Sunnyvale, CA
When you see a restaurant super busy even on a weekday, that surely is a good sign. I came here yesterday for a birthday dinner party and the moment I entered I was sure, I would enjoy my dinner.
There is a low seating available which is really good for groups where you can sit over the pillows and enjoy your food.
We ordered: Chicken Satay, Thai Samosas, Veg Spring Rolls for starters and House special fried rice, chicken pad thai noodles, Mango Chicken Special and chicken green curry.
We enjoyed everything but CHICKEN SATAY was the best. It was so juciy and full of flavour that we ordered 4 portions.
Cocktails were good too but they have a limited selection of wines.
The experience of low seating was great and was a first for me in US.
I didn't like my server and hence deducting that 1 point. we asked her to change our table to the one on the corner so that our group will be more comfortable there but she didn't change it although it wasn't reserved and no body came afterwards because they were closing their kitchen in few minutes.
Other than that we liked everything. -

Three stars....how come?
Busy, good flavor, not awesome, but good...seating outside is better than inside, but low seating is nice, unless you are wearing a skirt :)
The place is always busy, good value for the money, nice location, decent service (sometimes too busy), but generally speaking - it is an everyday place.
Chicken dishes are very good, and portions are decent. -
Review from Mansi A.
The worst part about dining in a restaurant that is popular, as evidenced by every table being occupied on a weekday evening when nearby eateries were practically deserted, is walking away thinking there was a 90% chance I ordered the wrong thing, resulting in my somewhat lackluster attitude.
I had actually heard a lot about Amarin, which is why I was stoked to eat here recently. Even more stoked when we walked in and nearly every table was full and the scene was vibrant. Mountain View poppin' on a Wednesday night? Oh yea.
So we ordered the chicken fried rice and the chicken pad thai; it was clearly a carb kinda night. The chicken fried rice wasn't half bad. Not spicy, but good flavor, and enough chunks of chicken. The pad thai? A very Americanized version of pad thai, IMHO. I've had significantly better varieties. They also need to kick up the spiciness factor and tone down the sweetness.
By the way, Amarin had an awesome section in one part of the restaurant that had low table seating where you can kick off your shoes, stash your tush on some pillows, and kick back with friends. I'm definitely reserving that for a future dinner!
I'm going to go with a 3-star rating, since the place seems to be serving solid food that people obviously come for. I'll be sure to pay attention to Yelpers and order some of the recommended dishes next time around. I do have to add that there was some beautiful artwork on the walls. This place could have potential in being a 4-star place if it's all that people say it is...I just need to eat more of their entrees to validate that. Oh, and the mirrored wall in the main dining room? Lose it. I get that you're trying to create depth within the restaurant, but solid walls with the artwork would've done the ambiance better justice. -

I like to order their Pad See Ew. It's pretty good. They have sweet ice thai tea. I enjoy grabbing a nice lunch here.

I love their Pad Thai and peanut sauce is to die for. I was disapointed with the service a tad. We had a large table of 14 and they did their job as they should have, not overly friendly but did what needed to be done which was fine. When she was cleaining up the plates, she dropped a fork and it rubbed against my very expensive jacket which now smells of fish. She didn't say anything nor did I look thinking anything was wrong. After she walked away I went to put my coat on and noticed that it was wet and could tell it had been spilled on. I can not stand the smell of fish and I am very upset that she didn't say anything so I could try to clean it up quicker. My only hope now is to dry clean it and hope it comes out. I thought that it was rude enough to give 3 stars.

I am not much of a coconut fan myself but i have to accept that the coconut chicken soup at this place is the best soup i ever had. The rest of the meal was good. Just didn't want the taste of the soup to go away! The ambience and presentation was good. But the weekend menu is a tad expensive.

