Review from Brad P.
This is the the most serious Indian buffet I've had in a while. For only $9.95 you can stuff your gluttonous face with probably the best gulab jamun I've ever had. I probably butchered the spelling of that but I'm going to keep it as it is. I'm not going to google for the real spelling because real men don't correct their mistakes - they move on.
Interestingly enough, the chicken tikka masala is one of the weaker offerings on this buffet, but I didn't care. The veggie dishes are great and the samosas are really, really great. Now here's one nobody saw coming - tea and mango lassi are included in the buffet. However, this isn't just weak mango juice with some salt in it. This is some tasty freaking lassi. I was very pleased.
The decor of this establishment is also worth mentioning, as it is very nice. -
Review from Kunal P.
This place is just flawless.
The naan is soft yet crispy with perfect amount of butter on it.
The masala chai is perfectly spiced without overwhelming the taste of the tea.
The mango lassi is perfect, not watered down, not too sweet, not too bland.
The Gulab Jammu is perfectly tender, not overcook, not under simmered.
The kheer isn't watered down with undercooked rice or made with basmati rice.
The rice/biriyani is perfectly soft to bite, not too overpowering in taste to drown out other dishes.
Butter Chicken not too buttery, perfectly cooked chicken.
Chicken Manchuri not over powering spicy, but spicy enough to palate your taste buds, perfectly tender chickens.
and the list goes on and on and on.....
You can't go wrong with making a trip out to Chalfton. Yes, it may seem like its out of the way. Yes, you may get stuck in traffic going through construction laden roads.
But, well worth it.
Been here close to a dozen times. And, will keep going until my car develops a brain and steers me away towards a different direction.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Here comes Dev again. after the success of his first restaurant in Norristown he moved one over to Chalfont and handed over reins of Amans cuisine to his chef.
Amans Bistro's ambiance is somewhat formal yet laid back. Dev's food has certainly improved and his desire to please I must say have not left him. We had a combination of dishes and were all very pleased and satisfied with his fare. His chicken Tikka is irrestible as is the shahi Panir and roganjosh. His punjabi saag is still same old country punjabi style just as nani would make.
we left and hope to come again soon. -

Some friends and I ate here and we really enjoyed it. We all ordered different dishes and enjoyed them all. The naan was really good. The appetizer they brought out before we ordered were perfectly crisp and the chutneys perfect. The service was good and friendly. The place really started to get packed, which would be one of the downsides.

For the price it is good Indian that is close to Doylestown. I always get the chicken tikka masala, my husband gets the chicken vindaloo and my daughter gets the chicken korma. They are all good. One of these days I would like to try their lunch buffet but it seems we always go for dinner. You can also order online for pick up.

I went there for lunch. It's located in a plaza near an intersection and seemed to have ample amount of parking spaces. The decors were decent and semi modern. Not too many tables.. I would say around 20 or less. I went there for the lunch buffet. I tried pretty much everything they had laid out..even the mango yogurt-ish stuff. I honestly can't remember the names of what I ate but they were all pretty tasty. They have the bread, the meat, the curries, the rice, and veggies. I love spices so this was right up my alley and I think they had just the right amount of dishes to taste. Try not to think Chinese buffet where you have like a million choices.. they had probably like 10 or so different variations. I'll def go back when I'm super hungry and it's a very nice addition to the lack luster (food wise) burb area.

The food is too expensive. The food is good, but I can't see myself paying this much for small portion. I was told that all Indian food is like this... Small portion with high price.

So over the last year or more, we have thoroughly enjoyed going to Aman's to eat there with friends, bringing our own wine or ordering take-out on those really cold weeknights. The curries are all amazing, flavorful and very good. The biryani is very good, and we prefer that over the basmati rice. I will say that the naan and the pratha is a disappointment-definitely not homemade-seems like they buy it frozen and pop it in the oven or something because it doesn't reheat well nor does it have that texture and taste delicious/hot naan I have had before has.
Last week will be the last time I go here for a long time. So disappointing, how they ripped us off! They changed their take out containers to smaller containers AND changed their prices without posting it online or on their menu. The lamb korma is now $18.95, but you used to get a larger container, now it's half that amount.
We have heard great things from our neighbors about Paradise (new ownership) near the Assi supermarket so we are going to check this place out. I hope that one of these days, Aman's realizes that you can't just change how you package take-out to half the amount while over-charging for entrees in which there is more curry than there is meat/protein.Comment from Dave S. of Aman's Indian Bistro 1/4/2012

I'm moving away and I am going to miss this place SO MUCH.
The food is always spectacular. I have this problem where no matter how much I strategize, I always end up coveting what my husband ordered. But that's never a problem at Aman's because everything is so good and you get enough of it to share and take home (we like to swap our leftovers-- everybody wins!).
The service is friendly and efficient, and I never have an empty glass of water. Also, the prices are completely reasonable.
They're closed on Mondays (at least they were this past Monday when I tried to go, boo), and sometimes it's a little cold in there.
Final note: If you sit at the table all the way in the back and face the parking lot, it's possible you won't hear anything the person across from you is saying because the acoustics are wonky in that spot specifically. -

