This theater is huge!  If you're trying to see a new release chances are they are showing it every half an hour.

I've come here a few times.  The people at the concessions don't seem to know what they're doing but they guys at the ticket counter do (thank goodness).

I really like the seating here.  Very comfortably spaced and both horizontally and vertically.  I'm a fan!

I'm sort of amazed I've never written a review for this place because I've been going here to see movies for years!  Right in the Times Square area is a theater that has both IMAX and 3D available for select movies.  This one is most convenient for me since it's right next to Port Authority (where I commute to and from daily).  It's a theater built with the regal theaters of old in mind, complete with a tall lobby with sweeping lines and curves in the architecture.  When it's not packed, it's quite a sight to behold, but the theater loses stars for how badly crowds are managed when there's a popular movie being played.  At that point the lobby turns into pandemonium as people try to use machines that don't have any clearly defined lines.  Worse, crowds at the machines then block access to the line to buy tickets at the back counter.  Whenever it's packed, I always find myself wondering if this arrangement could have been done better.

To its compliment however, the theater has maintained its impressive decor and cleanliness over the years.  The bathrooms are still in good shape and the concession stands have actually been upgraded over the years.  Only one gripe: they should open more stands when there's a huge crowd.  I recently saw six lines on one floor, about twelve people deep each (an argument even broke out).  When I asked if the stands one floor up were open I was told no.  Odd if you know you're going to have a big opening (this was for "Avengers").  I've also seen theaters that have small carts staff brings around with soda and pre-prepared bags of popcorn.  These would definitely come in handy in this type of situation.

The theaters themselves are great however.  Comfortable seats and amazingly well kept considering how many people can fit into the theater at one time.  The staff gets it cleaned up really quickly after each show and they've always had a good attitude when I've had to ask them questions.

Overall, this is a good theater but when big popular movies are opening expect tons of crowds and a bit of chaos.

INCOMPETENT, RUDE STAFF, POORLY FOCUSED PROJECTOR - THE ABSOLUTE WORST CINEMA EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE - RUINED A MOVIE I'D WAITED 26 YEARS TO SEE!

I never usually ask for my money back, even after a bad experience. Often I feel like the cinema itself can't be blamed for say - assholes talking over the movie, or things like that... but this was the first time I've had an experience so bad because of the way the theatre was run. They just did every imaginable thing wrong.

I was meeting with about 8 people and we wanted good seats, so I got there a full 1 hour and 50 minutes early and waited (on my own) to hold a place in line.

Now, alarm bells rang loud an clear from early on. First of all, there was no line and the screen I was sent to had the name of a different movie on the door. I asked staff, but I was repeatedly assured by the slack-jawed morons that I was in the right place and that the sign was a technical error.

So about half an hour before the movie started, some other people looking for the movie (which was the AVENGERS by the way) just walked past me and my lack of line and into the theatre. I shrugged, went inside and held a line of seats for my friends. A few other people trickled in, but by the time the credits started (20 minutes early), there was barely anyone there.

The final screaming indicator that we were in the wrong place was right before the first trailer started and an elderly woman two rows down told my friend and me to shut up (remember, nothing was actually playing yet, we don't talk during movies). I realized that she was nowhere near the target demographic of the Avengers and left the auditorium on a quest for truth...

So I asked around. Remember, I'd spoken to three gormless members of AMC staff by this point who had repeatedly told me that I was in the right place... I finally found the ONE who knew that the screening was on an entirely different floor. And she was a total dick about it, chastising me for buying my tickets early. Apparently that is the reason why our tickets sent us to the wrong screen and we should have known better.

Seriously, a fucking hand-written notice pinned outside the door directing us to the appropriate screen would have been enough, but that is far more effort than anyone involved wanted to put into it.

So we arrived just in time for the movie and understandably wound up with shittier seats than people who had been waiting for so long should have gotten. But it didn't end there...

The movie finally started and by the time the scenes with the subtitles rolled around another problem became apparent. The top and bottom of the screen were cut off, not only halving the subs and making them unreadable, but also severing the actors heads from the eyes-up for a great many scenes, making it impossible to really get into the movie.

Aaand of course the projectionist didn't refocus the projector at all, so it was like that throughout the movie. It's impossible to get invested in a scene when you're trying to psychically will the characters to duck into view.

