I came for in Sunday (apparently right before they closed to prepare for Dinner) for a snack and a beer with my wife and was pleasantly surprised.  I like nice places like this.  Lots of friendly waiters.  Three beers on tap.  A wine cellar.

Nice place to catch up on the Sunday Times or have a huge fancy party.

I'm sure Amanda's is a great place, but I definitely went on the wrong night.

We went there on Valentines Day for dinner, which is a huge ordeal at Amanda's. We somehow snagged a reservation and I was pretty excited for it after hearing all the good reviews. I know, I know. I should have never gone on VDay.

The menu was prix fixe, a three course meal. I felt like the food was already prepared, and we were served SO fast. I understand that they want to fit a lot of people in, but this was annoying. We were done with all three courses before we even drank half of our bottle of wine! For the price of this meal, they shouldn't have been rushing anyone. As soon as our appetizers were taken away, our bulk-prepared dinners were already waiting.

I hope Amanda's is a lot better than this on a regular evening, and I do plan to try it one day despite how turned off I was by this experience.

The place is cute, I'll give it that.  Charming and refined in an English Victorian style.  It is very ooh-la-la upon entering in an understanding elegant sort of way.

My husband, aunt, and myself went here for Sunday Brunch.  The three of us  are big fans of and always in search of the perfect brunch...and this just didn't make the cut.

Upon entering, we were seated in a somewhat transitional area between the front room where the bar is and the back room, where they were having some sort of bridal/baby shower. The kitchen was adjacent to us, so there was adequate waitstaff continuously passing by.  Despite the fact that other than the shower (that hadn't yet started...just a few girls there early for the party decorating and setting doodads up for the bride to be/expectant mother) the service was nothing to write home about.  The Maitre d' seemed way too concerned with the poor girls scotch taping things to the wall in the next room over for their party.  I should not have had to hear this ranting and raving when he could have asked them politely and professionally to please not hang anything o the walls...Instead he bitched and whined about it right in front of us, outside of the kitchen for a good 10 minutes or so, and then snottily (is that a word) and rudely asked that they remove everything, while he, himself started ripping things angrily off of the wall while muttering under his breath about the new paint job being ruined.  Exaggerate much?  It was scotch tape-not liquid nails.

He then proceeded to bring part of our table the incorrect order....with so few people here at this time, this seemed kind of ridiculous that the order was wrong.  We ate so that our food didn't get cold, while my Aunt politely sat waiting for her correct order.  When we all had our correct meals, they were tasty, but nothing extraordinary.

I would check it out one more time and give it another chance, perhaps for dinner when there weren't showers going on all around us, and we didn't have a maitr d' that was too wrapped up in a....sticky situation.

I come  here once a month with a guest or client for breakfast - love the mimosas and great service.

The food is nice and a good way to treat someone to a better than average breakfast instead of a diner.

I have been to Amanda's for brunch before, but that was many years ago.  My most recent trip to Amanda's was last week for dinner.  It just so happened that it was also Hudson Restaurant Week and they were offering a three-course fix prixe menu for $35.  We chose to order off the regular menu, but everything on both menus looked delicious.  I had a smoked trout and endive salad for an appetizer and fish stew for an entree.  Both were excellent!  The stew had an assortment of mussels, clams, shrimp, salmon and halibut.  The meal was truly wonderful!

Amanda is one of must visit restaurants in Hoboken.  The decoration is very classic and the service is always very present.  The recent visit is a casual dinner with good friends of ours during one of week night.  The wine selection is interesting: from Austria to South Africa.  (But not France)  The prefix menu is delicious but I can not by pass the Duck which is always the best.  Deserts are up to expectation..

We were here for a rehearsal dinner last Friday, which was probably ill-advised because they are a truly tiny spot and it just wasn't fitting 60 of us so well, but the food and atmosphere were awesome and I hope to go back for that Saturday night dinner soon. Even better was seeing how cute Hoboken is now. When did that happen?

BRUNCH:
It was good but forgettable. Nothing to drive out of your way for. The quaint decor and good service was commendable, but it really shouldn't outshine the food as it did.

