AMC Definitely isn't open only from 9pm to 11am!! So whomever wrote that.. please change!!

    Now, for the review...

Yeah, parking sucks... but the movie theatre is awesome! They are in the talks about serving "spirits" like Emagine and I can not wait until that happens.

The seating is great and it is always clean.

I giggle to myself when I see people complain about movie ticket prices at theatres like AMC.... Man, where I grew up, the ticket prices are TRULY outrageous. I was delighted when I moved out here and found out I could see a day's first showing of a movie for $5! It's craziness.

Yeah, concessions are ridiculously expensive at this theatre, as they are at all the major movie theatre chains. I generally don't need any snacks and stuff, so it's not a major complaint of mine. The staff usually move all the lines pretty quickly, and I've never had an issue with the sound/picture being screwed up during the movies themselves. All in all, I've had pretty positive experiences here.

I can't really complain about this theatre other than overhearing some really, really awkward conversations between the teenage boys that work there. They might wanna learn better workplace manners. What happened to you when your mom caught you watching hardcore interracial porn is NOT something the customer standing there wants to hear, ya creeper! (And yes, I seriously overheard that conversation at this theatre...)

Outrageous Prices. $10 per ticket is crazy compared to other theaters around the area. Canton Cinema is only $4.75. I most likely will not come back because of the prices. Don't really like how expensive the concessions were too. I know Movie Theater concessions are overpriced anywhere but their prices are crazy. For 5 people it came to $100 for tickets, 2 small popcorn's and Icee's. We had 3 free small popcorn coupons but another $50 for 5 Icee's and 2 small popcorn's is ridiculous.

It is one of the bigger theaters in the area which is one reason people come here. If smaller theaters like Canton Cinema don't have the movie you want to see go to Emagine  it is just as big, but with more reasonable prices.

There are a lot of commercials too. It's annoying that they have more commercials than any other theater I've gone to. Like I said I will most likely never come back to this theater.

Nice and clean and they show harder-to-find movies. Some movies start as early as 9:30 a.m. so you can catch a show before work or errands! The parking lot is located next to a Bahama Breeze so you can do the dinner and a date night!

I like this theater, it's just a regular AMC operation but it's better than many of the theaters I have been to.  The parking lot is huge and it can get packed on the weekend.  However even when the parking lot is packed there are so many theaters that you don't notice any crowds of people.  Weekday matinees are about $6 and there are plenty of arcade games to keep you busy.  The people that work here and friendly, service doesn't suck and it's a clean location.

The worst thing about this place?  The other customers.  On my most recent visit I chose a comedy and got there early.  Once the movie was about to start, people continue to pile in, no big deal.  Two women (in their 40s or older) came in and sat behind me.  One of the women began making her own comments basically a bunch of "ummm", "mmm mmmm", "hmmm", "uhhh", "mmm, hmmm" and so on during the entire movie.  It was fucking annoying and the bitch wouldn't stop.  There was no other seats so I couldn't move.  I turned around a couple of times but in all honesty the stupid bitch was too much of an idiot to realize how annoying she was.  So if you're going to the movies remember not to be a fucking asshole.

Went and saw Sucker Punch (in iMax) here this past Sunday afternoon. Their sound system (very deep lows and awesome middles) perfectly complimented the movie's soundtrack and audio effects.  The screen was as big as the entire wall (can I plug in my xBox ?!?!).

Concessions were good & the theater was very clean (the patrons were very civilized and threw out their popcorn & drinks afterward). No issues with parking & it's an awesome location right next to the highway!

this is probably the theater i go to most, parking is kind of hit or miss late at night since they have a few restaurants next to it. popcorn and candy same old standard stuff along with those crazy high prices. place is pretty clean. i always like to be in my seat 30mins before the movie starts on prime nights since it gets packed, of course that usually means i've eaten all my popcorn before the movie even starts which is always sad. i like the free club u can join(Movie Watcher i think it's called) and u receive free things every time u go like movie tickets, free food or a few $$ off food item.

Crowded, parking is a pain and they jacked up the prices to ten bucks, heck the matinees are $7.50. It was a hike for us anywho.

Seating is fine, popcorn decent, the standard barrels of pop are served, overpriced candy and the whole nine.

We found a lot of times when we went here people would drag their kids into an inappropriate movie past 9:30 pm which really bothers me. I had one movie completely ruined when someone let their child wander around during the climax, not an usher in sight and when I complained I got the *what do you want me to do about it lady* treatment.

Another night we got there early and were all seated when people came after the movie already started, the usher got really testy about us moving. Hello I got here on time and picked a seat, the movie is now on and these people should have gotten here earlier, now my time is wrecked for their convenience. That time they did comp us but honestly it annoyed me so much we never went back to use them as the movie was one I had really been waiting for and now I was crammed in and made to feel bad because duh I was inconvenienced and pissed.

Sorry but for those rates that should never happen. Geez if people cant be on time for the show make them wait until the next if they can't find six seats together in the middle level, or make them sit seperately, anything but bothering other people.

Rob is correct (disclaimer: we're friends).

