My boyfriend and I love Ambassador's for week night dates. The restaurant is usually pretty quiet at night (we usually go after 8 pm) so it makes for a great date spot. The restaurant is clean, and the service is quick. My water glass is filled everytime I take more than 3 sips from it. Most importantly, the food is amazing! The last handful of times we've gone, I plan on ordering something new and different but always end up getting the Chicken Korma. It's my absolute favorite and is never as good when I try it elsewhere. Ambassadors uses the perfect blend of spices and nuts, and the chicken is always so tender. My boyfriend raves about the beef saagwala, though I cannot truley judge as I'm not a huge spinach fan. We also love the Peshewari Naan, which has coconut and pine nuts baked into it - perfectly satisifes my sweet tooth.
I can't say enough good things about Ambassadors. I always leave happy. If you're in the area, it's a definite must try! -

Tip: always go in with a pant size that is one or two sizes bigger.
I don't agree that the all that you can eat lunch buffet is at a good price point. But, they do offer some great choices for your meal.
Service is attentive. I generally don't have a flowing dialogue with the waiters, other than, "thank you" each time they refill my water goblet when it gets halfway empty.
My boyfriend likes to meet up after 1 o'clock. But, I prefer promptly at 11 or 12 o'clock. The food is warm and tender.
I prefer to come in on Fridays, knowing that they have the mango chicken. TO DIE FOR!
You'll recognize me by seeing me hogging up the kheer.. =) -

Hooray for a local Indian restaurant serving pani puris and kadhi pakora! Nice and spicy, service was friendly, decor pleasant. Servings are big enough to have leftovers to take home. And you don't have to order and pay for the standard chutneys; they're on the table.
Don't be fooled by the location - it doesn't look from the outside like it does on the inside. It's table service, warm and cozy atmosphere. -

Terrific meal - Tandoori Mixed Grill was fabulous, brought sizzling on a plate as if it were a west Asian fajita. Loved the Chicken Pakoras and Meat Samosa appetizers. Garlic naan - yummy.
We ordered chicken masala dosai - it makes quite an entrance, looking almost like a full-sized French baguette, but it actually had - well, chicken and the usual mysterious yummy stuff.
Very nice decor inside, it's too bad the outside looks more like a tax service or dry cleaner than a restaurant--let alone an Indian one. It's in one of the Cummings Park strips, so you could miss it very easily on the east side of Washington Street. I think that's why we only saw a handful of other customers.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Not sure if they have wines or not, you'd want to call ahead.
Some Indians we know consider it expensive, but five of us got pretty full for $100 including lassi (~smoothies) and we have two boxes we brought home. That's really in line with lots of other restaurants and the food is great.
All in all I totally recommend this place. Enjoy! -

Although we have our go-to Indian place in town, the BF can get his fave dish here & not our regular haunt. I was perusing the http://restaurant.com site for a place to go for dinner and found the Ambassador had an offer. So off we went.
The food is good, the deal is the standard $25 certificate with a $45 minimum & tip added before discount. The food was good and of very similar quality to what we get at home. We found the rice to be a bit on the stingy side but the little tea light heaters are a nice touch for the entree.
The samosa's were good but the paneer pakora was a little dense and the coating was more toothsome than crispy, so I do prefer my regular spot for that. A heads up, the do charge for soda refills, so keep that in mind.
I will say that everyone was super friendly. Occasionally we'll go to Bollywood and the waiters always seemed uptight & grumpy so it was nice to see that it wasn't the norm. I also found it funny that just like my hometown place, the Ambassador was empty but for us.
So even though the food quality is comparable and we had a deal, dinner still ended up costing us much more than it normally does for a very similar quality. -