I brought my wife here for her birthday and I've got to say I was very impressed.  The wine list was amazing, and we ended ordering a nice Cab.  We then ordered a couple of appetizers, both of which were excellent.  For our main course, I had a stuffed pork chop which was cooked to perfection and my wife ordered a Cod dish which was on special on also fantastic.

What was extra special was that the waitress brought us a complimentary piece of cheesecake for my wife's birthday and it was just because our waitress overheard me saying happy bday.  Very nice touch.

I would strongly recommend trying Amanda's.  I've also heard they have an amazing weekend brunch which I also plan to try.

Amandas does have the best deal in Hoboken for a great dinner - Prix FIxe of 28 bucks for a couple - 5 and 530 PM seatings. Even Saturdays.

The service is almost too  good - they have people whirling all over filling water, bringing out food. Its almost too much action.

The food is great, the Sweet Potato soup is so good we tried to make it at home, with some success.

Just a great place to take out of towners if youre trying to have a fine meal on the cheap, or for a cheap date.

Solid 4-starer.

Great lighting, the dining rooms are broken up so that its not too noisy, the cute mismatching but elegant plates are a nice touch.

All the food we got was excellent (polenta & honey-balsamic chicken) and the glass of prosecco was very generous.  We finished with the molten chocolate cake (as usual...) which was very good.

Only complaint - the service was very pleasant but suuuppeerr slow.  The food made up for it though.

And last - one of the cleanest, brightest bathrooms i've ever seen in a restaurant!!

I want to love Amanda's... I really do.  But for some reason I can't.  The food is good - but I can't say I've been wow'ed by the cuisine, though - and I expect that in a place like this.  A place where the decor is "old" but perfectly classic and the service is second to none.

And the service is great, by the way.  They really do treat you well and I've always had a great experience with the wait staff - going as far as ordering me a town car after diner.  They've been patient with me as a party of 2 or 6 and I've always been treated with respect.

I just can't get used to the rather common menu items and similarly common taste.

If you are looking to impress someone from the area, be completely taken care of, want to see the "rich and powerful" of Hoboken, and don't mind good (not great) food, I would say give Amanda's a try.  If you are looking for really great food, you might want to go elsewhere.

Every time I pass Amanda's I say to myself "I have to try this place" but it never goes further than that. I finally made reservations this past Saturday and I was definitely pleased. Ate in the Library which was small but in a cozy way.

For appetizer we ordered the Fig and Caramelized Onion Bruschetta with Blue Cheese and Red Wine Syrup. Loved this app, the blue cheese and figs hit the palette very nicely especially with the bottle of Pinot Noir that we ordered.

The entrees were both absolutely YUMMYLICIOUS!!

Pork Chop Stuffed with Apple, Pancetta and Dubliner Cheddar with Sweet Potato Mash and Brussels

Spicy Seafood Stew with Mussels, Clams, Shrimp and Fish in a Light Tomato Broth

Overall, great ambiance and definitely a good place to take a date. Service was very good. The water glasses never had a chance to get low, something greatly appreciated haven eaten at restaurants where you have to actually choke before they come to replenish.

Bill was about $110, pretty reasonable in my book for the quality of the food and service provided.

I have to go back for sure to try the Brunch which everyone seems to be raving about. I'll reserve my fifth star for then ;)

I definitely recommend this place!

What a great place for brunch. I compared it to Balthazaar since they carry their bread and the place had a similar feel. The brunch here was much much better than the disappointing brunch at Balthazar, not to mention cheaper. The atmosphere is similar, though I prefer this place. It's a bit homier and more interesting with many different small rooms decorated as if you're in someone's victorian home in another era.

The menu choices are unique: the "Croissant French Toast with Seasonal Fruit Compote" and "Roasted Sweet Pepper Omelette with Herbed Cream Cheese" were very tempting but I went for the "Poached Eggs with Crab Hash & Orange Hollandaise" and was very pleased. The price is about the same as brunch at The Gaslight, though I think the quality of food is slightly better here.

Edit: I went back recently and had the croissant french toast. It did not disappoint. Using croissants instead of regular bread gives it a buttery flavor all the way through and it was tender and yummy.

Amandas is my favorite restaurant in Hoboken, It may not be New York City, but the food is excellent and the feeling is of a bed and breakfast. It's a romantic restaurant with excellent service. I think the bar while small is qute beautiful.