Hell, if not for his appearances in every other fucking movie, I wouldn't even know Nick Fury wore an eye-patch.

In the end, the only thing that I managed to enjoy were the action scenes (In terms of composition, they were centre-heavy), but the over-all movie and the experience was utterly ruined by it all.

It's especially frustrating because I've not only been waiting for this since before the technology to make it even existed; I've also been trying to avoid anything that might spoil it (up to and including a majority of the trailers). I went in essentially knowing nothing about the movie.

So most unforgivably, I KNOW I would of loved it and I didn't even really enjoy it. That shitty cinema robbed me of the experience.

No one there knew what they were doing, except for the guy who refunded our tickets without putting up any kind of resistance (or even asking why we wanted a refund). And even THAT robbed me of the satisfaction of yelling at someone...

Always crowded, rude audiences, and under-staffed.  Line takes forever because they only ever have two people working the ticket counter.  They show a lot of good movies, especially in IMAX, so coming here is a necessary evil.  I just wish the experience was better.

I think this theater takes heat because it's in the thick of the tourist masses.  And, historically they don't exactly seem to have their A-Team working when you need them the most.  I'm pleased to report that in my most recent visit, this has changed.

I was shocked that the doors were actually open at 9:00am for a 9:40 showing of The Avengers.  Nice.  And, since I'm the kind of guy who eats popcorn and drinks Coke for breakfast, I am happy to tell you that the concession stand was a breeze.

Also, a plus for this location is there are so many theaters and times to choose from - options are a good thing.

Why why WHY did I go to Times Square on a Saturday night to catch a 3-hour Turkish epic? My boyfriend and I were bored and it so happened that this was the nearest AMC. We braved through throngs of chaos to find solace in this ginormous theater with its meandering corridors and dozen escalators. I actually felt like I was in a completely different place. Seats were comfortable and the screen, picture quality and sound was perfect.

When it says 8:45 on the ticket I guess it means the previews are over or at least the previews are going to start. The previews and the movie itself didn't start till maybe 30-45 minutes after 8:45! There was a lull, we were just staring at a blank screen. At least we had a little bit of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square.

This theatre is 2 avenues from my building and therefore i frequent it the most along with the regal opposite it. I find that this theater gets way too crowded during the weekends however there a lot of showtimes available so its not too bad. I prefer the regal because of the rpx theatre. Its so much better than the imax.

Saw Avengers here 11:3am show on Saturday 5/5/12.   Great movie.  The theatre?  Huge,  took 3 escalators to get to theatre 9 stories above the street.  Ordered nachos and Sprite.  Tasty.  Employees,  some were snobbish, some were nice.  Theatre I saw the Avengers in was really nice. Wide leather seats.  Excellent projection and sound. Only $11.00.  Bathroom, the one I went to was clean.   But the place is so huge, it's easy to get disorientated as where everything is.  And the best part?  No slide show projection or ads before the trailers started.  Just a blank screen.  Yay.

It hadn't occurred to me to review a movie theater that plays blockbusters but I had to give kudos to AMC Empire 25 after coming here yesterday for the opening night of The Hunger Games.  I was told that the opening night of the second Twilight movie at AMC Kips Bay lead to a melee (hair pulling, jumping over seats).  After the attendant raised the velvet rope and made an announcement that the theater was opened, people bum rushed the line-I am happy to report that this did not happen here.  Quite the opposite-staff very efficiently coordinated the line, provided multiple instructions and updates whereby movie-goers patiently went in single file to their seats.  To all the attendants who participated in the coordination, I say management should give them FREE goobers!

*It would have been nice for my bathroom stall to have toilet paper but oh well.

I've been here twice on two vacations. During my recent trip:
1.) The lights were left on when we walked in, and I had to turn them off when the movie started (someone should have been there, in the projection room, when the movie started).
2.) The previews didn't have sound (before the movie started).
3.) I used to work for AMC theaters and I was always under the impression they pride themselves on perfection.
4.) 1 star for the movie playing without a hitch. 1 star for it being clean. The stupid mistakes ruined it.

So this movie theatre is somewhere that I USED to frequent all the time. The staff is very helpful I have had problems before with not being able to find a seat and they have been more than gracious in refunding me my money for another time. Also there is a great convenience of having two movie theatres across from each other and the train steps away.