Bland, tasteless, overpriced. Very disappointed by this place, and would have probably been better off trying any of the other nearby Thai restaurants. Service was not bad, overall friendly staff etc. but for the food, bleh.
Ordered the Thai Muslim Curry for $10. The dish as so tiny and only contained 3 cubes of beef! Not worth it for the price. The dish was full of potatoes too. Next off, it was bland, tasted like a typical beef stew more than it did like a curry. The dish also had claimed to contain pineapples, of which I only found one inside. Perhaps it was pineapple juice used in the curry because it was very sweet for a curry, lacking in spices and flavor. Ordered this dish with some sticky rice, that wasn't that great either, not very sticky and moreso crusty/on the old side as if it had been sitting for a while. Came with a large party and no one else had seemed impressed by their orders. I don't intend to come here again. -

Hey, have not been here in years and it is just how I remembered it, not much has changed. They were super busy as usual and we had to snuggle around a little table.
Food was pretty good and relatively prompt. Service was mixed. Our waitress was very sweet but the two girls who were up front seemed stressed and unfriendly. Amarin, will see you again in a couple of years time. -

This place still always has lots of people. The food was pretty good. We had the combination spring rolls to start. The spring rolls had duck, chicken, and beef in it. A great appetizer to start off with. We also had the duck curry, and woked spicy beef bamboo with rice. The meal was accompanied with thai iced coffees. A great start for a evening.

Coconut soup - this was yummy
Crab fried rice - Lots of crab
duck with red curry - the lychee in the sauce made it quite unique
(they don't have duck noodle soup for dinner; in fact, they don't have any noodle soup on dinner menu period. This was a little disappointed.)2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Amarin Thai easily outranks the other Thai restaurants in the area but you have to know what to order. Beef, tofu, and any dish that highlights a vegetable is excellent. The brown rice is a must. Good for those vegetarians and anyone else who wants to see exactly whats in their dish. Do order family style with a large group- dishes will come out intermittently- and do try new things here. Curries are usually very good but sometimes a miss and the pad thai is off- just the wrong flavor combination. The food can be very spicy but not in a way that overpowers the flavors. Very reasonable portions.

This place featured the classic Asian restaurant service, which is to say that it was non-existent. Our server completely ignored us until we got the hostess to flag someone down. We were never greeted by a server and when she did come, she never asked for our drink order.
I ordered the coconut milk soup with ginger and salmon and a Thai iced tea (all at once). I was practically finished with my meal when my friend across the table reminded me that we had both ordered Thai teas and never got them. Again, flagging down a server was obnoxiously difficult.
We had a group of eight people and every dish came out separately, leading to several awkward moments of "shall we start eating?" as no one else had their food.
While it was fun to kick off my shoes and sit with my feet dangling below the table, I will not be coming back to be further ignored by the wait staff. The coconut milk soup was supposed to be a little spicy and it wasn't, but the price of $11 for all that was spot-on. -
Review from Vivian A.
Party of 7 with 11:30a lunch reservations and the lady kept insisting she put us at one of those tables where you have to remove your shoes, but none of us were down (it was freezing). She kept insisting she was expecting about '40 reservations'. Um, we ARE one of those reservations lady! She finally sat us at a table (Hello? We were the second people there!). Dumb.
Never ate here before but four of us didn't even look at the menu and ordered the BBQ Beef with Honey Sauce and Sticky Rice plate (comes with Thai Carrot Salad). That was endorsement enough for me so I complied. The BBQ beef was good, well seasoned with a great flavor. The sticky rice came in foil ball and was so dry, even for 'regular rice' standards, not even 'sticky rice'. The side carrot salad was cold, refreshing and not too vinegary.
Waiters were prompt to refill our waters but immediately started clearing our plates once the last morsel of food was put in the persons mouth. I found that a bit rude, being the last person eating was left with his only plate at the table. Then came the stares once they dropped the bill like they were counting the seconds as to when they could pick it up. I know you guys have a lunch crowd but it definitely stepped over the lines of 'rudeness'.
Three stars for the beef and carrot salad. Dock another star for the extra dry "sticky rice" and a completely lacking customer service from both the hostess and the wait staff. -

