Ama's has moved into a new building thats really beautiful.
We ordered off the al a carte, a hard shell taco, a carne guisada taco, a migas taco, two gorditas and one dozen beef tamales.
Everything was good. The prices seemed very fair. If you're a gordita fan, having the uber thick corn tortilla toasted on a flat griddle, maybe you should skip the gorditas then. Although, I will return for all the other wonderful food, not so much for the gorditas, they seemed to be deep fried.
Big giant plus, they serve breakfast all day long!
Next time we'll try a sit down meal and try out the sides and drinks.
Hearne, like any other small town in Texas has one thing. A main road with stores and business off of that one road. Well, on that road, TX Highway 79, there is a restaurant called Ama's.
Ama's is obviously locally owned, and family owned. It has authentic Mexican food... well Texmexican food. They just opened a new location and it was very nice. They have friendly staff and good food. What I liked best was the chips and the salsa. It would remind me of my Grandmother's...if she made salsa. In all realness, my Grandfather is the one in the family that makes his own salsa. And it is HOT! I always come home with salsa of his. You can't beat homeade salsa no sirreee.
This is a place to visit when you're on the road. Not just for the sake of it. Why? Because it is in BFE! Just like everything else in Texas. So it's a good restaurant, probably better than whatever else they have in this town. I bet if people in Hearne knew of Yelp, they'd write about this place. Cuz it's goood. But maybe not cuz there ain't shit here.
