LOVE LOVE LOVE AMBROSIA! This bakery is a must if you're visiting Baton Rouge and for several reasons! The Fresh Strawberry cake is just unreal! I fell in love with Ambrosia because of this amazing and signature cake! The cake is so moist and the icing is just perfect (not too sweet at all). The icing on the cake also contains strawberries in it. If you're looking for a decadent strawberry cake, this one will NOT disappoint.
I've recently visited this amazing bakery a few days ago and decided to try a few other things. I've been on a macaroon phase, so I HAD to try theirs and was very pleasantly surprised by how good they were! Unlike Sucre's macaroons, these aren't overly sweet. These also aren't airy like Sucre's, but nice and wholesome. I was only able to try the vanilla, lemon, chocolate, and coffee (they ran out of strawberry and pistachio sadly). My fave of the four would definitely be vanilla! SO gooddd! But don't get me wrong, they were all pretty satisfying.
I then bought the Pecan Praline king cake with cream cheese for my sister, and OMG it was just PERFECTION! I loveddd it! Even better than a lot of places in NOLA! The cream cheese was nice and subtle, just the way I like it. The bread was most, and the praline pecan topping had the desired amount of sweetness. My sisters and I were big fans!
I seriously can't wait to come back to Ambrosia to try some more pastries and goodies! They even offer sandwiches and breakfast foods. Ambrosia is a clear winner in anyone's book. -

Decided to drop by to pick up a small cake for dinner.
We got a small 8 inch Strawberry Cake. Very good! The cake was nice and moist. LOVE LOVE LOVE the whipped icing with strawberry bits mixed in. The frosting is not too sweet either.
Also tried the mini pecan pie...very good as well.
Will pick up more cakes if we're ever in town! -

I have made two purchases from this bakery. The parking lot is spacious. You get a warm feeling when you walk inside this bakery. For my first order, I went there to buy a King Cake in Feb. 2011. It was at least 2 weeks before Mardi Gras, and the store was packed with customers. They had displayed several steel shelves full of boxes of King Cakes of all flavors. Not sure about the sizes. My boyfriend and I could not find the flavor we were looking for so we chose Blueberry. We were originally looking for one with cream cheese in it. We also bought 2 cupcakes from the storefront cases. I got a red velvet cupcake and he got some other type; I can't remember what he got. Both cupcakes were very fresh though. The icing was very rich and sweet. Definitely buttercream! The King Cake was adequate. It wasn't the worst I've ever had, but it wasn't the best either. The breading (the cake dough) was fresh, but the filling was minimal, however it tasted really good, very blueberry. It wasn't a fresh blueberry filling, more of an artificial flavoring filling. All smooth, no real blueberries in it.
This year, on today's date, I ordered 2 more King Cakes. One mini Lemon filled King Cake that feeds 4 people, then another regular sized Blueberry Cream Cheese King Cake. I actually placed my order ahead of time this year and picked it up so I wouldn't have to fight a crowd or take the chance they would be out of my flavor. They do not do 1/2 and 1/2 fillings. Only 1 filling with or without cream cheese or you can get the Traditional King Cake which only has cinnamon in it, basically a cinnamon danish. Both King Cakes were definitely fresh, but the fillings were minimal. As for the cream cheese filling that you have to pay $2.00 extra for, it was BARELY there! I did not even taste it. They may have put about 2 Tablespoons of it in the whole cake for the regular sized one. That's not very much at all and seeing as I had to pay extra for that, it should have been plentiful. Very big disappointment. Not sure I will order another King Cake from here. Although the overall experience with the cake was good and it tasted ok, it wasn't "blow my socks off" delicious, it could have used more cinnamon, and the cream cheese was a joke. By the way, when I called before going to pick it up, I could not get through on their line. This was midday around 2 p.m. or so, and they were not answering their phone, so the automated system asked if I wanted to leave my name and phone number and they would return my call. That does me no good when I am ready to come pick up my order and want to know if it's ready! Good thing I did not need that for a party! I had to use the automated voice system to get to a manager who transferred me directly to the front of the bakery. They gladfully answered. So why were they not taking the calls? When I talked with the woman who answered, she informed me it was not terribly busy. I just don't understand that. Anyway, as for this bakery, it's more of a judgement call. They have fresh cakes and baked goods, but I have had better elsewhere. Your call. I may or may not go back here. Next year I will probably choose another bakery and try their King Cakes. -

Amazing cakes, cute store, and so many different options! This place has some of the best King cake I've ever tasted. My personal favorites would have to be the zulu and the praline pecan.

I love their fresh strawberry cakes because it has whipped cream topping instead of your typical super sweet frosting. The Scarlet O'Hara cake is a great choice if you have a chocolate craving. It's chocolate devils cake with turtle, chocolate buttercream and raspberry filling, covered with chocolate icing and a fudge pour. It's very decadent.