Came here for dinner with some friends after work and was seated promptly outside. We got the Angel Wings for an appetizer and I got the prawn pad Thai which is probably the safest thing you can get at a Thai place. The Angel Wings were pretty good as it was basically two large chicken wings stuffed with what I believe were noodles and more chicken (yo dawg I heard you like chicken...) The pad Thai was super sweet which I didn't like but they did give lots of prawns which was nice.
I would say service was average as it took a while to order and get our food but they were pretty busy considering it was a Friday night. Our waters were filled promptly, though which is a plus.
I feel all Thai food in the Bay Area is pretty similar and this place is no different. Doesn't mean it's bad, it's just pretty much the same as any other Thai place you go to. Nothing special+decent food = 3 stars. -

"This is some good @#$@ brown rice." That quote was literally plucked from my dialogue during my dinner here. Although it was pretty darn good brown rice, ideally the brown rice shouldn't be the highlight of your meal. It's basically like going to a burger joint and saying that the fries are dericious.
Anyway, the food here isn't too shabby. But I have had better thai food and this place is more or less in the middle of the pack. It could be the tiredness talking, but there was nothing special about the beef curry or the angel wings that we ordered. I did ask for extra spicy. As my inner Asian would say "me lika de spicy!" What a minute I am Asian. Well I guess if I had to describe it, it's American PC, open the door for grandma spicy. Which doesn't work for me since 28 years of habaneros, red chilis, sriracha, 911 challenges, and Asian food have pretty much killed my taste buds. I want non-PC, your mom goes to college, suck it up spicy! Unfortunately, for that you'll have to go elsewhere.
So in a nutshell: it's about a deuce; deuce and a half -

Amarin Thai is the usual place I go to when doing Thai food on Castro in downtown Mountain View. Depending on the dish, it averages I would say about 3-4 stars... but like others say, don't expect downtown Mountain View to have amazing Asian food (but Mountain View is waaay better than Palo Alto which sucks--- at least for Thai food) and I admit, the service at Amarin Thai can be hit or miss at times... but on average decent food and decent service

The prawn pineapple curry presentation sure looked fantastic, but the sauce was too watery. My curry had the consistency of soup and I'm sure I didn't order soup.
I think the restaurant is always busy because of the popularity of Thai cusine and the location on Castro in MV, but the food is sub-par. I've had better Thai food... like at places around the corner. -

Amazing, amazing food. I was so excited to find that they had a separate vegetarian menu, with two full pages of unbelievable-sounding entrees.
I decided I wanted the Panang Curry, a red curry based on coconut milk with tofu, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, bell peppers, and peas. It was so amazing: rich, and just spicy enough, with perfectly still-slightly-crisp vegetables that absorbed the sauce entirely. I've been having a curry craving the past few days, but now that I know curry like that is just around the corner, I can't imagine not having a perpetual curry craving. And it was so pretty!
The service could have been better... Our waiter never asked what level of spice I wanted in my dish, the food was a little slow to come out, our water wasn't refilled frequently-- and when it was, it was sometimes warm. But the value was good; most vegetarian entrees ran between $9 and $13.
Anticipate at least twenty updates on this review... I want to try everything on the menu.Listed in: Who are the people in my…

I don't know, this place...
Bad service- all the way from bad water service to bad attitude from the waiters/waitresses.
Water even tasted nasty, too.
The noodle dishes are SUPER americanized and VERY sweet. I like the Saratoga one better. Eesh. -

Service is great here. Came here on a Sunday night last minute since Dish Dash was closed and we were seated promptly. Our authentic Thai waitress was great. The fried appetizer - fried mushrooms, peppers and other veggies - is so good. They only have it at this location. The green curry was ok but tasty (and it came out in a skillet!). The tiger beef has to be eaten with the sauce. The pad thai was nothing special but consistent. Good portions and would come back.