I am definitely an Indian food novice. My only other experience was so-so and I wasn't sure what to expect at Aman's. T and I went for the lunch buffet so I could try a lot of different dishes instead of being locked into one. I'm happy to say, Indian food rocks my world and my palate. Because I'm so new to the cuisine the spices exploded on my tongue and I couldn't gobble them up fast enough. I sampled a spicy chili chicken (which I think was my favorite dish of the day), tandoori chicken (a little dry but I think that's the way of tandoori), some sort of paneer (which was FABULOUS when naan was used as a vehicle for getting it into my mouth), vegetable samosas hot out of the fryer (you could deep fry shoe leather and I would think it was pretty tasty but these were particularly light and flaky with a great potato-y filling), and chicken makahani (in some sort of butter tomato sauce - yum). I also had a lentil and black bean side and potato and cauliflower ... something. It was all so good, I lost track. I also got to try the mango lassi which was good but I thought it was a little thick for during lunch. I drank it with dessert instead.
For dessert we tried: kheer (a cardamom-flavored rice pudding), gulab jamun (cottage cheese and milk balls dipped in honey syrup which don't sound appetizing but were awesome and creamy), and something else which I'm forgetting. I really liked the rice pudding with the cardamom flavor.
It's in a strip mall but sometimes you have to look past this to discover a treasure. Service was good and I can't wait to go back for dinner. Oh, and it was so cheap, we felt like we were ripping them off. I believe it was $9/person or something close to it. An amazing deal and a great meal? I'm in! -

I used to drive from Willow Grove to Norristown for Aman's food. It was the best Indian food I had found in the Philly burbs. When we moved to Hatboro, I was prepared to make the same commute. Imagine my delight when we discovered Aman's original staff had moved to Chalfont!
We love their Chicken Tikka Massala and Makhani. The portions are always more than sufficient and the wait staff can be trusted to give great recommendations. -

We decided to have Indian tonight with the entire family. I'm not a big Indian restaurant fan (strangely I'm Indian myself but find most restaurants dingy and unkept). At Aman's, well, nothing disappointed us. They met the spice level we were in search for, the quantities were more than enough, and the space itself was lofty which I like.
Overall, from the food, to the wait staff, to the decor- all was spot on.
The restaurant is also BYOB so that's a plus!
Well done. -

Went there because I haven't had Indian food in ages. We ordered an appetizer of a mix of vegetarian entrees and then had and eggplant dish and salmon tandoori for the main course. Everything was either very good or excellent. The service was OK and the atmosphere is pleasant - but you do know you're in a strip center.
The only disappointment was that before the meal they served a hard type of bread - kind of like the Indian version of a taco shell rather than naan which I would have expected. But that was a minor slip on an otherwise excellent meal -

$9 lunch buffet with Mango lassi included? Heck yeah!
Potato Samosas and misc. fried veggies are great.
The Veg "fried" rice wasn't your typical "fried rice" but it was a very nice mixture and welcome alternative to plain rice.
I ate Chicken Makhani, Paneer Tikka Masala, a goat dish, Daal Paneer (I think) and everything was really good.
Service is very quiet and attentive (for a buffet). -

Review from Ron G.

Indian dishes cooked in restaurants are quite different from dishes made at home. Indian restaurant food is definitely an indulgence and more often than not, restaurants are too liberal with their indulgent ingredients (cream, butter, ghee) and light on fresh flavors. This usually manifests as gall bladder pain soon after eating. Then aman came to the burbs..
Finally there is a local restaurant that has the proper ratio of indulgent ingredients to flavor. Their chicken tikka masala is very good but not excellent. The sauce is great, but similar to 9/10 restaurants the chicken is dry. I'm not sure why they don't cook the chicken separately, slightly undercooked, then add it to the gravy at the last minute to allow it to finish cooking. I've had well cooked chicken once at the palace at the ben in philly and it was unreal.
Their palak paneer is very good, not too creamy, good flavor, well balanced.
Their malai kofta, a dish often butchered, was quite good, dumplings were soft but still had texture, and the sauce was mild, creamy, and seasoned well. Definitely recommended.
Overall, def 4 stars for a suburban indian resturant. -

I'm a newbie when it comes to Indian food, but I really love this place. So far we've dined in once and ordered take out once, and both times we were very pleased. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and the staff was very pleasant. The food was so good that we ate too much both times . . . we couldn't resist! Their alu tikki was so delicious I could probably just eat a big plate of that for dinner. The saag paneer and saag/chicken tikka masala were also great. Can't wait to try more dishes!

