This past weekend I spent a few days at my parents' cabin in the Pocono Mountains. One night I suggested we go out to dinner. The first restaurant we went to (the one I had in mind when we ventured out) was on fire -- literally, so we got back in our car and went down the road to see what else was around. We ended up at The Amber Steakhouse. We pulled in and went inside. Half of it was a pub, the other half was a restaurant.

We accidently walked into the pub side, but there was an employee standing by the door (as if he was the host), so we figured he'd seat us. He just looked at us and said, "Do you need something?" He said it in a somewhat rude tone of voice.  I was like, "We would like to have dinner." He directed us to walk down the hall, which we did... and we found the hostess station.

Once we were seated, it seemed like a decent enough place. The waitress was pleasant, but not phenominal. She wasn't as attentive as she could have been, considering it wasn't THAT crowded. But, we aren't picky people. So, we ordered. About 20 minutes later she came back and told my mother that the item she ordered (meatloaf) had run out. So, she ordered something different. Then the waitress came back and told my mom they ran out of iced tea (maybe they were out to get my mom, I don't know).

After a while, we got our food, and our waitress was MIA for quite some time. We all had empty water/beverage glasses and no one to fill them. Finally our waitress came by to take an adjacent table's order, and I had to quickly blurt out an order for 4 diet cokes, because she was not about to stop and notice we needed something (not to mention, most of our plates were empty by this point). By the time she came back with our cokes, we were all done eating, so I asked for the check.

And then when she brought it, she stood over our shoulders as my dad reviewed the bill. She was waiting for him to pull his money out. I thought that was kinda rude to just stand over us like that. I mean, what a great time to finally be attentive, huh? Anyway, the food was okay, but we got out of there... and I don't plan on going back.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Not to be harsh, because I understand restaurants have good and bad days. However, Amber Steakhouse must have 365 bad days a year.

Me and my boyfriend visited the Poconos for a weekend vacation. I discovered Amber Steakhouse online and the menu provided seemed promising.

    1) When we arrived, it smelled musky and damp. Lighting was terrible.

    2) The hostess (or whatever she was) was coughing and hacking into her hands and simply grabbed two menus and showed us our table. She didn't even greet us with a "Hello".

3)The menu was hand-typed with cheesy clip art images on each page. It was a large menu, but nothing we hadn't seen before.

    4) Server was wearing short shorts and rubber shoes. She also neglected to greet us but hurriedly asked us, "What do you want to drink?"

    5) Salad bar was old. Lettuce was limp, vegetables dried out, and croutons (which I have to say I am THE crouton queen) were terribly chewy, because they were baked the day before most likely.

    6) Our server sat at a videogame machine which was loud. Bells, dings, clicks, the whole shebang. Seriously, who does that? Why is it right inside of the dining room?

    7) One of the "cooks" came out of the kitchen. He had to be no older than 16 years old, wearing baggy black pants that were dragging on the floor and a faded over-sized shirt. He went out for a smoke break wearing his apron.

I don't even remember what I ordered. I'm haunted by the memory of my boyfriend getting sick to his stomach after ordering the prime rib.

    Don't go here.

Very disapointing.  I guess you get what you pay for.  The burgers were small and flavorless, a frozen patty from the supermarket.  Onion rings soggy, limp and greasy.  Few fries on the plate.  A friend ordered the meatloaf and a horrid gray brick appears that we sent back to the kitchen.
