I usually frequent this movie theatre with Miriam & Christina when we go to see Underworld Movies. :)

I haven't had a bad experience yet & the times that I have gone it hasn't been obnoxiously loud, which is a plus for me!

I also love that the bathroom is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! I have never encountered a line!! Yippee!! Thats a DOUBLE PLUS for Me! I am not a fan of waiting on the line for the bathroom especially when you force yourself to hold it during the entire movie. lol

I also LOVE that they have Curly Fries here!!!

Great location near MSG, with plenty of activity and buzz around. But, very limited bike parking opportunities.

The venue has a nostalgic feel, but is modern and comfortable.

I like going to the movies and this place isn't as bad as some theaters.
    1. For the most part I like coming to this theatre b/c I rarely hear people talking back to the screen.
    2. The stadium seating.

Ummm.. That's really all that I like about the theater. I can say a lot of what I don't like.
    1. The ticket kiosk being broken again. They are never ALL working.
    2. People not picking up their trash..a mess. I know they have people there to clean the theater, but really people that's just nasty.
    3. The entire monstrous theater only having restrooms on one floor...ahhh this is NYC...with 4million people being in the theater at once why would they think that was okay?

I can go on, but you get the point. Although it has flaws, I will continue to go to that theater. If the movie I want to see is playing at the time I want to go....and if I'm lucky I'll be able to sneak into another movie....*youth nostalgia*

Typical theatre.  The only gripe is the placement of the restrooms and concessions.  $13 to see the movie Haywire is also $13 I will never be able to recover!

34th street theaters - you enjoy coming here if you:
    -talk back to the screen
-text on your slide-out keyboard phone during the movie
-throw drinks in the theater when you are upset
-catch up with your friends after the lights go down
    -throw trash
-have issues with people on the phone while you are on the phone during a movie
-are acquainted with ticket taker who would rather your large posse not pay for a movie as you cut in front of everyone else in line

Theaters are modern and OK - but the audience may not have read as many books as others on average- this will be in-your-face at 34th st AMC.

Our Mission Impossible experience ended with someone throwing a full cup of soda at someone else.

A great theater not the best. I was very unhappy with the bathrooms. Not only were they not conveniently placed they were unclean. Luckily i visited the theater when it wasn't packed....ive read about the horrible experiences. So i guess that a plus?

5 Floors is quite impressive coming from the theaters I'm used to attending here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I would say that the prices were a little stiff though..esh!

The staff were pleasant and helpful. Some of The concession stands were abandoned like the staff went of break and didn't let any one know. Major downside!

    I would go back.

Never again!  We got here what seemed like early (25 minutes before show time) for a movie on a non-opening weekend and the theater for our movie was packed like sardines.  We ended up sitting in the second row with our 3D glasses, which I am pretty sure was what caused my neck cramp and eye twitch.

Perhaps we should've gotten there an hour before show time?  No thanks. I'll stick to Battery Park.

Really?  Movie theaters on the 3rd and 5th floors with bathrooms ONLY on the 4th floor?  Really?

Aside from the horrible bathroom situation (perhaps its inconvenient location also explains why no one seems to ever clean it ... it's usually dirty, filled with clogged toilets, and covered with toilet paper and paper towel litter), the theater is great.

The line moves pretty fast (I wait in line because I use those special passes) and they also have kiosks.  The theaters are big and clean and rarely get uncomfortably packed.  When I was young and responsibility-free, I would see midnight movies here nearly every week - they usually have a decent selection on Thursday nights.

I often smuggle in food from Five Guys, Chipotle (my best friend successfully transported two OPEN half-finished bottles of Corona in her handbag into the theater without a spill), Quiznos, the deli next door, etc.

Weekends before noon you get into any movie for $6.00!

    BEAST of a movie theater!!!
3 maybe 4 floors to trek up for different theaters? Unfortunately the last 2 times I was here our movie was on the top floor. No fun if you have to rush to catch a train after, takes you 5-10 minutes to just get outside even if you're not cattling behind a herd. Thank G*d for escalators!

One of the better theaters I've been to in the city.
Very spacious and decent ventilation in the theaters (a poorly ventilated theater is simply a horrendous experience).
Note, I don't really deal with the ticket counter, I buy my tickets online and deal with the machines (Fandango ftw!)
So far, the escalators are half and half, when they don't work, it feels like climbing a mini mount everest - narrow and high.
The concession stand staff are positive in attitude, I've seen them laugh and have a good time - make me confident my popcorn isn't going to be too bad.
So far, good experience here - good theaters to watch movies in and easily accessible from the subways.