AMC 20 is great. While Emagine in Novi has an advantage in that it has a bar, it also has loads of teenagers on Friday and Saturday nights which make it very mall-like. AMC 20 is in your typical suburban plaza with the likes of construction stores and marts, but it manages to only draw people who are coming to watch movies, not just kill time.

Like Rob said, it's clean, has plenty of room (I spent Superbad in the aisle laughing and no one in the packed place minded because their is so much space), it has a massive parking lot, and, while it is definitely NOT a "community theatre," it does the job well. I've never had a complaint about the place which is crucial for me.

Location: it's close to the freeway, yet far enough away (about a mile from an on-ramp off the main road) and not visible from the freeway that it doesn't get tons of rabble either. Great place.

Good theatre going experience with lots of screens!

    Inside the theatre
VERY comfortable seats.  Arm rests go up and down, seat back reclines, plenty of leg room (I was in the top row).  Not an exceptionally large theatre (theatre 14) so all seats were good.  They did have Rear Window Captioning for deaf and hard of hearing patrons which I thought was very cool.  I didn't see anyone with a viewer, so I don't know if this is an "always-on" deal or if someone had requested it.

    Parking
Plenty of parking (big spaces, that's weird to call out) with plenty of restaurants in the same plaza to make a convenient evening.  J. Alexander's, Bahama Breeze, Champp's all across the parking lot.

    Inside the building
Very clearly marked theatres with excellent signage inside.  The building seemed really new and was laid out very well.  Lots of exits and I saw a few concessions stands which is probably really nice when they're busy.

    Staff
Your typical movie theatre staff was present... High school and college kids who would rather be somewhere else.  The box office girl was pleasant and the ticket taker was polite, but no one was overly friendly.

    Price
$7.50 for Sunday matinee.  I skipped the concessions.

Nice big movie theatre in great location near I-275. With stadium-style seating, there's not a bad seat in the house. I love to get there early enough so I can sit in the first row and rest my feet on the metal bar because my legs are shrimpy.

They offer matinee discounts, but concessions are a little pricey. It's a great idea to get a MovieWatcher card because you get discounts on concessions...and if you go to enough movies, you get a free ticket!

They would get 5 stars if they had a bar!

The best theater-going experience in the area, hands down.

We're movie people.  We've visited every single theater complex within 20 miles, and this theater has always performed the best and been the most consistent.  Other local theaters we've attended have occassional (or frequent) issues with sound or picture, are overrun by teenagers, or have smaller screens and a subpar facility.

AMC Livonia is always clean, it's spacious, has HUGE screens, has always performed well, has easy parking, and is near lots of good resturaunts.  Sure, it's a 'mass market' theater, so don't expect many art-films (although they occasionally play some) but if you want a "Blockbuster" experience...this place is it.

The only thing that could make it better?  Adding a bar (like Emagine).  But I won't hold my breath.

    Just saw Grown-Ups (funny stuff)

Theater: Has screens big and small, had seats, worker took the ticket and smiled.
Snack bar: Has popcorn, pop, slushy's and the standard over priced junk.
    Bathrooms: Had many bathrooms.

Overall, the place was clean, things were orderly, and the clientele where decent (not too chatty or texting while watching) .

The Monday thru Thursday prices are 5 bucks, then 10 smackers on the weekend.
Parking was ample, but sometimes a little walk and other times you get lucky and get right up front...boooyah!

Had a problem not too long ago, and the place comped me 6 tickets without batting an eye, so management takes care of business.

THREE STARS because I hate hate hate the commercials, heck that's why people pay and go to the movies...big screen and supposed to be no commercials...oh well I guess I am old school like that!!!

This place is no dump and I will be back but I will still hate the commercials!

I wanted to keep this under wraps because it appears from the other reviews that it's not well known, but...

It's time to start scheduling your trips to the flicks on weeknights.  AMC is just five bucks a pop.  In truth, it's tough to justify shillin' out 10 bucks pre-snacks for a cinematic experience (unless it's The Dark Knight in IMAX...notable exception).  So, AMC is doing you a solid Monday-Thursday (including midnight openers...you betcha).  If that's not reason enough it's only one of the best theatres in Metro Detroit in terms of layout, cleanliness, location, seating, sound and picture.

    Book it!

Your common suburban multi plex theater offering lots of variety , over priced popcorn and watered down coke. In the intermediate period between the opening of Amc 10 and Amc 20 its nice to note the only improvements to be made where 10 more theaters. At least they're consistent. the complex houses lots of movie choices which are projected in low to substandard  quality on to medium size screens.

    +Positive+
    * Many movies to pick from
    * First run movies
    * Ample seating

    -Negative-
    * Too expensive
    * No real bang for your buck
    * Filled with middle schoolers on their first date

    Advice
Sit in the middle where there's a railing you can rest your feet on.

This place brings back so many memories for me from the 8 years I was back in Michigan.  From casual movie-going with friends to waiting in line hours before to see the first showing of a big movie (ie. LOTR, Harry Potter) it was great in my book.  It is the largest around that area without going to Emagine in Novi.