I love love love Ambassador.
My friend went a year or two ago, and was disappointed in the service. I always get the buffet or take out, so I can't speak for the service. Whenever I've been there, the staff has been very friendly during the small amount of time that I see them.
I usually order via http://foodler.com and go pick it up. My food is always waiting for me when I arrive. I usually get Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan. It's always very tasty! Another favorite of mine is the Paneer Pakoras. Indian Cheese in a chickpea batter. I love dipping it in a combo of mint chutney, onion chutney and tamarind sauce!
I like the buffet, because it gives me a chance to sample things that I want to try without buying a full order. -
Review from Jeff M.
Always a solid lunch buffet for $10.95 during the week.....and I've been going here for lunch since 2007. I'm the Duke here no matter what this stupid thing says. :P It's in a strip mall among the Cummings Properties, it can get a little lost in between all of the small businesses out front so take notice to where it is located, right smack in the middle, next to the cookie shop.
There are normally four main dishes served that have ranged from saag paneer to the standards of chicken tikka masala and daal (lentil) dishes. If you're afraid of heat, then this place likely shouldn't be your first choice, or just load up on the reita to sort of drown it out. Along with the rice you usually get either plain, white jasmine rice or a mixture with veggies (I like to take both at the same time).
There is usually a soup offered as well, anything from coconut tomato soup to muligatawny. They also offer up a fresh salad bar which I rarely utilize except for the reita and kheer for dessert. The samosas are a can't miss, never too greasy or loaded up with too many veggies in the middle, fried perfectly.
I like when Indian buffets bring fresh naan to your table, so this place does get a little ding for not keeping the bread fresh and instead, having it on the buffet. I've often gotten the bread only to find it crispy like a cracker since it had been sitting out so long. Service is very prompt, clearing plates within seconds of you finishing from them and also ample amounts of refills on the much needed water from the spiciness (yes, I know it technically doesn't cool your mouth off).
Come hungry and feel like you just left Calcutta stuffed to the gills once you are done! -

Very good food. Ordered a few dishes for take out and shared with friends. I have been by this place so many times and never really noticed. The cost adds up when you order Nan rice, and sides. All in all a very good place where I would order from again, probably soon.
Staff was very friendly. -

Mediocre lunch buffet. Nothing's particularly fresh-tasting, but then that's the original purpose of all those spices--to doctor up not-so-pristine ingredients. So that works to their advantage.
If you go for the lunch buffet, you'd better like chicken, because that's the only protein available. I've been coming here for years, and there's never any lamb or goat or anything. If you're a vegetarian, then the selection is even more limited.
When I'm desperate for Indian and can't get to The Pongal in Burlington, or any of the myriad better places in Boston, I'll settle for this place. -

Awesome food. portions looked small and then I couldn't finish them! Have gone twice and both the service and food was great. Best nan and garlic nan I've had!
Only drawback is the atmosphere is kinda lame and it's slightly expensive.
Definitely worth a visit! -

Woburn, MA
I have been looking for an acceptable Indian restaurant in North suburban Boston, and I think this is it. We only have ordered takeout so I cannot comment on the service however.
The food is a step above other Indian restaurants in price, but since we have limited delivery options in the area, we are willing to pay. Prices are $13-$18 for most entrees.
The rice and bread are buttery and nice. The chilcken tikka and tandooris are well-cooked without being dry. The lam saag is standard-issue, which is to say delicious, I don't think it's a dish you can really screw up. The Beef Dilrubi (with mushrooms) is unremarkable.
What is outstanding is the daal soup. It has a LOT of black pepper, perfect if you have a chest cold. Also outstanding: the Beef Korma, just the right nutty flavor and spices.
Overall, maybe not an everyday Indian restaurant because of the price but good for when you really have to have Indian. -

We order catered meals from Ambassador a few times a month. Staff is friendly, accommodating and courteous. The owner has worked around our budget and is one of the nicest restaurant owners I have met. We are happy with the service and quality of food!

An Indian, Korean and a Pole walk into a restaurant... - and have a delectable meal with a dash of fabulous. Yes, we went at the awkward time of... what, 4pm? But the staff were friendly and the food was delicious. What was on the table:
Papri Chaat: could think of this as Indian nachos, but cold and refreshing. It's difficult to find in other restaurants, and quite well done here.
Pani Puri: Hollow pastries, in which you put in filling in a spicy green liquid before devouring. Also difficult to find at most Indian restaurants.
Chicken Tikka Masala: Very well done. Excellent degree of creaminess. Funny enough, this popular dish is more of a British fusion import dish, which led to the lunch conversation of "at which point does such a dish belong to the country?"
Shahi Baingan Bhartha: Eggplant dish, which went well with the naan
Channa Masala: My favorite entree of the three
Chai: Really good stuff. One of the diners identified it as Gujarati in style. None of the odd sweet spices that get put in the coffee chains' version of chai.
Was so full, I couldn't think of ordering dessert, but I'll definitely be back for the kulfi! (pistachio ice?) -

Consistently delicious Indian food and the staff are soo nice. Go for the buffet from 12-2 p.m. on weekdays. Great tomato coconut soup and chicken tikka masala. I also love the rice pudding for dessert - the only dish that is just "meh" is the butter brown sugar dessert (can't remember what it's called, but it's way too rich for my taste).

