Ordered a cake from Amanda Oatleaf Cakes for a wedding reception party. They do an exceptional job here designing cakes, they can pretty much do any kind of design you want. In their store I saw a cake in the shape of a couch with an edible character sitting on it and another was in the shape of a storm trooper helmet. We went for the more traditional cake, but it is good to know they are true artists here.

We also did a cake tasting in the form of cupcakes so we could decide which flavor combinations we liked best. Our cake consultant was really helpful. It was a tough call between their plain cake and the red velvet. We ended up choosing their red velvet with a strawberry buttercream frosting. Can't wait to see how it all comes out.

Thank you Yelp for introducing me to Amanda Oakleaf cheesecake.

I am always looking for great cheesecake and I just loved it when it melted in my mouth.

There are a variety of flavors so for the holidays I decided to pick up a few of each flavor since they are available as cupcakes too.

I should have ordered ahead as I would have preferred the regular NY style.  The gingerbread and the red velvet were the best.  I am not a fan of orange so I didn't like it but I got one for all of us to try.

I would recommend taking them out of the frig about 30 mins or so ahead and bring it to room temp so the cake becomes softer.

I was able to get one free (baker's dozen) and 1 free on the spot for Yelp check in.

There were some very cool looking demo cakes and I am looking forward to placing a future order for that just right special occasion.

Our company had a big client meeting where we wanted a custom cake that replicated a house on a well manicured lawn with our client's logo mowed into the lawn.  When the cake was delivered, it completely blew us away how clean and professional it looked, and went WAY beyond our expectations.  From the original call, with logos and sketches, Amanda and team whipped this cake up in record time with design flair and excitement that was not found when calling other top cake vendors in Boston.  BRAVO!

We love Amanda Oakleaf cupcakes! We had lemon, pumpkin, and chocolate-raspberry cupcakes for our wedding in October, and people loved them. I've been to Kick*ass (eh), Sweet (double eh), and Chocolate Tarte (yum). Amanda Oakleaf was definitely the best for our wedding!

I'm a big fan of the meringue buttercream since it's not too sweet. I just wish they were closer to Cambridge/Somerville so I could buy them as treats for my friends.

Finally I got around to trying out some cupcakes from Amanda Oakleaf Cakes here in little ol'Winthrop.

The prices were very decent, I believe $2-3.50 per cupcake which I wasn't expecting. I have been places where it was $5 per cupcake and not really worth it, but so far these ones are.

I've only had the carrot cake cupcake, and I would like to say that this cake was very moist. I have had WAY too many dry cupcakes in my day, but this one was not. The only thing missing was cream cheese frosting, but it could be that sometimes cream cheese is not easy to work with so I will let it slide.

I have 5 more cupcakes waiting and will let you know my thoughts on them...yummmm!

My husband (I need to get used to saying that, LOL) loves those cake shows. I've been forced to watch them since the day we met. When the time came for our wedding,  I wanted to do something cool for our special day, even though frankly, I'm kind of traditionalist when it comes to wedding cake. Yet, assuming I only get one shot at this and knowing my beloved's love for competitive food stuffs, I decided to go with it. Sure, this meant forking over some extra cash but I have to say, it was well worth it in the end.

Let's start with the creativity. I was floored when I snuck downstairs to look at our cake from our out-of-sight waiting area. That team has serious talent. We got married on the beach, Amanda had some great suggestions that worked with our theme. Our invitations had two hearts in the sand. Our cake had two hearts drawn in buttercream with graham cracker sand (which really added a neat flavor element on top of the buttercream). Two figurines to match the grooms and a really great replica of Graves Light (they nailed the color on that). And marshmallow fondant sea shells that were beautifully detailed. My guests were pretty blown away.

But the cake itself is important and I've read some reviews on here complaining that the cake tends to be dry. I'll admit -- I had my doubts at the tasting. Yes -- I got dry cupcakes in the tasting. But I also know that people tend to expect really moist cakes because they are used to the chemically-enhanced box cake mixes a la Duncan Hines. That said also, cupcakes are tough anyway. Throw in their size and just a bit of air-conditioning and you can kiss moisture goodbye ten minutes after you pull them from the oven.

As for the big cakes, they are still homemade, so adjust your expectations beyond the squishy Betty Crocker stuff. Homemade cake is a bit denser and a bit dryer. That said, let me put you at ease here:

I got two layers (well, 3 really): a big double layer of red-velvet and a smaller layer of lemon. The red velvet was moist, the lemon was super-moist. Which did I like better? Let me eat some more leftovers and get back to you on that.