This theater is just like any other movie theater to me...nothing stands out. It is clean, a little oldish looking...but the seats are comfortable, the place is clean. What more can you ask for? I like that's conveniently located right by the 34th station. I guess that's about it.

    Tip-bits:

    Bathrooms on the highest floor?
Get your tickets with the automated machines, no lines
$6 movies before noon on weekdays

It's a theater. It is fine. It is very conveniently located for me if I want to go see a movie after work.
It's not a fancy or high-class experience - this is the place where, one time, I was buying tickets to a foreign film and the cashier was reluctant to sell them to me, saying, "You know that's not in English, right?" Yes, ma'am, I am actually literate and am capable of reading subtitles. By the way, you are aware that many people in NYC actually speak and understand Spanish, right? Believe It, Or Not.

Other things You Might Want to Know:
The IMAX here is not an IMAX. Do not pay for it. It is tiny. Go to Lincoln Center instead.
This is also the first and only theater I have ever seen actually carding people on their way into an R-rated movie. They were making sure that no under-18 teens got in to see Fright Night. So if you are a Youth, be warned!
Bathrooms were pretty mega-yuck, but that's par for the course. At least they're plentiful.

Harry Potter mega saga sadly comes to a close for I had the pleasure to view for the second time, an avid Harry Potter fan I am, with a friend through our faith.

A multiplex cinema consisting of fourteen theaters on four levels, this AMC Loews at 34th Street is clean and makes a smile for a final ending for shoppers at nearby Herald Square Macy's, Manhattan Mall, Victoria Secret or karaoke in Korea Town. The corridors are have a simple yet nice decorum. AMC Stubs Program is available here. Unlike it's sister location of Times Square 42nd Street, this theater patrons will not be induced to the "AMC Escalator Labyrinth" as per a previous Yelper Mike B. stated of endless turns to reach your assigned theater but rather a mini "AMC Escalator Labyrinth" of four levels!!

Facilities are ample and clean as there is no line.  Hand dryers are conveniently, yet oddly, attached above the sink.

"Hmm, AMC Loews 34th Street, AMC Loews 34th Street, where is that?  I feel like I know that spot, but I know I have never seen a movie there, hmmm.." - That is what I said to myself when deciding that this theater fit our schedule.  Then I realized this spot is directly across the street from where the Bolt Bus picks you up.  Ahhh, I know this place well.  I have stared at this theater many times, late on Sunday nights waiting for the bus.

Anyway!  This theater is sort of your typical suburban multiplex with high ceilings and Disneyworld-like decor, chopped into pieces and stacked up to fit a snug slice of Manhatan real estate.   This means you go up 10 stories of escalators to get your screening room.  That's ok, though.  This location is a little on the dumpy side as compared to the AMC Lincoln Square or AMC Empire on 42nd street.

The staff was kind of hack, too - lot's of slouching and employees chatting each other up.  However, just when I though the crowd of 18-something employees were ignoring us as we walked by, they all looked up and said, "welcome to AMC Loews, enjoy your movie".  Ok, I was wrong.

The concession stands are pretty good, too.  After about 10 escalator rides up, my wife decided she wanted ice cream.  At a movie theater, ok fine.  They had this sad little area that was poorly lit, with Breyers ice cream, Tazo tea, coffee, espresso, etc.  Really bad set up, but I rarely see all of this stuff at a movie theater.  For ice cream, they had one size... a bowl.  The girl behind the counter loaded up the bowl with what looked to be at least 4 scoops, even though she said we were getting 2 scoops.  Wonderful stuff.  She was really nice.  The wife also got Tazo black tea.

Really odd, but, we got to out movie, sat in comfy seats with our 3-D glasses and my wife sad there, happily munching on a combo of rocky road and mint chocolate chip ice creams, sipping tea as we enjoyed the 3-D movie we came to see.

I am betting that at least a quarter of the moviegoers here are theatre hoppers. People were coming in at a bunch of different intervals in the movie I was watching. I so am not knocking their hustle. As expensive as movies are now, I need to start theatre hopping myself. This establishment is too understaffed to care or notice if people are going from one theatre to the next. You could easily spend the who day there.

Some days, the crowds at this place can be a bit too much for me. I guess this is one of the trade-offs for its convenience. It is located right on 34th Street, so people who are trying to avoid Time Square often end up here. I am not a fan of this place on weekends when box office hits are around. It can get very packed and be too rowdy.

It is a movie theatre. It gets the job done.

My friends have demonstrated to me through evidence that this is an easy theater to movie hop in.  They only check tickets on the first floor, no one checks you on the second and third floor.