I stopped here for lunch on the way back to the office. I had the $9.95 Lunch Buffet (11:30 AM-2:30 PM), and I agree with Matthew that the price is a bit high compared to other Indian buffets and has limited choices (around 12 food items).
The Lunch Buffet offers good quality food which was brought out fresh in small batches. The Buffet had items such as Salad (lettuce tomato, cucumbers), Daal Soup (spicy lentil & split peas), Naan (excellent!), Vegetable Pakoras, Basmati Rice, Dal Makhani, Aloo Mutter, Tikka Marsala, Tandoori Chicken, Chick Pea Salad, Chutney, Yogurt, and Badami Kheer (refreshing & sweet rice pudding with nuts & raisins). All of the food was very good & delicious and the service was good with constant refills on house water and clearing of dishes.Listed in: Yet Another Strip Mall Gem!…, I-93 Eats

Whenever I go to Ambassador for the lunch buffet, I feel like I'm robbing them blind. Whenever I go to Ambassador for dinner, I feel like THEY are robbing ME blind!
There is no doubt in my mind that they use the dinner prices to offset the small fortune they lose every day at the lunch buffet. Prices for dinners are at the higher end of what you'd expect to be paying, while not being too ridiculous. Prices for starters, soups, and desserts, however, are exorbitant!
You can't lose with the lunch buffet, though, and that is why it is always packed (that, and being in the middle of a huge office park). There are always six or seven items in buffet trays available, in addition to pakoras, soups, desserts, and naan. They even provide you with endless raita! If you go in and just get one serving of soup, one serving of dessert, and some rice covered in raita, you're already making money, as this would cost you around $12 on the dinner menu, and the buffet is under $11... And you still have all that delicious food to attack!
Bottom line: If you're concerned with them staying in business, go there for dinner and make them rich. If you want to eat on the cheap and burst the button on your slacks (which you're obviously wearing cuz you're a tool with a lame office job and dress code), hit up lunch. -

We ate here last night and we were not disappointed. We ordered the lamb curry, chicken tika masala, garlic naan, vegetable biryani (sp?), veggie platter and non-veggie platter.
We had more than enough food to share between the 5 of us. I ordered the Mango Lassi and it was just right. Not too sweet. -

This was the first Indian I've had outside of Burlington, VT in many years and it was sooooo good! I forgot most restaurants like this do a buffet lunch, so I got everything I could want and more for a totally reasonable price. It actually made me weep a little inside for how limited and sad our selection of Indian cuisine is at home. The restaurant doesn't look like much and it's in a sad little strip mall, but don't pass it up! Chicken Curry, Dal Makhani, Chana Masala, Tandoori Drumsticks, Mulligatawny, Veggie Pakoras were all amazing. Wish I lived close enough for dinner! Staff was super friendly and attentive, also.

Awesome. This place really was tasty. Really tasty indian food. Very happy to stumble upon this place. I was at the car dealer around the corner with my brother and we were starving so we popped in here - and the portions were big and the prices were small so what more could you ask for? We had the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka banh, aloo naan and the veggie samsosa. Yum.

Fell in love w/this place since on my first visit! It's one of two Woburn restaurants I must visit each time I'm in town.
My first visit to Ambassador was on an usually late Tuesday afternoon between peak lunch and dinner times. The entire place was empty aside from two hosts and one hostess sitting in the back of the restaurant chatting among themselves. One of the hosts promptly met me at the front as I entered and showed me to a table. As I sat down I noticed the temperature of the place a bit warm, which is pretty common for Indian restaurants. I didn't mention the warm room to any of the hosts, yet in 10 min it felt noticeably cooler; they had turned down the AC just for me without even having been asked to do so. That really impressed me and pretty much set the tone for the remainder of the meal to come.
How would I describe the actually eating experience? Epic. I ordered some lamb saagwala, masala dosai, very tasty mango chutney, and some garlic naan. The feast satisfied me in ways I still can't fathom. And the staff treated me like a king.
My subsequent visits to the Ambassador have usually occurred during the lunch buffet. The place gets pretty busy around lunch, and it isn't unusual to see a line of 5-10 people at the buffet during peak times. This results in the food on the buffet always being very fresh--from the veggie pakoras and lentil soup to the tandoori chicken and always-hot naan. For a more complete list of their typical buffet offerings, I'd refer you to Ian W's review.
Ambassador of Awesomeness. I miss this place! -

