The food is the best. Service is absolutely fantastic. The diver scallops are my favorite and the rib eye is terrific. If you are really brave try a Jalepeno Margarita from the bar!!!!!    Cheesecake is some of the best I have ever had.

Quiet outdoor seating with plenty of space between tables.
    Superb service.
Wonderful bread and butter served before the meal.
Was the food excellent? No, but it was good and the lack of hustle and bustle was relaxing after the rigors of the plaza and other places that are crowded and noisy. An oasis in an unexpected place.

We went for lunch, so I can't speak to how dinner is. It may be spectacular. Lunch wasn't. My mother-in-law was eager for a Native American experience, and this was the best we could find.

Service was spotty -- a glum, unsmiling host balanced by a kind and friendly waitress and some attentive drink refilling. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. Husband had the fry bread, which was fine, but lacking...something. I had a salmon salad which was quite nice but nothing to write home about.

My mother-in-law picked the bison burger, which may have been the best of our picks. Pretty delicious, especially with all the green chiles.

Glad we didn't splurge for dinner here, as I suspect it would have been equally average. Don't think we'd plan on going here again.

This is a review on the bar only, and not the restaurant. Every once in a while, I like to kick back with a chilly drink with visiting friends before they have to go back to their city, state, or country of origin. I usually end up taking them to the bar at Amaya because it's really kick back, has couches, and the drinks are reasonably priced. You can have a low key conversation and hear yourself think instead of the more "busy" (ie... loud) bars and clubs in the downtown Santa Fe area. And if you LIVE downtown, it's more than convenient to walk back to whichever hotel your guests are staying at.

I like it, but still only hit this place up a few times a year because it's all about the context wou want to portray to your visiting guests.

This is one of my top 3 places for lunch in Santa Fe. I take clients knowing they'll find something memorable on the menu. I often get the Picuris (named after the pueblo) chicken salad and also LOVE the tortilla soup. This place is subtle and sweet - and very southwest. It's not an east coast or west coast style - it's truly southwest. In the summer, the outdoor patio with the native flower gardens and tipi make it an even better attraction for my out of town guests.

We stopped in for dinner on a weeknight, and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had in quite a while.  First, the positive comments:
    1. The outdoor seating area is quite nice.
    2. The wait staff are very friendly and try to be helpful.
    3. The prix fixe menu is quite inexpensive.
That's where the pep talk ends.  Perhaps it was a bad night, but Amaya seems to be suffering from bad management.  First, it was chaos at the reception desk; in addition to the host there seemed to be three or four other people doing seating, and none of them seemed to be communicating with the others.  Second, the wait staff did not really seem to be up to the task of working at a fine restaurant; for example, when I asked a question about one of the wines on the list, the waiter's answer was to bring us the bottle to look at.  I don't blame the staff, because clearly they have not been properly prepared to work in a supposedly nice restaurant.

Then there was the very odd cork incident.  The bottle of wine that we ordered had a problem with the cork, which disintegrated upon removal, but the waiter was able to salvage the bottle.  A few minute later, he brought us a cork from a different bottle and set it on our table!  It was worth a good chuckle, but not exactly indicative of fine restaurant practices.

And then there was the food.  My salad was badly overdressed (to the degree that the dressing almost choked me), and the grape tomatoes on the salad were sad and wrinkly.  For main I ordered the poblano chili stuffed with tofu and roasted vegetables.  This dish had absolutely no flavor!  The only reason I am giving two rather than one star is because the desserts were decent, the staff tried hard, and my wife also enjoyed her soup.  But I would definitely not recommend the place to anyone.
