so we were driving back from tuscon to LA and needed lunch, and thank goodness for iphones we were able to see what the best-yelped restaurant in Blythe is- the Amapola!
Off the beaten path so we'd never have neded up here, but rather in a 100-person jack in the box line. Got in here, and it was pretty clear that everyone eating was actually from Blythe, not passing through. And it was crowded.
Quick friendly service, lots of chips and really good hot salsa with refills... Got the machaca burrito which was supposedly so good and it WAS! Clearly a homemade tortilla, really tasty, not greasy, and actually not big at all, which isn't necessarily a bad thing when you're driving 10 hours.
My friend got the carne asada burritos, and they were also a party in your mouth.
They even gave me a refill coke to-go.
So yes, this is probably your best bet in Blythe. -

Is it closed? Google Maps/Street View shows it has moved to 218 N. Main St.

Sadly, it looks like the Amapola is being gutted--this was perhaps the best taco I ever ate, and I am sorry for the family losing their business.

Finding reasonable food on this stretch of the highway is a little bit of a challenge-- it's a sea of chain restaurants and fast food. Amapola did the job, and probably beats out most of the other local options.
I was pretty appalled upon entering however-- when I encountered a restaurant first. We were told to sit anywhere (yay!) and that she'd come and clear things off. OK, we went to sit down at a booth... where we were staring down at the last peoples plates, chips, and drinks.. yuck. Nothing like staring at dirty plates and half eaten chips to get the ole appetite going. It was at least five minutes or so before they cleared the table for us.
Food was good--- a little heavily relying on cheese for me. It was authentic-tasting but nothing to write home about. I had a enchilada/taco/tostada combo. Still way better than fast food. -

The food was pretty average and the restaurant had a musty smell inside which wasn't very appetizing. The salsa was good but neither my husband nor I were impressed overall.

It was just so great to roll in to town after a long day of driving and be able to get something local that was pretty darn good. The fish tacos hit the spot. They came with pinto beans and rice, and the sides were my favorite part. Everything was very fresh and homemade. Good prices. I would definitely go back!

Their machaca verdura is the best anywhere. And their chili relleno is almost as good.
The tortillas are made on site, and are scorched to perfection just before serving.
If you can get them to make them, their tamales are as good as they get, too. Nothing we have ever tasted anywhere, including years at the Indio Tamale Festival comes close. This is my favorite Mexican food in the world, and has been for 30 years. -

These guys do a great fish taco. Not much atmosphere, but it is a local place.