I went here for the weekday lunch buffet which now costs $10.95 (not $9.95 anymore as stated in the older reviews). I enjoyed the food especially the tandoori chicken and the chicken tikka masala. They keep the food as hot and fresh as possible by bringing it out in small quantities.
I was stuck between giving it 3 and 4 stars as the food was fine but the price is a little high. Plus I'm not sure if the food was good enough for me to want to come back for dinner. But for now I'll give it a 4. -

Went here for dinner a couple nights ago with the hubby and another couple, all of us South Asian. The food was ok but not terrific. To start we had an appetizer platter with samosa, tikki, and pakora. We did family-style entrees, including baingan bhartha (too much garlic), malai kofta, bhindi masala (a bit burnt), and dal makhni (not enough salt). We ordered the mixed stuffed naan to go with the entrees - this included garlic naan, onion naan, and chili/cheese naan. For dessert we had kulfi with almonds/pista and rasmalai.
I would give this place another star except for the service, which suffered from a few issues. There were only a few other groups in here but the waitstaff was still quite slow to take our order and clear away dishes. I ordered a mango lassi that was never delivered to the table, yet it showed up on the bill. Speaking of the bill, it was dropped at our table after we finished our entrees without anyone even asking if we wanted dessert. We had to tell them that we'd like to look at the dessert menu, which they finally brought over to us after taking away our bill. Finally, when we went to pay, they told us the credit card machine wasn't working so we had to pay by cash or check. Fortunately someone had a checkbook because we didn't have enough cash for the bill!
Not sure if I'd go back; there are plenty of other Indian places with better food and much better service. -

Yum! Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala were both scrumptious. Butter Naan was yummy, too. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the price. Two entrees, one order of butter naan, no drinks = $35. If the entrees were around $10/pp it would have been perfect.
Major plus was the manager! Greeted us immediately and was very accommodating when I had a question about one of the ingredients in my entree. He actually took the time bring the item in question out for me to take a look at. Much appreciated. -

Ok, so this is someone who, for among other reasons, went to India because I love Indian food! So Ambassador compares with Boston's best and I'm not an amateur when it comes to Indian food... There is absolutely no reason to drive downtown and if you ask me, the food at Ambassador is reason for all you downtown restaurant patrons to drive to Woburn! Lamb Korma, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Shredded Onion Pakoras, Garlic Naan, I could go on and on with the wonderful dishes they present here! Lunch buffet daily is never disappointing! Always a great selection of fresh and flavorful dishes, hot out of the tandoor naan and attentive servers!

Best Indian buffet I've been to. These guys know what they are doing. Helpful, fast, friendly service, good variety of food (only been for the excellent buffet), and they rotate dishes just enough, while keeping a few anchor items there every day.
The couple of times they have been out of something, or something has not been 'just right', they have (without any prodding) more than made up for it with a surprise dish brought to our table or some similar small but very meaningful gesture. -

Stoneham, MA
Arguably the very best lunch buffet in the greater Boston area. The chicken dishes are all fresh, moist and tender - not dried out, like so many buffets. The range of vegetarian offerings is outstanding. Tomato-coconut soup was perfectly spiced. Small vegetable samosas a pleasant switch from typical fatty softballs so common elsewhere. Chicken tikka offered off the bone a pleasant, tasty surprise. All prepared with mild spicing, but a bowl of peppery "liquid fire" on the buffet bar - well marked - lets those who wish it make foods hotter. As an lIndian food addict who travels a lot alone, I get the chance to sample buffets worldwide, and this is one of the very best!

We had never tried Indian food so we decided to try the lunch buffet to be able to try more of the food. We went on a Saturday at about 2pm and the buffet food was still hot and fresh. I have no idea what food is what, but I do know they had salad, chickpeas in sauce, chicken with veg, tikki masala, tandoor chicken, rice, the naan bread, and some sort of potato dish with spinach sauce. Everything we tried was very good with just the right amount of spice - I don't handle spicy well and nothing was too hot for me to eat. I would recommend trying one of everything - even if you're unsure. The potato dish was one of my favorites but I almost didn't try it because it was labeled as being just cheese in spinach sauce. Our glasses were always full of water and the price was right. We will definitely return!