Blue Bell, PA
This place needs to be full of customers...all day, every day.
I heard rumors of a "new" Amans for some time...I am a regular patron of the East Norriton location, and while I personally have no need for a new location thats 10 times farther away, I would see it as a good thing both for the Amans people and quality Indian food in general.
Housed in a non-desrcript strip mall on a non-desrcript highway in a non-desrcript town, one would be likely be wary of anything offering ethnic food (or any food at all, for that matter). This wariness would be a mistake, as this location is more than worthy of the Amans name.
Right away I was struck by the difference in interior...sure, its brand new, but also much more...modern than the East Norriton location. Plus when you factor in the jazz music instead of the Asian pop/Bollywood tunes you get at the original it is quite a difference in terms of setting.
Thankfully, the food does not deviate, and is right in step with what I would expect. Total NomFest. I haven't had the buffet here yet but I will make it a point to do that soon. The manager (owner? I forget) came by to greet our table and he was extremely friendly and welcoming. This location is related to the original but different somehow...the details lost in a vindaloo haze.
Short version: eat here immediately. -

I had given up on Indian food for awhile as I had some bad previous experiences. One of my coworkers, though, insisted that I had to try this place so we went there for lunch one day. I was quite impressed by the quality of the food and will definitely go back. Their lunch buffet is a great way to experience many different types of traditional Indian dishes..

I was visiting from CA and my family took me here during a weekday for their lunch buffet. The restaurant was pretty empty, and after grabbing my first plate off the buffet, I was completely dumbfounded as to why this place was so empty.
Just about everything was delicious. I did find the chicken in the chicken tikka marsala to be a little dry. I've heard that if you order the dish normally, the chicken is not dry.
However, I can say without a doubt that the lunch buffet is totally worth it because it has a great variety of dishes. The desserts on the lunch buffet are ok, but with great tandori chicken, fish curry and chicken tikka marsala, I can overlook the ok desserts.
Service was alright - not bad, but not great. I had to ask for the naan because they forgot to bring it out and I asked for a water refill once. Otherwise, the two guys working the room were pretty attentive.
If I lived here, I would probably go back all the time for the lunch buffet. I can't remember, but I think it costs $12 or $13 per person. -

Hands down the best Indian food I've had in the Philadelphia area. Everything I've had there has been fantastic--or at the very least good--and the wait staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The atmosphere is nice without being too formal, and the prices, while not cheap, are also not expensive. I felt everything was priced more than fairly for both the quality and the quantity. Highly recommend!

Here's the thing.. There's not a lot of good ethnic food in the burbs. In fact, that's an understatement. Good Suburban ethnic food is like an oxymoron. This place has good food. Score, right ? Sort of. Good food, yes. Good dining, well, pretty good. The space is in a strip mall. Its one large non descript room adorned by very little. The ambiance would not be considered a strength at Aman"s. The service is okay. The place was full at 7:30 on a Saturday night and they were a little overwhelmed in terms of it taking some time to get around to filling up waters, taking orders. The staff was cordial and apologetic about the delays though. I'd give the ambiance a 1 and the service a 3. On to the food: mango lassis, veg and lamb samosas, Naan, chicken vindaloo, and chicken tikka. All received high marks from my dining companion and I. It's a shame this place is a 30 min drive for me as it would be great for take out. I might be back if I'm with the fam and looking for a fairly inexpensive (my check for 2 was $45 with tip and we were full and had some leftovers) meal. Bottom line: I'm still going 4 stars because despite the lack of ambiance, etc., it compares favorably to it's peers (I.e. other bucks county Indian restaurants)

Ohmygod. Best Indian food I've ever had. Ever.
I recommend going at the "white people early dinner" time of 6:30 PM. My family basically had the whole place to ourselves!
They start you off with a delicious, featherlight crisp bread and some dipping sauces...a sweet and a spicy. Because my family is a fan of all things bread, we ordered a type of sweet naan with raisins and nuts as our appetizer. This is seriously the best naan I've had in my life. I'm going to be saying that about the rest of our meals (best ___ of my life), so for brevity's sake, I'll leave that out of the rest of this review.
Once we demolished our sweet naan, we needed MORE BREAD. Regular naan this time, also a delight.
I got the Malai Kofta (veggie dumplings in a "mild cream sauce" that I requested spicy). This was my first time ordering this dish so I wasn't sure what to expect, but everyone loved it (sharing is caring).
My mom got the Palak Paneer. Now, I love Palak Paneer, but this stuff was unlike any I've had. Not dripping with oil, just a thick, powerful punch of spinach and homemade cheese with just the right amount of spice. If you think you've had the best Palak Paneer...you haven't until you go here. Trust me.
My boyfriend got a dish that I haven't really seen at other Indian restaurants: Paneer tikka masala or something like that. Basically the homemade cheese cubes in a nice and spicy-sweet sauce. Delicious.
The portions at this place are not huge, which is good and bad...good in that you can actually stand up after your meal and even have some mediocre Rita's water ice next door, and bad in that I wanted an infinite supply of leftovers because I never wanted this meal to end.
Hyperbole? Maybe. Check this place out, and you tell me.Listed in: Veggie-friendly joints

