Sounds like the restaurant is hit-or-miss based on the reviews, but my experience was a homerun.

Mole with chicken - I haven't had this since I left Los Angeles and it wasn't the best ever, but it was definitely tasty and the leftovers I took home reheated nicely for seconds.

Chips and salsa - yup, good chips and salsa, and refilled in a timely manner.

Seafood enchiladas - my friend had these and she pretty much licked her plate clean, so I take that as a good sign.

Dessert - yes, please!  Ok, fried ice cream and cinnamon-sugar chips, seriously, you can't go wrong with this combination.  Perfect size for sharing and a sweet ending to a savory meal.

Service - our waitress and busboys were friendly and efficient.  It was a bit crowded, but we weren't neglected.

It was ok. The food was lovely and came quick. Shared a half order of the nachos and split the kitchen sink burrito... again, the food was fine. The waiter came by a couple of times in the beginning but then as soon as the lunch rush started he was no where to be found. We sat there for about 20 minutes waiting for anyone to come into the main dining room. Nope, no one.

The front door kept beeping to let the staff know they had more customers arriving yet no one would come out to seat them. My sister finally got pissed enough she got up from the table and walked to the edge of the kitchen and yelled for someone to come out to the dining room. By then there was a que of people waiting to be seated. I was pissed in the cold slow way, the kind where your tip is in danger. Don't worry, we tipped as i know full well that is how these peope make thier money but I will never go back there again and nor would I give it a full throated support.

Wow, rarely is Yelp so off the mark.

I'm from out of town but am back in the Springs twice a year to visit my parents.  I always make it point to try new restaurants when in town and I must say I was pretty excited for what I had read (especially on the front of their very own menu where they list every single restaurant award they have won since 1893) is the best Mexican in town.

I arrived on a Wednesday to find the restaurant completely full.  Tellingly, there wasn't a single Mexican in sight, either working or eating at the restaurant.  That's fine I thought - plenty of the chainy Mexican restaurants are the same and their food is good.

I ordered the arroz con pollo and could not have been more disappointed.  Sure, the portion was generous but after the first three bites I was bored.  The flavors were bland, the accompaniments were flavorless and the corn tortillas were served in wrapped aluminum foil (instead of a tortilla case).  Ok maybe that last point is a bit picky but seriously the food was incredibly unremarkable.  The chips were pretty good but hey who doesn't have good chips?

Service was prompt and friendly, but who cares if the food isn't there.

When I got home that day I checked with my parents (who live here) and sure enough my Dad says "Oh yeah that restaurant is horrible.  Why did you go!?"

If only the rest of Colorado Springs woke up and realized this.

So far the best Mexican restaurant I've discovered in C.S. Been there three times and love the fish tacos. Only problem is the last time I went we got a real knucklehead for a waiter that made lame "jokes" like "We out of fish. (ten second pause) I kidding" Barely spoke English and needed some charm school.

Because my wimpy dad didn't want to sit outside on the heated patio, we were put in the tiny front room which is right between the front door and the kitchen. It's like dining in a noisy closet. Warning: don't dine in the front room. Outside or the room near the bar.

As far as authenticity, no it can't compare to real Mexican food or even Santa Fe or Los Angeles Mexican restaurants. But since we are in Colorado, it's not bad.

Seriously Colorado Springers?!  This is your Yelp top-rated Mexican eatery? Come on... the food at Amanda's is as bland as the stretch of highway on which it lives. The atmosphere is hokey, unclean and superficial.

What's with the faux-tos of latino celebrities affixed to the walls... so nacho cheeseball kitschy - haha! Sad. It'd be SOMETHING if these people actually visited the place, but that's as unlikely to happen as this place is to give me a refund for the lame food I wasted money on.

However, I will agree with those of you who say they have polite staff here. Our waitress Jacquie rocked! Poor her though, not much hope in making a living serving slop!

I imagine Amanda is rolling over in her grave not feeling so 'fonda-ly' right now with what's happening at her creekside cabin. In fact, is it her I hear asking, "Who's watching the food quality?" and "Who's tasted what's been prepared before it's served?" Maybe that was not Amanda, I heard but I am sure those same questions will echo in your mind if your crazy enough to eat here. No one's watching these things because the output is pathetic and it's a sorry excuse for dining out. TV dinners are more entertaining and palatable.