Seriously, I have to admit, Amanda Oakleaf makes a mean lemon cake. And the buttercream frosting was on point and complimented the lemony flavor well. If I could have a do-over, I would have flipped it to do lemon on the bottom and red velvet on the top.

All said, I'm hopeful that I have an event special enough in the future (maybe my 40th birthday?) to warrant getting another creative cake from these folks.

Today the cakes were a tad on the dry side, with the exception of the carrot cake. I had the strawberry lemonade cake, this month's special, and I was pleasantly surprised. Citrus + sweet fruit = home run.

The cakes in their window defy the laws of gravity and artistic vision. Whenever I get hitched, I'll certainly be giving them a ring.

I attended the wedding of a friend who is a performer with the Boston Circus Guild; her cake, therefore, needed a crazy-creative spark. Their request? A cake that would match both the bride AND the groom! I was in awe of this tall cake that was half the bride's dress, and half a bass (the groom is a bass player).

After marveling at this cake-artistry, I really enjoyed the cake itself! Rich, tasty carrot cake with a creamy cinnamon frosting. The bass side of the cake was lemon cake with raspberry frosting. Both sides of the cake were DELICIOUS.

These people really love their cake. Amazing talent! Highly recommend for anyone needing a crazy, fantastic, tasty cake! :D

Popped in because I'd told my two-year-old that we'd visit the library, only to find the library closes earlier on Saturday afternoons in summer.  Oops.  To soothe the little guy, we went home via Amanda Oakleaf and I got him a cupcake.

Concerned about the inevitable smearing of frosting all over the stroller and child, I asked for an unfrosted strawberry lemonade cupcake, which would make it just a strawberry cupcake.  I was pleased they had unfrosted ones in the back of the store.  This minimized mess, but it did still cost $2.50, which is pricey for a plain little cake, but I suppose they don't have separate pricing for the un-iced.

On the up-side, the cake guy behind the counter was very quick to open and hold the door for me as I struggled in and out with a toddler, a stroller and a baby.

I spied a French Toast flavor cupcakes in the display.  I stiffened my back, girded my loins, gathered my will and walked out without one.  But oh!  How I still desire it!  They had a little pool of maple syrup each in the frosting.  If I ever see them again, I shall not forsake them.  French Toast Cupcakes, you are mine.

So, I Yelped out some bakeries the other day looking to get a cake for my mother's birthday and stumbled upon Amanda Oakleaf Cakes. While they offered a few cakes to stop in and pick up, what really caught my eye were the cupcakes and I'll admit, the website was also pretty cool too. They take cake seriously.

While I was in the area, I decided to stop in and see what they had to offer. The shop, is a quaint little store front offering the items that they advertise to the T. NOTE*  This isn't a sit-down have a coffee and piece of cake type place while you read the paper or catch up with an old friend; This is a pickup the goods and go type of place, and most notably known for the artistry they can perform with cakes for weddings and special occasions, but I like how they cater to folks that just want a good cake or box of cupcakes for a party.

I was impressed with the fact that their  website offered a cake of the month and it was actually in store, so, it's important to see that they are keeping their customers properly informed through the website, which seems like a no-brainer for a business, but I have been disappointed by other places before by this type of online advertising.

Looking at the cupcakes behind the glass, they had about nine different cupcake varieties to offer, and they all looked highly delectable, so, I had no choice but to get one of each.  When I brought them home for everyone, they all were amazed by how awesome they looked (which can go a long way), and everyone only had great things to say about how they tasted. The frosting was not the sugary type that you get sick of quickly and the cake was soft and moist; everything you want in a cupcake.

Price-wise, they are definitely on par or even better than other places I have seen that sell specialty-type cupcakes like these. At around three dollars a piece, you will only find cupcakes like these at say Cherry Bomb, but they even might be more expensive and can be too out of the way to venture over there. If you think there prices are expensive, keep in mind that it is a specialty type of shop and you are paying for quality.

That being said, I can't wait for an excuse to try one of their cakes.

I was looking for a birthday cake to celebrate my 30th. I wanted a Tiffany blue box with white bow. I had searched online for various bakeries and chose Amanda Oakleaf Cakes because of her website, her experience and creativity, and most of all, the fantastic customer service. I spoke with Amanda for 20 minutes about my cake and she nailed the design!

The cake was carrot cake (my favorite) with cream cheese frosting. It was very moist and delicious. You could actually smell the cake as you walked by!

