Review from Nick D.
Belvedere Tiburon, CA
As a volunteer I initially held back in reviewing Alto Tiburon since I did not receive services for my own pet. That was until I took my 5 year old German Shepherd in for a skin growth which was diagnosed as a mast cell tumor.
Before having my pet diagnosed I spent time with the entire staff in client relations, general treatment and surgery. The practice philosophy is truly built in the best interest of the client. Top notch veterinary medicine, personable consultations with a staff eager to provide compassionate loving care. There is open communication and shared perspective to provide the best treatment. I would recommend any veterinarian in the practice.
This inside perspective allowed me be completely at ease with my pet going into surgery. When I went to pick up my pet (same day) I noticed her excited to see staff members re-enter the room. Being a nervous pup around new people this meant that she was well taken care of.
Thank you Alto Tiburon.

PS. Post-surgery service has been excellent. -

Yes, this clinic has earned a high rating. We were new to the area and tried a different Vet at first (not knowing any better) and we knew right after the first visit they were not for us! So we switched to Alto Tiburon and could not be happier. All of the doctors and staff are great with our boys and we feel they are receiving wonderful care. This is a top-notch Veterinary Hospital and you should feel confident and safe entrusting your beloved pets here.

When I first moved here I interviewed many veterinarians in Marin, as it's a Big Deal where I take my fur kids for medical care. Dr. Ohler came highly recommended and she is everything and more than I could have hoped for. Gentle, kind and patient with my rescue boy dog, she really takes the time to fully explain any questions or conditions you may encounter. She is also so very great at personally calling right away with test results, explaining everything in an easy to understand way. I just can't say enough great stuff about her, she Rocks as a vet!
It's a lovely smaller clinic, modern, clean and very well run. I can clearly tell these gals know animals, and seem to remember every one that walks in the door by name. I'm a hard sell, and I cannot imagine going anywhere else. I'm so happy to have found this clinic. -

I seldom post on Yelp but Alto Tiburon deserves special mention. First and foremost, their competence in diagnosing and treating my dogs rivals that of the best vets that I have seen - and I've seen quite a few, having moved around a fair bit. That, combined with their flexibility, follow-up care, and dog-side manner makes them top-notch. Truly a wonderful team of staff and vets.

I live my life 15 minutes behind everyone else. I don't know what it is. I enter some kind of time warp--usually while I'm getting ready--or I leave on time and I hit traffic, or I leave on time and I don't hit traffic but I can't find parking. In any case, I am late. All the time. It's totally rude and it gets on everyone's nerves. I don't feel like it's my right or my prerogative to be late all the time. It just happens.
I say this because the staff at Alto Tiburon is always running on time. If you have a 4:30 appointment, they will see you at 4:30:22. And I'm sure it annoys them when I am late. But they always give my cat the care he deserves.
I have a kitten now--well, he's not really a kitten anymore as he's about a year old--and the care they give him is every bit as good as the care that my Dinah got there. I brought him in a few weeks ago to get his vaccines. I was 15 minutes late. Totally rude and inexcusable. They were perturbed. They actually called my house to tell me it was not ok for me to be 15 minutes late. And I can't even blame them a little bit. But the point is, they didn't let their beef with my lack of time-keeping skills compromise their desire to give George the best care possible. They saw us and gave him all the love and affection they would a cat whose owner was always punctual. I really appreciate that.
Also, they loved my Dinah, but they also really love George. Like, they LOVE George. They get excited when I call them and tell them I'm bringing him in, and I love knowing that my bebe will be in the hands of people who know and remember him between visits and who are excited just to see his furry little face. It's also nice knowing that they probably were really sad when Dinah passed on, and that their relationship with her was important to them (they sent me a really nice condolence card when she passed on).
That said, please be on time. I'm working on it, and I'm sure they really appreciate it when people show up punctually. And I would hate for this review to make people feel like they can just show up whenever. They do a great job and perform and invaluable service, so everyone (myself included) should regard that with the utmost respect for their time and their efforts.1 Previous Review: Show all »

