Amavi was a random choice for us during our short stay in Santa Fe, but we were not disappointed.  The food was, for the most part, really well done. Nothing fancy about it, but just simply well done.

The home-made ravioli was delicious (coming from a family where we make our own). The only issue we had was that the fish dish we ordered was really over seasoned.  A little pepper goes a long way...a lot of pepper kills any other flavor.

The ambiance is simple; definitely a Santa Fe style decor.  It's a great date place, or a nice place for a night with a small group of friends.

This place is bad on all fronts. Expensive, small portions, heavy hand on the salt shaker in the kitchen. Went here on a double date with our friends on their anniversary. We heard raves about the place and we all wanted to try it. The cuisine is like a spanish/central italian hybrid and the menu looked great.

The Caesar salad started the goofs. Tasted pretty good but $9 for four pieces of lettuce and a few anchovies drew jokes from every one. One chick got the Tapas appetizer and was equally disappointed by the two scallions for $12.

The worst part were the entrees. Whether it was roasted chicken, trout or chard, everything was potato chip salty and barely edible. Too salty.

Nice cocktails and ambiance but the food was bad and the prices were high think a la carte with $30 entrees.

I don't mind a high priced dinner every now and then or small portions if  the food rocked. But the food here looked good but tasted sad.

For these prices I much rather hit up the Bullring. Similar pricing but great food.

Upon a recent visit to Santa Fe we had a birthday dinner at Amavi.
It was a Tuesday night in July, not what one would think is prime time in season.  However, based on the inordinate amount of time between courses you have thought it was a crazy night in season.  The food was OK, nothing extraordinary.  Mr. Waiter seemed bothered by a couple of ordinary requests and his face told the story.  We were a large party of 6 and he got his tip included in the total, luckily for him.  So, long story short don't bother stopping here, there are other fine dining options in Santa Fe to try.

My wife and I went to Amavi on the recommendation of our hotel. Everything was excellent. We had the Tapas for an appetizer, split a Caesar salad, she had the steak with potato gratin (awesome) and I had the chicken. All were great. Yes, the place is a bit pricey at $107 with tip and no alcohol and the anchovies on the salad were very salty. we offset this with the homemade cranberry sorbet they served before the main course and still give it five stars. We would go back again.

Meh.  After hearing from our highly decorated chef at the Santa Fe Cooking School that Amavi was THE place to eat in Santa Fe, we were more than happy to let him make reservations for us.  We were going to be "taken care of!"  By some super genius chef who really knew what he was doing and came highly recommended by this other hot shot chef!!!
When I arrived, it was so quiet inside, I didn't think there were even any guests.  The ladies that welcomed me were warm and friendly, and my sparkly orange cosmo drink was delish.  And that's where the great ended.
I saw the chef, the one that was contacted by the first chef about our arrival.  I introduced myself and thanked him for having us.  And either Chef A is all talk, or Chef B is just lame.  Maybe both.  In any case, that was the extent of any special dining experience or attention.  Me approaching him to say hi, and him tolerating me doing so.
Our waiter clearly hated us, and had no patience for our shenanigans.  Luckily the first round of guests cleared out because this place was a damn mausoleum and we felt uncomfortable speaking above a whisper.  I have never been anywhere so quiet that wasn't a library or a moment of silence.
The food was totally mediocre and I was completely underwhelmed.  What a disappointment, and what a waste of our final meal in Santa Fe.

this was a stop on the santa fe school of cooking fine dining walking tour, so i only sampled one dish and its wine pairing.  but based on that and the ambiance, i would give it this rating because of course i'd need to try more dishes to give a fairer portrait of the place.

i had the seared grouper (from spain) on top of crostini.  there was also some relation to watercress on the crostini, pinons (pine nuts), and a drizzle of olive oil.  it was delicious- the fish was cooked perfectly, a sear on one side and a nice rareness to the underside.  it was light and lovely.

the atmosphere and hostess/host-co-owners-husband/wife were also charming.  this would be a fun place to listen to live music and kick back with a good plate of food, if i get a chance to come back to santa fe.

Our concierge at the Inn of the Anasazi recommended Amavi. All of our appetizers and entrees were great, the service was fine and the wine list was serviceable.

I agree that Amavi is on par with a larger city restaurant with a local twist. The local twist is mild; the chef does not overpower the food with the red and green pepper craze that you find at many Santa Fe restuarants.

The ambiance is cozy - grab a seat near a fireplace.  We will definitately return on our next trip to Santa Fe.

We celebrated our anniversary, and were well treated by our handsome server, and the chef Megan Tucker,  came out to wish us well. The food was awesome! We're from San Francisco, and are used to fine dining and this was as good as any SF restaurant, and maybe a little better than most. The halibut was perfectly prepared, as was the bavette steak, and the dessert - a french meringue and chocolate cake - was heavenly. We also had the best capuccino with dessert.

Excellent restaurant in a beautiful historic space. My wife and I agreed that the food was among the best we have eaten.
