These guys are my heros. Once or twice a week I am too tired to cook but I want something healthy, they bring me avacado chicken salad... the best salad I have ever had delivered, maybe the best salad i've received from a restaurant. Nice mixed greens , a whole grilled chicken breast! Dressing on the side. YUMMY!
Also the artichoke dip rocks!!!
There is probably one in your neighborhood!
Yowza.
"I don't want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need...." It's Christmas in July! Oh wait, no, that's just an old Christmas cd the manager popped into the stereo back in December and hasn't removed since. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, it really got me in the holiday spirit after my long, sweaty summer walk around Greenlake.
I should have vetoed coming when my friend turned to me and said, "I've never been here before, so if it's bad, don't blame me." Sorry honey, I can't help it. I'm a yelper.
Food = Way, way, way too expensive. My portion of pasta (for $13) was indeed enormous (think Claim Jumper sized) but I wasn't interested in eating more than a few bites of it and my side salad looked like a science experiment and was drenched in not so tasty raspberry vinaigrette. Cheese bread was good, though. My friend ordered a pizza that looked like it was straight out of a pizza hut commercial. Do they deliver to other restaurants? On the up side, our husbands will be fed for days.
Staff = Very attentive and smiley. Of course, we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night at 7:30. I try to avoid empty restaurants but sometimes get sucked in (thanks Melissa) but it didn't seem to bother our server. I'm guessing the place is empty 90% of the time.
P.S. - a bunch of the Italian on their menu is spelled wrong. See if you can find all the mistakes! Or, better yet, just don't come here.
I really like this place for a casual dinner out with our 2 kids (6,7). It's light on 'ambiance' but the three times we've been, it's quiet and clean--great for a weeknight meal. They do have unique soundtracks. The food is quite good, ingredients fresh, salads tasty. Portions are enormous for a single person (we do family style) and well priced. Service was prefectly fine.
Foodwise, I think Amante's much better than than Greenlake Bar and Grill which I find pretty generic and poorly executed.
I have to be fair. I went again with my kids. The food was good. My kids had a good time and the service was very nice. Consistancy is what is needed though.
I may take my kids again, just because it does have a bit of a family atmosphere going on, except for the big shattered glass door at the entrance.
A tip rather then buy a huge traffic stopping sign....How about fix the front door that has been shattered for like 6 months.

Shame on me, why didn't I check yelp before going to this restaurant? I intended on ordering pizza but was lured into getting the pasta. Bad decision! The pasta tasted like something I could make at home with store bought pasta and canned sauce. Definitely not worth the $14 I paid. Our waiter was friendly and had a very nice smile, I think that's the only reason why I'm giving it two stars.
One day while walking past Amante's, I heard someone else give the advice to a couple who was trying to decide between this place and Greenlake Bar & Grill say... "Greenlake Bar & Grill is the place to go for food and service. Amante's is the place to go to get change for the meter."
WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE!!!
The food is decent, something to fill the stomach.. that's about it.
Service and attitude... HMMMM.. has ALWAYS been questionable and the main reason why I will NEVER eat here again... This is based on more than a one time experience. A LOT of the time it takes at least 2 attempts to get an order right, which is pathetic.
I don't have complicated orders. ONLY one special request, I don't want the salad that comes with the pasta dishes THAT'S IT Still get charged full price though!!!
When something has been forgotten, I have to call them. They deliver something that was supposed to go for another delivery, they come knocking (without a call from me), asking for it back so they can deliver it to who actually ordered it (which scares me). We're all human and make mistakes.., BUT it's been more than just a few times..
The last and FINAL time I ordered from this place, the amount of times I had to interact with the staff was EXHAUSTING.
Ordered: Pasta, no salad and cheese bread.
First time delivering:... Pasta only... Call back..
Staff: "Well, you didn't order any cheese bread. It's not here in the computer. I didn't make the mistake."
Response: "Ok, that's strange, I thought I had. Can I please have an order of cheese bread delivered to me, then?" Thought: This is a normal order for me, comes out of my mouth with no problem. Is it possible that you screwed up as you have done numerous times in the past?? Not going to argue, not worth the energy...