I've dined in and gotten takeout from this upscale Indian eatery. The food and service are both very good. I would rate them 5 stars if the prices were a bit more affordable. Excellent location with plenty of parking, right off I-93 and I-95. Lunch buffet worth a try as well.

Honestly, Id give this place 3.5 stars. The food was good, prices ok, but the actual restaurant is odd. It was super quiet, and so well lit, it felt like hospital lighting. I would go back again for the good (and great service) but Im hoping the management read this and tone down the lighting and maybe add music in the background.

A stopped In here for a buffet lunch which was quite good. I did have a few observations and comments, if I may:
1. The lunch buffet was $9.95 which I thought was a bit high compared to other Indian buffets, and there was limited choices on the buffet, which was surprising with the higher cost.
2. Very good Indian food. The fresh hot nann bread was cooked perfectly.
3. The owner/ man came by my table to ask my how everything was was, which was a nice gesture.
4. Dine in guests may BYOB into the restaurant. A $4 corking fee is charged to the bill if you BYOB :-( however I am not sure this fee is legal.
UPDATE: 1-5-08
We finaly made back here to try the dinner menu! It was a Saturday night and the place was empty! We were treated like kings! We brought our wine and no corking fee was charged.
I had the mixed grill and I do not car for lamb so they added more tandoori chicken. Everything was just delicious. My friends had the fish curry and also the beef saag which was tender and succulent.
We also ordered the garlic naan which was so garlicky and fresh, it almost resembled Italian with the garlic and oil.
They really took good care of us here and we will definably be back again. The best authentic Indian food around.Listed in: Bring Your Own Wine (or…, Woburn Lunch

I brought my daughter for the lunch buffet only having forgot that there was not a kid's price. And the lunch buffet itself was very expensive at $10.95/person. The rating gets 3 stars for good food (except the dessert of the day) and a very nice owner. A quick glance at the menu showed entrees priced higher than most other local Indian restaurants. They'd get more business if they lowered their buffet price and also created some lunch specials.

Hard to find the restaurant, because it is nestled with a bunch of office space. Plenty of parking.
The banquet room is small and the front half is for parties and the back half is for regular paying customers. Everyone eats from the same buffet selection. Food is hot and comes out in small batches.
2 stars go for the server called 'the boss', he is full of beans and comes around with hot chilli pakodas, 'boss' parathas and checks on everything. His presence makes the place cheerful.
The atmosphere is nice and the buffet had delicious fare of Punjabi dishes. The kebabs were awesome, with lots of choices. -

I was really surprised at the options available and the yumminess of the dishes. The shahi and saag paneer were very good. The pakora khadi and chaats were also good. The naan and parathas were so fresh. The food was really good. The owner also came by a couple of times to ask us how everything was. There were only 2 negatives. There was this weird woman that seemed like she resented being there and would bark at us. She actually stood over me as I signed the credit card slip. This is very awkward especially when you're calculating the tip. They also didn't have the option of ordering the dinner for two meals, which does save quite a bit of money.

Now this is what Indian cuisine should taste like. Everything is very, very tasty; the help is there for you every step of the way; it has a bread basket option on the menu; the atmosphere is very nice though conservative; and it just makes my wife and I giddy when we walk toward the entrance. To put our opinion in context: I once taught an entire class full of people of Indian heritage how to swim, and the Ambassador was pretty much recommended by every one. It really is fantastic.

Very good Indian cuisine in a nice atmosphere with delicious dishes. Lots of choices for the lunch buffet including chat, and other dishes you don't see at other Indian buffets, but the food itself is middle of the road, decent Indian cuisine. I highly recommend the baingan bartha though, that's amazing.

I am a huge fan of Ambassador! I am sort of new to Indian food, but I have tried quite a few menu items at this restaurant and I have never been disappointed. Another great thing? You can bring your own beer and wine! The Peshawari Naan is my favorite Naan out of any that I have had, and their Chicken Tikka Masala is excellent and if you get Naan and an app, it's enough for 2 people. The Beef Saagwala is good, but sort of a smaller portion. All of the appetizers I have tried have been great. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars, is because if you order 2 meals for 2 people, they bring out one thing of rice. It's either $4 or $5 if you need more...Great food, and I will be back there soon!