About
Alto Tiburon Veterinary Hospital
25 N Knoll Road
Mill Valley, CA 94941
To the Entire Hospital Staff:
This is a belated thank you letter for helping a "Human" as well as the "Pups & Kitties."
I want to thank you for the wonderful warm assistance that your staff gave to me after my bicycle was run off the road by a car a couple of weeks ago. The accident location was just two stop lights away from your hospital. Luckily for me, my cell phone found your nearby facility where I had hoped to get a little emergency care... which I certainly obtained.
Your fantastic staff helped me with a place to take care of my traumatic wounds. I had first and second degree burns from the road - my entire right forearm and right leg were scraped, bleeding non-stop and filthy. You provided me with a perfect amount of hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls to clean and stabilize my condition.
I will always recommend your hospital to all pet owners... and they will certainly learn of the care, comfort and special treatment that you provided to me in my time of need! I have healed without any complications from infection - thanks to you.
It brightens my life to know that your staff cares not only about individual animals, but also considers the human factor... you saved my day!
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your kind and considerate assistance.
Gratefully Yours,
Steven LaVinger -

I think Chrisann and the staff at Alto Tiburon are great - knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
In addition, after my cat Skippy had to be put down, Chrisann was available to me in my search for a new pet. She was extremely helpful and guided me away from trouble breeds or signs and toward the fabulous dog I have now.
Without Chrisann's help, I would have chosen the wrong dog. I highly recommend her and her staff. -

Dr. Lisa Franck and the staff at Alto Tiburon are positively fantastic! I just adopted a pretty shy dog, and he was due for an annual check-up, vaccinations, and heart worm test. They were so good with my shy guy, and when he first met Dr. Franck, he walked right up to her with his tail wagging--this never happens when he meets new people, he usually comes to hide behind me. The vet tech was absolutely fabulous--the first thing she did was get down on the floor, give him treats, and ask him for kisses (which he gave willingly...all over her face). They were so wonderful with him, to the point that he didn't even move when they drew blood for his heart worm test or gave him his vaccinations!
My entire experience with this clinic has been nothing but wonderful. From my initial email just finding out information about dfferent vets in the area to the ease of making an appointment that fits in with my schedule to the amazing staff, I have nothing but great things to say about Alto Tiburon! I highly recommend this clinic and will not be taking my dog anywhere else! -

This is a complete care facility with a caring and knowledgeable health care team. It is located just off Hwy 101 and Tiburon Boulevard. They have full care for the health of your pet along with a small boarding facility. You can be confident and relaxed about leaving your loved family pet here while you go out of town. I have boarded my kitty here many times and she has always seemed happy and content when I return. Of course, it is an entirely different story when I take her for shots or to get her nails trimmed!

Fantastic. My extended family has been bringing our pets to Dr. Ohler for at least 20 years (first in Corte Madera, and now at her present office). My fiance & I just adopted 2 adorable tabby youngsters, who started sneezing a couple days after we brought them home. Even though we're city dwellers, I made the trek to this office because I trust Dr. Ohler so much. We ended up seeing Dr. Powers, who was delightful as well, and very gentle with the kitts, and explained everything thoroughly to their mama (er, me). As well, Mr. Mittens had an embarrassing poopie-accident in the car on the way over, and one of the vet techs (I didn't catch her name) very graciously cleaned out the kitty carrier--and even went as far as to wipe down Mittens' hind end. Now here are people who love animals! We'll never take our babies anywhere else.

they truly love animals here. we've taken our little darlings here since we've moved to the area 2 years ago, and haven't looked elsewhere. chrisann ohler is a sweetheart -- she returns ALL of my calls! staff is super sweet. my little one used to shake uncontrollably when going to the vet's -- now she struggles to get in so that she can get her treat! all that conscientious attention does make them somewhat sloooow... budget at least an hour for appts.

Outstanding, compassionate care for pets and the people who love them. I trust Drs. Ohler, Powers, and Franck with my dogs' lives and have confidence that they will help me make the right decisions. They are thoughtful and conscientious. They go the extra mile. If they don't know the answer, they are not afraid to tell you so...no egos here! The staff are wonderful and caring--the concern they showed when 3 of my dogs became critically ill while we were out of town meant more than they can ever know.