**Not saying I encourage it!!! ;)

Bathrooms are on the third floor, which is just a taaaaddd bit annoying.

yes, seat arms do fold up for those couples who like to snuggle (aka make out) during movies.

DO NOT GO TO THE IMAX HERE!!!!!!!

It's totally a sham. The screen is slightly larger than a normal movie theater, but about quarter the size of a true IMAX screen.

I feel totally ripped off and asked for my money back.

Take the train uptown to Lincoln center...they have a real IMAX screen and it's the same price.

    Shame on you AMC.

I recently saw the Twilight movie here, and was thoroughly disappointed. First time visiting. It's pretty ghetto here. A man brought his son who couldn't have been more than 3 years old, and the child was running up and down the stairs during the movie with a balloon (that eventually popped). What kind of movie theater permits entrance of a little boy like that to a PG-13 movie? There were no ushers. We mentioned something to the father, who couldn't have cared less. Won't be back.

This would be my favorite movie theater except for the fact that though they advertise themselves as having an IMAX therater, it is not a true IMAX screen (go to 68th St and Broadway for that).  Regardless, this has some great screens.  It is relatively clean and you're unlikely to run into roving crowds of annoying kids (unless you go see Fast Five or a Justin Bieber concert film).
There are bathrooms on only one floor (I think it might be the third level) so be prepared for a lengthy wait.

It's a decent theater with lots of different movies. The one thing I didn't like was how the bathroom was on the third floor. After finishing up a movie on the 2nd floor, if you have to go really badly, you have to stumble around your way to the third floor to go use the bathroom. Can you imagine the poor folks who thought there was one on the same floor only to find out it's not?!

I also wished they had a bucket for large popcorn instead of a bag. However, Sunday matinee's are the best!

I came here today to see The King's Speech. I had a $4 AMC ticket to use and decided to use it today.

I get to the theater and I go up to the ticket purchase location. I hand him my $4 ticket as I request a ticket for the King's Speech. No Problem.

The movie is showing in theater 5 so I go up to to the location where it's showing after the ticket seller tears off the stub. He does this because there are not ticket takers on my way up. I get to the floor that Theater 5 is on. I ask the concession clerk where the men's room is. One flight up. I went up, did my business and went back down.

I went back to the concessions clerk and asked if he takes credit cards. He does but doesn't have paper to print receipts. I say what the hell and order nachos and a medium popcorn.

After my order is completed I go to Theater 5 to see the movie. It starts at 1:30 PM instead of the published time of 1:15 PM

I don't know everyone doesn't like this theatre. It's clean and it doesn't smell bad and it does not get overcrowded like some of the Time Square theatres. Best of all, the seats aren't all crazy sunken in.

There is an elevator to the right of the box office for those who are escalator challenge. The bathroom may be a bit of the way off, but you should really pee before you start the movie. FYI no one wants to see your head bobbing by when they're trying to enjoy the movie anyway so do your business before and after!

Restroom is only on one floor so you have to go out of your way just to do your thing.

Chairs aren't as comfortable as other AMC. Seats are key for a great movie experience.

While the theater may be boisterous and seedy at night time for highly anticipated releases, it is as comfortable and clean a theater you can find in Manhattan. Though I do confess that I have watched mostly matinees at this theater. It is definitely a convenient location in the Midtown West that avoids the Time Square crowds.

With added leg room, middle rows of leather seats, and extra counter space for drinks and snacks (theater 9), it makes for an enjoyable experience for moviegoers - as long as those chatterboxes behind me keep it down!

If you can stand the endless lost tourists and heavy foot traffic, it's not a bad theater. Fairly clean and with multiple screens, its more likely to be showing whatever's hot at the box office rather than something artsy or cerebral. If you're into indie films, chic spots with small screens and are allergic to teens or tweens stay faaaar away. You have been warned! Only 3 stars because like most major chain theaters, there's nothing new here. The staff of mostly teenagers and young adults are as polite and professional as movie theaters staffed by teenagers and young adults often are--and I'll let that speak for itself. Otherwise, same cookie cutter layout and overpriced snacks bound to give you a coronary and seriously do damage to your wallet. But its got that THX stereo surround sound we all like in our Micheal Bey ordinary-day-of-freeway-transit-by-combustible-aut omobiles-gone-horribly-awry action scenes.

Information is key when and if you attend this theater. Ladies, ask where your closest restroom is, if you need this information because odds are that it is a floor above or below your theater. The staff always seems under trained and frazzled.

My preferred AMC is Times Square. It is literary an 8 minute brisk walk from this theater, just walk up 8th and make a right on 42nd street.

This is probably one of the worst movie theaters I've ever been to!