Staff: "Sure, we'll be there in 10 minutes and the cost is X"
Thought: Rolling my eyes, because I know my total when I order this and I already paid for it. WHATEVER
Second delivery:
Delivery attitude: You stupid girl
Thought: I'm not the one who screwed up in the first place, I tip you minimum 20% or better every time and you only have to drive 2 blocks...
OPEN IT UP.. IT'S BREADSTICKS, NOT CHEESE BREAD...
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!
Calling back, Conversation:
Me: "I ordered cheese bread and received breadsticks." Frustration now coming through in my tone of voice
Staff: "No, you ordered breadsticks."
Response: "No I did not, I ordered cheese bread." Thought: I've ordered breadsticks only once..They're not worth the $3.95 plus tax you pay for them!!!
Staff: "Well, it's right here in the computer... you ordered breadsticks. I did not make the mistake." Then this long dissertation on how he never makes a mistake, that all this has been my problem, etc..
Thought: Here we go again.. YOU could NEVER make a mistake..
Response: "Well, I know I did not order the breadsticks. I have a receipt showing that I paid for cheese bread (a $2 difference) and what I have are breadsticks. I would like what I ordered and paid for."
Staff: Insults me AGAIN, again states that I'm wrong and how he's not going to send cheese bread because there was no mistake on his part.
Response: "Well, I KNOW I did not order this, I'm not going to pay for something I didn't order and won't eat. SO, I can either come down to your place, return the breadsticks and you can give me my money back OR you can come to me, give me my money back and I'll give you the breadsticks."
After more argument.. They finally came up, took the breadsticks back and gave the money back, short some & no cheese bread. Wonder if they delivered / used the breadsticks for someone else???
MUCH later, to aggravate the situation even more... I received a phone call from the "manager"
She offered a free meal the NEXT TIME I order from them, not offering to reimburse me for the meal that night. I asked why she couldn't reimburse this evenings meal as is common practice for a lot of restaurants?? (Thinking, after tonight's ordeal I TRULY doubt I will ever order from here again).
She stated that she didn't know how to credit the card on the machine and didn't have authorization to give a credit. Yet you are the manager, right??..Well, yes.. HMMM....
Their food IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH to go through this much trouble / expend the energy it normally takes to receive what you ordered!!!
HORRIBLE! Food was awful; and I don't recall asking for extra hair on my pizza (no joke, there were more than a couple hairs in/on my food). Disgusting.
Avoid this place at all costs; bad food, gross "extras" and overpriced!
Alli's Stomach: "I want calzones. Feed me now."
Alli: "OK, let me consult my handy-dandy calzonometer to find nearest place that makes them."
Calzonometer: "Please. Stand. By...Processing...Processing...Ding!"
Alli: "Good news, Stomach! Amante just down the street, makes and delivers calzones! What sounds good?"
Alli's Stomach: "Veggie Calzone please. Oh yeah and make me some salad."
*30 minutes later*
Calzonometer: "Calzone. Approaching. Please. Ready. Payment."
Alli's Stomach: "And make it snappy."
Alli's Wallet: "$24.00? For 2 calzones? That's crazy talk!"
Alli: "So worth it!"
Alli's Stomach: "Confirmed. Cheesy doughy veggie saucy goodness."
Alli's Wallet: "Hmmph."
To summarize: VERY good pizza and calzones, but the price is a bit much. I only live a few blocks away so it usually takes half the time they say it will. (And on a more personal note, yes, I might have a minor personality disorder.)
While my hubby and son hung out at Green Lake Community Center I went on a trek for our lunch. I wandered around a bit, circling Amante at least three times. On the 4th lap I walked in to an empty and nicely decorated dining room. 12 minutes later I departed with my whole order of Greek Salad and an XL Feta Fetish pizza.