It's also the place where I proposed to my wife. So it will always be special in our hearts.

Great for champagne brunch. The food is really great and I loved the atmosphere. I noticed that a few rooms had events in them and everyone seemed well attended to and very happy. Even with those huge parties going on our table was very very well taken care of. Great service, good food, nice atmosphere.

There's something about Amanda's you should know.

I realize that eating dinner before 6pm is typically reserved for those over 65, but if you eat a light lunch one day, head to Amanda's for the early bird (yes, I know how bad it sounds) prix fixe menu.  I'm not sure I can do it justice on Yelp, but I will try.

First thing's first:

All wines are $15/bottle during the early bird special.  That's cheap.

Here's the best part:

The prix fixe is a 3 course dinner, comprised of three wonderful courses (honestly, wonderful) and it's so cheap that you really shouldn't find reason to cook at home, because this place sort of feels like one anyway.

For two, it's $28.  For all of you that aren't so good at math, that's $14 each for three courses.

And to give you an idea of what they serve, check out the website, which I think is updated frequently.

So, you're hungry and you only have $50 but you want wine with dinner?  Go to Amanda's.  You'll be happy you did.

I will note that this isn't a trendy place -- it DOES feel like Grandma's house.  But how bad can that be??

Can I deduct a star just for location? =) Hoboken, NJ? C'mon! Alright, alright I won't. The food is too delicious.

Amanda's Restaurant is a quaint looking restaurant along the main street of Hoboken, NJ. It apparently is very well-known for it's brunch (which I have yet to try) but the dinner was quite impressive. The inside looks like tea time with grandma and has the feeling of a B&B. I liked that. Cosy. I'd definitely recommend it for a date in the 'boken. Service was great though the seats are just too close to each other.

We had the shrimp wrapped in phyllo as an appetizer and I enjoyed the turkey, bacon, duck roulade while my bf had the steak. The roulade was DELICIOUS. So rich. I think I heard an artery pop. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be on their menu anymore last time I checked. Give this place a spin.

I had a nice time at Amanda's. The decor is great and the service was decent. We like to eat late so we made the reservation at 9pm which they gladly accepted but towards the end of the night I felt rushed as we were the only clients left a little after 10pm. I mean you don't finish a $100 meal in half an hour. If they don't like to stay late, they should not accept a reservations at 9 is all I'm saying. The food was good, not spectacular, therefore I think it was a bit overpriced.

We went here for a late brunch. It was good for what it's worth. Nothing much going on. Small place and a simple menu but nothing that would make me anxious to come back for more. If you're in the area, it's an option. Then again, my vote will always be 5 Guys. :)

Excellent restaurant in Hoboken. I have been coming to this place for over 15 years and I always enjoy my time here. The most welcome addition is the new wine bar that was installed, complete with the Vinfinity system which preserves the wine perfectly, unlike other systems which use gas to blanket the wine, this uses a vacuum to remove the oxygen. What a difference that truly makes! The wines by the glass always taste fresh, and Eugene keeps the selection extremely interesting.

My girlfriend and I recently went there and had the mussels as an appetizer and what a dish. Simple ingredients, and that's what makes it shine. The broth is delicious, and we always ask for extra bread for dunking. I followed that with the pork chops and my girlfriend had the monkfish. Both done to perfection, the chops were moist and stuffed with a delicious cheddar/pancetta/apple mixture. The monkfish comes with this great sauce and the warm potato salad is a perfect accompaniment.

Service is spot on and the decor of the restaurant is pleasant and cozy. Definitely a must see in Hoboken.

This place has a reputation that it is one of the best retaurants in Hoboken, NJ. I would concur that this reputation is lived up to. Many people think it is expensive, but I was surprised that it isn't really all that expensive. The food is not crazily out-of-this-world good, but it is consistently good.

It is very busy, and reservations are definitely needed. Service is good and the wine list is excellent with some great buys for certain wines on their menu.

