20 reviews for Amanda's Fonda
After experiencing a night at Amanda's Fonda, I am a fan! Unfortunately, they don't take reservations. We tried. However, from what I had heard, it was going to be worth the wait. After about 30 minutes of hanging out on the patio, eating chips & salsa and drinking beers, we were seated out in the dining area of the patio.
The chips and salsa were tasty. We also split a pitcher of black & gold margaritas which were deliciously fruity and refreshing! Several people at our table ordered the mole enchiladas. I took a taste of the mole but wasn't impressed. I'm not a fan of mole anyway, but the mole lovers at my table said it was really good. I had the signature fish tacos. It was beer battered Pollock with cabbage and a creamy white sauce. They were fantastic! The cabbage salad that came with the dish was kind of bland though.
The service was good, the food was delicious & the atmosphere of the patio was awesome! Out of all of the dining experiences I've had in Manitou, this one is the best!
It sounds like this place can get crowded for dinner, but for lunch Amanda's Fonda was awesome! My friend and I got there at about 12:30, and we were seated immediately, got drinks immediately and had our order taken within 5 minutes of walking through the door. Our food came so quick that we barely had the time to enjoy the chips and salsa that had been brought to our table...nice good chunky salsa with a bit of heat to it. I got the spinach and mushroom enchiladas with an awesome cream sauce, and my friend enjoyed her chicken enchiladas with the red sauce. I'm looking forward to going back and trying something with the seafood, and definitely a getting a margarita. The building is cute as well, and the patio looks like it could be nice, although given how busy Colorado Ave is, it could be a bit loud. All in all, Amanda's Fonda is worth a trip!
I've been here several times. Have had good and bad experiences. But I must say: The staff doesn't know how to appease customers. They don't accept reservations, and I had a group of 6 ladies going there the other night. I showed up early to put my name on the list. they said 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, i checked up. at an hour, a woman came to seat me. i said "We had a 7th show up. can we just pull up another chair?" and she said, "No, I'll lose my job if i do that." I looked at her like, haha, you're kidding. But no, she was serious. we had to take two tables and have separate servers.
The guacamole had NO flavor. the food was good, but the staff wasn't very friendly.
Definitely one of the best mexican restaurants I've been to in Colorado Springs. Very authentic and tasty. Reminded me of restaurants back in Southern California.
The chips and salsa are fantastic. I could get full on them alone.
I had the seafood enchilada, it was delicious. Came with beans and rice for a full meal.
I definitely want to go back when it's a little warmer out so that I can sit on outside. They have a great patio that wraps around the back next to a little river.
Good, but nothing particularly special; certainly not special enough to stand in line waiting. There are a million Mexican restaurants and half of those can martch this one regarding quality of food. When the pasking lot is full and the wait is intolerable, head west into Manitou to the Mission Bell for a most pleasant setting with marvelous food...and avoid the hassles of Amanda's Fonda.
Went here on a Sunday afternoon and sat out on the back patio.
I tried their appetizer sampler platter and was pretty impressed.
The chips and salsa that come with the meal were good as well.
I liked the atmosphere as well, the waitress was very friendly but didn't linger or hover and ordered items arrived promptly.
I'll go back. (Note: if you've never noticed it before it can be a little difficult to find heading West on Colorado Ave. There seemed to be PLENTY of parking though.)
I'll be back!
We got to the restaurant at prime dinner time (about 6:15 on a Friday night) and were told a 30 minute wait. I don't know how long the wait actually was, when I'm hungry it seems like forever. I think we were seated faster than that though.
Salsa and really good, thin chips appeared as soon as we were seated. Unfortunately the salsa tasted like it had been cooked, which isn't the style of salsa I like. It had some sort of seasoning to it, it wasn't just veggies which is what I prefer. It almost seemed like jarred salsa with fresh cilantro added to it. The chips were awesome though, nice and superthin and warm (not salted).
I ordered a fajita burrito. There was a lot going on flavorwise-too much for me, actually. The fajita part of the burrito (the beef, onion and peppers) was AMAZING. So amazing I deeply regretted getting the burrito, as the green sauce and melted cheese interfered with the gorgeous flavor of the fajitas. It (fajitas) almost tasted like Korean bulgogi, actually, which I love. On the not-so-great side-the plate arrived with a big pool of grease on one end of the burrito, and the guacamole, sour cream and cabbage salad were warmer than I would have liked. I'm sure that's because they were served directly on the hot plate. I think that if they had served them on the side on a separate plate or in little serving bowls or something they'd stay cooler.
All in all I was disappointed at how awesome the food COULD have been if I'd ordered the fajitas alone instead of as a burrito. That's what gluttony will do for you I guess.
The service was nice and unobtrusive. We didn't want for anything and our drinks stayed refilled.
