What girl isn't deathly afraid to get their luscious locks trimmed??? We all know when we say "trim please" you end up looking like some version of Mary Tyler Moore.
So as you can see by my severe hair cut anxiety and my neurotic feelings about trusting anyone with a pair of scissors on my seriously tangled mane you can rest assure this review is true.
I walked into ambiance for convenience, price, and atmosphere (still nervous). I was greeted kindly and sat down with a pretty stylist Laura. The moment I sat down my potential bob nerves were calming as she assured me length would stay. She was gentle as I gave her numerous threats and the stink eye about cutting my hair and I have to say she did a fabulous job. She washed my hair with a massage that left me tingling, cut my hair (but left the length - pure talent) and finished up with a nice blow dry.
All n all- great experience and I suggest to any hair freak to check out this salon- they do not butcher they merely trim if needed.
thankyouverymuch
The owner Tom is an artist, and a true magician with hair.
I have fine, curly, shoulder-length hair. I like to keep it low-maintenance, and I don't want to have to spend hours styling it. Tom cuts it every 6 weeks, and all I have to do is get out of the shower and let my hair dry. Tom advised me on great products to use, which keeps my hair in good condition and looking good.
I tried many hairdressers when I moved to L.A. from Paris -- none of them were satisfactory. I walked into Ambiance by chance 6 years ago, and have never looked back since. During my many visits, I have seen all sorts of people walk in, including the hair-challenged type: they always walk out looking good, whether they are hip youngsters or old ladies.
Bonus: the staff is very friendly, competent, it's always easy to get an appointment, and the prices are reasonable compared to other hairdressers on the Westside.
I have enlisted my husband since: he used to go to any barber before, now he is happy to pay the price to get a fantastic haircut that makes him look great and lasts for at least 3 months.
This is my neighborhood salon, and I am very faithful to Niki. She does a great cut and highlight, which inspite of the plethora of salons in LA, has been remarkably hard for me to find, having high standards for my styling.
This is a small place and very personal. The laid back vibe is consistent with the whole Ocean Park scene, particularily on Sundays when I go. Grab a coffee from Peets, some fruit from the Farmers Market, then chill in the salon for a quality cut.
Works for me.
1) Go to Ambiance
2) Ask for Niki
3) Let her do her thing
I just got my hair done here and Niki is amazing! She gave me a sweet A-line and she is easily one of the coolest stylists I've been to in LA. She really took the time to figure out my hair before she started and made sure my cut was right. When the color didn't turn out exactly right the first time she re-did it and offered to let me come in for a touch up for free in 2 weeks! I'll definitely be making regular appointments with her!
There was only one other girl in the salon but she seemed knowledgeable as well and the whole vibe of the place was pretty laid back and cool. They have an intro $99 for cut and color or highlights.
Hey - what more can you ask for than wowing your friends in NYC -
with color and cut from Tommy Madaio who owns Ambiance Salon. I just returned from NYC and saw friends that I haven't seen in years. They all remarked how glamorous I looked. Not bad for a girl from Brooklyn......
Great salon in landmark building on the corner of Ocean Park and Main in Santa Monica. Across the street from the Sunday farmer's market and 2 blocks from the beach. Nice environment and fun, goodlooking and interesting staff.
I walk over, but parking is easy in the city lot across the street or at the site of the farmer's market during the week and Saturdays.
Hi every body,
Just in case you are not happy with your hair stylist or you are knew in the west side and you are looking for a great hair stylist and great customer service. AMBIANCE HAIR STUDIO is the place to go. I lived in the valley and moved to Venice a few years ago. I had so many problems finding the right person until I found Luis Franco from Ambiance Salon. I hated my hair and ended up cutting it myself... big mistake. I went to a famous salon on Main st. The guy was nice although, He had no idea on what I wanted to get done. I let him style my hair BIG mistake # 2. I came out of there Looking like a rocker. I was so upset with the mistakes I made. I was so desperate to find some one to shave my hair. I went from Salon to Salon and no one wanted to cut it... I guess It look pretty bad.Until, I found Luis... He totally made my day. He was nice enough to stay late that night and did a wonderful job. I went from looking like a rocker to looking like a news weather girl. at least that's what my boyfriend said. On my second visit I met the owner of the salon and let him know what a great guy (Luis ) was... Now every time I go I feel like home. They are all very nice.
The owner's not very personable (that would be Tommy), but the location is great and I hear he does great work, and the girls really make up for it! Lora is the only one I've let touch my hair since I moved here in 2005 and had a fiasco at some over-rated, over-priced place in Beverly Hills. She really fixed the botch bob-do I had and has maintained my hair color and style almost impeccably since. Niki, a newcomer, is bubbly and a great stylist from what I've seen. A little pricey and borderline pretentious on most days (Sundays during the farmers market is the coolest, most relaxed time to go get your hairs did----no Tommy (owner) and ergo---less angst in the air, as well as cooler, more hip music and the girls candy and lora are the only ones there cranking out awesome work all day!!! Tell them I sent ya'! I love how no matter what they do for your hair (style, color or whatever) they put the formula or cut preferences right in so the next time you come in, they can have a pre-knowledge of what they can suggest and/or do. Try parking behind the building of the salon across from the library up the little one-way street off main st. just north of ocean park, otherwise angle spots in front of the library. If not, you'd be best to park in the meters across from the Edgemar.