Although we had to wait to dig in until getting back home (30 minutes to drive 4 miles, ugh) the pizza lukewarm was awesome. It reminded my husband of sausage and me of chili relleno and it was all consumed over the course of the day quite easily. The Greek Salad was okay. I prefer more bell peppers, tomato, and kalamata olives in my salad and this one was predominantly lettuce. It was very fresh, just not what I was hoping for which is what knocks Amante down a star for me.
Good food, fast service, large servings and average pricing. I will be back again.
any place that is lucky enough to get me on a completely empty stomach, usually has an advantage in the star department. Amante definitely satisfied my appetite.
me and the homies set things off with the cheesebread. proper! although it took a minute my rosemary chicken ravioli came through. my only beef with this, is the portion size.
it seems like every italian restaurant assumes that because you're eating pasta you're on some kinda diet. and if you are on one, then the water glass should be a little more full. but in all fairness, one waitress had to hold it down for the entire restaurant.
if it's convenient this is a coo spot, but otherwise the prices don't make it worth making your way out to Greenlake.
I have an unnaturally strong love for pizza. I say this because I delivered plenty of pizza in college, thus eating even more than the average, not-delivering-pizza student, and yet I still would eat it multiple times per week, finances & laziness cooperating.
I hadn't tried Amante before, nor even heard of them. However, their house special pie (including shredded pepperoni & pine nuts) tempted me with its similarity to Pegasus' "Tom's Special". And I live in the delivery area. And I've got a coupon for a free order of wings with the purchase of any large or x-large pie. What the hell, I'll give them a shot.
What a bland mistake. The crust - neither unobjectively thick, nor particularly thin & delicate, yet impressively bland & damp on the bottom. The sauce - particularly umimpressive, due to its lack of seasoning & general tomato-y goodness, and scarcity... I think it was applied via spray brush. The toppings - many in theory, but again disappointingly sparse in actuality. Yes, there were examples of each, but certainly not on every slice.
The wings? Eh, good thing they were free. Improved by liberal application of Frank's hot sauce & some time in a hot toaster oven.
The service? No complaints. Easy phone transaction, delivery sooner than indicated. Not enough to tempt me to order a second time, especially in lieu of the price. I'll go for Pizza Time if I want bland, mediocre pizza delivered - for half the price.
I've order Pizza from this location and the Capitol Hill one and each time I was greeted by a hot italian woman. I think it's a requirement in order to work there. I ordered a specialty pizza on first and second visit and it was amazing, third time though which was a pepperoni pizza was a gut-bomb. Three stars the pizza, one star for the atmospere and eye candy!
hnestly, i go here for their side salad. its the most basic salad ever but SO good. romaine with lots of mozzarella and olives. and then it comes with one slice of tomato and one slice of cucumber so i can say i ate other veggies! their caesar dressing is also pretty yummy.
the pizza is also really good. i usually get the amante special and its great reheated too.
the pasta is just so/so. its pasta but there is nothing exciting enough about it to not boil it at my house instead. also, the breadsticks should be skipped, theyre really not very good at all.
the service has always been really good but i still just dont love the restaurants, i think it may be the lighting or something. but its worth it, and delivery is always yummy.
Amante's has quickly ceased to impress me. The last time I ordered from them, I indicated that I would be paying cash. When my food arrived, the delivery driver wanted me to sign a credit card receipt for the exact same cost of my food charged to a card I don't own! He didn't seem to understand what I was saying, so I called the restaurant, asking for the manager. She was unbelievably rude, as is the norm whenever I've called there about an issue with my order. I can't believe they'd charge someone else for my food, take my money for my food, AND get pissy when I call them about the problem. I won't ever order from them again, as my credit card information is OBVIOUSLY not secure.
Had a BBQ Chicken Calzone and Nachos (NOT in one sitting, lol!). It was scrumptious.
BTW, the portions are HUGE. This will last me several days. Pretty good deal for the price.
The House Special pizza is delicious. I was impressed by their large variety of specialty pizzas. Dine in was fine, they had Mac and Jacks on tap which was great, and the service was a solid average. They brought the apps out before the pizza, which I appreciated, I hate places that bring everything out at once. Only been here once so this is more like 3.5 stars, but I'll definitely be back.