Mountain View, CA
We stopped in for a quick bite to eat before starting the party on Castro. The wait was relatively short for a late Friday night, and the outdoor cafe seating was great for the early fall evening.
My basil eggplant with pork was delicious - standard fare with spiciness to order. The ladies ordered a papaya salad and a mango salad with prawns. They said the salads weren't done exactly right (e.g., no garlic in the papaya salad?), although I can't comment on the flavor since I never order Thai salads regularly enough to know how they should taste. The fried banana with ice cream was good, although the batter was a bit thick.
The service was just ho-hum - the hostess forgot to bring menus, and the waiter was a bit slow. The bartender, however, was top notch at making *generous* drinks to start the pre-partying off right. -

While we ate here, my friends and I thought of what would be a good title for this review. I can't actually remember them precisely, they went something like this.
"A Wonderful Nightmare"
or
"The Longest THAI-me"
I'm not sure if this is really a 1 star place. Maybe 1.5 stars?
We showed up, got seated on those fancy pants bench seats. Really Authentic Thai seating. Actually, I don't know if they are authentic, but they are kinda fun. Except when you can't get to your seat because there are boxes and crates blocking half the entrance. Hrm...
Ok, no big deal. We're chilling, waiting for service. And chilling. And chilling. And chilling. I started timing after 10-15 minutes, and it took 20 minutes from there to get a waitress to even get us more water. So 30 min, nobody talked to us. And we sat near the front :/
Ok, we finally were able to order (did drinks, appetizers, and main course). And perhaps to my detriment, I started the timer again. I was grumpy and hungry. It took 10+ minutes to get TWO COCA COLAS OUT. What the fhwdgads?
10 more minutes before the wrong appetizers showed up. Cool. Eventually, the right one showed up, all cold and not appetizing. MMMMM.
Then the food came out, after who knows how long, I stopped timing. Food was decent. I ordered the Honey Beef, and it was ok. Sauce was cool, beef was overcooked. The currys and pad thai were tasty.
Actually, yes, this place is 1 star. 1 star forezra. -

Been here a few times. I always enjoy coming, especially when you get to sit at the cool floor seating tables. They have an extensive vegetarian menu which is really nice. Really enjoyed all of our dishes, especially the roti appetizer and the panang curry.
My only big complaint was the hostess. She was rude on the phone when I called to make a reservation and made weird, almost condescending comments about my name. She was really frazzled and unfriendly to most of the customers who walked in after us (which happened to be directly in front of our table) especially when they wanted to also be seated at one of the low floor tables. I do appreciate her letting us sit there since we were celebrating a birthday, but she really could have a more positive attitude since she is the face of the restaurant.
I'd still go back to the restaurant; the rest of the staff was great. I was definitely pleased with our food and cocktails. -

My default place for a good dinner. Can never go wrong when taking guests or outsiders to this place. Have been going here for the past 5 years and will continue going. I am a vegetarian and there are plenty of options , the service is good and the ambience is nice. HAve found other good places for Thai food in bay area, but this one is at the top.

I'm not a huge fan of Thai food and will really only go if majority rules. But Amarin is a whole other story. The place is always packed, which is a good sign, but the food is also pretty decent. The BBQ Chicken was spot on. Maybe it's because it's not so strong with Thai specific flavors, but it was very well roasted and juicy. The garlic rice is amazing and for those who shy away from ginger, no worries. The ginger is barely noticeable. For the price, I think that the portions are actually a little smaller than I'd expect, but i guess that's how some thai food runs.
I like that Amarin has a variety of seating which is good for small or large groups. In the main dining area, there are asian styled tables/seats which is meant for the large groups. The seats are hard to explain so you'll have to see for yourself, but it makes me want to find a bunch of people to take there so I can eat there. They've done quite a bit of renovating so they can fit in more tables. It's actually a little weird because the last time I went, they put our table against the door that was at an angle with my friend having to sit right under the door frame.
It's definitely worth a try. Especially if you like Thai good. -
Review from Chris O.
Good food and very dog friendly outdoor seating :)
I had the Tom Kha Gai, and some vege freid rice both were very good. My GF also had some duck dish that was excellent. I also liked the location and style of the place.
But what I really loved was that they not only had a water bowl for my pooch but also brought him a treat, how cool is that?!
I don't get the low ratings here, it was at least a 4 star experience for us. -

