Prefer this place over Germantown and Rockville movie theatres.  It would see more convienent if they just checked in and sold tickets on one floor and had the stairs inside.  OR had a sign saying which theater was showing which more on which floor so I'm not given a surprise of "Yes you bought your ticket down here but now you must go down stairs."  What ever I'm not that lazy but just seems convienet IMO #justsaying.

Any who....seats are comfortable which they reclined more and arms seats went up.

I've been to this AMC locations a few times after work.

I've found it to be clean and spacious. BP likes looking at the movie posters outside of the entrance and they have benches within the entrance, so that's nice.

In the winter, its about 98 degrees around both floors of the theater. I find that to be stifling and try to get out of there as soon as possible.

I prefer this theater over Bethesda, Germantown, and Rockvile.  For one, it's in a very nice area, it's close to where I live and they keep their bathroom pretty clean.  Sometimes the upstairs ticketing booth is closed, I don't know why but they should change that.

This was a strange theater. 1st it has two levels that are not connected. Every other 2 level theater I have been in are connected.

This one we bought our tickets on the lower level, had to go outside and up an escalator and into another theater and give our tickets to the person there and find our theater.

The theater itself was ok. The railings were a little high so you couldn't rest your feet on them, which sucks if you sit in the front row just to do that.

The bathrooms were a little hard to find or at least I thought they were. They were clean-ish, could have been cleaner.

Price was a little high I thought. $30 bucks for two people, I get it was 3-D but really $30?

It's a fairly clean and large theater with stadium seating, 18 theaters, and 2 levels.  However, the two levels aren't connected, so it can get confusing sometimes (OK, maybe just confusing for me).

While the convenience to so many dining establishments is great, this theater is still overrun by teenagers who text and talk through movies without any enforcement by the ushers. Eh.

Not a bad place to catch a film, although with the speed in which movies come out on DVD and Netflix, it really is just simpler and less annoying to wait an extra 6 weeks until I can watch it from the comfort of my living room.

The actual theater itself is pretty cool.  It has a nice & somewhat contemporary feel to it.  I did find it to be pretty weird that the movie theater is split into 2 floors BEFORE you buy your tickets.  I have seen theaters where you get your tickets, and THEN once you go inside the theater, there are elevators, but here it is not set up that way (which is slightly confusing).  We bought our tickets first, and had to physically walk out of the movie theater, go downstairs and walk back into the movie theater.

I actually loved the view of the water, and the area w/all of the surrounding restaurants here.  The ONE thing that really turned me off was the restrooms.  First of all they looked like they were 2 decades older than the actual movie theater was....  I was wondering did someone renovate the theaters but forgot to renovate the restrooms.  Anyways, I went into the first restroom and it was SUPER FILTHY!!!!  So I left that restroom completely, and found another restroom in the movie theater.  The other restroom was not as filthy, but it was not too clean either.  That was a HUGE turnoff for me.  Other than the restrooms everything was cool, but I definitely have to knock off a star for the uncleanliness of the restrooms.

I always go to this theater because it is so close to my house. I noticed that the customer service is going down... it's strange actually.. there are two different theaters, upstairs and downstairs. The theaters upstairs are bigger and the staff there is usually nice and friendly. The theaters downstairs are smaller and the staff is so ridiculous. I have no idea why that is. A few weeks ago I watched a movie downstairs, and I waited in line for the longest time. There are more than 3 registers but for some reason only 1 was open. There must have been more than 5 workers behind the counter... they were all conversing with one another not even paying attention to the customers. When it was finally my turn, the person that rang me up was so unprofessional, conversing with other workers, she asked me what flavor icee i wanted more than 2 times because she kept forgetting

I really have nothing more to say about this theater, besides the staff, the place is great.

Nice theatre.  Usually pretty clean as movie theatres go.  Lots of options re: movies and decent selection of snacks.  People have been polite (although once we went to some kids movie and my little one left her American Doll in the theatre.  We left, realized it about 2 minutes after leaving the theatre & went right back and they wouldn't let us go back in and get it because they thought we were trying to "steal" a move.  Unbelievable!  Finally a manager allowed us in!  We got our doll back!!).  All in all, it's our goto theatre along with Kentland's (fewer options but awesome sprinkles for the popcorn!)

The service in this theater is a disaster. The staff couldn't be slower. After waiting in line for 15 minutes (with 4-5 customers in line behind me), the concession staff decided to close the register and go on break. Yeah. He just told us all to get in the other lines which were equally as long. Needless to say I didn't buy any concessions and I won't be returning to this theater.

It's a large megaplex movie theatre.  They have several large screens with stadium seating.  What was a surprised to me was to realize that they also posses an IMAX screen!

AMC Stubs is an interesting program.  For $12 per year (i was charged $6 for some reason), you can keep track of what you spend at the theatre.  Every $100 spent gives you a $10 coupon to use there.  You also will get free upgrades on popcorn and drinks to the next larger size!

The other nice perk is that they waive the transaction fees if you buy your tickets online!  It's been a valuable deal for me thus far!

    $21.00

Apparently two movie tickets at a massive, sub-par American movie chain now cost $21.

Look, I'm definitely not a cheap skate by any means, but something about that really grinds my gears.  In fact, I wouldn't have an aversion to spending $21 for movie tickets at a Landmark theatre or other boutiquish chain that serves alcohol or has particularly good AV equipment... but the AMC at Rio?

    come on...