King cakes are also very popular. My favorite is either plain cream cheese king cake or the pecan praline with cream cheese filling and topped with caramel and pecan topping. You can special order king cakes year round and they ship. Service is typically prompt and friendly. -

i love mardi gras and i love getting the chocolate king cake from ambrosia's during mardi gras! (actually i usually start buying them right christmas...) i started getting this king cake about 9 years ago. i would cart them to austin to share with college friends, then to new orleans to share with with law school friends. everyone loves it. people are always excited when i bring it to town!
good thing ambrosia only makes this one time a year...because once i start eating it, I can't stop! next thing i know, i only have 1/3 of the king cake left! -

I love Ambrosia Bakery for their amazing baked goods, I just wish their sandwiches and breakfast rolls were better.
I fell in love with Ambrosia Bakery after hearing about them giving away king cakes to support NPR during last year's Mardi-gras fund drive. I went in and tried a wide assortment of their miniature cakes and other baked good and I was not only floored, I was hooked.
Since then I have been back about once a month, making it a point to stop in every time I go to the Lowes or Petsmart in the shopping plaza just across the highway. After a while I fell under their spell and believed that since their baked goods were so amazing that everything else they made must also be amazing as well.
Unfortunately this assumption lead me to question the logic of buying a sandwich at bakery. The first time my illusions about this place were shattered was when I purchased a sausage and cheese breakfast roll, which they keep under a heat lamp behind the counter. Compared to everything else I had previously eaten at this place I considered this to be sub par and wondered why they even kept it on their menu. The second time my illusions about the place were shattered was when I ordered a sandwich instead of baked goods, and again found myself disappointed with the results.
As a bakery this place is the most amazing in the Baton Rouge Area, as a sandwich shop and a place to get a quick breakfast, not so much. While the sandwich and breakfast roll were by no means disgusting, they just didn't stand up to the quality I had grown to expect from their baked goods of which I have sampled and enjoyed many varieties. -

Ambrosia Bakery gets all 5 stars from me for being one of the finest bakeries in all of Baton Rouge as they came through for me and my group with a fine anniversary themed cake. The cake itself was delicious, well decorated, and contained a photo of the happy couple that was sent via email. They handled everything beautifully over the phone and assured us the cake would be done in the short time alloted and any way we wanted.
The cake came out masterfully, decorated with plenty of love and care, while tasting sweet and fluffy. Prices are not bad here, especially for how well the cakes are done. I would use these folks again in a heart beat. -

I give it 5 stars because they are one of the few people who make REAL (and I mean real) Red Velvet cake! Not the food coloring red velvet cake.. this is the REAL DEAL and the cream cheese icing is light and amazing!
Try the large red velvet cupcakes!! You can pre order them a few days in advance.. they are as moist and delicious as the real thing
the Red Velvet cake is a staple at our Christmas dessert table. -

Ambrosia bakery is my favorite bakery anywhere bar none. Their lemon cake is, well, ambrosia, especially fresh out of the fridge case and icy cold. Seriously, get a slice and eat it in the store at one of their little patisserie tables. They also have a nice little selection of finger-cakes, so you can sample different cakes and sweets without going overboard $-wise.
Excellent brownies, although those could definitely do with some frosting.
This is my favorite place to buy birthday cakes, though a bit expensive at $30 it is WELL worth it, and you can even get half-and-half cakes so you don't overdose on one type of sugary confection. -

I'd been here once before and wasn't overwhelmed with the petit fors I had: they were too sugary and had too much almond flavoring.
But my second visit was awe-inspiring. I went earlier in the day than my first visit and the range of pastries displayed was dazzling. I wanted to try all of them.
I settled for a doughnut and a cupcake. The doughnut was addictively good: I could have eaten a dozen. And the cupcake, while also being a little heavy on the almond flavoring, was also really, really good. For one thing, it's a reasonable size, not one of the those monster cupcakes a lot of specialty cupcake bakeries serve. And it had just the right amount of icing. The cake was moist and light and the icing was fluffy.
I've read complaints about the service on this site, but the woman who waited on me could not have been nicer - which says something,c ause the place was packed with people buying king cakes. -

One of the best king cakes I've ever had came from here, but that isn't what earned this place 5 stars. The Fresh Louisiana Strawberry cake is the reason for the rating. It is incredible.
This unassuming little bakery just puts out the best confectionaries in Baton Rouge. -

BANANA CAKE. TRY IT.
Best bakery in Baton Rouge. We've tried almost every bakery around and trust me, this is the one. Yes, the strawberry cake lives up to the hype, but it's the banana cake that really gets my mouth watering. We order the banana cake for my birthday every year. The prices aren't bad, either....they're about what you can expect from a bakery of this caliber. -

This is the best bakery in Baton Rouge. Your eyes become rose colored the minute you walk into this place. Everything is shiny and new and YOU WANT ONE of each! Had the deli lunch. The lady at the counter was slow but courteous. My wrap came out fresh and delicious. Could not pass the opportunity to have a sweet treat so I ordered a strawberry shortcake. It was out of this world. Now I am off to take a good nap. Thanks Ambrosia.

They don't call this place "Ambrosia" for nothing! This has to be one of the best--if not the best--bakery in Baton Rouge. If you're a fan of red velvet cake like I am, then it's worth it to splurge and spring for one from Ambrosia. The frosting itself is a robust statement regarding how professional this place is. The cakes here are works of art legitimately fit for the gods.

This bakery is fantastic but as noted very pricey. You see quite a few reviews about the strawberry cake. Have to throw my vote in there for it as well. Has to be the best cake from a bakery I ever tasted. This cake for me is worth the splurge.