The food is flavorless right down to the refried beans. And big portions do not make up for lack of palette pleasing profiles. We had the nachos, chicken fajitas, enchiladas - with both the chile colorado and verde (adding the $ upcharge $ for this feature) - and tacos. Oh, and the chips and salsa - who was is that said these were good?!? They're just ok. But the rest of the food is not worth the special trip made to see what Colorado Springs Yelpers had been glorifying.

The nachos come with canned olives and packaged guac. Salsa with canned chiles, and the chips have that fresh out-of-the-bag taste. Taco Bell may be a better choice, and I am not joking. At least Taco Bell is less expensive and uses the same canned ingredients. Amanda's place is overpriced and noisy to boot.

By the way, a pungent sewer smell wafted it's way through the dining area during our dinner tonight seriously souring our experience even further. Disappointing, to say the least... er, most!

I have been in Colorado for almost 3 yrs and stumbled on this place while spending the day in Manatou Springs. Some flags caught my eye on the way out of town and we went in.
Glad we did! I have been searching for some good Mexican food since moving from California and after trying place after place I had finally given up hope on finding any in this state.
The food here wasn't EXACTLY Ca Mexican, but it was darn close. The service was excellent and the prices were good. This is going to be a go to place for me whenever I get down to the Springs.

First of all, if you are considering coming to eat here at a peak meal time, forget it. Parking is practically impossible!

I've only eaten here once, so I can't be too hard on the place but I must say that it was not as great as everyone made it out to be! The food was nothing special (I got the chicken enchiladas) and the service was horrible! Well, at least our waitress was horrible!

Honestly, I think there are much better options out there for mexican food, so I probably won't be going back any time soon.

We'd been wanting to try Amanda's for quite some time; but, somehow always were in the area at the wrong time of day.  This week, we specifically built a shopping trip around lunch at Amanda's.  It was very good.  The place is quaint, the servers were friendly and the food was good.  Son-in-law thought it was better than others he had tried in the area....wife and daughter thought others were better.  Still, it has a nice selection and is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area....especially during summer weather, when you can sit outside on the patio!

YUM! My favorite Mexican restaurant in Colorado. I recently moved to Denver and cannot find anything that compares. Amanda's Fonda has the best chips & salsa, awesome guac, love the horni margarita (in a pitcher!), fantastic carne asada, love the Chile Colorado and Chile Verde (I get half & half), excellent tacos - Mmm, my mouth is watering just writing this review. It's all SO good. Please open a location in Denver!! This is the best Mexican food around.

The sign out front reads Serious Mexican Food and Awesome Margaritas. That's all I needed to entice me to give this place a try.

Walking in, I had an expectation that this place would be decent. It's very quaint with its hewn-wood furniture, (plastic-covered) serapes covering the tables and lots of art work on the walls.

We were seated right away at a table near the front and chips, salsa and water were on the table lickety split. The salsa was thin with finely chopped tomato, onion and cilantro and the chips were thin, crispy and appeared to be freshly made. We were off to a good start!

Unfortunately, our good start didn't materialize into a good dining experience. I ordered the carnitas plate which came with rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and cabbage salad. For some reason, this cabbage salad is touted several places on the menu. While the carnitas was very moist and tender, it had absolutely no flavor! The beans, rice and cabbage salad were also sans flavor and very disappointing. The best comment my mom could muster about her chile relleno was that the chile wasn't mushy.

If by "serious Mexican food" they meant "seriously boring," their advertising out front is spot on. I didn't opt for an "awesome" margarita, so I can't comment on that.

Oh, Amanda's Fonda, how do I love thee. I've been looking for my Mexican restaurant since I moved to Colorado, and this is it, friends.

Kind of a hike from where I live in the land of strip malls (Stetson Hills), but oh so worth it.

Chips and salsa: delightful. Perfect amounts of cilantro, non-pizza tomato sauce, and heat. Great, warm chips, too.

Decent beer selection. You have your choice of the standard Mexican restaurant fare: Tecata, Negra Modelo, Pacifico, Dos Equis. I'm happy.

Environment: warm, smells like a wood-burning fireplace, and there are tons of Latino celebrities on the walls. Odd, going into the woman's bathroom and being greeted by shirtless Mario Lopez, etc.