Location:  Great  location, off the freeway but not too close to it.  It shares its huge parking lot with many resteraunts but most of the time I could always find a good spot.  It's location is great because you can buy your tickets, go eat dinner right there and then walk over to the theatre and see your movie.  There is a Starbucks near by for some after movie chatting too.

Atmosphere:  Not over run with children and the place stays clean.

Ahhh AMC 20....saw many many movies here and have so many memories from here.  :)

I remember when these big stadium style theatres starting popping up in Metro-Detroit and how excited I was that they were infiltrating our area. I'm a picky moviegoer and I hate having heads in my way when I'm trying to watch so I am SO SO grateful for the stadium style seating. Star Southfield was the first but it was too far from my home in Dearborn. So when they opened this AMC Livonia I rejoiced! I promptly joined movie watchers and soon I was seeing movies left and right and getting free popcorn and sodas in the process.

Now I spend most of my time in Chicago because of my job but I still save most of my movie going excursions for AMC 20. It's just easier and far more comfortable than seeing a movie in Chicago to me and I'm home frequently enough to enjoy it. Nice spacious parking lot and its proximity to 275 makes getting here a breeze. A number of theatres means that as long as you get there early enough you won't' be faced with a sold out show (although they do happen). I'm one of those folks who likes to get a film early and get a good seat and AMC 20 makes that a comfortable option. They're great about opening the theatres well in advance of the movie starting so you can get your seat and get comfortable. Plenty of bench seating and arcade games outside in the lobby also help the time pass by faster before your film.

The concession stands are your standard fare and just as expensive as every other theatre but they have a number of options if you're hungry or thirsty and willing fork over the big bucks. They have a most all of the registers open during peak times so the lines do not get out of control big, which is nice. They also just recently opened an IMAX theatre which is a baby IMAX in that the screen size is not much larger but the projection quality is there. I find that somewhat of a copout (if you're going to say your IMAX and charge the prices then I expect a huge ass screen but that's just me) but it's nice to have another option in the area for the technology other than the Henry Ford (which has the honkin' screen size).

Bonus theatre feature: Cup holders and movable arm rests! Perfect for resting your drink in for easy access or lifting it away if you like a little more space or are a cuddler like me!

This theater is where Haggerty Man sees 90% of his movies.  The other reviews do a good job summarizng the ups and downs.

Ups: great sound, spacious parking, good seats, the bar for your feet!

Downs: few ushers, pricey on weekends, no bar for your drinks!

That said, you can grab an over-priced beverage at Champps or Bahama Breeze and head into the movie quite easily, or b.y.o. candy concessions from Target.

I do wish they offered more art films, as the art houses are pretty far from Haggerty Way.  But for blockbusters, like AVATAR, this is the place to be.

ONE FURTHER NOTE: this once-fresh plaza is starting to show its age.  Unlike the plaza with REI/Kroger, not much is done to upkeep the grounds.

I love this place... if only because I have so many awesome memories of coming here all through middle/high school. It's unfortunate that movies are so expensive these days, but otherwise I would come here more often. It's a great movie-going experience and they usually have a pretty wide selection of movies and showtimes.

at 13.00 per ticket (Avatar), one would think the staff could get their butts into the auditoriums to clean them between each showing like they are supposed to. but no... they are not able to do that because the management just doesn't care. this place has been like this since day one of opening over a decade ago. this is why I try to stay home rather than go out to the theaters.

also, the combos are a rip off... it's the same price if you buy them separately. it's supposed to be cheaper to buy a combo. the management blows you off when you ask about this by telling you to "contact AMC directly online". phooey.

Plenty of showtimes, comfy seats, 20 screens and yummy popcorn....these are the reasons I bypass the cinema a mile down the road from me to come to the AMC 20 which is a good 15 minutes away (on a good/traffic-free day).  Traffic at Eight mile and Haggerty can suck so leave a few minutes early if you need to drive through that area to get to this theatre at Seven Mile and Haggerty.  The parking lot and theatre can get very crowded at peak times, I definitely try to avoid it on Friday and Saturday nights.  Honestly though, I have been to the movies less than a handful of times this year but still....  Tickets can be expensive at peak times, but they run some amazing special during the week or maybe because it was matinee (?) because tickets last night were $5 each.  Also, don't forget your AMC moviewatchers card, the points rack up fast; I got a free large popcorn/pop combo!  The pop was the size of my head, the popcorn was enormous and deeee-licious!  The concession prices are through the roof of course, but that is only to be expected at the movies these days!  The theatres and bathrooms are super clean, staff is friendly and the air-conditioning is strong; everything is definitely great at this place!

i give amc 20 an a-ok. because the theatre is a nice, clean, & fun establishment. although it feels more and more like a security checkpoint at the airport. every day. first i have to show the cashier my id to prove im over 17 then they ask for my "guest" (girlfriend) because i can not buy more than one ticket unless they see id for the others then i am warned to keep my id out because there is a second checkpoint before i enter the theatre where they randomly select people who look to young for movies.. thats profiling! plus its just a movie.... anyone else think the whole worlds getting a little too uptight