I went to my usual eatery in Doylestown, Crossciulture only to find that they are closed for renovation. A quick search yileded Aman's Bistro in Chalfont. Not knowing what to expect we went for dinner and the place was wondeful. We only ate vegetarian and all dishes were delicious including an indo-chinese selection (Hakka-Noodles). Prices are reasonable and I hope they remain the same. I also hope they maintain their quality, which is a big issue in south asean owned businesses.

Tonight my husband and I went to Aman's in Chalfont, after having dined at the Aman's in Norristown, the restaurant in Chalfont didn't disappoint. It was incredible. I can't handle heat in my food, which is different than handling spices, I love cardamom, garlic, ginger etc., it's the chili and cayenne that give me problems. I told our waiter that I needed everything to be very, very mild, and to my delight, I was able to eat everything! The Lamb Korma was the least mild, but still at my doable edge. It was flavorful and slightly sweet. The Mali Kofta that had been mentioned in a previous review was deliciously perfect. It was creamy, light and seasoned exactly as I would have expected. My absolute favorite was the Goan Chicken, the chicken melted in my mouth, it was sweet and coconut was the prominent flavor. It was smooth, delectable and had the most incredible taste when paired with the Garlic Naan. My Mango Lassi was just the right beverage to cool down the heat of the Lamb Korma, and complemented the flavors of the 3 dishes we enjoyed. By getting three meals, we were each able to sample all three and have enough left over for another meal. We did order extra rice to go with our leftovers.
The atmosphere was comfortable and contemporary. The clean lines of the decor allowed for the decorative vases and cultural influenced accessories to leap forward and add the flare that the restaurant needed to warm it up. I loved the placement of the buffet. It is located toward the back of the restaurant so it is not the first thing you see when you enter the space.
We recognized the waiter who we suspect was also the manager from the Norristown location. He was attentive and professional, as was the other waiter that helped with delivering our food to the table.
We look forward to our next outing to Aman's Indian Bistro in Chalfont. It's the best Indian food we have although not very close to home. -

Really good! We had the buffet. All of the food seems homemade and tasted wonderful! You would expect a buffet to be a bit more manufactured and dull but not here. The spices were plentiful and rich. Each of the offerings were as if we ordered them aa a single, main meal. The decor and background music are relaxing and the entire place, from dining area to buffet to restrooms were extremely clean. Highly recommend.

We used to frequent the East Norriton location and even had our rehearsal dinner there. Since we moved, this location is closer to us. We love it! The food is consistently great. My favorites are the Dal Makhani and Sag Paneer. They are my comfort foods. The manager is so nice and always has suggestions when I try to order the same dishes. The mango pudding is a must for dessert!

Good food - poor ambience. My wife and I had dinner here last night (Saturday Feb 27) at about 6:45pm. There were quite a few people already in the restaurant when we arrived, but it was packed by the time we left. There is precious little to choose from as far as indian cuisine goes in our neck of the burbs, so I am happy that Aman is here, because the food is very good and well priced - but the ambience is about as creative as a brown paper bag, so take-out, and a candle lit dinner at home may be a better bet if you are looking for somewhere to impress your date.

I am from New York and my husband and I have been to Malyasia twice and have had some of the best Indian food in the world. We are very picky about our Indian food. When I moved to Bucks County, PA 6 years ago, there was no good ethnic food around, including Indian. I missed all of it very much. We tried practacly every Indian restaurant in Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomary County that we could find. We never found anything great. Then Cross Culture opened in Doylestown and we really liked it. That was by far the best Indian food around in PA. Not amazing, but definitly excellent. But Cross Culture is very expensive for a ethnic restaurant. We passed Aman's one day and decided to give it a try after reading some positive reviews. Wow, really impressed. Just as good as Cross Culture and about half the price. The place was packed. I always judge an Indian restaurant first on their tamarin & mint sauces and theirs were close to perfect!!! The Roganjosh sauce was excellent as well as the papadam. The vegtable somosas were a little different but very good. If you go, you have to try the garlic naan, it was the best we have ever had. The place was very crowded for a week night, which was surprising, plus there were many Indian people dining there, which is always a good sign. They were understaffed, looked like one guy waiting on the whole restaurant but we got in before the crowd so we got lucky. They need to hire more wait staff for sure. Great plus, they are a BYOB. In fact, we are getting take out from there as we speak, can't wait for my two year old to try it and see if she likes Indian food. Now, if we can just find a great Thai restaurant here, we would be all set.