BUT this theatre took a turn for the worse for me roughly two weeks ago when I went to see Deep Blue Sea on Thursday evening.  Now my friend and I were extremely excited that when we got there that the movie was just about to start so we quickly bought our tickets and dashed upstairs.  Since the movie was about to start we were hoping that we would be able to get a seat and much to our pleasure when we got to the theatre it was only us.... Now I do not know about anyone else but this is my dream going to the movies and having the theatre to myself and being able to talk as much as I want to the characters and have a great interactive experience.

Now you are probably wondering well what could have possibly be wrong everything is going so smoothly. Well given the fact that this is a metropolitan city and clearly it is filthy here it can only be assumed that there are rodents that are around. Well whilst walking up the stairs to find the perfect seat what did my friend see skipping up the stairs a frigging mouse well I LEFT no questions out I had to GO!!! So finally my friend came out because he was not moving as fast as me and we went down to customer services. I explained the situation to them and gave the theatre number 14 and the guy said oh really there was a mouse hmm ok let me make a note of that, that is crazy though we put down trap. NOW I am glad that they are trying to do something but I mean come on we were not on the first floor we were high up in the theatre. Well we got readmit tickets and yeah I will not be returning to this theatre because that really just did it for me. But I have had a lot of good memories there I am just not trying to take any home with me if you know what I mean.

Crrrrrrap. You call that an IMAX? I thought this was New York!! That screen was regular sized, not super sized! I could have saved my 18 dollars and waited til I got back to Ireland to watch Katniss run around a forest in my regular cinema. Also fix the damn escalators so they don't break every time a blockbuster comes out.

Between this and the Regal across the street they will have all the current movies showing. What I like about this one though is the early morning matinees. Seriously, regular price for movies is ridiculous and this AMC is probably the most expensive one around. Don't get me wrong though this is probably one of the few movie theaters in NYC where they actually clean the floors.

Buying tickets from their many automated kiosks is quick and easy. However getting to the actual theater where your show is and leaving is a bit of a journey. Mostly because this theatre shares the building with Dave and Busters, Applebees and a few other stores that seem to occupy the upper levels. This can make finding the actual theater entrance a little confusing.

If you happen to catch the elevator then it's a little less of a problem. I'm always scratching my head that you can only see the one escalator for the plethora of people coming through there on a daily basis and you never exit the same way you get in either. So give yourself 10 minutes extra to get to your seat if you come to this theater as just finding your way is apart of the movie going experience itself.

Hey, why not? I'm gonna upgrade the AMC Empire 25 to 5 stars. I really like this theater. The screens are big, the seats are remarkably comfortable, and it's reasonably clean. I also like that they're not afraid to turn up the volume. (Yes, I am of the opinion that an action movie should be just about as loud as being at a nightclub or rock concert.) And they've got All The Movies.
Plus I appreciated that they let me upgrade my "Silver Experience" tickets to a movie that was in its first week of release (for an extra fee, but it still came out to a discount, and they could have just said 'no'). Of course, I could also just have bought tickets to a different movie and walked into the one I wanted to see. But, I was honest.

My favorite theater to catch the latest blockbuster movies in. Their screens and sound systems are phenomenal. Seating is comfortable enough to sit in for a 2-hour long movie. I've never tried their snacks before so no comment on the food.

I also like being in a theater that's packed with people. It's an amazing experience when the audience laughs and cries together along with the movie and it's what I love most about going to such an enormous theater.

Some people may find having to go up a million and one escalators to get to their theater to be annoying. I find it an endearing part of New York City; The bigger the better. Big movie theaters make the adventure of watching a movie with friends more exciting and memorable.

I saw "Contraband" here last night.  We purchased our tickets on Fandango but arrived about 10 minutes after showtime.  We were sent to guest services where a rep tried to get us to see the next show - with a 2-hour wait.  Um, no thanks.

So we missed the first 10 minutes of the movie but enjoyed it nonetheless.  The seats were comfy, crowd was fine. Food, of course, is extremely expensive.  Go with the cameo combo: it's a small popcorn and soda for $8.00.  Sadly its the best value at the concession stand.  If you're smart, you will buy snacks at Duane Reade beforehand.

Overall, it's a good theater in the heart of Times Square.

