightmare, so I try to avoid the prime movie times on the weekends. One of the great things about this theater is that it sits in the shopping area known as Westminster Promenade and there are lots of places to shop and places to eat really close by.

With 24 screens you would expect the theaters themselves to be small, but they're not and they are all stadium seating, with nice wide seating and aisles.

Of course movies are very costly nowadays and this theater is no exception. Adult tickets are $9.75 and $6.75 for a child 2-12 in age. Students (with ID) are $8.75 and Seniors are $7.75. If the movie is a digital 3-D film then you should probably wait for the DVD or get a bootlegged copy because the prices are an additional $2 for adults, students and seniors. But there is a way to be the system if you will. They offer what they call AM Cinema on weekends and also holidays. Any movie before 12 noon is only $5 and most movies start around 10 or 10:30. So if on Sunday mornings you dont feel like attending mass, you can go catch a movie for 5 bucks and grab some lunch at Dave & Busters or one of the other eateries that are in the promenade. Popcorn anyone?

Decent theatre located in between Denver and Boulder.  Watched Dreamgirls but there was no surround sound so it was unfortunate we coulnd experience the musical properly.
