The movies at Phipps plaza have gone down hill.  They don't have stadium seating.  The last movie we went to the film stopped in the middle and was off for at least 10 minutes before restarting, and not where it left off.  In general the movie was ruined.

This is one of my favorite theaters to visit and it's mostly because parking is easy and the clientel is more friendly and tolerable than others in the area.  By "tolerable" I mean that there usually isn't a big crowd, or lots of unsupervised teenagers, or people that talk through the entire movie.  The bathrooms are clean and so are the theaters, so you don't have to worry about stepping in something that was left on the floor days (or weeks) before.

I like AMC's telephone and online ticket sales.  You can also use the self-serve kiosks that are on the save level as the theater, allowing you to skip the line (even though it's not usually very long) and get your tickets more quickly.  The only downside is that they don't have stadium seating, but as long as you get here a few minutes before the movie starts you can choose a good seat that won't hurt your neck.

The only good thing about AMC at Phipps Plaza is its convenient location.  Who doesn't want to shop and watch movies all in one day?  I sometimes use AMC as a nice relax session after hours of ferocious walking around the mall.  You know, the "Book a horrible movie that is relatively low in noise-level and rest your feet" routine.

But when I'm seriously trying to watch a movie, this movie theater would not be my first choice for a couple of reasons.  First and foremost, the seats are your worst nightmares, also known as non-stadium seating.  I hate it when a tall person sits right in front of me - blocking my view entirely.  Second, I really don't like the quality of their snacks.  I know it's a movie theater, but come on - their hot dogs were dry and salty, with the hot dog bun super mushy on one side and crunchy on the other side.  Awkward much?

Still, it's a decent theater if you happen to be at the shopping mall, when you suddenly had the urge to watch a movie - or seeking retreat like me!

It's a movie theater, so I'll just make this short and sweet.
Things that make me happy here:
. Parking is covered and abundant
. Never wait long to get into the Theater
. No long line in concessions
Things that make me unhappy here:
. Tickets are sold on another floor
. Bathrooms are filthy
. During quiet moments, you can hear dialog of the movie in the theater next door (really unhappy)

$10 for a ticket?! What the f*ck ever. I only went here because it was late and this was the only theatre besides Midtown Art Cinema (where we could not find a spot to park) that had the movie I wanted to see after 10pm.

I have been going to this theater since it was new and fancy.  Back in the day, this was a really nice movie theater.  I still think it is a nice enough standard movie theater and a very acceptable option.  My biggest complaint about going here is that they don't usually show movies I want to see - they mostly have mainstream films and I like to see a wider variety.  This, incidentally, was not always the case; this theater used to be one that did get a few off the beaten track movies way back when.  The parking here is pretty simple except that it is in the mall so you have to park underneath and take the elevator or escalator up.  But, you generally know that you will find a parking place, unlike at some of the other theaters in town that I tend to frequent.  And, you do have to buy your tickets on a different level than where you enter the theater but, if you are shopping or dining, it's actually nice that you don't have to go all the way up.  I think the separation does keep things more orderly, too.  I guess the ticket prices are a little steep but I think they are steep everywhere - the $10 ticket price didn't seem that high to me in relation to other theaters I have been to recently (I know for a fact it is less than the price I have paid at some theaters, too).  The seats are comfortable enough (they do rock) and they keep the place clean.  I also like that if I arrive early, I can go to Nordstrom to kill some time.

The theater itself was not too bad.. I had to move seats, due to a loud couple chomping away and talking loudly in a foreign language during  previews, which erked me so I had to make the initiative to change seats, just in case I might feel overwhelmed to kill them during the movie.  The annoying part about this theater is that it's on the very top floor of the mall, but it gives you a reason to browse this pricey mall, and then go watch a movie, since that might be the only thing you can afford to do at this mall.  As Bill S. said 10 bucks a ticket what the ^&%#!  But inflation for yeah.. and sadly the movie JUMPER sucked so much I wish I could ask for my money back.  Hayden Christensen is a hottie, but PLEASE the boy cannot act, and the movie was terrible.  I was annoyed that I was thirsty, because it ended up that I paid almost 4.00 for a soda.. Yuck!
The seats were comfy, the bathrooms were clean, and unlike N. Dekalb Theater, there were people, so I didn't feel I was at a Ghost theater.   Parking sucks if you want to go to this theater, since it's the happening mall to go to.. so even though this mall is a funner venue, I would opt for other theater's for practicality sakes.

Reasons not to go to AMC Phipps Plaza 14:

1.  An adult ticket is $10.00 (nearly a cost of most dvds at Target).
2. The hallway leading to the screens smells like pee.
3. Its inside the pretentious Phipps Plaza (which doesn't make sense)(Did I mention, it smells like pee?)

Although, they do get a bonus star, the seats rock back, its never crowded, and the floor doesn't have week old fermented soda and popcorn on the floor.

There's something I kind of like about the idea of going to a movie in a mall. For the most part you don't see this kind of establishment as far as I know anymore--though maybe that's just because I don't go to the mall very often. And there's definitely nothing that makes this theater special above any others; if anything it's more of a pain in the butt to park and walk in and ride the elevator to the second floor to buy tickets, and then up to the third floor to get to the screens and concessions, but I don't know.

Maybe I just like riding elevators.

Being only 14 screens this is a much smaller theater than you'd expect for the style of its setup. It definitely has the megalithic feel of other local movie houses, though just with less options.

