Booked a room here on a quick ski weekend in South lake and it was an easy place to stay when you just need a basic (and clean) crashpad.
Pros: clean, relatively spacious rooms, location is close to the main drag and to Heavenly, very reasonable rates, was able to book room just a few days prior.
Cons: 45+ mins to Kirkwood

Basic no frills motel. Clean and very reasonably priced. Also very close to the casinos and restaurants. Decor and mattresses are pretty old.
New Year's Eve 2007, my friends and I are inching up Manzanita Ave, which is FULL of motels, hotels, lodges, inns, etc.
Our hearts beat fervently in our chests, our breath catches in our throats as we strain to see the names on the buildings. "Please not that one, please not that one." we chant when we see a green monstrosity. Quick sighs of relief. Finally, we see our (not hideous) accomadations. Score.
The motel itself is plain, but cute. The bedrooms are clean, if a bit poorly decorated in a retro kind of way. The price was $200, which I consider reasonable considering it was South Lake Tahoe on NYE.
The best parts of staying here:
1) We were surrounded by other NYE party goers our age. Our room became the biggest get together in the motel, with neighbors from all sides coming in.
2) It is maybe a block and a half from the Strip (which, if you don't know, is where you want to be at midnight). Do you have any idea how nice it is to be that close when you can barely walk? I had no trouble stumbling my way over ice and snow to get to the Strip, and no problem stumbling my way back to the room.
Good times at the Ambassador, highly recommended.