I was excited to go here as according to some this is the top rated restaurant in Hoboken. It is not however the best. It has all the trappings of a fine dining establishment and yet it doesn't work. Maybe it's the mish-mash of styles from faux Maxfield Parish to Art Nouvelle to faux Baroque. Or perhaps it's the battery powered flicker candle lights on the tables, but the over all impression is  "Dinner at Grandma's house."
You know those family dinners we all had to endure where everyone is trying really hard to be amiable, and not break anything, or be the one to cause scandal, so it all has a cozy quilted prison feeling that won't go away even after years of therapy. Yeah, you know what I mean, and that glass of wine you're reaching for isn't going to change a damn thing... but I digress.
The service while a tad pinched is excellent. And the food while not incredible is very good. I had the bacon wrapped monk fish and was blissfully engrossed (and is the only reason I'm giving three stars}. But I found our appetizers {the mussels and the goat cheese salad} rather dull. And we didn't feel inclined to stick around for dessert.
Over all not a bad place to take your Grandmother ... assuming she's dead.

I have been to Amanda's twice for brunch, and I love it.  From the outside it looks like any other restaurant, but step inside and be transported to an old world townhouse.  There is a small bar, various little rooms with windows looking out on either Washington St. or a backyard garden.  The food is very fresh and delicious.  I had an egg white omelet both times and was very happy with it.  I was even able to substitute a side salad for the roasted potatoes (which are delicious, but a foodie has to pick and choose her battles sometimes).  Downstairs are a lovely wine cellar and cozy party room complete with fireplace.  The atmosphere is quaint and the food is delicious.  I highly recommend it!

Amanda's is universally regarded as the finest restaurant in Hoboken. The charming colonial townhouse setting is enchanting and uber-romantic with seating divided among several dining rooms. The restaurant's winning trompe l'oeil décor and its menu full of tempting choices attracts the well-heeled young professionals who inhabit the neighborhood. They have what is possibly THE BEST deal in all of the Tri-State area, an early three course dinner for two for the total price of $28 ($14 per person). The kitchen is run by CIA trained Rodney Peterson. His irresistible dishes include sweet black mussels bathed in a lightly pungent garlic and white wine broth speckled with parsley; and creamy polenta punctuated with an herbed tomato sauce made rich with mascarpone, fontina and mozzarella cheeses. Salads are complex and artfully presented. The kitchen demonstrates a sure hand with fish, and it rightfully dominates the menu. The sauteed grouper with basmati rice is perfectly cooked. Game dishes, seasonally on the menu, offer rich flavors, as illustrated with the tender seared grilled venison. A sophisticated wine list is offered at reasonable prices. Desserts are something of an afterthought, but a good choice is Rodney's Cheesecake, light-bodied and just right. The apple-raisin strudel sends you to a cozy chalet in the Austrian Alps.

Unbelievable brunch on the weekends! We went here for a birthday brunch and it was delicious. They have  a nice little room you can rent for showers or parties. I would like to come back and try it for dinner some time. This would be the perfect place to take mom for mother's day brunch, but get a reservation, I have a feeling the mom's day reservations are all booked by April!

If you want a classic place for a romantic date, try this hidden gem. It isn't really hidden but surprisingly few people know about it and the food is wonderful. At times a little heavy on the salt but if you just ask them to go light on the salt it's done exactly the way you'd like it. The atmosphere is perfect for a winter or fall evening for drinks with friends at the bar. The bartender is friendly and cool. The waitstaff is courteous, considerate and pleasant. I've enjoyed the waitresses coming over to chat about a good wine or a tasty after dinner drink. Their recommendations are always on the spot. I love a place where the waitstaff eats the food. You have to wonder about a place that doesn't give their people an idea of what is being served. Save room for dessert because the dessert wine pairing is fantastic with their molten chocolate cake. Take your old friends or a date, it's a place that should not be missed if you stop by Hoboken for food. It's wonderful and you will enjoy the experience.

I'd like to give Amanda's credit for quality, but I had such a terrible experience there that I never went back. Two of us went for the early prix-fixe dinner ($20 at the time), and we were treated like bums. The place was almost empty but they sat us right by the kitchen door, brought tiny little dishes, hustled us through our meal and out the door. I believe I remember them sneering. We were poor students at the time but well dressed and in fact expecting to have a nice experience. I don't know why we got such contempt from them. If they didn't want to serve us at that price, they shouldn't have been offering it in the first place.