The prices on their tickets, I agree, suck, but they suck pretty much everywhere these days. What are you gonna do? If you're willing to go see one of the hunks of crap the film industry has been churning out lately, might as well pay hefty for it too, right?

The workers are rude, the prices are ludicrous, and they don't have a good variety of films. The only thing going for this place is that they have pretty comfy seats,.

I don't see a lot of movies (unless I'm going to a preview), so this is generally one of 2 theatres I go to.

The other one is Midtown Art, so by comparison the Phipps Plaza is much cleaner - seats are comfier and the movie selection here is not awful for an AMC. The staff is really chill whenever I blatantly take my own drink into the theatre, which makes me happy. I also like to show up early and browse through the Phipps shops, because I don't often make stopoffs at this mall.

I usually splurge on an iced coffee or soda over at the food court, since I get tickets gratis about 95% of the time. A couple of locations stay open later to accomodate moviegoers, which is nice - because I'm just not a fan of chemically-processed theatre popcorn butter and oversized boxes of Gummi Bears. But whenever I have to pay to see a movie here, I always feel a bit taken aback by the $10 pricetag.

It's absolutely ridiculous that you can pick up 2 DVDs from Blockbuster for less, or check out an IMAX screening elsewhere.

Well it's not the Arclight or the Grove in LA, this is what I consider to be a superior "red state" theatre.  The auditoriums were kept clean and seating was pretty average.  Only gripe was the long ticket queues...but it moved quickly.  I also thought $6 was a fantastic bargain for a movie ticket in an upscale urban mall. (I don't know how much they are now, I'm quoting 2002 prices)

I think I have seen more movies here than anywhere else in Atlanta.  And I am not entirely sure why.  It just seems to be the place my friends like to go to the most.

It's sort of a hassle getting in- first, you have to find a spot in the parking deck.  Next, ride some escalators up to the mall level.  Then take your pick- do you want to ride the elevator up another level, or be healthy and run up the stairs?  Now you can buy your tickets.  Once you do that, you have to go up one more level to the theater.  Bah!

I guess we always end up here because the theater is clean and quiet.  And back in the day when the last three Star Wars movies came out this was the place to see it.  I remember sitting in the queue for hours waiting to get a ticket to see "Star Wars- The Phantom Menace" with Yoda, some storm troopers, and some dude who really thought he was young Obi Wan.  He went to all the premieres in his Obi Wan costume, and even had the rat tail thing going on.

I guess it's worth the hassle getting around Phipps to be in a clean, quiet environment.

This is an "okay" theatre: not great, not horrible.  If you're looking to see one of the wider releases, you can definitley accomplish that here.  I can't complain about the $5 first-show matinees, and I like the old guy that takes tickets on Sunday mornings.  He's pretty nice and grandpa-like.  Otherwise, this place is the epitome of average.

It's a movie theater. So no surprises here. This one is pretty clean, but the theaters are rather small....so if you're seeing a big time movie on opening night, get here early. All the movies I've been to didn't have stadium seating in the theaters, so I'm not sure if any of them do.

Ticket prices are incredibly high compared to the AMC across town, but if you had to pay to lease space in Phipps, you'd probably charge that much too.

It's not that great.  It's way overpriced.  The staff seems kind of dumb at times.  They tend to not know where their own rooms are.

There are no dancing teddy bears to greet me.  The wild boars that run around in the hallways do not provide enough food and drink for the people walking by.  The questions that are posted on the wall are all written in Greek and only 1/8 of the people who go in can read them at all.  And then those questions don't even make sense from what I've been told.  It's just not right for a movie theater at all to act in this manner.

Pretty run of the mill as movie theaters go. This AMC location is on the top floor of Phipps Plaza, next to the food court. It's not stadium seating, but the chairs are comfy and not too cramped. This AMC hosts advance screenings of movies on a semi-regular basis.

The ticket counter is one floor down from the theater entrance on the opposite side of the atrium. The escalator traffic patterns force you to walk through part of the mall to find one that runs up to the movie theater. Annoying, but you get used to it.

There's a newsstand shop on the top level that sells drinks and candy that's a lot cheaper than anything you'll find inside the theater. I always stop there if I feel like I need a snack and have big pockets to smuggle my food in.

Oh take me back to the movies...take me back to the crowds...give me some popcorn and crackerjacks...i wish the tall guy would sit in the back...

The memories. Before stadium seating, this was all we had. I don't mind doing the throwback thing sometimes when I go to the movies. I'll try to go see something that has been out for a while so I can avoid crowded seats and possibly not being able to see over someones head.

The location is also a plus, especially during the holiday season. I can stop through Nordstrom, Brighton and some other stores that I general grab gifts from and see a movie too.

No stadium style seating!  This could make or break a dramatic, comedic, horror or suspense film for movie goers.   Unfortunately, this is the case at the AMC Theater in Phipps's Plaza.  The poor theater needs and upgrade because it is not on the same level as many other theaters in Atlanta.  Don't get me wrong, the theaters are nice, they just remind me of the eighties; built on a slightly declining slop and lacking sufficient surround sound.

AMC Phipps Plaza is not the greatest movie theater. The seats are relatively comfortable, but the overall experience would definitely improve if they had stadium seating. Also, this theater gets very crowded, and people can be rather obnoxious. I saw a scary movie and people were yelling and fighting the entire time. Security guards actually came in and kicked several of them out. The whole fiasco was like show on the side of the movie I came to see. Not exactly a pleasant experience. I'd recommend trying other theaters before Phipps.