The food was just ok. Not bad but not good. The service was horrible!! The man serving us did not smile and rushed us into ordering by asking several times if we were ready to order. Then he told us he needed the table for other customers!! Nothing implied or pleasantly said, just flat-out rude!! Totally rushed us out. And we had not been there long. He just lost a lot of customers unfortunately.
And by the looks of the other reviews this restaurant has a long history of bad service with rude servers...someone needs to tell them. -
Review from David W.
Came here at about 12PM on a weekday and it was packed (as is any other restaurant on Castro). We were seated right away, so that is a plus...but what was to come definitely turned that plus into a minus...
What I remember most about this place is not the food (it wasn't so great) nor the service (it was bad) but it was how long we had to wait for our food to arrive. Try 40 minutes on a weekday. Come on...most people who come eat on Castro have WORK, so waiting 40 minutes for LUNCH is inexcusable.
NOW WHAT DID I EAT?! I SERIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW...I think I had the Pad See Ew or something but it wasn't amazing at all, so therefore...I have erased it from my memory. I think I remember eating some chicken satays, which were mediocre and small.
I remember drinking a lot of water to pass our time, so that may have been the most memorable part of the meal. I don't mean to sound too harsh or anything because the waiters/waitresses do seem pretty nice, but when it comes to FOOD, I don't care if Oprah Winfrey is my waiter...I will still write a bad review for you if it takes you that long to serve us appetizers. -

This is a difficult review for me because I am not a big fan of Thai Food. I took my mom out here for a lunch date and I can say a lot of good things about this place.
First things first. Location is huge for me when picking a restaurant. Given the area and demographic, it's in a great part of town. Mountain View, in general, has done an excellent job with their downtown, keeping it really nice and classy, yet at the same time keeping it pretty down to earth, as well. I like that a lot, considering this is coming from a Filipino kid from the Barrio, I like nice things, and I also like to keep things pretty low key and down to earth.
Food is good. Mom had the pad thai and I had the spicy chicken. The food came pretty quickly and I must say it tasted really really good!
This place is on the classy end of my spectrum, in terms of price, so the bill was more expensive than my usual tastes. I will say that the prices are reasonable and a return trip would be in order.

I used to have a friend who worked in Mtn. View (well, actually she still does, but regretably, we're no longer friends - but hey! that's probably more than you needed (or wanted) to know)! Anyway, I used to meet her for lunch about once or twice a month,so its been awhile since I've been back to this restaurant.
It was so gorgeous yesterday we wanted to sit outside. At 11:45A, the waiter was setting up plates & silverware and instructed us to sit inside and wait. I said ok, but that we wanted to have our meal outside, and he said "no, need to clean up, go sit inside". Five minutes later he's got half of the tables set up but still turned 2 ladies away who also straggled inside. WTH?
A waitress came with menus and I again said we'd like to sit outside and she said "sure, go ahead." Now what was wrong with Seating Nazi? Geez, give someone a little power..... plus, it was NOT clean - right next to my chair leg was a leftover Starbucks plastic cup with leftover coffee and congealed cream.
We started off with Duck Summer Rolls - haven't had duck in them before and they were good; more duck would have been better (is more duck ever a BAD thing?). My hubs decided to try something new and opted for Crispy Catfish Salad and I stuck with my Pad Thai. I tried a bite of his salad and I'm totally intrigued with this dish now -- you taste the "essence" of fish, but no actual PIECES of fish. HUH? Yes, I know, I was confused too.
I felt like they'd fried some catfish, taken it out of the pan, then fried some breadcrumbs in the same pan and put them in the salad. The breadcrumbs added a nice crunch and the julienned mango (and I don't even LIKE mango or so I thought) with the dressing was delish. Very refreshing with clean tastes.
I GOOGLE'd the receipe when I got home and after reading all the steps involved, I'll just be ordering that out, thanks! :)
My Pad Thai with Shrimp was very good; the shrimp may have been a tad overdone, but still very good, good amount of shrimp AND, lots of Pad Thai - seriously, we could have split that, so I'll be having that for lunch today....mmmmmm.
Service - not great - first the Seating Nazi with his attitude, then the girl who took our order, never brought my Diet Pepsi, so had to ask 2nd person who brought our order, 3rd person who took dishes and brought bill..... but hey, we got fed and our table was cleared so no biggie. -