FYI, Slumdog Millionaire is a great movie; if you haven't peeped it yet, you should.

A nice location, we've been to a couple of matinees here.  They now have an IMAX screen, which is a big plus in the upper theater.  Nice place for a movie, with a lot to do in the area.

How did I not write a review on my standard movie theater?  It's not the best, it's not the newest, but it's my go-to when I want to see a movie.  Regal in Rockville has become too dumpy and I can't think of any other big theaters where parking is not a pain (aka Silver Spring).  It's got your digital screens and I think one rated for 3D as well.

Every time I try to go see a movie at Tysons Corner, parking is a pain in the ass, and it's always sold out.  I guess people just flock to the newest theater since they lack of maintenance will catch up and the minimum wage employees are just sick of mopping up spilled drinks which lead to sticky floors.

While in the area for the Holidays, the family decided to take in a show. What a difference this place was compared to Regal in Germantown. We made a mistake and caught a movie there a few days earlier.

The theater was nice and clean and didn't have the annoying talking or people talking directly to the movie. The seats were very comfortable.

I was disappointed that I caught the show in the early afternoon, but still had to pay full price (10.50)  and not the matinee price.

Student prices are only in effect on a certain day and not all days. That policy should change.

The seats to me a are little outdated but people flock here. It is def a Family place..and you will see a swarm of kids... :)

The Rio area is a great entertainment center with restaurants, shops and theater. Loews is a huge theater with auditoriums on two floors - they feature probably most of the new movies that are released. It's great to be able to go to dinner and come back to a movie or go to a bar before movies start. Places to "kill" time are everywhere so you won't get bored if you have to wait for a screen time. There're concession and ticketing stands on both floors. You can also pre-buy tickets from Fandango. The two floors are accessible by escalator and elevator as well. The bathrooms are big, spacious but it can be cleaner!

I've been to these movie theaters a lot since high school and it's really just fine.  What makes the area more interesting is that there's a boardwalk, restaurants and a few shops to walk to.

The movie theaters on the other hand, are nothing special.  My last trip compelled me to write bc it just stood out as something negative.  We went to see Avatar which was showing in the theaters upstairs.  When we went to get our concessions, they were being run by your average high school age employees.   Upon ordering, we could hear the workers grumbling about the lack of oil and no way to make any more popcorn.  I suppose they had called their manager a few moments earlier with this emergency, since he came huffing and puffing over.  What left a bad taste in my mouth was how rude the manager was to the employees with customers standing right next to him.  He proceeded to tell the employees in a condescending tone that there was no oil anywhere, just like downstairs, it was frozen anyway and popcorn couldn't be made and what is he supposed to do about it.  They just stood there and looked at him and we nervously looked away.  He then continued to tell them that they should have never called him by putting it in as an emergency and that they should've gotten the message about  no oil earlier.  Clearly they didn't get that memo, since they did call him with this seemingly legit emergency.  Then he stormed off but not before directing them to sweep the floor which was littered with popcorn.

I just really didn't  like how unprofessional the manager was with his employees, and he never really seemed to acknowledge the presence of customers.  Several customers were shocked and upset by the lack of popcorn and the employees are on the front lines to take the brunt of the anger...not the manager who left.  Maybe he was just in a bad mood, but it made me feel icky about this already-average movie theater.  Oh yeah!  They also didn't start the 3-D on Avatar until about 10 minutes in.  At first, I was like 'This isn't 3d!!!'  Geez.

interesting location in a huge megaplex of a shopping center with a Tara Thai on one side and a Hamburger Hamlet on the other. Nice, since the concessions here amount to the usual overpriced fare. Open air entrance which is a little different and welcome. Theater itself is OK inside but nothing you haven't seen before. No stadium seats but cup holders on the seats. So not awful but compared to Regal/Edwards or Landmark it's way behind. Even some of AMC's newest efforts fall short of the competition.

There's nothing wrong with this theatre. There are many screens, but the worst is the seats! I watched a long movie this weekend and my rear end was numb by the end of the night. That wasn't even the worst of it. The theater was burning up! I thought it was just me, until I saw other patrons fanning themselves during the movie. Then I asked the people I went with and they all agreed it was like a sauna in there. It was so uncomfortable I could hardly concentrate on the movie :(

I have had a horrible experience with loews amc theatre in Gaithersburg rio 20879. The security here is way to agressive and hostile and someone needs to complain. An African American security gaurd once kicked me out of the theatre because I was waiting for my ride.  I returned 10min later to find 3 african Americans sitting where I was kicked out so I went up to the African American security guard and asked him why he kicked me out and not them, he said, "cuz u were being loud and obnoxious." clearly, he was lying because I was alone and silent so I told him that. He gets in my face like he's gonna kiss me and snorts at me "well then ur friends were being loud and ur guilty of association and that's that, leave." I was alone and this was just ONE of my experiences with this guard. Personally I think he's a rasict and someone needs to finally stand up to him. I've seen people harrassed by him and security and they are horrible at their job. I've been kicked out numerous times and I DIDNT DO ANYTHING! Ive just been that person in the wrong place at the wrong time and they always say i am guilty of association. I know theyre just doing their jobs but they need to relax a bit.  They are not nice they immediately embarrass people by yelling at them over stupid reasons such as "talkink too loud."  what???
