Am Lounge (formerly known as rBar) opened their new doors last night. When they first announced their plans to change the concept of the bar, they mentioned that ladies would drink free and they didn't have cover charges.
They must have changed their minds along the way because there was a $5 cover last night and the web-site no longer says there are no cover charges. I had already told my friends there wouldn't be a cover (it didn't say it on the event invite either) and I'm not big on paying a cover for DJ in a small bar, especially on opening night. So, I wasn't thrilled. The vibe was dark with blue lights and base pounding tunes that sound the same after song three.
I will miss the rBar. While they were able to incorporate lounge music and other music into their entertainment line up, I always liked that it still had a slightly above average neighborhood bar feel and a wholesome clientele. I also liked the quirky entertainment ideas they would come up with. We'll have to see if they are able to pull any of them off now.
Am-Lounge is now 100% lounge club. In my opinion, this will only date the place and mark it for closure when the next new lounge comes along.
Bummer!!
(PS. Don't let the address fool you. While AM-Lounge is technically on Chouteau, it is where Manchester turns into Chouteau. So, think "corner of Manchester and Sarah."