I had 16 people at my birthday dinner and every single person could not stop talking about the cake. In fact, my parents wanted me to drive to CT with the leftover pieces.

I am very pleased with how the cake turned out and will certainly do business with them again.

Amanda and her team created a stunning, creative and tasty wedding cake for our wedding at the artists for humanity epicenter. She created a visually arresting design based off our invitations that was just out of this world. Some of our guests initially thought it was not a real cake- it looked that unbelievable! It was a very collaborative design process and I appreciated that Amanda had a background in art- it definitely showed when it came to the cake. I also am continuing to get compliments on both the look and taste of the cake. I never thought I'd hear someone say "that fondant was so tasty!" but her homemade marshmallow fondant is pretty awesome and the cake and fillings were delicious. Payment and delivery was seamless- there was a whole team there making sure everything was just right and it was. I am not sure I can wait until our 1 year anniversary to eat the cake we froze....

What a fabulous bakery! I saw a gallery of Oakleaf cakes online, and I knew I had to get my husband's birthday cake from this place this year! :)

I was very pleased with the results. The exterior was really pretty and stayed true to my design request, and the inside was moist, flavorful and fabulous!

I opted for chocolate cake with coffee frosting inside, and I'm so glad I did! It was a big hit!

    Thanks Amanda and team!

The Team at Amanda Oakleaf Cakes are great! They did a cake up for me last minute and it was awesome! The decorating and cool shape was just what I was looking for on a graducation cake a few months back.  The cake itself was really good and I think as much as people want to not cut into such a cool piece of art and save it... yea you need to eat it if you are going to judge on what it tastes like.  Super good cake and more for your money than other places I've gone to for 3D cakes.

Hint: If you follow Amanda Oakleaf on twitter or Facebook, you'll get all sorts of updates as to what's happening in their kitchen.  On Friday, they posted about their new cupcake flavor: chocolate coconut.  Gasp!  So while deciding on a place to hit for dinner, this obviously had to factor into my decision.  And so, Winthrop it was!  We stopped by and picked up a couple of these delicious little beasts so we could enjoy them post-dinner.  Best. Decision. Ever.  One of the most amazing cupcakes I have ever had.  Probably top three.  It's a good thing I only bought one, because these are the types of things I probably would keep eating until I barfed.  They're that good.

My girlfriend got my 25th birthday cake from Amanda Oakleaf Cakes and all I can say is WOW! I felt so wrong eating such a work of art, but I was able to justify it after one bite of the most delicious red velvet cake I have ever tasted! It was a two tier cake, one tier as I said was Red Velvet, the other Vanilla. Each was equally as delicious! Everyone who had attended my party was so taken aback by both the presentation and taste of this cake. Amanda Oakleaf Cakes has my stamp of approval and I can assure you there is only one place where I will be purchasing my cakes from this point forward.

Amanda and her team designed a "very unique" cake for my colleagues "Farewell Dinner!". From just pictures sent via email and a phone conversation, she hit the spot on exactly what I wanted! I gave her my budget and she produced. The cake was delicious as well! She was very very professional in contacting me with questions and the delivery! Amanda has a unique and artistic gift of paying attention to the detail. I was completely satisfied and so war my guests! Amanda even hand delivered our cake to The Capital Grille and brought it to the back with the restaurant with instructions!! Kudos and will definitely come back again!!!!

Thanks Amanda for explaining what had happen then.  It should have been communicated then for ease of mind instead of thinking I won't have a wedding cake for that period of time.  It was not mention in any of the calls we made to you for the status.

As for the cake, after the sketch, there was email communication to add more colors and details which did not happen which is why I said it came close but not LIKE what we had asked for since it was missing those details.  At $1200 for it, I expected it.

This review is way overdue and I apologize for that. Amanda Oakleaf made our wedding cake last August and it was absolutely amazing inside and out. After a great meeting with Amanda to taste flavors and go over details. From the minute we sat down with Amanda we felt at ease - she was so great and accommodating. We ended up choosing Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in between the letters and Italian meringue on the outside. The design was simple compared to some of the other cakes but she still took the time to work closely with us and make it perfect - including making it sparkle for the bling obsessed bride that I was. Even the sugar flowers on the top of the cake matched perfectly.

All I will say is that people are still talking about our cake and how delicious it was. We have bought cupcakes many times since the wedding from Amanda (both cheesecake and regular cake) and have never been disappointed.

My husband and i both look forward to ordering a red velvet cake to celebrate our 1st Anniversary!