Food: Yeah, it's good. I got the chile relleno, which is a REAL chile, by the way, and a tostada. More food than I could possibly eat. But I did. My dining partner had the steak tacos and they were delicious, as well.

Reasonable prices, awesome food, great atmosphere, what more can you ask for?

After experiencing a night at Amanda's Fonda, I am a fan!  Unfortunately, they don't take reservations.  We tried.  However, from what I had heard, it was going to be worth the wait.  After about 30 minutes of hanging out on the patio, eating chips & salsa and drinking beers, we were seated out in the dining area of the patio.

The chips and salsa were tasty.  We also split a pitcher of black & gold margaritas which were deliciously fruity and refreshing!  Several people at our table ordered the mole enchiladas.  I took a taste of the mole but wasn't impressed.  I'm not a fan of mole anyway, but the mole lovers at my table said it was really good.  I had the signature fish tacos.  It was beer battered Pollock with cabbage and a creamy white sauce.  They were fantastic!  The cabbage salad that came with the dish was kind of bland though.

The service was good, the food was delicious & the atmosphere of the patio was awesome!  Out of all of the dining experiences I've had in Manitou, this one is the best!

    Ho yeah!

This is a killer big-plate Mexican restaurant with excellent booze, generous and delicious portions, and really amazingly epic restaurant ads.

I did go in expecting a wait since there seem to be many reviews here who echoed the same warning. We got there at 7 on a Saturday and the hostess said it would be a 30 minute wait. Off we went to the bar to buy a pitcher of Tarantula which had lots of blue curacao. YUM. We also got some chips and salsa and yowza! Damn good salsa! And HOT! I am a spice wuss and only had a few bites but, divorcing myself from my intolerance, the flavor was exceptional. Fresh ingredients with a strong garlic kick and a little chipotle smoke. Yes please. I got to eat vicariously through my husband who bulldozed through the bowl.

My only big complaint: Our 30 minute wait was actually 60 minutes. I have a feeling a lot of this has to do with the copious amounts of alcohol consumption. (I found out that it's actually fun to take your kids out to dinner if you get wasted, apparently.)

The food was worth the wait but I was starving and we were well into that pitcher by the time we were shown to a table. The food was pretty darn good though: I had a enchilada with beef and red sauce and some of the cabbage salad. The enchilada was very tasty, the beef was well seasoned and nice and lean. My husband got chicken enchiladas with mole and was impressed. The mole had a very nice rich flavor, not the absolute best I've ever had but still very good. The cabbage salad was like a slaw which was nice and cooling although... celery? Really? Hmm.

One thing worth noting is that the ads in the bathrooms are fantastic, as are the photos of "hot people" around the sinks. I don't quite understand it but you can only see so many maize farmer motifs. The Latin Firefighters poster in the Ladies room was particularly amusing.

Whenever I make it back to the Springs I'll be going again, but definitely earlier in the evening and hopefully late enough in the year for the patio to be open.

The place kind of looks like mountain cabin meets Mexico.

To me this is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in town. The food is good and the servings are big. I always have to share a plate and there is still leftovers. Usually get the beef shredded chimichanga with sour cream and guacamole on top. I like the rice and cabbage salad that comes with it.  The chips and salsa are outstanding. Most times they are served warm. The fresh brewed iced tea needs help. I don't know what tea they use but it's just blah and not that good of flavor. If you have room for desert they have the tastiest churros. YUM

Service is friendly enough but not anything special. However once I got  a young guy that was cracking jokes and he had me laughing.

Creekside dining is great. If only they could totally block out the traffic noise on Colorado.

For years this has been my fav place to go for mexican food in the Springs.

Definitely one of the best mexican restaurants I've been to in Colorado Springs. Very authentic and tasty. Reminded me of restaurants back in Southern California.

The chips and salsa are fantastic. I could get full on them alone.

I had the seafood enchilada, it was delicious. Came with beans and rice for a full meal.

I definitely want to go back when it's a little warmer out so that I can sit on outside. They have a great patio that wraps around the back next to a little river.