I think we may try again when it warms up so we can try the patio next time; everyone I talk to (and apparently everyone who has yelped it already) raves about it.
It was surprisingly inexpensive for the amount of food we got-2 huge plates, chips and salsa and 2 drinks for less than $25. It's definitely a good value for your money.
Okay. This place is the real deal. I have had Mexcian food for as long as I can remember eating, and have had some outstanding meals in my time. Restaurants in the central valley of California; San Diego; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Yuma & Tuscon, Arizona and El Paso, Texas.
But Amanda's is right up there with the best of them. The location is sublime - right along a small creek. You have to sit outside if you can!
The chips and salsa are sublime. They aren't just good, they're about the best I've had. They are death row-last meal- request good if you know what I mean.
I had chili colorado and it was top notch. Tasty pork and lots of green chilis.
I didn't have a Margarita, but I'll take their word for it that they are awesome.
If you are in Colorado Springs (it's actually closer to Manitou Springs) and want Mexican food, then this is where you go. You don't go somewhere else.
You go to Amanda's.
Don't let the name fool ya!
Amanda's Fonda has delicious Mexican food.
Try the steak tacos, tortilla soup and a horni margarita and was in heaven!
Best Guaq in town. They have never screwed up a meal and I've loved everyone of them. If it's warm sit outside. One of the best patios in the city.
I'm from southern California and the only thing I miss more than the beach are the fish tacos. The fish tacos at Amanda's Fonda are not exactly what they should be (they're still the fried version, I prefer the traditional grilled) but they are very good. The salsa was delicious and (for someone who hates tequila) my margarita disappeared fast.
Great restaurant! I would love to meet with you.
I love Amanda's Fonda, they have great, delicious, authentic Mexican and the best margaritas in Colorado Springs. Chicken enchiladas de mole are awesome, everything is delicious!
I've been all over the U.S. on a quest for good mexican food, and let me tell you, Amanda's is as good as it gets. It is authentic mexican, not tex-mex. The salsa is unbelievable! I had a bit of a wait to get a table for 6, the kids got a little cranky waiting but the food was worth the wait. The wait staff was attentive and overall, the experience was great. Amanda's is my new go-to mexican eatery.
Easily the best "traditional" Mexican food in Colorado Springs. I've been going to Amandas for the last 10 years and have never had a bad meal there. The chips and salsa are fresh, and flavorful, the margaritas are superb, and the main courses are all of the above - and in ample quantity. My favorite dish - Arroz Con Pollo. Amazing. Get there early during the summer since it can get crowded.
Ok so i looked up some places to take the fam while visiting Colorado. Amanda's got ok reviews on yelp and some really good reviews elsewhere (that does NOT make me a traitor since yelp only had 3 reviews, i had to diversify!).
The place is kinda small, very quaint, definitely decorated with anything Mexican or Spanish that they could find.
While ordering, my mom asked what her plate came with and was told "Every dinner plate comes with cabbage salad." That was a new one for her so she asked what it was and the waitress replied "Kinda like cole slaw" so we weren't expecting much. BOY were we wrong! The cabbage salad was fresh, crunchy and delicious. I almost wanted to ask for the recipe.
Our plates weren't the Tex-Mex we were used to, but everyone was pleased with the quality and quantity of food. My sister didn't like the sauce on her beef burrito but they took it away and brought her a new one with the salsa verde.
They lost one star for not having queso. I love me some queso!
Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in Colorado Springs. I've liked just about everything I've ever had there. Probably eaten there about ten times total. Try the Mole ... wow.
Previously hailed as best of the Springs for Mexican food, I took my girlfriend here as a treat. She's from Denver so I wanted her to sample our best. Sadly, the place has changed. Maybe I just caught them at a bad time, but I call it like I see it. I got a combo chicken tostada/Cheese enchilada with red sauce. I got green, and the lettuce on my plate had so much water, it made everything soggy. I asked for a side of red, put 5 napkins in my plate to soak up the water, and cut my losses. I'm haven't given up on them, but if my next time is as bad, I'll have to take my pesos elsewhere.
I have been to this beautiful Eatery during the fall, and this was outside dining. And then again in the winter. It has a wonderful atmosphere, even while waiting for a table the people are kind. The food is fabulous and I truly enjoyed the ambiance. My guests and I were treated very well, and spoken to many times, and longer than to just take the order or ask for refills. This place is absolutely a must, especially when the outside dining is open and the creek is quietly rushing by with the lamp torches lit in the evening. BRAVO!
Pretty good mexican food considering it's in Colorado. My fiancee and I liked the salsa that came with the chips, and the margaritas were pretty good too. I had a good burrito and my fiancee had some kind of fish that was good too. The food wasn't spicy, but what it lacked in spiciness was made up for with flavor and freshness. Bottom line, it's not Tex-Mex, but it's worth coming back to.