If you like CAKE and FUN creative cakes, then Amanda is for you!  My boyfriend is obsessed with the bakery Charm City Cakes of the Food Networks Ace of Cakes.  All he wanted for his 30th birthday this past March was a cake from there.  Well we live in Boston, and that bakery is in NJ so it wasn't gonna happen.  I did a lot of research to try and find a place that could possibly compare.  When I found Amanda's website I knew I had found the perfect place and was beyond excited.  She emailed me right back and I sent her the picture and description of what I was looking for.  Yes they are expensive, but to have a 3d motorcycle cake i knew it was going to be costly as most are.  See the pic I posted, its awesome!  The cake itself was INCREDIBLE tasting too, vanilla cake with chocolate frosting layered in between.  I am not supposed to eat dairy, but i dealt with the pain and ate a piece pretty much everyday for a week after the party!   My only criticism, which are so so minor, was that the other person I dealt with over the phone and email was a bit of a confusing and ongoing process.  She was SUPER nice, but one too many conversations about it.  And the motorcycle was so cool I just wished it had been a little bit bigger.
Everyone loved it and enjoyed it, I would highly recommend Amanda and wish they were closer to where I lived so I could try the vegan ones.

I ordered cake for my daughters 3rd birthday party last year and it came out beautifully.

The cake I ordered was a nick jr Ni Hao Kailan cake. I was impressed with the finished product because we only communicated through email and did not know what to expect. Amanda is truly talented and will definitely have my daughters next cake done there if we are in MA for her birthday. I use to live in FL where I only trusted one famous cake designer for all my cakes and it was really hard finding one here for my daughter and I was nothing but impressed.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's discuss creativity.

There are those "every day" sparks of creativity.  There are those "once a week" creative moments.  And, of course, you have those surprisingly cool creative moments - inspirational moments, even.

These cakes?  Let's face it, they're pretty fantastic.

They have to be - Winthrop is one of those "you only get there if you're going there" type of places.  There's not going to be a lot of "drop in" traffic for any business in this town; if Amanda's (or any other Winthrop location) is going to make it here, it has to make you actively seek it out.

These cakes are not Konditor Meister in terms of flavors - no Chocolate Grand Marnier cakes to be had here.  Still, both chocolate and gold cakes are very good on their own merit.  But in terms of style?  Pure Creativity?  They get full marks and then some.

And, you ask, what if you don't need a cake shaped like your family cat?  They make a broad selection of cupcakes: gold, chocolate, carrot, chocolate-peanut butter - call ahead to see what they have that day!

I have purchased 5 cakes here. The cakes are not only amazingly designed but the flavors are absolutely delicious and the texture tof the cakes are perfect. My first cake was for my daughters first holy communion and it was a box, like a tiffany box and it had rosary beads hanging down from the open box.. My second cake was for my wedding., i had a theme -my husband and I  were at the top , I was in a gown he was in jeans and then at the bottom was our  choc. lab Elvis running away with his tux and our three daughters chasing him!  The 3rd cake was for my sisters grand opeing of her boutique in Wakefield. It was an exact replica of a Miche purse that she sells there and it looked so real someone tried to pick  it up but the handles.. The forth cake was for ny daughters 13 birthday it was of a duplicate of her cell phone which was a huge hit.. The last cake was for my sisters birthday and it had my sister on top with shopping bags in her hands.... and around the edges their were different shopping bags at places she loves to shop at... flip through her pictures and you will see the creations that she has made...i do not call this a bakery i think she is more of a designer... but the taste is not comprimised in any way .... she flavors I have experienced... red velvet, german chocolate, vanilla with a strawberry center,  and regukar chocolate..... all were extremely delicious and not dry in the least... well worth the money..... i love seeing her on the tlc show and food network show and brag that she is my oersoanl cake designer!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I are from Maryland but we were travelling to Salem, MA for our first anniversary. I contacted Amanda to see if she could replicate the top tier of our wedding cake and have it delivered to the restaurant we were having our anniversary dinner at. She gave us a fair price and worked with us in order to allow us to pay at a convenient time. The cake was on time and looked exactly like our top tier. The fondant was a little chewy, but other than that the cake tasted great.

I would definitely recommend Amanda to others!

Exceptional cupcakes, especially the red velvet with cream cheese. Had one of their chocolate "gourmet" cakes at a friends party, it was moist and the frosting was so light and fluffy! Haven't had one of their crazy custom cakes yet but have seen their work on their site and in their store and it is truly amazing.