I've been here several times. Have had good and bad experiences. But I must say: The staff doesn't know how to appease customers. They don't accept reservations, and I had a group of 6 ladies going there the other night. I showed up early to put my name on the list. they said 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, i checked up. at an hour, a woman came to seat me. i said "We had a 7th show up. can we just pull up another chair?" and she said, "No, I'll lose my job if i do that." I looked at her like, haha, you're kidding. But no, she was serious. we had to take two tables and have separate servers.
The guacamole had NO flavor. the food was good, but the staff wasn't very friendly.

While apartment hunting before our move in the Colorado Springs area we stumbled across Amandas Fonda after a quick Google search for something to eat. I think we got lucky!

Amanda's Fonda ("Inn" in Spanish) is a small Mexican food restaurant and bar, serving more traditional food, large mixed drinks and a whole fridge full of Mexican beers. Though we weren't there while the deck was open, the seating probably doubles once the warmer weather arrives.

When we got to Amanda's Fonda, we were politely greeted at the door by a smiling hostess, and after taking our name, shown where the bar is for some drinks while we waited. We had heard about the Fonda and it's long waits, but after about 20 minutes of margaritas and chips and salsa we were taken to our table.

The interior is decorated really fun, even down to the staff attire. Each table is situated for the most privacy, which is nice since the place is so small.

The food was great! Probably the most traditional of Mexican foods I have ever had. The drinks were also very good. Our Margaritas we had before dinner were very large, and the bartender even asked if we wanted salt or not. (I hate salt)

Over all we were very impressed, and both mentioned that we had just found a favorite place to eat and drink. We will definitely be back once we finish our move to the area!

I tried their appetizer sampler platter and was pretty impressed.

The chips and salsa that come with the meal were good as well.

I liked the atmosphere as well, the waitress was very friendly but didn't linger or hover and ordered items arrived promptly.

I'll go back. (Note: if you've never noticed it before it can be a little difficult to find heading West on Colorado Ave. There seemed to be PLENTY of parking though.)

Friends and I came here after coming off of Pikes Peak for the Hill Climb Race, we were desperately searching for some local fare that was open.  I called at 8:52PM and was informed they were open till 9:30, we were there 5 minutes later and they tried to turn us away as closed until I explained we had JUST spoken with them and they said they were open, apparently they changed their hours to close at 9 but whoever answered the phone was unaware.

After some pleading they seated us as their last table. The experience was great after that, service was prompt and friendly, margaritas were good and the salsa is very well made and tasty.  I had the mole enchiladas and they were very good.  I'd reccomend this establishment to anyone looking for some mexican fare in Colorado Springs, the food isn't out of this world but its above average and satisfying and on par with most mexican places.

Okay.  This place is the real deal.  I have had Mexcian food for as long as I can remember eating, and have had some outstanding meals in my time.  Restaurants in the central valley of California; San Diego; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Yuma & Tuscon, Arizona and El Paso, Texas.

But Amanda's is right up there with the best of them.  The location is sublime - right along a small creek.  You have to sit outside if you can!

The chips and salsa are sublime.  They aren't just good, they're about the best I've had.  They are death row-last meal- request good if you know what I mean.

I had chili colorado and it was top notch.  Tasty pork and lots of green chilis.

I didn't have a Margarita, but I'll take their word for it that they are awesome.

If you are in Colorado Springs (it's actually closer to Manitou Springs) and want Mexican food, then this is where you go.  You don't go somewhere else.

    You go to Amanda's.

Amanda's Fonda is good food and great atmosphere. They have some things that you don't generally see on a Mexican food restaurant, which was a nice change.

We sat on the patio and it was amazing. The river runs right behind there, adding that kind of natural juke box of sounds. It's covered so you're not terribly over exposed to the elements, but you still have the feeling of eating al fresco.

All in all, a great meal. I'd definitely go back.

