Under new ownership in 2011.  I went back a week or so ago and ordered the old favorites, mussels, salmon and more.   Everything was perfect and the wait staff was so much nicer than in days gone by because they too were happier it appeared.

Service was brisk, food was excellent.  It's back to a 4-5 star eatery which is the best you'll get around here.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been to this establishment many times over the years and enjoyed many fine meals there..now I don't know if they have new owners, or new chefs, but something clearly has changed for the worse. Amari used to be a great option in the area for Italian, but they have let the quality slip big time. Dishes they served years ago no longer resemble themselves. Had a terrible rubbery eggplant parm there about a year ago and sort of wrote Amari off, but tonight my wife and I decided to give it another try. We were treated to an awful Shrimp Scampi  drowned in congealed butter, was like literally 100% butter sauce, and an extraordinarily bland  Zuppa di Pesce with nearly raw pasta. Why put pasta in a Zuppa di Pesce anyhow? It really cheapens that dish.

Have no problem paying $60 for a good meal, but this sucked. Amari, it's not too late to change! Get the old chef back or hire a new one.
4 star prices, 1 star food. I'll pass thank you.

I came one night and they had squash ravioli which was delicious. But then I went again on 2/13 and it wasn't on the menu or on the specials. So I ordered another dish of lasagna only to be let down.
The lasagna was dry and had crusty edging and little sauce. The wine is overpriced and there are no free soda refills. The staff always seems to disappear and leave you without water or any drink. It is cold inside both bar side and the big open room to the right.

Made to this place a few times with some friends' parking lot was full so the food must be good, eh?

With my friends claiming that the pizza here was great I tried it out and couldn't pass judgement because my palate was quenched earlier with mucho beer. It seemed ok, although my friends made claims of as good as Regina. Te original in North End not the franchises. I didn't think so but I had a bunch of beers and was along for the ride. The next time we went back we tried again and this was with a sober palate. Ugh! What the heck is that sauce? So that wasn't so good.

We also ordered several appetizers and they were ok but one did stand out as very good. It was a shrimp dish butterflied and pan fried with coconut. This was a worthy appetizer. I think it was a special, but they should put it on the regular menu.

Ok reason for four stars. We went on a Saturday night and they had a singer and a guy on electric piano. She was terrific, sultry voice, makes you want to find an old stuffy lounge to sit back have a drink and listen to some music. I'll go back just for that! I hope they're there this summer when I'm back.

Outstanding food & service... Very impressed! - We've eaten here three times this summer. Really happy with everything. I'm told that the restaurant is changing hands. I hope it doesn't change! We love it.

Parking lot gets full very quickly, but the food is great. The pizza is only good if you get it at take-out, but all Italian dishes are excellent. Highly recommend the Chicken Parmigiana.

We had a great meal at Amari, with a super-friendly atmosphere with a nice variety of pastas and Italian favorites. Everyone enjoyed their selection, and portions were large enough to save some for the next day. Doesn't Italian food lend itself well to that? The wine list was good, and we felt totally unrushed, able to enjoy visiting and catching up with old friends.

If the food was as good as the atmosphere, portions, and service, Amari would easily have a grand slam on its hands.   Unfortunately, however, it strikes out.

My wife and I were looking for a nice, intimate restaurant to have dinner while visiting the Cape  Someplace separate and apart from the usual "fried fish"  types of restaurants which seem to have overrun the area like a plague of sorts.   We came across Amari Bar & Ristorante and initially thought we had found the perfect restaurant.  An Italian nirvana in a sea of "kids-eat-free" eateries.  It was quite busy, which I took as a good sign and made a very nice upscale appearance - both inside and out.  We were promptly seated, served nice Italian bread w/accompanying dipping oil, and greeted by our server who was very friendly.   So far so good.  Right?   WRONG - Read on!

Menu was very extensive, yet consisted of the usual suspects one would expect to find in an Italian restaurant which would include different varieties of pasta, pizza, veal, chicken parm., etc. -   you get the idea.  It was actually offered a few diverse meals, too including seafood, steak, and vegetarian dishes.  Conversely, the beer and wine menu was oddly, if not exceptionally limited.

We started out with toasted ravioli which was reasonably good and  split a nice, fresh garden salad.   Had we ended our meal at that point, this review would likely be a positive one.   Regretfully, we made the fateful decision to order dinner.   I ordered penne pasta with sausage & meatballs and my wife chicken parm. with penne.   First,  the meals came out like "hungry man" platters - portions so big they both redefined the concept of gluttony, and I immediately lost my appetite.   Mind you, I'm not adverse to the idea of leftovers, but only if the food was good and, sadly, that was not the case here.  To be blunt, the pasta was overcooked and mushy, and I had no idea what the meatball was made from, while the sausage was flavorless.  My wife's meal was no better.  Actually, I think it was worse because she seemed to be struggling to cut the chicken as there was so much thick cheese on top. Both meals were bathed in tomato sauce so potent - yet, amazingly, flavorless - that I thought it would erode the lining of my esophagus. (Thankfully, we had antacid tablets with us.) Suffice to say, after a few mouthfuls we quickly cut our losses, passed on the desert (as the meal was deteriorating and didn't want to experience what would happen next), and graciously departed while vowing to never - not ever return.

So, here are the positives:   Great atmosphere, attentive service, reasonable prices, HUMONGOUS portions (only if you're into gluttony).

And, here are the negatives:  HUMONGOUS portions (if you're not into gluttony), overcooked mushy pasta, flavorless meal, drowned in a cheap tomato sauce which could easily remove the rust from a nail.  Or the lining from the esophagus.    Guaranteed indigestion.

Bottom line:  Stick to the "fried fish" type of restaurants.   They seem to know what they're doing!

I love the zuppa de pesce!  So delicious, but have been disappointed when I try something new.  Friendly service, the owner runs the kitchen and comes across as a jerk.  It is an open kitchen and you can see and hear him get angry with cooks and waitstaff, very awkward and unprofessional.  But I keep going back, love the apps too!

One of the better, nicer restaurants in the area, with a New Italian-type menu.