This is usually my favorite theater because it is big and close to my apartment. The last few times I've been here though it has just been dirty and unkept. A lot of the arm rests are broken on the chairs and the they just kind of hang there almost level with the seat. Also, the kiosks out front have always given me trouble, whether buying are just printing fandango tickets, I have to try about 3 or 4 before I find one that works. Also, an obvious problem being that this place is in Times Square, but you just come out of the theater like wedged between tourists and have to fight your way out. The one thing this place lacks, which Regal across the street has, is the coke machines with all those flavors. matinees here are a really good price at like 6$ if before noon. After that, movies are just soo damn expensive!

Went today for a special screening of Casablanca.  Nice time.  Seating is fairly comfortable but could be better.  What bothered me was the escalators.  Not enough of them and all single file.  Plus I was four levels above street level.  Easy enough going up as the audience trickeled in but going down when the audience all leaves at once it is annoying.  Someone is going to stand on the escalator rather than walk down and the experience is frustrating. I don't go to movie theatres much so - why should I care? Oh - bathrooms are on the small side so get in line again.  I did like the self-service ticketing.  I had reserved a ticket so I went to one of the terminals, swiped my credit card and a ticket printed out fast.

Went here on Saturday 1/28/12 to catch Shame at 8:10. Should've known it was gonna be shitty after getting there well in advance to use the automated machines to pick up the ticket I'd bought online because I wound up standing behind 2 guys who (a) didn't know how to operate the machine, and (b), thought it best to try and decide exactly what they wanted to see with 10,000 people standing on line behind them to get their tickets.

After I finally ascended to the top of the Empire State Bldg to reach the theater, I discovered I was lucky to get one of the few remaining seats. Of course all during the coming attractions and during a good bit of the movie people decided it was en vogue to walk all over the damn place trying to find a seat even though you'd have to be blind not to see the theater was filled beyond capacity.

Also, hello --- why were kids who were under 18 in an NC-17 movie???? I'm not talking children per se, but you could tell they were teenagers and younger than 18.

Major con: whatever action packed movie that was playing in the adjacent theater kept bleeding and rumbling into our theater noticeably during the more quieter parts of our movie. I don't need to hear a damn train rolling through when actors are engaging in normal dialogue.

I guess the only good thing was that people were quiet and laughed when appropriate. I was reminded why I stay away from places where tourists and transplants congregate. I wouldn't go back to see another movie here if I won a billion dollars!

I caught an indie film here early on a wednesday. I have almost no complaints. $6 for the matinee, friendly staff, bathrooms were clean & I rather enjoyed the 5 escalator trip up to the theater; as a tourist it provided a great view of the city. Maybe its different at peak hours, but I thought it was great.
Only complaint would be the homeless man snoring in the back of the theater, no biggie I suppose. It is manhattan, and its cold out there.

    This is nicely built theater.

There is a disconnect between the staff and getting you to the show with what you need.

The staff down stair did not give Almost a dozen at our show Our3d glasses.  We were on the top floor of 6 or 7. each of us had to wait 10 or so minutes for the elevator down.

The also did not disclose that the John Carter show was on a flow that did not have concessions, another elevator scenario. There was a smell.

At concessions there is never a crew leader or managers that step in that know when shows are starting where they move a line that can usually average 20 minutes, or worse to get to the show late.

The staff is 5x as friendly as AMC 86th / 3rd (so many below 86th st refuse to ever go there ). However I got a ice tea, Gold Peak that tasted like bad water with a little foreign taste. I Got the older corn after the other machine just finished popping. I asked for a switch and have corn were tiny and cold. I tried exchanging the tea and I ran out of time and just threw it out.

I know theater pay little, and the these young adults are not hospitality majors. I saw a paper in the elevator to smile however sometimes it really is that some of us com from a different country.

One day at the theater I want a Manager to led by example about making sure it is a very good experience for us, after we by the ticket.

Sometimes, I like to act like a old lady and wake up extra early in the morning and go to the movies on the weekends, and when I do that I usually go to this theater.