    Cheap mediocre Tex-Mex
Ambiance: Your typical touristy decor with tables inside and out. Mostly a bunch of families and groups looking for a cheap meal. Pretty loud and very packed. They don't take reservations so the wait can be a bit hit or miss. The parking lot is tiny so you should probably put your name down on the wait list then spend your half hour wait time looking for a park.
Cleanliness: Bad. All the menus and the tables were dirty and sticky. The bar was even worse.
Service: Not so good. The waiters didn't speak good English so we didn't get any answers to questions and two orders were not as we had requested. We had two waiters who kept asking the sane questions and confusing the orders between them.
Drinks: Average margaritas that are all pre-prepared and the non-citrus ones simply had artificial flavors dumped in with tequila. Service at the bar was very slow and aloof. They couldn't do crushed ice or frozen drinks.
Food: Very average. Everything was basically the same. Meat and a taco/tortilla with beans/rice/salsa all slopped together on a plate. Very high in salt and far from subtle in flavor. On the other hand some people might appreciate the fact that the servings are huge and you'll probably consider it great value given you could easily take it home for a second meal. That's if you liked the food in the first place, of course. The deserts were better and the flan was actually quite good.
Bottom line - I'm not likely to go back any time soon.

Amanda's Fonda has a "unique" name, but don't let that fool you.  This is by far my favorite Mexican in Colorado Springs.  It is a log cabin looking building right in between Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs.  While the interior is average (not bad, just nothing special), the outer patio overlooking a mountain creek is awesome!  Plan on a wait if you're there during prime times, as this place is a local favorite.

If you can, take it easy on the all-you-can-eat homemade chips & salsa, because the portions are huge.  My favorite is their beef and bean burrito smothered in green chili with beans & rice on the side.  I don't think I've ever finished off a whole meal!

I had a fair meal. I mean the food was decent Mexican, but the service was very poor. They forgot about us and didn't really. With all the Mexican restaurants in Colorado I would try a different one.

Ambiance: This place is over-the-top with all the kitsch Mexican decor. A complete explosion of color! Normally, this all would be pretty tacky, but it kind of works here. An old converted house, with three dining areas as well as a bar. Nice Mexican-style pine tables. Awesome patio area that overlooks a meandering creek in the back. During cooler nights, there are heaters on the patio to keep your warm.

Service: Very standard, and nothing special. Though not rude, the waitresses here are very matter-of-fact, and do nothing to make you feel special or show that they really enjoy their job of waiting on customers and serving food.

Food: OK, I have to say this place is just "ok". I do not understand all the love shown this place (many reviewers of this restaurant seem rather young, and my guess have not sampled many REAL Mexican restaurants in places like Central and Southern California, New Mexico, let alone Mexico itself.) This place is absolutely Americanized Mexican, and not the real deal, which is ok, but the food is simply adequate and not worthy of all the praise shown here. The chips are thin, crispy and not greasy, which is good. The salsa though flavor-able, lacks much needed heat (if I can scoop a heap of salsa on a chip like ketschup and not need to reach for the water glass, then the salsa is definitely too mild!). Rice and beans that come with your entree are very standard, and of the same quality you would find in most run-of-the-mill Mexican joints. The tamales are so-so, and the Mole sauce served with their enchiladas was not very good. I do enjoy their shredded beef tacos (pay the extra $1 for a huge soft flour tortilla, better than their greasy hard taco shells). Chile Verde is decent. Nachos are standard.

I have no problem eating here, and overall it is "ok", but there are better Mexican restaurants in Colorado Springs. If this place was in Albuquerque or East Los Angeles, it would not even be worth mentioning in their sea of real good, authentic Mexican places. But I guess for Colorado Springs, it merits a slightly better than average review from this discerning Mexican food-goer.

Ok so i looked up some places to take the fam while visiting Colorado. Amanda's got ok reviews on yelp and some really good reviews elsewhere (that does NOT make me a traitor since yelp only had 3 reviews, i had to diversify!).
The place is kinda small, very quaint, definitely decorated with anything Mexican or Spanish that they could find.
While ordering, my mom asked what her plate came with and was told "Every dinner plate comes with cabbage salad." That was a new one for her so she asked what it was and the waitress replied "Kinda like cole slaw" so we weren't expecting much. BOY were we wrong! The cabbage salad was fresh, crunchy and delicious. I almost wanted to ask for the recipe.
Our plates weren't the Tex-Mex we were used to, but everyone was pleased with the quality and quantity of food. My sister didn't like the sauce on her beef burrito but they took it away and brought her a new one with the salsa verde.
They lost one star for not having queso. I love me some queso!

Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant in Colorado Springs.  I've liked just about everything I've ever had there.  Probably eaten there about ten times total.  Try the Mole ... wow.