The facilities are out of date and pretty nasty. WHY is there only a bathroom on the top floor? What a hassle! And if there's only one restroom, couldn't they at least keep it clean and maintained?

All I wanted was to just sit and relax with a girlfriend of mine, but we walk into the theater to find that there's trash all over the place from the previous showing! GROSS! And then, throughout the movie this guy in front of us kept making comments and mocking the movie (I didn't pay 13 dollars to listen to COMMENTARY). I think he was on a date with his girl and trying to impress her with his flat wit. The guy in front of him demanded he shut up, leading to a full on shout fest in the middle of the movie. I wish someone would have escorted this ridiculous guy OUT for being so inappropriate!

I want my money back! This was NOT the relaxing experience I was looking for.

This is a great theater with workers that DON'T hate their jobs. I mean, take this example.

I purchased 2 tickets with cash from the cashier and then realized I had a "free movie ticket" from my AMC card in my wallet. The cashier said "no problem, I'll refund you for one of these." It was so refreshing to me.

The one problem I have with this theater is that the restrooms are not on every floor.

I refuse to go to the madness that is 42nd St to watch films or to do any kind of recreational activity. So the 34th St. AMC theater is a nice alternative when you're in the area.

I find that this theater is never really crowded, or it's just set up to keep the flow of people going through nicely. I've never had a bad experience at this theater. It's great that you have the option of standing online to purchase your tickets or using the Fandango machines located at the entrance.

There are tons of bathrooms on the third level. Some people forget how big of a bathroom it is, so they automatically just stand online but there's almost always a bathroom open in the back. The employees do a good job at the concession stand and for the overall upkeep of the theater.

But seriously almost $12 for a medium popcorn and a "small" soda?? Sheesh.

I would recommend to go the empire 25 one. Movies are more recent and more space compare to Loew. You can also take a lot of good pictures.

This theater is a B, B+, HOWEVER, it is single-handedly the easiest theater of all time to jump from one movie to another. Its 4 floors, no security, and maybe 3 employees. I've gone to 4 movies in one day here and wasn't noticed in the slightest. Not even when I went back for my 5th refill of soda for the day.

This is one of the biggest theaters in NYC...but it surely isnt the cleanest....lol...there is about 4 floors and they have computerized ticket purchasing booth on the main floor.

My girlfriend and i went to see the Little Fockers there at around 9pm on a sunday night. It was'nt crowded and since we got there a little early, we wanted to sit down and wait for the movie to start. But there wasnt any available benches around for us to sit on the 4th floor, so we decided to go in to the theater a little early so that we can sit down, but we were told that they are actually cleaning it inside and it will be ready in about 10min. So while we waited, we ate some popcorns and chit chat a bit.

The manager later told us the theather is now available and if we like we can go in now. We went inside the theather and found that the place is not cleaned and there were popcorns on the floor...ahahaha.....i guess thats NYC for ya...=P Nonetheless we had a good time and the movie was good so i guess that matters more!

the last movie I've seen at this theater is the last Harry Potter movie.  I'm coming to see movies here more often lately.   (I'm still a little suspicious about the bedbugs rumor at the AMC Times Square).  This theater has everything.  (IMAX, regular, 3-D).  It's in a convenient location close to train stations and K-Town.  It's too bad that the borders bookstore nearby is closing, though.  The location is convenient for friends from downtown and Queens also.  I recently witnessed an altercation between two moviegoers here.  The person in the front seat was playing games on his phone and the light was flashing to the people behind him.  Somebody went outside and complained to the manager, and she came into the theater to talk to the person playing games on the phone.  The manager was pretty firm with him I could tell.  I kind of like that.

As an update to my review, I would say that I like AMC Kip's Bay better than AMC 34th St.  I forget if Kip's Bay has faux IMAX, but 34th St does.  On opening night, the crowds do fill this place up (they spill over from the largest AMC on 42nd St, AMC Empire 25), and it does attract some of the annoying 42nd St crowd.

This is my second choice for movie theaters in Manhattan.

The ticket counter people are efficient.  The ticket tearers are very professional and quite pleasant.  The building itself is very clean (with exception of the bathrooms...which are decently clean for such high turnover...though not spectacular).  And the building is humungous, allowing you to feel like you're getting more bang for your buck.

My only issue is that concessions is horrid!

The employees are very nice and don't have massive amounts of molasses to get outta dey asses as they pump out your food.  But management never open enough concession areas.  You always have to go 2 floors up or down to get your snack'ums.  And they're always understaffed.  If you don't arrive 30 minutes before your movie during peak hours, you can be in risk of missing previews or the beginning of your movie.

Other than that, this is still a solid location.