Since I go so early, the theater is relatively clean and quiet..and they're no annoying crumb-snatching kids running around to annoy you. The staff is helpful, but not the friendliest..which I don't really care about since I'm not there to make new friends...I'm there to watch a movie. The self serve butter dispenser in the concession area will be the death of me one of these days, and will eventually be the cause for my early onset "beetus" in the near future. My only gripe is the ticket machines in the lobby you use to buy tickets with your debit/credit/gift card. I had to go to four different machines to find one that actually worked. I was almost forced to go to the ticket booth and interact with someone! Not cool......

Pros: Big screen and huge theater.

Cons: Super dirty. Seats and floors were extremely dirty. Bathrooms too.

I like this location. I can always find a good seat no matter what movie or day/ time. Tickets are what they always have been for the past 4 years - too expensive. But if you're slick like me you may be lucky and sneak into another movie. It can be difficult though because they have a lot of staff here. Ladies line is always long.

Despite it's location in Times Square, I'm a fan of this location in NYC and prefer it to others I've visited.  It's a short walk from my apt so that itself is a plus for me.  Yes, tickets are around $13 but that is standard for NYC and at least here you are given comfortable seats, self-serve kiosks, huge screens, and great sound.  PLUS, if you opt to see a movie before noon, the cost is only $6!  That alone is why I continue to visit this location rater than rack up any rewards on my card from its competitor, Regal, across the street.

Bonus:  On every floor, you may exit to their balcony-type area.  So for you people who love taking pictures with ridiculous screens and tall buildings in the background, it's a great photo-op for you!

Pretty decent movie theatre in Times Square.  Clean, expansive, but didn't like having to ride the escalator multiple floors before actually reaching the theatres.

Standard concession fare:  popcorn, candy, nachos, soda.

Seating comfortable.  Saw the movie Ides of March!

The chaos of being in Times Square is a little much, so unless I'm in the area for some reason, i.e. to go to a Broadway or Off-Broadway show and have time to kill before or after, I probably won't be returning to this movie theatre.

    3.5 stars...

    Pros:
    -GIANT screens
    -Big comfortable chairs
    -Lots of leg room
    -Lots of movies and showtimes
-Lots of self serve ticket kiosks
    -Easy to get to
-Connects to Dave and Busters and Applebees on your way out

    Cons:
-Very pricey ($13 for a regular movie ticket)
-On the outskirts of Times Sq so you have to deal with crowds of people outside
-Annoying maze of skinny escalators to leave theater

I've been here a number of times.  It's right in the heart of Times Square but every time I go, even though it is crowded the lines move quickly especially if you're using self serve and I've never had trouble finding a seat.  The theater is pretty nice, clean, but being in a central location, numerous times I've gone where the ghetto crowd ruins the movie by yelling at the screen.

    Don't eat there!
The theaters look fine. Comfortable seats, and good leg room. As long as you avoid the dirty seats. I guess they do not always clean in between the shows.
OK, you sit down, get confortable, the movie starts. You dive into the popcorn. OK at first, then you start tasting something funny ... what is that? ... try another kernel and you find it all entangled in a long hair  Yuck! That's disgusting! At the same time you realize what was the funny taste: rancid oil!

Are you going to miss the movie to go complain? One thing is sure: you are totally disgusted and cannot completely enjoy the movie with that awful rancid taste in your mouth that won't wash away.
And what's the purpose of going to the concession stand to complain after the movie?  No reparation is possible at that point: they just ruined a perfectly good movie for you.

A nice theater with a few faults:

    a) it's located in tourist central, where sidewalk traffic will slow to a crawl, and  ticket sellers will pounce during the interim with offers to see cheap theater/comedy shows.

    b) the nearly consistently disruptive crowd; if you've ever enjoyed a movie in silence, this theater is noise karma balancing itself: talking, texting, phone use galore

Nice screens and sound, many showtimes, generally pretty clean, and stadium seating makes it A-ok.

Bed bugs, rude employees, and the WORST patrons in NYC. This place attracts weirdos and kids, most of which make noise and take their shoes off during the films. They don't do a great job cleaning up in between screenings either. Today we saw TONS of garbage stacked in the seats - not hard to miss.

I recommend going a few extra blocks to the UWS.

Huge Cinema - you could seriously get lost in here.  I thought it was going to be a ZOO because of it being located in Times Square - but that was not the case.  I went to a 2p.m. Tuesday showing of the movie 'SHAME' and there were maybe 10 other singles along with me.  The theatre was clean, comfortable, and the sound was great.  No complaints.