Just ok. We ordered:
House fried rice
Prawns curry
Tiger cry Beef
Pan Fried noodle w/ pork (Pad se ewe)
Deep fried tofu and Shitake mushroom
EVERYTHING was forgettable. Well, actually, I really enjoyed the tiger cry beef, the sauce was incredible with the beef. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but needs more Thai flavor and less pineapple. The pineapple over powered everything. -

Complimentary soup if you dine in.
I came here with a former co-worker a couple of weeks ago during lunch rush and this place was packed. Even though they were super packed, our food was prepared very quickly. I ordered the Pad Thai which wasn't too bad. If I'm in the area, I may check out other items on their menu.
Tip: Ask for lemon on the side and squeeze it over your Pad Thai. It makes it very delicious! -

If I could give this restaurant a negative rating I would give it a negative 10. I've been here before when it wasn't too busy and the food was pretty good. After spending some time at the Tide House I walked over to Amarin looking for some good Thai Food. We were seated right away and then that was it....no service....no hello....no water...no nothing. I raised my hand a few times to get someone's attention and even made eye contact with this lazy @$$ waiter (the only male waiter there). He was standing about 4-5 tables away from me folding napkins and he looked straight at me then stopped folding and walked away...unbelievable. We patiently waited while one of the waiters "hussled" around and the other slowly walked around (practically at a crawling pace). We patiently waited for about 15 minutes and then decided to walk out!!!
Very poor service and I don't plan on going back! -

It was a not-so-busy night when I came with my brother and sister -in-law. The hostess found us a table very quickly but then it went straight down. The chair wasn't clean. But once we finally got seated, we waited for 10 min and finally had to ask for water.
The food came quickly. But the servers (they switched between 2) were rather curt. I mean this one guy slammed the plates on our table and didn't care ask who ordered what. And what shocked us the most was when my brother hadn't even finished his appetizer, the waiter took away the plate right from under his nose... and never apologized even when we called him out. This was by far the most awful experience we've ever had. We're never going back again and wouldn't recommend you do either. This place deserves a zero but 1's the lowest you could give out here -

So I've been to this restaurant 2 times. I loved it the first time I was here and was sure to visit again. I actually hadn't check the reviews on yelp when I visited it for the first time. I probably wouldn't have tried it if I had. However I did and I'm so glad I did. I checked the reviews before I visited it again and was so surprised to see it had only 3 stars. I still decided to visit again.
The restaurant was packed. There were precisely 2 tables vacant when we got there. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. Within minutes we were presented the menu. We ordered the Roti for the appetizer and the chicken sizzling curry, the Bangkok chicken and the drunken chicken. The roti was served within 5-7 minutes of placing the order. It was tasty, hot and fresh. Loved it. Whilst we were eating the roti we decided to order one more appetizer- the angel wings ( deboned chicken wings stuffed with minced chicken). The server informed us that it would take around 10 minutes for the same. We agreed. To our surprise it was served within 5 minutes. The wings were nice. I wont say the best but nice to tryout.
Post this our appetizer plates were cleared and the main course was served. all 3 dishes were very well flavored and garnished. My favorite was the Drunken Chicken. The last time I was here I tried the Penang curry. That too was very tasty.
The service received on both my visits was efficient and couldn't find a reason to complain. Do note that the restaurant was packed.
Overall I had a great time and I would definitely visit this again. -

Sorry, 2 stars seems super low but this place is not great. Like someone mentioned in a few posts down, the place looks appealing b/c it looks busy but the food was not good at all. The green curry with eggplant was thick and almost flavorless and the peanut sauce with the roti was straight up gross. Its castro street prices with really crappy food, it makes no sense. I really like thai food so this was a harsh but honest review, I def. prefer going to Rice Thai or Pattaya (WHICH IS APPARENTLY CLOSED NOW?! what?!)
